Blacks subdued about Obama win?

St. Simons writer Tina McElroy Ansa says the reaction among African Americans to Barack Obama’s nomination clinch was subdued, considering its historic nature.

“I must still wonder why I, like so many of my brothers and sisters, am still hesitating to light the fireworks, unequivocally celebrate this milestone in our multicultural combined journey for what it says about our country and our citizens,” she writes. “Am I just too afraid to hope? Too jaded to believe? I hate to even consider it, but am I such a whipped dog that when I’m allowed a comfortable spot in the sun and a gentle smile, I’m too cowed to accept it, to believe it, to dare hope?”

Has the reaction been subdued and if so, why?

That’s simple. Obama is still fighting- trying to win the White House. So the brothers and sisters that I’ve talked to were relieved when he won, but they are seeing this guy as a guy that can unite the country.

But as long as the political fight is a fight where race or gender is a demographic, there’s still a lot of work to do.

Why are we always trying to put negative remarks about black people in the paper. In every household that I know of, we were up to 12 midnight capturing every word, statement and commentary regarding this HISTORIC night. Maybe it was just you and your friends that were asleep and unconcerned. Please grow up and stop using the media for negative portraits of us.

Tina,

While I myself don’t feel that I’m subdued, I do express the same apprehension, simply because of the negative, racial comments you hear and read in various forums. The most disappointing comments are those you hear or read when people say they will not vote for Senator Obama simply because he is “Black.” They make excuses like “he has no experience”, or “he is a Muslim”, or, for me, the best one “Why did he stay in as church, which taught hate, for 20 years”. Nowhere do these people, for one minute, address his platform; again, they simply make excuses to satisfy their own prejudice and prejudgement, never even considering doing their own research. These people are poisonous to the election process, and therefore, many Black Americans just don’t feel we have gotten there (see us for what we have to offer, as opposed to the color of our skin) yet.

Thanks for allowing me to comment on a subject that really important, if we ever expect equality in this great nation of ours.

im a black person and i would never vote for obama. he doesn’t say the pledge, and he’s gone to a church for 20 yrs that has a pastor that says “G D America”, instead of God Bless America. You can’t go to the church that long w/out agreeing with what your pastor says. Do ya’ll really want to vote for him just b/c he’s black…b/c theres no way i will.

Read “Dreams of my father” where Hussein Obama rejects his white ancestry, rejects, as he states, “whitey,” etc.

Hussein has a major identity crisis.

He states outright he will side with the Muslims. Hussein wont salute the flag. And the biggest reason to stay away from this dangerous con-man? Because Jimmy Carter endorsed him.

Perhaps blacks are suspicious that somehow, the system will find a way to bring Obama down before he has a shot at making real change.

I wonder where they would get that idea…?

Bill and JimmyZ, you seem concerned that Obama might

*Pursue an unworkable foreign policy *Dismantle our freedoms and *Wreck our economy.

They rightfully should feel subdued! As in all major cities where black mayors and council members have been elected simply because they are black, aggressively assisted by the federal governments interference in local issues, THEY HAVE CAUSED ECONOMIC DISASTER AND FAILURE! OBAMA WOULD, WITH HIS SOCIALIST LEFTIST AGENDA CARRY THAT FAILURE TO A NATIONAL LEVEL!! That would be fine if the only victims would be the voters who elect him, but, sadly it will affect us all and destroy the greatest country in the recorded history of the world!

Most blacks do not like America…they want to change it to a socialist regime. Get the same pay the same benefits the same recognition but want you to give it to them. If you do not give it to them then you are racist. Their idea of compromise is you give up you beliefs traditions and accept their way of doing things. I guess they have not yet been proud to be American. After all they want to be referred as African American….what a joke.

The Constitution gives us the right to be able to speak freely, and it even allows us to right freely, but to make suggestions of someone being shot in the head is just plain ignorant. Although i disagree with this blog completely, the posts in it clearly explains why blacks are subdued about his victory. Its simple no matter who wins the election, Nothing will change until the morals of people like Jimmyz are changed. Jimmyz is the guy who sits in the cube next to you, or the corner office, and acts like he adores the ground you walk on, but then make post like this to express his true feelings. ….Coward…

But what about the Chinese-Americans, Italian-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Polish-Americans, Jewish-Americans, etc.

