What will you do with your rebate check?

If you are eligible to receive a tax rebate check this year under the recently passed $168 billion economic stimulus plan, how do you plan to use it?

Pay some bills? Save it? Or what?

With my entire rebate check, I will buy one full gallon of gasoline

What else IS this tax rebate deal but a back door tax giveaway to the big oil monopolies because that’s where this money is going to end up anyway, in big oil’s fat, bulging pockets in some greedy, glutonous oil company’s CEO’s already overstuffed bank account on steroids while the rest of us working stiffs struggle to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table on what would be adequate income during saner and friendlier times for working people.

I intend to put my rebate check money in the cupboard ,along with the rest of the money I’m saving by not going anywhere or doing anything.

We’re going to put our rebate check in the bank for the almost guaranteed harder times to come. Pam

I am going to use it to offset some taxes. The check they are sending me is a fraction of the one I just mailed them.

The federal government is sending each and every one of us a $600 rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart the money will go to China. If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs. If we purchase a computer it will go to India . If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala . If we purchase a good car it will go to Germany or Japan. If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan. None of it will help the American economy. The only way to keep that money here at home is to buy prostitutes and beer, since these are the only products still produced in the US . Thank you for your help.

I plan to put the money in the bank and sit on it. I refuse to hand it right over to the gas companies. Is it a coincidence that gas prices are going up at a higher rate just in time for this “REBATE” check.

I’m going to rip it up and throw that s&&t in the trash.

I hope that you sheep realize that by giving us a $600 check you will be paying $1000 for it in taxes. This isn’t free money and it isn’t a ‘tax break’. Remember everyone gets this check and only 6 out of 10 people pay income taxes. Just another vote buying rip off and I want nothing to do with it.

Rebate check? No rebate check for me. As they say, I have been phased out. And as for those posters who are complaining about gas prices, maybe they should read the AJC article on the breakdown of the cost of a gallon or gas or go to Europe where it is twice as much. My guess though is that the government will step in like they did with these “rebate” checks and come up with another government program that subsidizes the cost of gas for those below a certain income level. Would be nice though if our citizens would support either the building of new refineries or more mass transit as we all know Marta does not really go anywhere.

I’ll use my tax rebate as a payment on my portion of the national debt (plan to send it directly to Dick Cheney which will eliminate a lot of unnecessary steps - taxes to treasury, government payments to arms dealers and the kickbacks he receives).

I owed taxes this year. I’m not entirely sure I’m getting a rebate.

Assuming I do, I’ll probably put it towards a CD — denominated in Euros or Canadian dollars since the US dollar is falling like some bricks.

Since the dollar is losing value by the moment I think saving it is NOT the best idea since it could be worth only half of it’s original value down the road. Buy something gold or have a much needed repair done that you could otherwise not afford. I’m having my 1996 American made car serviced by an American shop: transmission, A/C(I live in AZ)oil change and lube job. This list of “to do’s” should more than use up the money and take care of something I could otherwise not afford.

Since I already have more money than I know what to do with because of my hard work and personal success, I’m going to spend it all in a restaurant on a prime steak and Maine Lobster with a great bottle of wine. I’ll toast to y’all while I’m eating. Toodles.

if you hate big oil so much, go start an oil company and get rich like them. or invent an alternative to oil.

in the end, if you aren’t going to stop being a big oil customer, then shut up and pay for it like the rest of us.

what incentive do they have to lower prices if you keep buying their product?

By manningfan

April 1, 2008 12:17 PM | Link to this

Danny-J: That sounds really good, but exactly how am I going to get the 30 miles to work if I don’t buy gas? The millions on welfare are depending on me.

yeah yeah yeah, danny j, all the rich people earned their money and everyone that is poor did every bit of it to themselves. just how did george w. earn his money? oh that’s right, he was born, that’s it. and manningfan is afraid of the dems, but dems are supposed to be wimps, you’re not afraid of a wimp are you? besides have you looked outside of your window lately? how could it get worse than this current adminstration taking the whole country and bending it over and having it’s way with it? dems are still politicians but definitely aren’t as evil as the people who have done so much to hurt this country in the last 8 years, please get outside of your box. this country needs you and everyone else to right the ship, it’s not about politics!

Has anyone forgotten that both the house and senate are ran by democrats? Quit blaming everyone else for your problems. That is all you lazy, ignorant people ever do. If you want to point fingers, point them at yourself. You idiot democrats can’t even get yourselves a job much less run a country. This congress has the worst approval ratings in the history of the country and none of your are intelligent enough to realize that you voted these idiots into office. You wanted a congress ran by democrats, and you got one. Take some accountability for your own actions, and live with it.

If you think you pay too much in taxes now, imagine what it will be like if Hillary or Barack get elected and have us paying for the up keep of all the lazy dead beats in this country.

Looking forward to getting $600 back that was mine to begin with. I will pay for our summer vacation. Folks, this is money that you overpaid over the years that is coming back to you, so don’t act so brew-ha-ha over it. Pay off a bill that will put you closer to zero debt. They key to life is “not owing the man”. Less debt is financial freedom, less stress and a better life. $600 is not a lot of money, but put it to good use that makes things better for you.

If by lazy dead beats, you are talking about the corporate welfare scammers that take the vast majority of our taxes, then you are making some sense. Otherwise stfu and quit spewing the last thing you heard on Sean Hannity.

We will do what we always do with such funds, invest. We begin such a program with rebates, income tax refunds, and spending less than earned for over thirty-eight years. We retired at ages fifty-six and fifty-four in December of 1998, with our assets growing each year since. Put our children through college, and have no debts. The secret is discipline and realizing you are responsible for your financial well being. We also believe that this stimulus program is another attempt by every politician who proposed the payments or supported the proposal is JUST BUYING VOTES.
