First-class ego, third-class brain
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
House Speaker Glenn Richardson is a loose cannon — a ham-fisted, power-mad bully with no political finesse. From the beginning of the legislative session to the end, Richardson behaved shamefully. I can’t wait to see what he does in the special budget session.
If Republicans in the House have any self-respect, they will replace Richardson as speaker before the next session. Not only has he placed special pleaders and his high-octane ambitions above the interests of average Georgians, but he has also made his Republican colleagues look bad. Surely they won’t stand for that.

Please, please don’t shut him up. He alone with his political brain or lack thereof could resurrect the Democratic Party in Georgia.

It was obvious from the beginning what a clown this jerk was going to be. How did he get this position?
On the first day of the session when he was coronated he stood in the back of the chamber, looking like a little boy uncomfortable in his church clothes. Then there was a pomp(ous)-filled procession to the well. There he gave a tearful speech about how happy he was the Republicans and he were now in power.
Not five minutes later he was castrating the Democrats with a smile on his face and announcing his outrageously un-democratic hawk system.
What a jerk.
But then there’s flippin’ Sonny with his made-for-me tax break, which he lies about being aware of, stealing $100,000 from other taxpayers. His personal fortune has doubled while in office. All this from a guy who made a big show about creating an ethics commission.
What a bunch of crooks. They are much worse than the Democrats ever were.

Cynthia, I think all that plastic surgery has gone and affected your judgement. You are looking more and more like Homey da Clown. I would have compared you to a “white” clown type person, but you would have called me a racist.

… a racist Red Foreman, since you took the opportunity to introduce race about a column written by a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer who happens to be African American. So go bite yourself and then hit the Klan meeting.
I am caucasian and you embarrass me.

Cynthia This column was unnecessary and mean spirited. It appears to be a personal vendetta against the Speaker. Okay, so you don’t agree with his politics, but you made yourself appear just as bad as he is by this column. This was not one of your shining moments. Don’t let the prize go to your head.

While Richardson is mostly trouble, some of his ideas are appropiate. There’s a lot of people that don’t belong in PeachCare, including the preacher that has kids he obviously can’t afford. He needs to pipe down, but compared to Sonny or even Roy Barnes, he’s got some good ideas. Ideas that need implementation.

I am a lifelong Republican and can honestly say Tom Murphy on his worst day was not the mean bully Glenn Richardson is. That and his personal conduct make him a huge liability. He needs to go.

Georgia needs to do like Tennessee did with its bloated TennCare program and tighten requirements and throw the ineligble off the rolls. Richardson is right there. But as for his behavior, he needs to get that in check. He deserves a second chance, but he is blowing it right now.

The people of Georgia put the fox in charge of the henhouse, and not the results are plain to see. Richardson and the ‘Pubs understand their own pocketbooks and their own pork, but don’t understand the running of a state government for the benefit of its people. They understand their own narrow interests, and that’s about it. Dump them all.

I’m not a professional writer, but I remember being taught this basic lesson in an English class. You don’t simply a declare a person to be, for instance “a ham-fisted, power-mad bully with no political finesse”, and expect the reader to accept that conclusion. Instead, in effective writing, you give specific examples of the person’s behavior and actions, and let the reader draw the conclusion. I wish Cynthia Tucker had taken the same class.

There is a whole column that accompanies this blog where specifics are given. I guess you missed it.
It really is stupid for the AJC to set up its reader response tools so differently. If this was set up like Wooten you would have gotten the whole column instead of just the first couple of paragraphs.
That said, her description of Richardson is dead on and I suspect you already knew that.

I had high hopes when the Republicans took over state government. So far, none of them has impressed me. Cagle has surprised me. His off the shelf Rove-like campaign made me think he would be the same as Perdue and Richardson, but he’s actually not too bad.

i don’t agree with Miss Tucker very much but I agree that Rickardson is out of line ins tarting this mini war with Governor Purdue. AS a life long conservatife who supports local taxes and local control , I have no issue with the Governor vetoing a bill that would provide a mere pittance in tax relief but would reduce prsoecutors, hamgstring environmental clean-up, and would take money from adult literacy programs designed to move the working poor into the working middle class. The issues Governor Purdue cited in vetoing the bill are exactly the kind of issues that state and local government should be adressing and as such I applaud Governor Purdue for standing by hi sprinciples and vetoing this bill. Now, if Mr. Richardson will stop showing his backside and display a modicum of humility we can end this legislative session.