Why are the Afro-Americans not supporting the platforms for these other minorities? Why are they not marching in the streets for the other minorities and their individual causes? Why is Spike Lee no protesting the lack of Asian-Americans in film…where are the Asian-Americans in his films?

Very curious I must say and this lack of caring/assistance exhibitied by the Afro-American minorities to the other minorities seems…uh, racist.

Perhaps Hussein Obama will change this issue? I wonder what Hussein Obama will change…his message of change rings loud and clear from every hamlet…yet he speaks not in detail of said change.

Josh,

I’m sure you voted for President Bush, so I have to ask you, “did you do your research?” How many times have you or someone in your circle made the comment that anyone would be better in the Whitehouse than Bush/Cheney? If you were so concerned about America, why did you vote them into the Whitehouse a second term? Now we have candidate who has “Stepped-up to the plate” and said “I promise to be that someone who will fix Bush/Cheney’s srew-up of our nation”, and all you people can come up with are your lame excuses. If you or the rest of your kind know so much about running this country, why didn’t you put your name in the hat as a Presidential Candidate? No need to answer that, because we know the answer; you are an ignorant bigot with no aspirations of doing anything in life but complaining and spreading racial hatred. By the way, with a name like “Josh”, please don’t seriously expected people to believe you are Black. True Black Americans are proud people; we insist on being part of the solution to solving American problems as opposed to your kind who are quite simply, “part of the problem”. So Josh, go back to the cave from which you came; America is moving forward, with or without you!

Interesting how only whites are racist and black are never racist.

Interesting how black men insist on dating white women yet if a white man dates a black woman the black men go into a rage.

Interesting how no other culture except afro-american insist on affirmative action quota enforcement.

Interesting how the BET channel promotes no other “single culture” or “minority” channels. One would think the powers that be would insist on AET…the Asian Entertainment channel.

Interesting how Ms Black America isnt considered racist, even by the NON RACIST black race. I wonder what would happen if a white female wanted to be in the Ms Black America contest.

Interesting how this year Morehouse Valedictorian is a white male and even more interesting the attitudes of his non-racist fellow students.

I don’t need to waste precious time describing all the disasters this administation has caused, because you and every American citizen already knows. And, who has it affected? Try every voter that voted for them, and, (suprise) the rest of us that did not. Your excuse is weak; you too are a racial bigot. Josh you are funny! You must have attended his church to know every Sunday that is what Mr. Wright preached! Josh before you judge look into your into your mirror are you perfect it not please stop the hate!

It does not take experience to run this country just look at George Bush. No one has all the experience to qualify for the job of a president. That is why you assemble a great team.

That is why he beat Mrs. Clinton in strategy, money raising efforts and delegates. Quit hating on this man he is very intelligent.

I guess you are pattern after all the people you meet and is around.

I am a man and I don’t agree with a lot of thing for people I known for years but they do not shape nor form who I am. If you are real you will know who you are.

Do you really think Mr. Obama would come on the scene with people believing he is a radical.

People don’t get into the war of words with these idiots(zeke and jimmyz) They have conservative ways. It’s impossible for them to understand what you’re saying since they’ve been programed for this mentality. See when you have a small mind and lack creativity. It’s impossible for you to understand the world is changing around you. Lack of creativity is their crime, since they fear to step outside of their comfort zone. Whenever a man hates like these two have, theirs some type of deficiency. That could mean mentally or physically.

