It was politics, but of the polite variety
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
It was a very good day for the Democrats.
It started with a classy act by Hillary Clinton, who moved to nominate Barack Obama by acclamation, preventing a potentially divisive rollcall vote. Her husband then delivered a ringing endorsement of Obama, reminding the nation why he is considered the best politician of his generation.
Bill Clinton’s speech was followed by a passionate and biting critique of the Bush administration by, of all people, John Kerry, who is hardly known for his passion. And rounding out the day was Joe Biden, who delivered what the delegates and other Democratic partisans had been hoping for — an insightful and incisive attack on John McCain’s politics.
The Democrats, to a person, proved that they could harshly attack policies and politics, judgments and beliefs, without attacking the person. Good for them. Bill Clinton and each member of the Senate — Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, John Kerry — was careful to mention his friendship with or respect for John McCain and his service to the nation.
Then they proceeded to say why they disagreed with his policies, why his policies are bad for the country. It should not be necessary to dehumanize your opponent, to suggest he is somehow worthy of contempt.
If that idea of respecting your rival’s humanity is what Barack Obama has brought to American politics, it marks a huge improvement.

Really who cares what Joe Bitem says. Who cares what Slick Willie says or more who he is doing. It certainly is not Hitlary. All of zoned out moonbats are in one place and they are having their own love fest to support Bactrack Oblame.
He is now trying to complain about a Bill Ayers ad and wanting people prosecuted for free speech. Today they had an ABC investigative reporter arrested on a public street for trying excercise Freedom of the Press.
This is just a glimpse of what the Marxist has in store for us. Socialized medicine where the government determines whether it is too expensive to treat you and just delays care until you die. All the while taking money from you at the point of a gun through ever higher taxes in their effort to take from the productive and give to the unproductive.
Earned Income Credit - a sham program that gives tax refunds to those who owe no taxes. What a load of crap.
Are you going to look for real positive legislation from Congress? What is the opposite of progress? Congress. Lowest approval rating in history. Single digits for Queen Nancy and Harry the Joker. The Queen was confronted with her Save the Planet idea and told the people to drill in their own head. Well there is nothing in the Queen’s head except air and stale pot smoke.
We have many challenges in our country for a United America not one divided by race warlords, class warfare, and income redistribution from the producers to the idle. We must increase the energy supply to buy time so that we can invent new technology to use alternative fuels. We must stabilize the economy and spur growth not by new excessive profit oil taxes.
We also face a world where the Islamofacists want to destroy our society and drag us back to their twisted view of heaven on earth.
Backtrack is not experienced enough to lead and too radical to be trusted. McCain is simply a better choice and although not my first choice. He is an easy choice over this unaccomplished, inexperienced lightweight. It is not about Race. I would vote Colin Powell or Hermain Cain, but never for Sinney McKinney, Maxine Waters, Jessie Jackson (jr or sr) or Backtrack Oblamemi.
Tuckerheadinthesand is great to read for amusement. She is so wrong so often. .

Bill was Bill, convincinly fake. Only drunken bands of merry liberals still believe what this man says.
Biden, very weak, basically reviewing democratic talking points. He spent most of his time questioning John’s judgement? The man he said he would be proud to server as VP to!? Biden either didn’t believe what he was saying or he is one heck of a back stabbing friend. Didn’t seem like a very good first impression.
So now the pressure mounts on Obama to deliver BIG. He has to reverse the negative momentum showing in the polls. But is a stadium full of hollywood celebrities, weeping before their progressive messiah, really going to help Obama connect with middle America voters who still cling to their guns and religion??
It was indeed a good day for America.., but Democrats needed a great day.

It is so sad that the best response to seeing democracy in action is the spewing of babble that comes from those who are stuck on stupid. You write a few cute names and throw in a few marxists/socialists barbs and then try to come off as real thinkers by stating you would vote for Powell or Cain or wouldn’t object to having Oprah live in your neighborhood. Wake up and smell the coffee. America has moved on and dinorsaurs like you are destined for the museums.

JW - I concur with your sentiments, expressed with a tinge of witty satire.
I did not see any of the speeches to which Cynthia refers, but am definitely conditioned for a “purging” of the band of elephants down at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Some would have us believe it is a recipe for disaster, but that is most certainly an erroneous assertion.
A change of direction is very much in order.

