Hillary’s speech should please Obama

Hillary Clinton rocked the house, giving one of the best speeches of her career. Wow! Obama could hardly have asked for more.

She paid tribute to her supporters and her campaign, but she still managed to exude genuine enthusiasm for Barack Obama. On the anniversary of women’s suffrage, she paid tribute to that struggle.

She also got off a few nice attack lines against the Bush-McCain team, giving Democrats the red meat the convention hall had craved. She is, after all, very shrewd, and she knows that she still has a great future in the Democratic Party if she is not seen as the spoiler.

Besides, she really has never been the Clinton that Obama has to worry about. The other part of the Clinton team still bears watching.

Thanks to Senator Clinton. President Clinton needs to follow suit and also be a great Democratic supporter for the Party. Will he? If he doesn’t, it will hurt his legacy more than it will hurt President-Elect Obama.

Hillary gave a very strong, very powerful speech. Obama is on his own now — his win or his loss is HIS ballgame. Hey, let’s all stop blaming Hillary for every little thing! She is not his mama, and he doesn’t need her to carry him through this.

What speech did you watch. Remember, Bush is not running in this election. But, keep running against him…… it is a losing strategy. Seriously, can we stick to issues and focus on the differences between the parties rather then this petty free for all….

What speech were you watching Cynthia? This was more of an acceptance speech than an endorsement speech, not unlike the one she will be giving in 2012 when she accepts your party’s nomination to challenge John McCain. When she did mention the messiah it was more along the lines of ” I support this and oh yeah so does this guy to”. I can’t wait to see what Bill says.

Let’s just be clear. The reason that Hillary must continue to redeem herself is because she is the primary reason that our nominee is having a difficult time with all Republicans and even some Democrats. We don’t see that changing after one speech.

Hillary didn’t even address her own charge on Obama’s unpreparedness!? Where were the sharp critizisms of McCain?? The speech was mostly about Hillary.., and oh yeah, “vote for Obama because he believes in me too”.

Did you catch her list on why she was there lastnight? Obama was last.

Unless you were being sarcastic, Cynthia, Obama could have asked for more, but it would not be coming from the mouth of Hillary Clinton. I must have been watching a different speech, because the only thing I saw exuded was her thinly veiled attempt to whole-heartedly embrace Obama as the party’s nominee for President. She sounded more like she was giving her own acceptance speech. There is something so well hidden in this woman’s shrewd demeanor, and it makes me so glad that I changed my mind about her. Obama doesn’t really have to worry about her husband, I believe, because if he doesn’t keep his stupidity under wraps, he will in essence, be committing political suicide for his wife, if she hopes to have any chance of running for president in the future. If it doesn’t happen for Obama this time, it won’t happen for her, anytime either.

Obama can win this election if he comes down from Mt. Olympus and learns how to communicate conversationally and not just with scripted oratory with people of varied backgrounds. Obama must connect not only intellectually, but emotionally with voters.

Clinton has more than done her part to engage her supporters and direct them to vote for Obama, now we have to wait and see if Obama is willing to come down from his mountain top and shoulder his responsibility to make a repeated and genuine effort to relate to Clinton’s core supporters and gain their trust and help them believe that he is the best candidate for their futures.

Barack Obama plays the “thugish” politics of Chicago wards. He cheated Hillary Clinton out delegates in Florida and Michigan with their fuzzy mathematics and imaginery voters like the Daley machine turns out dead people. Also, Barack plays the race card against his oponents and class welfare against those who earn the same amount he makes.

I don’t understand why every speech has to be delivered in slow, loud, broad and simple sentences and oft-repeated cliches. After all, these are democrats, not republicans they are speaking to. I like to think that the country is smarter, more educated, and ready for th future than the speech-deliverers seem to give us credit for. On the other hand, recent polls show McCain somehow even (or close) to Obama, and that makes even less sense.

C’mon, America, live up to our ideals! We’ve got a ot of important work to do, and these baby steps are demeaning.

Her speech was very Presidential. When the week is over and all of the speeches have been analyzed, you will all come back to her speech as the best. I would bet money on that!

not once did the president wanna-be say anything about “Barry’s” character or abilty to do the job.Thats cause she and everyone else with a brain knows he cant. He chose Biden cause he has no clue about how to deal with foreign policy. That entire speech was about her. But since she knows that if she says anything bad now it will come back to haunt her in 4 years. And the phrase “do we want 4 more years of this?” is soo old and was probably used when Billy was running for re-election or his pal Al. When she was talking about “universal” health care or making college affordable she forgot to say who is gonna pay for it. Just like Barack does….here is a news flash y’all…WE are gonna be paying for it!!!