It’s interesting that the term “Subdued” is used to describe a particular mood amongst a minority group of people, who by the way are independent thinkers. I hear a lot of comments from people who claim to know something about the life experience of an African-American, and more often than not, they have not clue as to how we function and how our diverse culture provides the back drop of the America we live in. I’ve never had the benefit of any social programs in my life; my parents were college graduates and earned their living as educators. My upbringing taught me that there are no limitations and that I was in control of my destiny, which was and forever will be directed by GOD. Celebrating the achievement of one of our own is significant because it is a celebration for so many lost lives given for the future of our people. From the slave who could only dream of being free, let alone gaining power to affect change in the world, to the soldiers of battles fought for a country that did not respect or value them! Think about that for a second, when Barack Obama is the next president, it will be the first time in the history of this country that a Black Man will have the power and authority to shape the changes of the world. We’ve had to endure ever good and bad decision from past presidents that have not always had the best interest of the African-American. We were stripped of our ancestral bond and forced to assimilate into a foreign environment. We went from being designated nothing more that property, an animal, to becoming empowered to believe in ourselves and to understand that black is beautiful and rich, passing on that great understanding to every generation. We are not subdued or dismayed; we are pragmatic and understand the full dynamic. We know why the caged bird sings.

A am greatly concerned that it seems as if all blacks are so ga-ga over a hlaf one of them being the democratic pick they have thrown the baby out with the bath water. Do blacks not realize their man will surely double if not more than double their social security taxes and no matter how modest their 401K is he’ll raise your capitol gains taxes in a year where they are taking a beating as it is. Think before you vote. It may be a new concept for some considering the horrific voting records of the past but today is a new day. You’re wanting to elect a man that will raise your taxes and put even more and more on the downward spiral. Face it, blacks have been hit very hard with the housing crisis and foreclosures. They have lost homes and now are losing apartments because of foreclosures yet they want to elect this man simply because they think he is one of them. This does help explain how Cynthia McKinney kept getting elected. I live in a house divided by polictics. I am a die hard republican and my wife and two daughters are democrats, die hard democrats. However this year they’ll hold their noses and vote McCain because of how they feel a woman in the race was treated. They claim to know several women in the same boat. My daughter is part of an online effort to get democratic women to switch parties this one time. Obama is tanking in Florida and the Gov. of Ohio, a state he must take, embarrassed him by publicly saying he’d never consider the VP position, he was on the short list. Obama has some big problems, problems too big for Hollywood and Oprah and 12% of a voting blcok to pull him out of. Obama will not be elected. I will bet my hard earned money on ths fact. Obama will never be President of the US, never.

All I keep hearing is Obama black black black. He makes speeches about how proud he is to be the first black nominee, the black churches all love him, etc. I’ve even seen the interview of his black grandmother in Kenya.

I thought he was half white? I haven’t seen any interviews, pictures, or anything else about the white side of his family. Where are they? Are they in hiding? Is he hiding them?

The mystery continues…

Oh yeah - so where is the Michelle Obama tape everyone was promising? I want to see if she really said “whitey” this and “whitey” that.

Georgia Black, your comments are as obscene as Jimmyz. if we have leaders who can’t stand up to ridicule are they really leaders? ALthough some of your other issues are or were valid. Lets look at it this way Obama cant change all of this, but he can put superior court justices in place that can eventually swing the way this political machine operates. Honestly i don’t think he can do it in 8 years, so there needs to be a strong VP candidate to run with him, or at least a high ranking cabinet position for Collin Powell. So that he can make a run in 2016, and yes he is a repubilican but he has consistent view of how this country can be helped. Our two party system is part of the problem. If these two can lock down consecutive terms by then the political landscape can change, by the placement of judges and local politicians. We need to require more of our local and state politicians. They influence everyday life a lot more than the feds, with the exception of GAS and inflation…Dang this GAS is Murderous. ANY ONE GOT A GAS BLOG I got some stuff to say

With all these ‘comments’ (if you can call them that) its a wonder why race is such a big issue. Seems like some people are so afraid to be viewed as equals with blacks and have to find something to make them believe their better than black people. Until blacks have proven they can run their own communities, and clean up their own neighborhoods,(i.e. Detroit, D.C.,etc.) they have no business trying to run the country for the remaining 88 percent of the population. Prove yourselves first in your own communities and families, and then opportunities will come. Obama is NOT the answer…a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Americans had better wake up before November!

