Hillary for Supreme Court justice?

James Andrew Miller says Sen. Barack Obama should promise rival Sen. Hillary Clinton a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court as a way to foster party unity “without forcing a political marriage” i.e. offering Hillary the VP nomination.

As VP, Hillary and Bill Clinton could make life miserable for Obama, Miller writes. Is that a way out of the Democratic deadlock? Read column here.

Obama should make her UN Ambassador. It’s a huge title on the world stage, but really has no power. The world loves the Clintons, so this would be a win for our country. She and Bill would be commuting distance from thier jobs - his office is in Harlem - which is a plus. She could gun for UN Secretary General. And neither one of them is in DC interfering with the Obama administration. UN Ambassador would be perfect for Hillary. (Although she’s no Andy Young! Not even a Jean Kirkpatrick.)

Not sure why we are even talking about this….Obama will not win the electoral college this fall, and thus will not have a position to appoint anyone…Maybe he can go back and sit at the knees of Ayers, Wright and Farrakhan to plot his next move….

This will never fly - between her shenanigans with the Rose Law Firm, the brief with lies she wanted to file while on the legal staff of the House Judiciary Committee during Watergate (it would have been grounds for disbarrment) and her inability to answer direct questions (“I’m sorry - I can’t recall”) she’d be before the Confirmation Committee the length of the next Presidency.

I do not understand why Hillary is such a sore loser. Mr Obama doesn’t have to offer her anything.. Did you hear that she’s arranging buses to go to Washington next week to picket the DNC meeting that’s going to make the decision on the Flordia and Mich delegates. Someone needs to stop the maddness..The Super delegates can put a end to this now..

Oh, Pleeze, get rid of these Clintons, send them home to Arkansas. Hopefully the only position they will get it ahead of the line in prison. These crooks don’t deserve any political pandering for they are surely benefiting from their connections. Enough with these sorry people. And why should Obama or anyone else give them anything, and why should everyone else be passed over just to give her a seat. That is the most ridiculous and stupid thing I have ever heard. She is hated by the majority of the people in this country who in the heck wants her around any longer. We hope NY sends her another message…GET OUT!

A demagogue is defined as “someone who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions and prejudices of the people”. As we approach the (Democratic Convention/2008 election), I already have a multitude of reasons why I would never vote for Hillary Clinton including her stance on the rights of unborn children, her disdain for the U.S. military and her socialist touch on every program or policy she proposes. However, if for no other reason, her unbridled demogoguery at the end of the 2000 Presidential election showed me just how far she would go in a disingenuous and even dangerous effort to gain popular support. President Bush lost the popular vote but won the electoral vote and thus the election; the U.S. Supreme Court solidifying his victory with a narrow 5 to 4 ruling. Then Mrs. Clinton, a Yale Law School graduate who knew better, angrily insinuated to the American masses that Vice President Gore had been robbed of the election since he won the popular vote. She even stated that one of her first acts as a U.S. Senator would be to propose legislation eliminating the electoral college (she thankfully failed in that attempt). I guess she felt she possessed more wisdom than James Madison and our other founding fathers. Unfortunately, the great majority of American voters are totally ignorant of the purpose of the electoral college and the incredible history of how this country was founded. Hillary used this sad ignorance to appeal to the public’s fears and to incite them during a time of Constitutional crisis when Florida’s electoral votes were still in doubt and the rule of law and calm needed to be promoted. She knew full well the electoral college was instituted to protect the influence of the smaller states, that those states would never have signed the Constitution without it and that it prevents one region of the country from dominating others in being able to choose a President. It forces a Presidential candidate to appeal to the nation as a whole as opposed to just densely populated areas. In effect, it attempts to bring us together as a nation rather than dividing us as a direct popular vote would. This is the United STATES of America not the United PEOPLE of America; it is thankfully a constitutional republic and not a pure reactionary democracy and there’s a big difference. Our present “electoral system” allowing the States to have a proper and constitutional role in electing a President mitigates demagoguery. Hillary’s desire for a “popular vote” system would allow demagoguery to thrive. She showed me her true colors back then in her blatant effort to do anything in a quest for power and that reveals the naked soul of a dangerous demagoguerette.

I thought that for someone to be in the Supreme Court he or she would have had at least an understanding of the Constitution and some measure of respect for it. Hillary certainly does not fit the bill on either. The faster this wretched politician and her philandering husband disappear from public life the better we will all be. I can certainly say that she is one of the very few people who scare me.

The way out for the Democratic Party is to inform the Clintons to conduct themselves as most people. That is: following the rules established prior to any of the primary presidential processes, accepting that she is a loser, and that any agreements for a specific appointment or payment of campaign debts earns one the label of being totally corrupt morally.

Clinton bashers are so entertaining but I’m a bit over the thrill after months of this stuff. It would be great fun to draw and quarter the numb skulls who keep this up. At this point all your doing is driving away votes from the Democrats. I know this is asking a lot but why don’t you cut it out and expending your energy in a positive manner to try and elect a Democrat if that is what you want, or is the excitement of releasing your bile just to much to forego?

I read Miller’s article. How does that pass as a professional column? Everything would be nice, and Hillary would be happy and Obama would be happier if he offered Hillary the court job? Ridiculous. Arbitrary speculation. Fantastic and whimsical visions of sugar plums.

Well, if Hillary gets outta hand, just offer her New York’s Senate Seat. D’oh! That ones taken, darn. O, well, how about the Supreme Court?

WTF? I protest with every punctuation mark I can muster, and this Mr. Miller better count his lucky stars that I dont know how to type an umlaut, because I want to put that umlaut where the sun dont…….(the ajc apologizes for this lunatic, we had to pull the plug on his comment, he is a very bad man and small children should not be exposed to him. Blog on, in his stead.)

Hotlanta,

I hope you know what Copyleft is doing. He is an anti-war activist Dem and does not want the War Funding Bill passed. So Democrats in Congress have overloaded the War Funding bill with other benefits (billions). Some benefits were for veterans. Democrats want to impede the war by claiming Bush does not want to help veterans. The whole idea is to delay/stop the funding for our troops.

Unless there are 2 Democratic parties, we Democrats still do not have a nominee to run for President! I wish to God you people in the media would stop putting the cart before the horse. Every exit poll shows that Hillary would beat McCain in the general election and Obama would not. This Hillary supporter will not vote for Obama if Obama gets the nomination and I will not and cannot be convinced otherwise!

CJ: That’s fine. We don’t need closed-minded, stubborn idiots making important decisions for the country—we’ve already had eight years of that.