Liberals want control of your health care and energy dollars and for some reason feel good liberals think they will do a simply splendid job of it. Nice comment Dnet, but I could’nt disagree with you more. This election is all about Bush. The vast majority of the American people feel that the country has wandered off course. This begs the question of who’s best qualified to lead us in a new direction. The choices are Obama, or a cranky old man that voted with Bush 95% of the time. McCain could win this race on his own, but sadly for him, he’s got to carry W on his back.

Cynthia, you are an educated woman and we know you could see what Hillary was trying to achieve last night. I too am educated and I could see that she was giving her acceptance speech but having to add “and Obama feels like i do on these issues”. It was a joke. I have to guess that the reason you feel obligated to write about what a wonderful speech she gave is due to the fact that the majority of AJC subscribers cannot form personal opinions and need the likes of the liberal media to guide them. Unfortunetely for the democraps, Nov. 4 will be about the same date that most of them will be going to the post office to get their welfare/disability checks and probably wont have time to vote.

I think the speech last night was interesting. I think that Hilary made several proclamations about her history and why she ran for the office of President of the United States and at the end she did mention Barack. Although I think the speech was okay I think that there was more that could have been said and that could be done to ensure that her supporters back Sen. Obama. I think her question to her supporters of “Were you behind the cause or were you behind me” was very pointed and succint. I am disappointed that news stations such as CNN proceeded to showcase and highlight a rambling Hillary supporter who out and out said that she was unsure if she would even vote in November because she had yet to “connect” with Sen. Obama. The media is fueling this division within the party. At the end of the day the truth is that as Democrats we have to stand behind what democracy means. Democracy means that if your candidate does not meet the mark and another candidate does then you have to support that particular candidate if it’s within the party. Do we really think that not connecting with a candidate gives us the right to stay home in November?

While I would have liked Senator Clinton to have spoken to Obama’s ability, I thought she did an excellent job with what and how she said what she said. That was the best speech I had seen her deliver, not because of Obama, but because of delivery and content. She eloquently and intelligently addressed her supporters on why their votes meant and would mean so much.

You must remember that all politicians have egos. Eating crow is difficult for them even to consider. Even McCain has resisted saying he was wrong or overstated. His attack machine was already in gear before the speech, which continues in many of the blogs above. You could at least give credit when it is deserved.

I want to see your reaction when McClone takes Romney or Lieberman as his VP. Also as a point, all the other candidates had “millions of votes”; who will he snub? See, most of this criticism can be worn on either foot; what matters most is what the candidate will try to do. Biden knows the rules and politics; he was selected to “git her done!” Why will the repub VP be selected? To make McClone look younger? To make them closer to the American people? Please!?!

I did like the “No Way, No How, No McCain” line. You may want to get used to it!

Of course Ms. Tucker liked the speech because Hillary had the grace and class to do what’s best for the party and not her personal agenda, you can’t do the same…can you Ms. Tucker? You’re ostensibly the head editorialist for the AJC, which most would assume should come with least a modicom of subjectivity yet you’re out stumping for Obama in a such way that’s saying your baised, slanted, racist opinions are jokes and cannot be taken serious as a journalist. Does he make your legs tingle like Chris Matthews said Obama makes him feel? Michelle Obama looked pensive and scared when Hillary was speaking and only seemed to relax when Hillary was praising Obama. Other than that, she looked downright upset and scared that Hillary received the ovation she received. You can bet the farm Joe Biden won’t get anywhere near what Hillary faced last night, no way…no where. Hillary knows Obama is tanking, having failed to get a bump in the polls by naming Biden and then losing two points to McCain once the DNC started…she knows this spells disaster for Obama and she’ll be waiting in the wings for 2012. Hillary has been around politics long enough to spot a loser a mile away. She knows Obama will not win this election. Ms Tucker can’t save him; the DNC and Joe Biden can’t save this election, it’s in the can.