See some of us fear whites and they do strange things to get along. Well I don’t care who you are white, green, purple, or orange if you have a problem with me for no reason and you’re man enough to comfront me. Then we can chop this up like men, if you talk a lot of junk and can’t back it up, then you might catch a Kimbo Slice in the jaw. Yes I’m violent, thanks to your peoples barbaric ways. Can we just share the moment? A multi- racial, non white got the democratic nomination. Stake your claim JimmyZ. Feel proud. Remember not all Blacks voted for Rev. Al Sharpton. Even the black community wasn’t ready for that. We didn’t all run out to vote for Jessie Jackson. It might have something to do with the man himself. Not the color of his skin. Does anyone know what the qualifications for the presidency are? He meets those. If you want something done about any of the issues at hand, understand that it takes money to do that. I am not to sure but I do not think we have a lot of it in our budget. So where do we get it? hmmm. Oh, thats right from the people in the form of taxes. However, we could just leave things the same and keep complaining. Thanks for playing.

Don’t you love those who claim they know people “who will not vote for Senator Obama simply because he is ‘Black’? I’ve heard NO one make that claim. The same poster says, “[These people] make excuses like ‘he has no experience’, or ‘he is a Muslim’, or, for me, the best one ‘Why did he stay in as church, which taught hate, for 20 years’.” These reasons are not only true, they are valid reasons not to vote for him. Be blind if you don’t know how to remove your blinders, if you refuse to open your closed mind, but I want a president who HAS experience, who doesn’t align him or herself with alienating racists, and frankly who doesn’t insist on distributing “wealth” in a country that is NOT a communist, socialist, or fascist country. The funniest, truly funniest statement by the poster is “Nowhere do these people, for one minute, address his platform.” Excuse me, WHAT platform? All I hear from Obama is government subsidized programs - take from them, give to you. That is not a platform. That is rotten tomatoes for hard-working, motivated, ethical citizens who refuse to agree to support the non-working, unmotivated, dishonest segment and illegal immigrants. Would lower class, uneducated laborers agree to give up what they rightly earned? Neither do we.

Jimmy Z tells it like it is. Having just finished reading all the comments made in this blog, his is the most honest. The truth hurts those who disagree with him, I for one (and 75% of WHITE America)agree with everything he says. Omaba (with the WHITE MAMA) can not make the Black people proud, hes half and half altho he doesn’t recognize his WHITE mama , hes stuck with it. He would continue to ruin America (kinda like the other past presidents before him) blacks would continue to RIOT in the streets when things don’t go their way-like WELFARE check being late, etc etc. Muslims almost rule the USA and all the other non-muslims countries they took over, and hes a MUSLIM so whos side will he take?? We know. We are facing a very economic slow down, people are losing their jobs, and gas is nearing $5 per gallon and all you can say about the man is that he’s black and his middle name is Hussein. This is not a racial issue, but instead a class issue. Doesn’t it seem strange that the vast majority of candidates for public office are people of means. If you narrow that down to elected officials, that majority becomes even larger. During the election campaign, the candidates tell us everthing we need to hear in order to garner our votes. After they are elected, they seem to forget that we ever mattered. That’s when their true colors begin to show. Although they talk of the will of the people, they only respond to the might of the dollar. This election is unfortunately no different. The might of the dollar will prevail. I wish that this were not true but it is. In the end, the winner of this election will also serve the desires of the rich. In four years the candidates will return to woo us with their inspiring words so as to be elected and rule over us again. Same as it ever was!!!!!

Tina McElroy’s writing as well as this AJC Opinion blog is insipid & plainfully tasteless.

Unfortunately it is an ordinary display of how opportunist journalism is today in America.

Quote from the reference above “the reaction among African Americans to Barack Obama’s nomination clinch was subdued, considering its historic nature.”

Allow me to define subdued to you perhaps it is not clearly defined in your vocabulary….

it is a lack in vitality(physical or mental strength/ force)and intensity.

