How about gay presidential candidate?

“The U.S. could soon have something it’s never had: a black or a female president.

“But what if one of the presidential candidates was gay?”

That is the question posed by an op-ed piece in today’s AJC.

“Could a gay person get elected to high office in a country where it’s still legal in many states for companies to refuse to hire someone because of his or her sexual orientation?”

This is really a pathetic question. Why not just put up a blog asking if Bush is anti-gay. That would stir up the hatred. Ridiculous!

I was born left-handed. I was born with my father’s long nose and wish my mother’s long legs. And I was born a lesbian.

None of these characteristics disqualify me from serving as president or in any other elective or appointive office, just as none of these characteristics entitle me to any office.

I am who I am. If I could convince voters of my abilities to serve them well, they should elect me on that basis, not because of the fact — or in spite of the fact — that I’m a woman, white, a lesbian, middle-aged, Democratic, liberal, or anything else. Period.

What about a pedophile president. You know, one who doesn’t act it out (that would be against the law) but just one who has those inclinations.

And then, one with multiple wives. First, Second and Third Ladies!

If you can’t draw the line somewhere - you can’t draw it anywhere.

If you check your history books on President James Buchanan, you’ll discover we have already had a gay president.

By James

To Volunqeer:

That’s debatable but if so he didn’t make a big deal of it. That’s the problem. We’re tired of having it shoved in our faces. Tolerance is one thing but it doesn’t mean elevating someone’s lifestyle or beliefs to the same level as one’s own. We’re tired of the recruiting of our young people and the political agenda.

By Caroline

James: What does a pedophile have to do with a gay adult? Being gay doesn’t make someone a child abuser any more than being straight would make someone a child abuser.

Believe it or not, most pedophiles, regardless of the sex of the children they abuse—consider themselves heterosexual.

And what does a gay president have to do with a polygamist? Those are clearly distinct, separate ideas, especially since polygamists are HETEROSEXUAL.

You “slippery” slope people are neanderthals. Go back into you cave until you can make a more coherent argument to discriminate against someone solely based on their sexual orientation instead of the content of their character.

I would not vote for a homosexual if he/she has a desire to openly promote that lifestyle; or has “come out of the closet” in an overwhelming heterosexual society. I believe that alternative lifestyles are extremely personal; and they should not be shared or forced upon the general public.

If a person is seeking public office, including the Presidency, and I suspect that his/her sexual orientation is homosexual, my suspicion whether true or false wouldn’t prevent me from casting a vote for the best available candidate.

Dear Caroline:

You make my point. They are all a serious character flaw:

Heterosexual Adultery Homosexuality Pedophilia Polygamy

I would never knowingly vote for a President who pushes any of them.

P.S. Most people who openly support alternative lifestyles do so to subliminally assuage their own activities (i.e., the sexual sin of adultery). It’s makes them feel better.

It fires me up every time someone lumps us gays into the pedophile category. Good grief! I am 30 years old and my partner is the same age. We’ve been together for years (plural) and neither of us are attracted to younger men, let alone children! You people need to get a life!
And BTW - This gay wouldn’t want to be president of a country full of so much hate (re: gay bashers, Rev. Wright, W Bush, Pat Robertson, etc.).

K - you weren’t born a lesbian - you choose to commit lesbian acts - you could commit hetero acts with some self control - there are plenty of good church camps and programs that could turn you normal - but, at the end of the day, you’re no different than the person who chooses to smoke, or eat too much, or tan all year round; so do what you want

By CJ

Wild Bill Hiltner, with your logic, someone chooses to be gay - Yes or No decision. If they choose No, they choose to be straight. That would mean all of the straights also experienced that same decision and make a choice to be straight.

I’m a gay man who knew he was gay in 7th grade middle school. We had no gay people around us in our neighborhood or family, so I had no cultural influence. I just came to realize a natural attraction to guys. Plain and simple.

Hey! Haven’t you guys heard about the new research results of homosexual genes?

In the new work they have discovered a gene in fruit flies they call “genderblind,” or GB. And altering levels of glutamate change the strength of nerve cell junctions, called synapses, which play a key role in human and animal behavior. Researchers found that all male fruit flies with a mutation in their GB gene courted other males. “It was very dramatic,” “The GB mutant males treated other males exactly the same way normal male flies would treat a female.”

The researchers genetically altered synapse strength, independent of GB. They also gave flies drugs to alter synapse strength. As predicted, they were able to turn fly homosexuality on and off, within hours. “It was amazing, said one researcher. I never thought we’d be able to do that sort of thing, because sexual orientation was supposed to be hard-wired,” “This fundamentally changes how we think about this behavior.”

You see, being gay is not genetic after all. In fact, we may soon have a glutamate pill to cure it. Would you take it to be normal? Or would you then think that un-normal??

The AJC does love to bait us on stuff like this but I’ll bite.