DANGEROUS DEMAGOGUERETTE

A demagogue is defined as “someone who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions and prejudices of the people”. I already have a multitude of reasons why I would never vote for Hillary Clinton including her stance on the rights of unborn children, her disdain for the U.S. military and her socialist touch on every program or policy she proposes. However, if for no other reason, her unbridled demogoguery at the end of the 2000 Presidential election showed me just how far she would go in a disingenuous and even dangerous effort to gain popular support.

President Bush lost the popular vote but won the electoral vote and thus the election; the U.S. Supreme Court solidifying his victory with a narrow 5 to 4 ruling. Then Mrs. Clinton, a Yale Law School graduate who knew better, angrily insinuated to the American masses that Vice President Gore had been robbed of the election since he won the popular vote. She even stated that one of her first acts as a U.S. Senator would be to propose legislation eliminating the electoral college (she thankfully failed in that attempt). I guess she felt she possessed more wisdom than James Madison and our other founding fathers.

Unfortunately, the great majority of American voters are totally ignorant of the purpose of the electoral college and the incredible history of how this country was founded. Hillary used this sad ignorance to appeal to the public’s fears and to incite them during a time of Constitutional crisis when Florida’s electoral votes were still in doubt and the rule of law and calm needed to be promoted. She knew full well the electoral college was instituted to protect the influence of the smaller states, that those states would never have signed the Constitution without it and that it prevents one region of the country from dominating others in being able to choose a President. It forces a Presidential candidate to appeal to the nation as a whole as opposed to just densely populated areas. In effect, it attempts to bring us together as a nation rather than dividing us as a direct popular vote would.

This is the United STATES of America not the United PEOPLE of America; it is thankfully a constitutional republic and not a pure reactionary democracy and there’s a big difference. Our present “electoral system” allowing the States to have a proper and constitutional role in electing a President mitigates demagoguery. Hillary’s desire for a “popular vote” system would allow demagoguery to thrive. She showed me her true colors back then in her blatant effort to do anything in a quest for power and that reveals the naked soul of a dangerous demagoguerette.

In case some people have forgotten, and it looks like they have, the Supreme Court did not solidify his victory, they defeated a motion for a recount in Florida to count all of the votes for use in the electoral system. Let’s keep the facts straight. If there was a recount, which the NY Times did, Gore would have won Florida, there would be no war in Iraq, there would be one trillion dollars available that would not have been spent there and about 5,000 soldiers would still be alive.

Hopefully, we can arrive again—with Obama as President and Hillary in the Cabinet—with some sort of civil discourse. For the last eight years, we’ve gotten Republican whose recipe for rhetoric has been God, country and 911 while their actions have reinforced greed, injustice, bigotry and hatred. Oh yes, and in the process furthered Global Warning while insisting that it doesn’t exist and planting “experts” within NASA to lie about what’s happening to the planet. The Republicans have taken lying to such an exalted level that no one believes anything from Washington. After all, we’ve been manipulated by color-coded warnings while this administration has done little—and only when forced to by this Congress that passed the 911 recommendations—to make us safer. In fact, the one question I want answered is who have the Republicans been working for? They’ve weakeneed the military, the environment, almost destroyed the economy and with it, the middle class; they’ve taken debate and reduced it to insult and insinuation, and they’ve proved to be the grandest hypocrites around. e.e. cummings has a poem in which he strung together every cliche of political speech and ended with the line, “there’s a hell of a good universe next door; let’s go.” While ranting about End Days, they’ve produced a climate in which finding another planet may be the only solution. Hopefully, we as a nation have wised up enough to open the box one more time to let hope out.

Both Hillary and Obama signed onto the DNC rules and regulations, including the agreement that they would not run or campaign in Michigan and Florida (since those two states chose not to follow party rules on primary dates).

After Hillary failed to win the votes needed for the nomination, she basically said “hey I was just kidding when I agreed to abide by the rules of the party. I want to change the rules after the fact so I can win.”

To those who are mindless when it comes to politics, there is a stronger link between Obama and Rev. Wright than there is a link between McCain and Bush. McCain has been a thorn in Bush’s side since day one. McCain was not Baptized nor marrieed by Bush, nor did he sit in Bush’s church for 20+ years or write a book dedicated to Bush. Face it, Obama is behind in the polls during the big DNC pep rally and after naming a VP. How much more will he sink when McCain announces his VP Friday and the RNC begins. Also you want to complain that the media is covering the division in the democratic party. Why, you did not complain when the media was all but calling Obama GOD earlier in the year. Typical democrate opinion it is fine for you to recieve benifits but never ok to recive criticism.

