President Bush calls Barack Obama an appeaser?

This from the Associated Press: “In a speech in Israel, President Bush, without naming names, criticized those who “believe we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along.” He called the approach “the false comfort of appeasement,” and one that has been discredited by history.

The strong words came as the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, has expressed a willingness to meet with the leaders of U.S. adversaries, including Iran and Syria. However, White House press secretary Dana Perino flatly rejected the idea that the Knesset remark was aimed in any way at Obama, and Johndroe said Bush was referring to “a wide range of people who have talked to or suggested we talk to Hamas, Hezbollah or their state sponsors.” Former President Carter recently held talks with Hamas leaders.

Obama said in a statement that “it is time to turn the page on eight years of policies that have strengthened Iran and failed to secure America or our ally Israel.”

Was Bush talking about Obama? And does his criticism have merit. Will it help or hurt Obama to be attacked by President Bush?

Bush needs to attack Obama Hussein over this. Obama Hussein wants to befriend our enemies. By the way, Hamas has fully endorsed Obama Hussein. That right there tells me all I need to know about Obama Hussein Bin Laden.

Wow, Truth, you are so blind. When Reagan reached out to “our enemies” in Russia, was he wrong?

Wait, nevermind, you won’t listen to anything anyone says, so I guess it’s not worth the effort.

But Bush is misrepresenting anyone who wants peace, and is willing to talk to all sides to bring about that peace.

Unfortunately, the path of “not talking at all” has not brought us any closer to peace, so maybe dialogue can help the situation. Maybe not, but until talks are underway, NO progress can be claimed.

Logical Dude, Reagan took down the USSR if I remember history correct. And, the Soviets didn’t back him for president. Hammas has endorsed Obama Hussein for president. That’s a fact my friend.

By the way, peace doesn’t happen without force. If you know of a case where peace just happens then please let me know. Because the arabs have been hating jews and americans for years. Dialogue does nothing but give our enemies time to kill us.

dumassdave, Last time I checked, Bin Laden was a lot tougher to deal with than Hillary. Obama Hussein will be praying to Mecca five times a day and won’t care what our enemies do to us.

Reagan did not negogiate he told them very plainly to take down the wall. A position of power. Someone who will not vote for Barack Obama simply because he has no idea of how to lead this nation. After 7+ years with Bush I’d welcome any president with a leadership skill set whether he/she was Muslum or not. Here is a revelation: Most Muslums are peaceful, loving people.Christians also. Three boys were walking the country side when a mad dog came to attack. One boy got scared and started to run. The dog cahsed and bit him. The second boy chased and threw stones at the dog.The Dog turned against him to fight back. The third boy stood firm, had no fear on face and stared at the dog as if questionning it “why”. The dog got scared, became silent and walked away. Terrorists are not different from mad dogs ( and snakes). “Talk” to them. Show no fear.Be willing and ready to strike if they dont listen. We haven’t been attacked since 9/11? What a pointless statement disguised as an argument. We also haven’t been hit by an asteroid, been bombed by the Japanese, nor attacked by the Viet Cong since then. Don’t give Bush credit for nothing happening. What you CAN give him credit for is:

  • North Korea has nuclear weapons and ballistic missles; 2. An unpopular military dictator with nuclear bombs is losing power to anti-American fanatics in Pakistan; 3. Iran is arming terroists in Iraq, building nuclear capabiliites, and telling us which butt cheek to kiss; and 4. China has tested missles that can shoot down our satelites and now has so much economic power, they can export poisonous products to the U. S. with complete impunity. Thanks Georgie!
  • P. S. Reagan also dealt directly with the enemy (Iranian terrorists) both to get elected (remember the hostages) and the Iran Contra Scandal.

And peace doesn’t happen by itself? It’s been a while since someone attacked Switzerland. Maybe it pays to mind your own business.

Mr. Bush’s comments are disingenuous and really kind of laughable considering that this is the man who has single handedly ruined our reputation in the world and our economy with his lurching foreign policy and his notion that he is the savior of the world. These comments like Bush himself are irrelevant and if he had any intelligence at all he would keep his mouth shut until he can slink back to Crawford, TX like the failure he is.

