Selling the King Center
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Would the sale of the King Center to the government compromise the center’s mission? What do you think?

If the King family suddenly became somewhat benevolent, they would donate the King Center to the government, and get their hands out of the cookie jar that is available only because of the tragic death of a “Great Man,” their father.

I do not want any of my tax dollars spent on any King family member’s salary, on any company owned by any family member, or on the Center itself if the family remains in control of the Center.
Dr. King’s life work was and is laudable, but the Center’s record supporting his legacy is not. He and Mrs. King lived moderately during his lifetime. His children are adults. The family has profited by sale of Dr. King’s writings, etc. which is as it should be. However, as a taxpayer, I do not see how they have earned the right to a lifetime annuity from Washington. Their track record of ineffectiveness and misuse of public funds supports the opposite.

Pray what is its mission? To bilk taxpayers and tourists? All the King Center stands for now is for showing the apathy and greed of Dr. King’s children. Even the King kids are wondering how much more of their crap we taxpayers will swallow — thus, an impending sale is being negotiated to take over a place needing massive repairs because of their bilking and neglect! Sure, let the kids flagrantly continue to bilk as many guests as they care to, but please just end this family dominion as saints-of-Atlanta status. It’s bunk. If the family wants to keep it — fine let them pay taxes on the revenues and land as they do in Graceland. Right now, Elvis’ Graceland is in better repair … so much so the Presley family could show the King kids something about upkeep of tombs, buildings, land mission statements and family honor.
We should use this national holiday in honoring ALL Civil Rights campaigners. King was not the only man marching — he was not a deity — and not the only one killed!

The King family may be hapless, but be careful what you wish for. The Fed’s took over management of Pres. Grant’s tomb some years ago and it was almost never heard from again. Only private initiatives have kept it from falling into complete disrepair. Grant’s decedents even threatened to move his body elsewhere at one point. A couple of years ago the National Parks Service allowed a televised rock concert to take place on the site. So much for maintaining the legacy of our national heroes.
P.S. - In case you don’t know who Grant is, if it weren’t for him we’d probably be living in one the Confederate States of America’s greatest cities right now. You can get a book about him at the library (it’s the big building with all the books that you can borrow)

The King family has shown that even blacks can engage in criminal extortion as well as whites. Shame on them.

The mission of the King Center was compromised when the King family forgot what Dr. King stood for. They do not set the same eample that Dr. King set, do not live by his words and the almighty dollar seems to be the only thing the family cares about.
For the almighty dollar, the family will sale the Family Bible? I am surprised we have not seen the plot where he is buried for sale!