How COULD her speech please Obama. She has said on many occasions that he was NOT ready to be president (but we know that already), and now she is having to eat her words. Talk about your flip-flopping Dimocrats. Say what you mean, Hill, and mean what you say. How do we know WHAT to believe when it comes out of your mouth?

I believe that these folks that still support Bush - and are going to vote for McCain - are obviously the “children left behind” that the Bush administration has been talking about. After all, none of them can read, write or think for themselves.

Why does everyone have to be so emotional and call one another names? I am an independent that does not understand the hatred. Take what you need (the truth as you know it) and leave the rest! It is neither responsible or smart to attack what you do not agree with so vote for what you feel is right and let people be…do your own research and be accountable and stop acting like children.

Michael is right. The only reason Hillary got as many votes as she did was because folks were voting against Obama. The Dems want to blame Bush for everything but what party is control of Congress? Oh, yeah.

Perhaps, we have seen the last of the traveling pantsuits. If Obama rose to the top so can someone else. Hillary might not be the top candidate in 2012. Let’s hope she’s not.

First time in our history that the other candidate jumps ahead in polls during the oppsitions convention! So democraps, before you pour a glass of koolade, explain this one to me. I would love to hear what you have to say about that.

Do the critics on here expect a liberal columnist to go to this Democratic National Convention and not praise her like-minded pols. Tucker is an opinion columnist.

But, I have to admit her tone is a bit giggly and breathless, certainly beneath a Pulitzer Prize winner.

In summary, an independant voter here who reacted as follows to Hillary’s speech. First, a month ago she was saying Obama is not prepared to lead the country, second, the speech was about her, not Obama, third, it still makes me want to puke when the camera pans to Bill and he looks all rightous and happy. What a scumbag! This is the same guy who flavored and cured his cigars with a young employee his daughters age, in the oval office no less!!!! Am I from Mars or would anyone likely be terminal toast in the private sector. Democrats that patronize the Clintons need to have their heads examined. And take their Anzemet!!! The Clinton’s are ethically and morally bankrupt.

“Corporal”, The founding fathers were great men, but they were men. The truth is alot of our founding fathers fought duels with one another. They should under no circumstances be considered infalible deities. The electorial college, in effect, considers the vote of an Alabama plumber to be a little more important than a New York City cab drivers. I’m not sure that’s fair. I am convinced however, that Obama should’nt count as 3/5’s of a man. Another one of their brilliant compromises. The Constitution is a living document given to us to perfect. Not stale dogma to be interpreted by wannabe gods in black robes.I’d like to invite all you consevatives out there to join us here in the twenty-first century. Trust me it’s not as scary as you think.

OH.MY.GOD. some of you people are just complete morons!!!

both hillary and biden said what they needed to say during campaigning because they were running against him. what do you think mccain said when he was running against bush in 2000, and later had to stand behind him as he got the republican nomination?? jeesusss…do your stupid brains not comprehend party unity? she may or may not be completely satisfied with the outcome, but because she’s a politician and is a democrat, f’ing DUH, you join your fellow democratic politicians in getting the party elected.

sometimes i really wish the “right” to vote was licensed like your “right” to drive, because some of you are just outright dangerous in your thinking.

and for what it’s worth…by 2012, hillary will be 65 years old, which is still OLD. why are you all hung up on mccain’s age?

hey SAM:

POLLS ARE MEANINGLESS. guess what? i just took a poll myself…obama is in the lead! i polled only young, college-bound kids on campuses and on myspace. i didn’t go into any neighborhoods that looked like they might support mccain, nor did i call any numbers south of macon.

polls schmolls…they can be skewed to suit whatever candidate they want.

So I guess the members of that congregation here in metro Atlanta where the old man was having “relations” with every female in the congregation (including his brother’s wife), I guess those members can’t ever run for POTUS. Because they stayed in a church with a culture of sin and corruption.

Church (for most) is more than what a pastor says for about 45 minutes a week. It’s about the fellowship of the members, the ministries supported by the church and the entire worship experience (including the choir, scripture lessons, etc). I have been a member of a church with a pastor who puts me to sleep, because I was able to get my spiritual nutrition from the other aspects of that church. Anyone who thinks the church experience is all about a 45 minute speech is clearly missing the meaning of worship.