Another example of Obama’s foreign policy judgement You decide…

  • August 2007 debate: Obama makes vocal case for striking terrorists inside Pakistan “Let me make this clear: There are terrorists holed up in those mountains, that murdered 3,000 Americans,” said Obama during the counterterrorism address. “If we have actionable intelligence about high-valued terrorist targets and if President Musharraf will not act, we will.” http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=3458915

  • McCain, Hillary, Dodd, Biden all critisize him saying we should not be working against Musharraf our only advocate in the region

  • December 2007: Bhutto assassinated by terrorists

  • The Washington Post reported that in late January, a CIA aircraft fired on several buildings in the Pakistani town of Mir Ali, killing a senior al-Qaida commander and several others. The paper, quoting anonymous U.S. officials, said that the action was done without seeking approval from the Pakistani government.

  • Mid February ‘08, Musharraf voted out of power; US has spent $11B trying to prop. up Musharraf

  • Late February, Senator Dodd endorsed Obama

  • Obama’s 2002 NO-HOLDS-BARRED Iraq speech took real courage. It risked his Senate run (announced 3 months later)WHILE the wise-men/women of Congress took comfort in voting as group to support the Iraq war resolution. http://www.digg.com/politics/FulltextofBarackObamas2002SpeechAgainsttheIraq_War

I agree with Brian. Bush is not smart enough to attack Obamma (with a cogent, logical, historically accurate argument). Iraq/The Middle East in 2003 has not connection to Germany/Europe in 1939. Nazi Germany was a unified nation and by 1940, had annexed, invaded and occupied just about all of Western Europe. Iraq had “15 minutes of fame” in Kuwait in 1990. It was somewhat stable under Saddam, but it has always been, and will continue to be a nation divided by sectarian difference, which have existed for thousands of years. I wonder if Bush is aware of the irony in his statement? There have been countless “ingenious arguement(s)” (CIA and Department of State Studies, etc.), which clearly demonstrate that he “has been wrong all along”. At the end of the day, the decision to invade and occupy Iraq (for whatever reason) was the wrong one. His “policy” is a failure (just as Neville Chamberlain’s policy of appeasement was a failure. Conservative Bush-backers can play with Obama’s middle name all they like, and they can line up like the see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil monkeys they are (how’s that for looking like Curious George?), but the Commander-in-Chief is a failure. Throw all the political tomatoes you like, but call Bush’s policy what it is - a failure.

Smack, Do you use smack? I need you to define enemies. 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudi Nationals (our ally). I don’t recall any Iraqi terrorist among the remaining two (Atta was Egyptian, and I believe there was a Jordanian). When people like you (and people like Bush) try to compare Iraq to Germany or Hussein to Hitler, you have about as much creedence as Cynthia McKinney and Charlie Sheen, when they try to link Bush to 9/11. At the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter if there were WMDs, or rape chambers, or if Saddam was our “enemy”. Iraq was not a threat to the US, and invading a soverign nation on a whim was the wrong move, period. The CIA (a liberal, cowardly, appeasing agency, if there ever was one) reports that the invasion and occupation of Iraq has de-stablized the region and served as a recruiting and fundraising tool for terrorist. Chamberlain may have been wrong to appease Hitler, but in the end, the Allies won. Five+ years into this mess (longer than our participation in WWII), it remains to be seen if we can/will emerge victorious. For the record, I have voted in every election since 1980 and I have NEVER voted for a Democrat. Succees is success and failure is failure and it is not determined by party affiliation. As I said, throw all the tomatoes you like, but at the end of the day, Bush and Cheney are a couple of “nutless” draft dodgers in my book. Say what you want about Kerry, but he served in Vietnam, while Cheney had “other priorities” and Bush was preserving freedom in Alabama. Smack, Excuse me if I appear to be attempting to construct and ingenious argument, which proves you were wrong all along. You have yet to define (our) enemies, and which nation among them have I “defended”. Where would you like me to move? Let me let you in on a secret, the President has a sworn duty to defend the Constitution. Our current president has not. He hasn’t come close (Patriot Act) Criticizing the President is not akin to “defending our enemies”. Al Qeda and bin Laden are our enemies and they didn’t even exist in Iraq until AFTER we invaded. As I said, if Bush had cajones, he would have chased bin Laden into Pakistan (whatever it takes). Talk about “appeasing” - he’s let bin Laden and Saudi Arabia off the hook more times than Obama has “talked to Iran” (zero).

In addition to the trillion dollar tab Bush has run up in Iraq, the real downside of his foreign policy blunder is; in doing so, he has diverted assets and resources from hunting down and killing bin Laden and the Taliban. Why can’t (people like) you admit that Iraq was NEVER a threat to the US and our boondoggle in Bagdhad has done more harm than good? Do you ever watch baseball? I guy steps to the plate and he either get a hit, or makes an out. Hit = success Out = failure. When you decide to wage war victory/capitualation = success; anything else = failure.