For example, Obama, Colin Powell, Lester Holt of NBC news, etc. Yet they are not called “black-white” but rather black. Oh I am not sure but I think you might could put Cynthia in the same category.

Speaking at a forum of former world leaders less than a mile from the site of the Democratic National Convention, Bill Clinton drew an analogy that had many wondering whether he had made peace with the idea of an Obama candidacy.
**Suppose, for example, you’re a voter, and you have candidate X and you have candidate Y. Candidate X agrees with you on everything but you don’t think that person can deliver on anything. Candidate Y disagrees with you on half the issues, but you believe that, on the other half, the candidate will be able to deliver.
This is the kind of question that I predict - and this has nothing to do with what’s going on now - but I am just saying if you look at five, 10, 15 years from now, you may actually see this delivery issue become a serious issue in Democratic debates because it is so hard to figure out how to turn good intentions into real changes in the lives of the people we represent.**
I think someone is voting McCain….

ok, you are sipping the ‘ade. “a classy act by Hillary Clinton”, “a ringing endorsement of Obama”…well, duh, do you think the party would have orchestrated anything else? Of course they did what they did.
“preventing a potentially divisive rollcall vote”…no, it wasn’t even potential. No way would the party have allowed anything other that what you saw last night. If the ‘Hill wants to run again, and she would need the party’s support to do it, then she and slick willie better toe the line, and they did. No suprises.
One other thing to add…willie said that in ‘92 that people said he was too young and inexperienced to be prez…just like Barry O. A little difference here…he had been in charge of a state (gov.) for 12 years prior…a bit of executive experience there….Barry has 3 years in the senate…quite the rookie.

I had thought this country finally had overcome these kinds of diatribes. Perhaps this is an indication as to why Georgia has slipped to 47th in SAT scores. This does not bode well.

The Democrats did not refrain from attacking McCain personally because they are such nice people. McCain is a genuine war hero. They knew that if they were to attack him personally it would backfire and cost them a lot of votes. Do you think for one minute they would have shown the same respect for George W. Bush? It is not any “niceness” that Obama has brought to the table, it was just Democrat politics as usual…say anything to win.

Tax and spend liberal ideas of change??? Does anyone really see what is going on or are we stuck in some kind of time warp from the Reagan era? A billion dollars a day in Iraq (while they sit on a surplus), a deficit that if you or I carried they would through us out of our home and we would have to go backrupt, and a fire sale going on with our corporations and iconic buildings (the Saudi’s own 90% of the Crysler building). When will people wake up and see that this country is in trouble? If you want to loose weight you eat less and exercise more. If you want to get out of the deficit, you have to pay more taxes (by the rich) and bring up the lower and middle classes and get them spending again. Wake up people and smell the coffee!

The only thing Obama has brought to American politics is not only a continuation of the democrat liberal socialist agenda, but, a drastic increase in class warfare, a desire to drastically increase the government’s control of all our lives, and, a marxist agenda comparable to Hitler, Stalin, Castro, Chavez and others! WE DO NOT NEED MORE SOCIALIST CRAP IN THE FREE CAPITALIST USA, EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It did not work in Russia! I have read these evil post and it saddens me that people are still this racist in 2008. It amazes me how a certain group of people “yell” and “scream” for a black athlete all weekend long when there perspective team takes the field or court; however, GOD forbid that same student decides to run for Mayor, Governor or PRESIDENT one day. We can’t grow like this our foolish pride will eventually destroy America.
The last 8 years under the Bush Administration has been a struggle for most Americans. We need someone to at least make a step towards a resolution. The Obama’s are IVY league educated and appear to be decent people; however, he is a politician as well as Senator McCain. I challenge all the haters to run for an elected office and see what dirt they would find under your rug.
We can debate our views, but let’s take race out of the equation and move forward to embrace change and grow as individuals. It’s not fair to next generation One Country, One Team..