CJ, I figured out I liked to steal candy from K-mart when I was in the 7th grade, it is still sin. We are all born with a sin nature that manifests itself differently in each individual and some happens to be an attraction to the same sex while some are cruel to others or prideful or whatever. What matters is how we act on this nature and whether we figure out the only true way to conquer it is through the one that can offer true forgiveness and redemtion from it. I agree that we live in a hypocritical society that gives a pass to heteralsexual sin and condems the ones that aren’t an issue for most. It all comes down to our actions and the choices we make in life, not doing what we “feel” is right to us. Humans are flawed and can’t depend on their own moral compass. We need and have a standard bearer to measure up to. I encourage you to seek him out and he’ll change your heart.

No better than the rest only forgiven and working to be better by Christ’s standard.

We may say the country was founded on godly principals, but in reality, it was founded on devilish principals that endorsed the owning of slaves, the frequent killing and raping of slaves, the separation of families, and the killing of Native Americans. I hope these are not the Godly principals you are referencing.

For me, I don’t care if the person is male or female, white or non-white, gay or straight, atheist or Christian or Muslim. All I care is they are a true Democrat.

It’s pathetic that people still use the extracurricular attributes to judge the worth of another person. Look at all the hate laws and state constitutional amendments that were passed barring gays from the same Riggs as non-gays. I thought we were all through with a segregated society.

Apparently, the Rethuglicons have taken the ‘divide and conquerer’ approach to winning elections. Make everyone else unacceptable so their candidates are the only ones left to elect. Just look at the smear campaign Chambliss ran on Max Cleland. Comparing Cleland with bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. “If you’re not with us; you’re against us” saith George Bush. That kind of irrational logic can be applied to any group.

When you vote Rethuglicon, you vote against your own best interests. And these hate laws are living proof.

I happen to be gay. I knew I preferred boys when I was 5. I knew nothing about sex when I was 5. Your choice theory is bunk - it belongs with those theories about the earth being flat. BUT far more importantly, my God - yes the very one from the Old AND New Testament - who I have know all my life, who has saved me many times and who I communicate with every day of my life, told me through my communications with HIM and through the Holy Words of the Bible that HE and HE alone will judge me and tell me what is a sin and what sins I may have committed during my mortal life when I reach the gates to the Kingdon of Heaven and whether I deserve any punishment in the afterlife or if I am forgiven by HIM and taken into Heaven. So please, don’t tell any human being what sins they may or may not have committed, unless you can show them an Amendment to the Bible in which God tells us that HE has delegated HIS authority and power to judge mankind to you or any other being on this planet!

Wild Bill Hitler,

Your example is what we call a “false analogy”. Physical and emotional attraction is not analagous to your violent impulses in traffic. Stop being intellectually dishonest…bub.

I did not choose who I am attracted to. I do choose whether to act on it or not.

It’s not illegal, my family supports me, and I’m not religious (so I don’t give squat what the bible says).

So I can’t see any reason why I shouldn’t act on my innate (that means “born with”) attraction to other men…

except one: my monogamous partner.

And by the way, it is people like you that define us only by our sexual activity, not us.

I love how people who are straight try to tell us gays that we weren’t born that way. How the hell does a straight person know if a gay person was born that way? I know I’m gay, and I was born this way. And with that being said, how can being something that God made you as be a sin? It’s impossible.

Wild Bill and Pandora sound fun to hang out with. I would like to know when each of you “chose” to be heterosexual. Did you make a list? Weigh the pros and cons? At what age? Maybe try each sex out? Experiment and then make an informed decision? No. It was a feeling or attraction that was BORN into you.

As for the Bible - nice collection of stories. Read Leviticus 11:1-47. It says not to eat pigs, shellfish, rabbits, ostrich and more - I’m sure you’re already following those words though.

This is intended ONLY for gay people out there who claim to be born-again Christians. Everyone else please ignore it:

Romans 1: 26 & 27 (From the Apostle Paul)

26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

AND - if you don’t like what Paul said then here is what the Apostle Peter says about what Paul wrote:

2 Peter 3: 14-16

14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

TAKE IT UP WITH GOD ………… AND IF THAT MEANS CELIBACY - SO BE IT.

To all these wonderful people that think being gay is a choice, when did you choose to be straight? Does that mean you have gay impulses and choose to fight them???

Your circular argument is very flawed. By the very statement that we have a choice, means you had a choice ( and gay desires as well) and that makes you by definition at least Bisexual!!!

So all you “Pro Choice” in the gay is a choice argument, its time to come out of your closet. Oh, what is this??? you never had any gay thoughts or desires??? So you mean your heterosexuality isn’t a choice???

You can’t have it both ways. If you think its a choice then that means you had to choice between your. desires for men and women. If you never had these desires, then maybe I never had any desires to be straight either!