Americans have verbally spoken and insisted that thd Presidential Election is not a racial campaign regardless of the nominees. We have been advised-Americans vote for your candidate of choice by their credentials and agenda.

Yet you have the audacity to speak and clearly delegate to a race that once the nomination was received the support is subdued.

My problems with that are the following 1. if it would have been any other writer from a different race would you see this article as derrogatory or because you mention “my brothers and sisters” makes it ok to you?!

  • Isn’t the fact that Obama was a running candidate for Presidency historic enough? Being the nominee just made it even a bigger stepping stone in history.

  • What did you want a “block party” to celebrate the nomination…for God’s sake…. can’t please anyone this days..

  • Why not use your “journalistic talents” and speak about what really matters- Use your talents and abilities to show Americans what your choice in candidate believes and what issues he stands for lets say…for starts about his economic agenda or his enviromental issues, lets discuss what he is really thinking when he has a clean energy future plan the pros and cons we can foresee in his agenda….education, civil rights, fiscal policies, etc… the ability to overcome the now known “mainstream toughtless media” and bring back what made journalism so powerful. Give back its freedom of speech in our here United States of America. We the citizens demand it!

It can be unsettling for people to acknowledge real change, because it is life altering and you have to adjust with it or reject it. Most of the time; those who reject it get run over or left behind. That’s where we are as a nation, we are moving quickly with the winds of change. Race matters when dealing with a majority attempting to hold on to a false sense of supremacy that is quickly evaporating. No longer will the decisions that affect everyone be made by one single race. The future will bring collective leadership where all people are represented. Now for those of you making comments about welfare checks, rap music, criminal behavior, etc. You seem to view African-Americans through a narrow lens, one that makes us all look and act the same way. Every day of my life, I live and project my character first and foremost, race is interjected when the forces of insecurity arises, i.e., I walk into a store and the security guard watches my every move, I go to a car dealership to shop for a vehicle and receive no customer service from sales people. I could go on forever, but the point is, it’s not what divides us that need to be focused on, it’s what unites us. And that is the belief that we all are entitle to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And I’m voting for change because I want integrity and honesty from my elected officials. Tell me the truth, because I can handle that! Untangling a web of lies is much harder. The truth will always set you free.

Let’s get back to the topic: “Blacks subdued about Obama”. Of course, do you think Obama represents the blacks who wear their pants down to their knees, wear “do rags” and backwards/sideways baseball caps on their head (even in the hottest days of summer), load their hair with greasy palm-aid, and expect reparations for their ancestors who were slaves?

No, Obama represents the middle-class blacks who realize they (and their issues) are no “different” than any whites.

Obama is educated, speaks well, has futurist ideas (which America needs) and he just happens to be half-black.

I’ll take Obama any day vs. the lying, free spending (and they call the democrats “tax and spend”), neo-Christian (bible thumping), and military hawks who are the Republican Party today.

The GOP can send our soldiers to an unjustified war, pay them little or nothing, extend their deployment, and when they are killed or injured, do not support their families or give the injured the long-term medical care they need. Then to make matters even worse, the GOP vetos a bill to give our troops the equipment and support they need because (as they put it—it costs too much).

The cost is in human lives and our tax dollars being spent in Iraq and NOT in America. Billions upon billions of dollars in deficit money, for what gain?

    McCain will continue this disaster.

    Josh, Craig and JimmyZ

Josh and Craig, first of all Josh is not Black? No, his name does not have to be Jerome. Both of you are just showing your ignorance and prejudice. Josh, you need to hope Sen. Obama win because he will at least try to help the education system, so there will be no more illerate people like you. Anyone who spell I with a small i is definitely a mental midget. Josh, I’m sure that you do not know the pledge of allegiance. Josh, you said this is a christian nation, well I guess you do not belong to this nation, because you are definitely not a christian. You Josh, belong to the Satan nation, because you are totally have evil in your heart. I know that I should not have given you credit for having a heart, but I am a Christian so I try to give you the benefit of the doubt.