To zeke: Hitler was not Marxist (ultra-liberal), he was fascist (ultra-conservative). To JD Roberts: if you fear business moving off-shore as a result of Obama, just wait until McCain paves the way for more businesses to move! No one has been more supportive of off-shore business moves than McCain. Not to mention his undying support of NAFTA, CAFTA, and other policies that have failed this country miserably, economically.
Historically, America has thrived under democratic leadership (“real growth”). The only republican who had results that appeared similarly strong was Reagan (I say “similarly,” because he did so by borrowing money, and thus the growth was artificial).
Whatever you do, republicans, do NOT educate yourselves on the facts. Keep on trying to shape the truth to fit your belief system, and NEVER change your belief system in order to fit with the truth!

The rest of teh world hates us because we have a very cocky attitude our attitude that we are better. I traveled Europe and Parts of Asia for 4 summers playing basketball. Many of the complaints voiced about us had nothing to do with racism, trust me most of the rest of teh world is more racist than most of us any day of the week. It is our attitude that things should be handed to us. They see it from an objective view. I cannot tell you how many times people would talk about how many people we have that wait on their gov’t to take care of them here. I have just proven a point that many of my African brothers force me to notice in my travels. American black are the most foolish people on earth.
Do you really know what the Africans are saying about black men? With this great opportunity this country has to offer, we still blame problems of 40-200 years ago for our high drug abuse/alcohol rates, unemployment and lack of education.
HaHa, Zo, Orlando, good luck in you life and with you loser mentality. You are the reason I can not find quality black men to hire. This mental illness you have will be the demise of the black race period.
You put your hope on Almighty God not the flesh. Obama is a politician period nothing more than a fancy liar with a liberal agenda that will force more business to find alternate methods of reducing their tax burden.

You all may not agree with JD but he is telling you real talk. Also all of teh people who love Obama must understand 2 things. 1. People are free to make their own opinions, and you make yourself sound uneducated when you attack the person instead of their ideas or beliefs. 2. Not every person that does not agree with Obama or think he is the best candidate thinks that Bush has done a good oreven descent job, and just because they do not think Obama is the best Candidate does not make them a racist. Did you all stop to think maybe they just do not agree with his policies, or maybe his lack of experience does scare them. It would be hard to find a principle of an elementry school with less than 15 years of experience and promotions to get a job in schools. So why a president?

Did Bill deliver what was expected of him last night? You bet he did. The man is a pro at this. He politcially postured his wife last night to make sure she stays at the front of the line for the democrtaic party. The Clintons know Obama is going to lose this election. They have now positioned themselves to live in the prime real estate of the democratic landscape. They were both good foot soldiers; both delivered what was needed and expected of them. Obama will lose in 08 and will be regulated to the same place 1st Runner Ups always go. Ted Kennedy will soon be dead and not a threat to the Clinton dynasty. She is waiting with baited breath for 2012. Will it be a long wait in vain? Probably so, but who really knows. Their motives this week have been predicated on making sure they remain the alpha couple for the democratic party. Obama is no match forthe Clintons. Intellectually and politically he is no match for them. Obama didn’t win, Hillary lost. The news agencies were nothing short of disgraceful and unethical in the way this election was reported. I can only assume they know Obama needed, no… that he required a lot of help. We have witnessed affirmatice action at it’s greatest by nominating this impotent man. You all who are blasting Tucker for her over the top salavating support for the The Benign One, she is indicitive of all of Obamas supporters, totallly clueless. McCain 2008.

Racist remarks are uncalled for in this forum. I am an Independent and I enjoyed Bill’s speech last night, but I have a couple of serious problem with the content of it.
First, President Clinton was very fortunate to be in office during the Internet explosion of the 1990’s. The economic upturn had little to do with his policies or leadership. As a matter of fact, once the tech bubble began to burst the economy went into a mini recession that Bill had little effect on also.
Second, to claim that the U.S. went to He** in a handbasket once Bush took over is totally glossing over the defining day of the last 60+ years. 9/11 change the ballgame. We were hit on our own soil for the first time in our history. That day created a domino effect that will last for years to come. Since then we have spent billions of dollars on homeland security and wars. It’s no wonder the economy has struggled to maintain any kind of growth. However, we have/had to spend much of that money because another 9/11 is not acceptable. Fighting terrorist abroad is much more acceptable than fighting them here.
I am not defending some of George Bush’s decisions, but I am saying, we can’t blame him for all of our problems. Stop the name calling and use your heads.
I would like to ask you this: If we are attacked by Muslim extremist one year from now and Obama is president, are we to blame him for what follows?