Wow, where were you when Tom Murphy pretty much ruled the General Assembly like a dictator? Remember when the highschool athletic classifications were changed so a girl who kept beating his grandchild in the state spelling contest would be moved to another classification and thus give her a chance to win? ( say from AAAA to AAAAA)? I don’t agree with or like Glenn Richardson all that much and as a Republican maybe i agree there is a better Republican choice out there ( no i do not want the democrats to take over the house again and replace him with a democrat) but to act like he is the first speaker to get the big head and to have questionable ethics is just plain stupid.

Cynthia you are truly ignorant! This man, the Speaker,is fighting to give tax money back to the people to whom it belongs. Oh yeah…I forgot - you do not think tax money belongs to the people….you bed-wetter. And, as for the tub of lard we call Governor and the yuck-yuck southern hick that is the Lt. Governor, I hope the people who remember those who are picking their pocket. So what if the tax break is $25 - it is MY $25 dollars!!!

Cynthia…you are a moron! Personally, I am all for a politician willing to give tax money back to the people. I guess that is hard for a bed-wetter like you to understand. As for Porky Perdue….I guess he is too busy hunting and fishing to worry about doing his job. And Casey Cagle…he is just too stupid.

About 2 years ago, I sold a house in Camden County, Ga. for a healthy profit & moved to Kentucky.
Robert Malcom Russell Springs, Ky.I subsequently treated my wife, daughter, son & grandson to 2 days at Six Flags Over Georgia, dropping approximately $1500 on the city economy in those 2 days. The event was marred, because after my daughter was forced off I-75 by Atlanta P.D., due to a suicide attempt they were working, but they declined to post signs showing the detour route to get back on the highway, so she got lost & wandered around Atlanta for 3 hours, trying to find her way. Fortunately, when she contacted me via cell phone, I was able to get the hotel clerk to assist me, using Mapquest to find out where she was & guide her back to the Interstate. After that incident, I wrote a letter to the mayor, complaining & asking that he investigate & take the appropriate action to see that an incident like this didn’t happen again. My letter was never even acknowledged, much less did I receive any response. Later, my son was arrested & thrown in jail by MARTA police, for walking through a Handicapped turnstile. He used a token, & since many other people, none of whom appeared handicapped, were using it, he thought the main turnstile was broken. While he was in the DeKalb County jail, he was treated worse than the Enemy Combatants we hold in Gtmo.
Again, I wrote, again, no response. On Sunday, 22 April, he went to visit his girlfriend at her apartmennt, & parked in an area of Peachtree Street where several other vehicles, including his girlfriend’s, were parked. When he went to get his car so he could go home & study for finals at KSU this week, he found his car had been towed, along with every car (all legally parked) in a 2 block area. Looking for some clue as to why, he found a HANDWRITTEN sign (which he did not see when he parked there, as obviously, neither did anyone else) stating they were going to be doint “Construction” on that area. This small, HANDWRITTEN sign was the only notification that anyone got. When he went to get the release, he was told that since he had owned it less than 30 days (actually, it was very close to 30 days), his registration was not good enough, he needed the Bill of Sale.
He obtained the Bill of Sale & returned a day later, only to be told that since he had now owned it OVER 30 days, he needed plates for it, before he could get it back.
The bottom line is that it took him 3 days to get his car back, cost him $130 plus a day’s work, since he had to take off work the day it was towed. There is no point in my writing to anyone in City Government, because I have determined that no one in City Government cares what I or anyone else thinks. I had planned on a return trip to Six Flags this year, as I want to vist my son, & some other people in Georgia, but after the way my son & I have been treated by the City of Atlanta, & the State of Georgia, I will never drop another dime in that city. If I have to go to Georgia for anything (I can’t imagine that happening, but there’s always the possibility, however slim), I’ll make sure my visit is as short as possible, & I’ll avoid Atlanta like the PLAGUE!!!

Ms. Tucker: Congrats on the Pulitzer, but don’t let it go to your head: The last place the GOP will look for advice in selecting their leadership is behind your desk.

Any chance you can clarify “family planning”? From the context of the article, I assume you don’t mean planning BEFORE you have a family. I know, I know that would be too much to ask for “us” conservatives.