JimmyZ, there is no hope for you. You have sprouted a lot of racial nonsense. I will bet you that you would never go up to a Black Man or Black Woman and say any of that crap that you have written. I guess you feel safe written racist nonsense. JimmyZ you are not safe because God knows everything you say and do.

I feel sorry for the three of you because you are all so miserable and are consumed with hate. You three are trully a case to establish a mental compentence requirement for voting. Believe me, you would not pass. In the event that you slip through, believe me Sen. Obama and the rest of his supporters, Blacks, Whites, Italians, Asians, Hispanics and others will not miss the three of you voting for him. Most likely you do not vote, you are just three miserable excuses for human being that are unhappy with their lot in life and want to make others unhappy. You figure that misery loves companies, well us happy people feel sorry for you three miserable mentally deficient individuals.

    Bee Jay,

I am the “poster” you referred your comments. A couple of questions for you, since your boy “Josh” is chicken to address: Are you capable of doing research or are you just like your boy Josh? You folks shoot of your mouth, with no substance, facts, nor literature for reference. And no, I will not excuse you for being ignorant and then trying to pass that crap on as facts. You won’t say it (probably because you are a closet racist bigot), but the only reason you are spreading this garbage is because he is black. What I (and many other voting Americans) ask is, vote for whom you wish, for what ever your reasons; however, please, don’t talk about people whom you know nothing about. I guess a platform does not include items such as, ending a war that never should have been started (I was a soldier at the start of this war with 26 years of Army service to my country, something you nor Josh can claim), strategically establishing programs that will bring jobs back to the United States, addressing the issue of high cost health care (something the current administration obviously cares nothing about, considering they have over 4000 Military deaths on their hands and tens of thousands of injured veterans that have not been taken care-of), addressing the issues of declining benefits for our Military Veterans returning from a “War that never should have been started.” Actually Bee Jay, I could go on, but again, it’s people like your kind, who for some reason, will not pick up a book, read a magazine, research the internet, check the Library of Congress or anything else to help you make smart, inform decisions.
Finally, It makes me sick to know that I and my comrades served more than half our lives (and continue to served in other capacities) just to come home and find that people like you, Josh, JimmyZ, and Mexico03 still exist. Now, if either of you come back and say “you read” or “you do research”, then the readers of this site will have their answer.

Well Tina, lets look at the other side of the coin, there have been many blacks thats have said pubilcally that they won’t vote HRC because she is white and or becauseshe is a woman. Statements like the ones you have made are very inflamitory too. just because YOU and many like you think everyone is racist because they don’t agree with Obama makes it all the worse. What are you going to call blacks that have spoken against or won’t vote for him? Many voters (Black AND White) won’t vote for him simply because they don’t BELIEVE or TRUST him, not because of the color of his skin, but according to many like you, we are all racist or “Uncle Toms” right?

I think Obama is a great candidate. I dont think he would make a better president than Hillary Clinton though because Hillary has a lot more experience. I feel, however, that Obama would be better served by picking Hillary Clinton as his VP because Im afraid that that will be the ONLY way to keep McCain out of the White House. If McCain gets in the White House, then I believe that the country will continue on a downward spiral with gas prices continuing to soar, foreclosures at an oil time high, and food prices skyrocketing out of control. If Obama gets in without the help of Hillary Clinton, the economic situation may be worse than what americans are experiencing now. Taxes will soar and gas prices will go way out of control. If Obama gets in without a strong woman to assist him like Hillary to fight OPEC and bring the gas prices down. I would venture to say that under Obama, we may see gas prices get to $12.00 per gallon and beyond which would cause Armigeden to commence and eventually cause an economic genocide to become a reality. It would also start a war which would be even more deadly than the war with IRAC ha been. The only presidential ticket that makes sense is OBAMA/CLINTON. Then I believe the country has a fighting chance to be great once again. On the other hand, if McCain gets in the White House he may raise the retirement age to 95.

