European Union constitution
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Were the Dutch and the French right to reject the European Union constitution in the recent referendums? What do you think?

Yes, Just reading the Charter is mind numbing. Article 1-1 reads like a euro Disney dream park.
“Reflecting the will of the citizens and States of Europe to build a common future, this Constitution establishes the European Union, on which the Member States confer competences to attain objectives they have in common.”
Only one thing missing, they never asked the people what they wanted. 9 of the 10 currently ratifing countries did it through their Parliment and not by a vote of the people. Only Spain had a semi-referendum
We here, believe that the power to govern comes from the people, they state that the State “confer competences” to the EU - just what the heck does that mean?
This is an examble of design by committee. There is something for everyone, and everyone gets nothing. At over 500 pages, it reads like a socilists dream.
Article II-62 says “No one shall be condemned to the death penalty, or executed.” Abortion is still allowed, yet the vilest criminal is spared death.
If this Constitution is finally ratified, welcome National Socialists of Europe, or the Union of Socialist States.

“The Dutch want to reclaim the country they recognized until a few years ago.” How sad. They thought mass Third-World immigration was a cool idea, but now the dysfunction is apparent to everyone—even their “leaders”. Many of the natives want to leave the country, but where can they go? Any lessons here for us?

There are legitimate objections to it, and petty ones. No surprise.
Let’s not forget, our own first constitution (the Articles of Confederation) were a failure too.