I think it is funny how some of the richest people in America, the Clinton’s, Pelosi’s and Obama’s all cry about the great 2 America’s, one rich and one poor. Gee what side of the fence are they on? What amazes me is the blue collar and low income people believe that these idiots are going to help them. If you are a taxpayer, voting for Obama is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.

Black people have a mental illness? LMAO!!! you went to a black college and you speak on your own people that way man your officially a sellout! Trust me no self respecting black man would work for you! We are the most foolish people on earth? WOW you gotta lot of self hate pent up inside you. You claim to be black? You read a couple of books make some money and all of a sudden you white LOL!!! Rosco Jenkins come home LOL!! I haven’t seen anybody blame anything on slavery on this post so where is that coming from? In no way are you black at all who do you think your fooling? No historically black college would teach self hatred as you possess they teach compassion understanding patience and wisdom something you know nothing of. Your the opposite of what this country needs your a lost borhter who thinks money is cure all of all your ills Your the one who’s sick…sick of being black you wish you were white but guess what you not and never will be(or are you) instead of judging from your kings throne why dont you spend your time trying to help someone BROTHA up lift someone BROTHA realize that all the material possession you own and the education you claim to have received is only possible because the foolish people you hate had to endure unimaginable struggle for you to even get to the point to where your at. Or didn’t you learn that in college? I know your type your one of them brothers who think marrying a white woman is a badge of honer and a trophy to show you made it not out of love but out of hatred of your own and to distance yourself from what you are and where you came from! Cynthia, the only thing liberals failed to do during their convention speeches was spray Lysol on their candidate.
As with most of the faint praise that Clinton, Biden and Kerry muttered about McCain, it’s all simple contrivance. Comments meant to honor McCain’s distinguished military and political service to this country, while very much factual, are simply a Democrat ruse to deflect the continuing s**-storm about Obama’s decidedly un-American associations with Wright, Ayers, Pfleger, Rezko, et.al. The only two leftists with more political stink and a worse political resume would be Tom Hayden and Jane Fonda.
After a lifetime of ultra-leftist associations and ultra-racist indoctrination, Obama is being rightly “outed” during the general election campaign. And no amount of subterfuge by Clinton, Kerry or Biden can cover the stench of Obama’s leftist past. I am, however, certain that the American people will consider McCain’s lifetime of service versus Obama’s litany of bad judgements and make the right choice.
Meantime, bring out the Lysol.

So there is a black card where do I get my white card or does that make me sound like a fool? I love reading these post some of you are so hypocritical. You say and praise Obama or McCain for something then you lash out at someone for that same thing. You cannot attack someone about their quest for money when earlier you equated many argument with money problems, gasprices, economy, price of food. Either it is ok to be about money or it is not.

Bush has been blamed for everything gone wrong. If, and this is a big if, who will people…especially blacks blame if Obama is elected and gas prices do not go down and inflation coninues to rise and the economy remains weak. You can bet the farm they’ll pin it on Biden or any white guy they can lay blame to, it sure as hell won’t be Obama. Case in point is the new storm headed toward New Orleans. Will the people leave as told? No, they’ll head back up to roof at the last minute then blame Bush. They’ll loot and kill and then blame Bush. They’ll get two thousand dollar debit cards and spike the crime rates up in any and all cities they are bused to. And yes, they’ll still blame Bush.

I am a black female from Chicago and JD is not alone in his stance. There are two songs they can play for Obama tonight when he comes on stage: 1st one dedicated to the the State of Illinois by Janet Jackson “What Have You Done for Me Lately” and James Brown “Talking Loud and Saying Nothing”. He was voted by the people of Illinos to the US Senate to serve and could of use this position as a platform to establish himself. He has done nothing but got the big head because of a speech he gave 4 years ago and spent more time running for President when he has not really worked on behalf of the residents of Illinois. This country is in a recession and he wants to have this big production tonight at a stadium and what was his reason for going to Germany? He has gotten full of himself and all of the signs are there. I can only imagine what he will do if he get elected. He will just be a black democrat version of George Bush, cocky and arrogant.