I believe that if McCain gets in the White House, it will almost be as bad as Osama Bin Ladin running the country. On the other hand, if Obama makes the critical mistake of not selecting Hilary Clinton as his VP, then any other candidate would be analagous to having a Obama/Osama ticket as in Osama Bin Ladin. Bin Ladin has already put his stamp or trademark on the World Trade Towers and having someone in the white house like Obama without any experience and then selecting a novice running mate would have been no better than if Obama had found Osama Bin Ladin where he is hiding and offered him the VP slot personally. This country is heading down the toilet quickly and we need someone in there to halt these riduculous gas prices, food prices and catastrophic inflation that is causing so much pain to the american public.

I have ask 24 blacks what his stand on the issue is, any issue, and there were only 3 that could give me any kind of answer and only 1 of those did a good job of it. You cannot have it both ways.

I ma having a hard time with the perception we have going on here that if a white person does not vote for Obama then we’re racist. Yet, it a black did not vote for Hillary, it’s not racial. Huh? Do blacks always have race on the mind? I have a list of things I don’t like about Obama and none of them involve his race. I simply do not think he has the experience and I fear he will raise my taxes and I am already pinching pennies as it is to buy gas and food. I think calling whites racist for not voting Obama will only serve to widen the already existing racial divide. This will only divide people more and more and people thinking about Obama may react in such a way that they vote McCain. Be careful how you play the race card. We see Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson play it as often as they can and look where it’s gotten them. Very few whites take Al or Jesse serious, we can’t. Do you want this to happen to Obama too? Everytime the race card is tossed out, it’s usually those calling foul that ends up on the short end of the stick. Be careful.

Being a black woman I was never going to vote for either Barrack because he is black or for the Hilderbeast because she’s woman. I was brought up to be independent and if I wanted certain things in life I had to work for it. Not to depend on anyone but myself. But all I see around me are people who still use their environment as an excuse to why they can’t make it in the world. Yes, my parents prepared my brothers and sisters for the real world that no matter what you did in life there would be some who would not accept you because of the color of my skin. But we never used it as an excuse as to why we couldn’t succeed in life. That’s why it really burns me to see so many blacks following behind barrack Obama. I don’t believe in redistribution of income because I don’t feel I have to give my hard earned money to some low life who spends their time watching soaps or standing on a street corner waiting for a welfare check. Or some woman having babies after babies by men who don’t pay child support. Charity begins at home and that’s where I want my money spend my money. In my home and not yours.

First, let me say WOW! It appears that there has been no change in this country except the fact that now everyone is struggling even those who thought they had it all. Regardless of race and gender we are all affected. Our soldiers are dying for nothing and our current administration doesn’t care. Chenney said “SO” when a reporter asked him to respond to the American people’s disapproval. What has to happen before we can see real change? I was intially a Hillary supporter but she lost me early in the primary. I wasn’t going to vote for Barack Obama because he was black. I am voting for him now because he is a Democrat. I am a strong, educated, taxpaying black women who was raised to do hard work like my enslaved ancestors. Although Barack doesn’t have much experience in the White House, for which slaves where forced to build, I believe in opportunity. Experience can not be obtained without someone giving you an opportunity. I have lived through Reagan,Bush,Clinton and Bush Jr. Out of the twenty years these presidents we have served, there were only had 8 decent years with Bill Clinton. It is time for a change and it is not with the republican party. Change is difficult but change is good. This election is not about RACE/GENDER but CHANGE and most definitely survival. If we don’t get it together we will be more vulnerable to not only other countries but to those Americans who are self serving and there will never be change but destruction.

Barack may end of selecting a black running mate to go on his VP ticket. From my vantage point, Barack has 3 incredible afro-american choices to choose as his new VP. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpeton or Louis Farrikan would make excellent choices to join Barrack on an all african american ticket. If Barrack selects a black when he goes into the white house would the house during Barracks tenure be referred to as the Black House because it would now house black people or would it still be referred to as the White House. Would there be any ramifications about what the house would be called because I dont know which is why Im mentioning this. The simple fact of the matter is that Im not a racist at all. It seems to me that in the past the white house was called that because it housed white people, but if Barrack gets in and he chooses a black to go in as his VP, I think this is a viable question.