Face it, all the choices are terrible. What has Obama done that puts him at the top of the democratic party….? Besides being able to read a scripted speech? I guess that tells me that the democrats are pretty lean when it comes to the talent to put in the white house. Obama, Reid, and Pelosi….the three stooges!

Cynthia - you must have been watching a different speech or drinking some strong Kool Aid. Hillary never ceases to amaze me - perfect speech for setting up her 2012 nomination. Everyone in that convention was thinking in unison “Boy did we screw up not nominating her”. Oh yeah, if you listened real close, she gave a few lukewarm endorsements for Barack…because she’s obligated to. She was anything but convincing of her support for Obama and almost went out of her way not to endorse him as a person and as a leader. If Barack gets in the White House, Hillary will never have the chance to run again. If McCain is elected, which he will be, Hillary gets a second chance to make history. Am I the only one who has noticed how lackluster and boring this convention has been? Like watching paint dry…..

Remind us Cynthia - your supporting whom?

Obama is qualified to be president for which reason(s)??

The following is what we can expect (this is “change”??, If so, for whom, and at what cost to those who work for a living?) —

  • He voted against banning partial birth abortion. * He voted no on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. * Supports affirmative action in Colleges and Government. * In 2001 he questioned harsh penalties for drug dealing. * Says he will deal with street level drug dealing as minimum wage affair.. * Admitted marijuana and cocaine use in high school and in college. * His religious convictions are very murky. * He is willing to meet with Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jung Il and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. * Has said that one of his first goals after being elected would be to have a conference with all Muslim nations. * Opposed the Patriot Act. * First bill he signed that was passed was campaign finance reform.. * Voted No on prohibiting law suits against gun manufacturers. * Supports universal health-care. * Voted yes on providing habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees. * Supports granting driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. * Supports extending welfare to illegal immigrants. * Voted yes on comprehensive immigration reform. * Voted yes on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security. * Wants to make the minimum wage a ‘living wage’. * Voted with Democratic Party 96 percent of 2 51 votes. * Is a big believer in the separation of church and state. * Opposed to any efforts to Privatize Social Security and instead supports increasing the amount of tax paid. * He voted No on repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax. * He voted No on repealing the ‘Death’ Tax. * He wants to raise the Capital Gains Tax. * Has repeatedly said the surge in Iraq has not succeeded…. * He is ranked as the most liberal Senator in the Senate today and that takes some doing…

In response to the question poised by Dnet and to “which speech” did Cynthia Tucker listen. I can only say, what planet are you on? Hillary’s speech was an excellent presentation of the political facts of the presidential race. Of course, Dnet is correct about one thing, Bush is not running this campaign. He has not run anything in 8 years because he is incapable of starting car much less running it. No, Cheney and his group of neocon political thugs are running the campaign just like they have run the country for the past 8 years. The Democrats will win in November because of Bush and his failures!

Reminder: Yes, those are all very good reasons to vote for Obama.

Your confusion stems from the false assumption that just because you’re terrified of a smarter, more liberal America, that other voters are too. We’re not; you’re a small and dwindling minority.

To everybody that states America is tired of the Bush admin:

According to RCP Average poll taken between 7/31-8/20/2008: Bush’s approval rating is only 29%, BUT the approval rating for Congress, which is controlled by Democrats is 14%. Which happens to be the lowest approval rating in the history of our Congress. And since January 2007, Bush’s approval ratings have been higher then Pelosi’s!!

So yes, America is sick of President Bush. But America is more sick of Democrats!!

You HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING…Right? Please tell me this was sarcasm that I somehow missed. I challenge you to walk into any country club, or business meeting with successful, intelligent, hardworking men and women and take a poll: Republican or Democrat. I guarantee you that the majority will say Republican. Then I challenge you to go down to your local welfare line, or unemployment agency and take a poll: Republican or Democrat. I gurantee you that the majority will say Democrat.

The truth of the matter is the only successful people who support Obama is the uber-rich celebrities that when the taxes are raised, it will not affect them. The other people that support Obama are the low income people who will benefit from his “tax the rich” stance. Then of course you have the few middle-class, successful people who support Obama because they buy into all the media bull**.

But was it a $30 million speech? I could say anything someone wants me to say if I had a debt like that! Remember, she set all the negative publicity against Obama into place. Like another publication says: which Hillary are you to believe? I believe she’s expecting John McCain to give her a job, or, she’s angling to become Mayor of New York.