It is obvious from all of the hate comments displayed here that ideas don’t mean a thing. It is all about who is black and who is white and how many sad things you can say about someone who expressed an honest opinion, like JD. Just remember when the American electorate goes into the voting booth, all of this “political correctness” crap will be outside the curtain and the voter will be in a very private place. We will then see how ready the voting public is for a black president. It’s all about race, plain and simple and the majority of Americans do not believe, with our present state of race relations in this country, that a black president will succeed. We are at last two generations away from this scenario, sad but true.

No see that is were you are wrong I have been stopped and I have had my car serch 6 times last year. Everytime it was by a black cop and on 2 of those occasions the cop even said why are you in a “black” area of town. I promise you are not the only one who has been unlawfully searched. So should I be outragged about that, b/c I am not. I am also 1/4 American Indian, grandmother is full-blodded Cherokee, from those that stayed behind after the trail of tears. So as bad as African Americans may have had it the Native Americans got it a whole lot worse. Another thing every single race or ethnic group has been discriminated against, enslaved and other wise treated horribly inhumane at some point in the history of time. Does that mean that everyone can say that they did this or that to our ancestors, so I have a right to be bitter, distrustful or carrying a grudge. No, these events have happened and they were horrible but the discrimination of a group is a not a worthy reason for that group to feel that everyone is against them. I am also Polish, and German heritage check those histories and see if there has evr been any mistreatment. Know that you are in control of your own actions and nothing that anyone in this country does can affect you from achieving your goals if you are truely commited to achieving them.

I guess in American we are no longer allowed to have an opinion without being labeled an Uncle Tom (in the case of JD) or a racist (in the case of any white person speaking out against Barrack).
The democrats rushed to select Obama. They wanted the first AA president. The man is not qualifed for the job plain and simple.Nothing to do with race.
If the primary had taken place in the two states BO would have been giving his speech the night Hillary spoke.

Yes I do believe we are folish and said the exactly the same earlier this week. If anyone wants to succeed by planting untruths and lies, blacks are the first to be misled and fooled because many of us will fall for anthing because we will not research to find out the real truths. We jump up and belive the 1st thing someone tells us and will run with it. am black and proud but I will use my God given sense to make my decisions on facts and not emotions just to make history by electing Obama. I am from Chicago and mosts blacks that I talk to who are walking around wearing Obama T-shirts can’t tell me 1 thing they know about his accomplishments. There was a saying long time ago that if you did not want a black person to succeed, put it in a book. So many of us are walking around saying “OBAMA OBAMA” and can’t tell nothing they know about the man they want to run this country. SAD SAD SAD!

The Republican party was founded to abolish slavery. The Democratic party supported slavery and segregation and Jim Crow; fact. A Republican sent Federal troops to Little Rock, the Democratic Governor did nothing.
I am black, and black people always say they want to be treated equal but when someone opposes the establishment the Black media and politicians have established for the so called race people who’s mind have been liberated get labeled Sell out or Uncle Tom.
The majority of black are puppets of the Democrats and the black establishment. Nothing had essentially improved for us in 40 years when the majority of blacks decided to support 1 party.
Even a fool knows how to play the game and not put all their eggs in one basket, but not Negros.
If I was running for office and I was a Republican, I would essentially write off the 12% black vote because 90% vote democratic regardless. Negros in Washington voted for a guy that snored cocaine on camera and believed the white man did it to him.
Many blacks outside of the US laugh at us, because of the wasted opportunity, blaming others for our failures.
Note this day; I have read the book and investigated the footnotes…The book is called The case against Barack Obama. You can get a copy from the library. Obama will have records release soon about his relationship with William Ayers, a known terrorist associated with the Weather Underground.
Note this also, if Obama had to get a security clearence for a high level position with the government, he more than likely would not pass because the FBI investigation takes about 1 year and they investigate your associates.
HaHa, Zo, Orlando, and Ray, the motto of the NAACP is a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Mental illness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result when supporting exclusively the Democratic party had failed the black family, and community.
A jackass can earn a degree, a wiseman knows how to use that degree to benefit not only himself but his fellow man.
Obama will be a total failure, Hillary is already preparing for 2012.

So is it truely to be said that the only reason that Obama can loose this election is because of race. I then have two questions 1st. If Obama loose can’t it also be said that people from the continental 48 would not vote for an islander? 2nd. If McCain looses can people say it is because people did not vote for him because he is white?
Sure there will be people to vote for the way the candidate looks. This is not new. People usually vote for a person because of beliefs. However there will be some white people who just cannot vote for Obama because he is not a “pure caucasion”. While ther will also be people who vote for Obama because he is partilly of african American. However I have more faith in Americans than to believe the race will be decided by race. I know one thing the more you tell people that race is the only reason they are not voting Obama the less likely to vote for him. Tell of things he has done in the past not what he will do but what has he done and who did he help. The reason I do not think I will vote for Obama is he does not plan on helping me any. I am upper-middle class with insurance, I have a college fund set up for my son, and I have never recieved any type of government aide, I read my mortgage contract very well and know my payments and have never even been late on one, I did not even take out student loans I busted my hump to recieve a full athletic scholorship. So all of his great promisses are for people other than me. I do not say this in a cocky manner but those people are the only ones Obama seems to care about.

Amy,
Logical adult argument. Obama’s life is probably in danger more than any other candidate from either party. Jay had mug shots of those two whackos in Denver who were supposedly intent on doing him in. This nation is full of those cretins. Alma Powell would not let Colin Powell run because she feared for his safety. If something happens to the Wonder Boy, God forbid, and it can be proven that a white guy was the shooter, the riots for MLK and Rodney King will look like a Sunday picnic compared to this fallout. It would set back a very fragile race relations tightrope that we have in this country by decades and the cost in lives, property and just plain dignity would be incalculable. This is not a right wing diatribe, just a plain and simple fact.

Some questions about Obama:
1) he wants to socialize medical care. Does anyone really want a government that has screwed up every major program they have ever had a hand in such as social security, medicare, income tax, etc., to now run a national healthcare program? The government has not done anything right when it comes to national programs since the government has existed. I do NOT want them now screwing up my healthcare, do you?
2) has Obama completely renounced his white ancestry? All I hear is how he is the first african-american nominee in a major party and how he will be the first black president. However, his mother was white, so doesn’t that make him just as much white as he is black? Just wondering here. Though i am sure a lot will call me racist for even wondering why he never refers to his white heritage, I think it is a fair question. If he referred to himself as white, I am sure many would be wondering what is up with that as well?
3) he wants to “talk with and appease” the radical Muslim leaders. Does he not understand that their religious doctrine is that all who do not believe the way they do must die? You can’t really talk to people like that, in my opinion, because the only acceptable terms for them is convert or die. Before anyone jumps on me about this please note I am referring to the RADICAL EXTREMIST Muslims, not the millions of Muslims who seem to go with live and let live.

Cause evidently you don’t or you don’t carry your Ora of entitlement well! and please stop with the stupid quarter measurements in your race that’s just plain old ignorance first you say your white and want a white card then you say your Indian then your getting harassed for being white in a black neighborhood? you need to get ya story straight! And if you”Indian you defiantly should feel what I’m saying not the other way around! And for BJ and JD who are the same person please stop acting black and embrace your whiteness. You have been divorced for the community and we no longer want you there! And If you think McCain is the best choice so be it but to label all black people the most foolish people on earth and to say were sheep is as offensive as it gets but whats more offensive is you have no criticism for the white race at all! there perfect and were the bad guys victims uneducated etc…We are whats wrong with this country right? For Dan, some answers about Obama.
1) he wants to socialize medical care.
No, he wants a national health-insurance program. Read up on it; learn the difference.
And if you’re so worried about the government “doing everything wrong,” why do you still cheer for our government-run military?
2) has Obama completely renounced his white ancestry?
No, has never renounced any part of his ancestry. His skin color, however, is black, and he is treated as such by society.
3) he wants to “talk with and appease” the radical Muslim leaders.
Also wrong; “talk with” and “appease” are not even close to the same thing. Do you really want a president so violent and close-minded that he REFUSES to even talk with foreign leaders before spending another trillion on another doomed, pointless war?

In 1992, Bill Clinton was singing and holding hands on the stage with Maya Angelou and others, offering a promise of a better life in America. Three years later, he was signing a welfare reform bill that threatened millions of children with poverty. Moreover, the gap between rich and poor increased during the Clinton administr
