Would you report your children to police?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Last month, six teens were charged with breaking into 150 cars in Alpharetta and Johns Creek. (Read the full story)
The Northview High School juniors and seniors are accused of taking a range of goods from iPods and laptops to purses and golf clubs in a robbing spree that lasted through the Thanksgiving weekend.
They later confessed to Alpharetta police, and Wednesday morning will go before a Fulton County judge.
All six young men — ages 17 and 18, so they’ll be tried as adults — may have gone free, save for the actions of one parent.
This parent, who has asked police to protect her or his identity, saw the stash of pilferred goods from the holiday weekend heist and called the law.
The amount and value of the goods they took amounts to felonies for four of the six students, police said.
As a parent knowing the type of trouble your child could get into for such deeds, would you turn them in to police?

YES, without hesitation. Turn in all six, spend the rest of your life helping them realize IT’S THEIR FAULT, and they can grow past teen-stupidity

You bet! I would consider what would happen if I don’t turn her in. And what type of person she would turn out to be in the long run. This would be the best example I could set for my child.

No way! Blood is blood and this is just a silly teenaged prank. Kids need suppport from their parents and mine would never be able to trust me if I betrayed him to the cops.
I would teach my teen a lesson by going with him to the pawn shop, making him hock all of his stolen goods, and making him give half of the profits to a charity. Plus, no Wii for a week. That’s what I did when he stole from the church offering box and he hasn’t done it since.

Most definitely! I will not be an “enabler”. Ignoring the incident or refusing to report it would send the wrong message to these young men.

I hate to say that they need to taught a lesson. If you go around stealing from other people you need to be punish. Now,you would say that about someone else’s child, since it is your child you, you want to protect them like they are angels. I am sorry they would have to pay the price,if they are doing wrong.

Hey Kyle’s mom instead of hocking the stuff how about trying to return it to it’s rightful owner - your kid steals from the church and he loses his video game privileges for a week!!?? - what are your plans for the profits you dont plan to give to charity? and how about this victim who decided that she doesn’t want to press charges becuz the kids ‘have been punished enuf’ - folks if you dont discipline your children the penal system will

PawnShopOwner, First, I think you’d be please for me to go to your shop and help you continue your practice of profiting from theft. The reason I wouldn’t return it to the “rightful owner” is that the insurance companies have already reimbursed them and they should not get double recovery. So, we would donate half to charity, and I would keep the rest towards gas money for taking him to the pawn shop. I sure am glad you aren’t raising my kids. I cannot imagine how atrocious their spelling and grammar would be.

Don’t feel sorry for my child. At least he doesn’t have to live in the cultural wasteland of Cumming. There would be nothing of value for him to steal there anyway.

Hey KylesHotMom….you and junior could have adjoining cels , because you would be an accessory to his crime, second offense, and if I had not been able to gnaw my arm off and escape and you were my wife, I’d drop a dime on both of you…blood is blood…double recovery ….you’re priceless. And how did the church get reimbursed when little Ricky Bobby stole from the church and you made him give half the profits to charity. Something doesn’t sound right here…what charity did he donate to?
And God of War, if they had been black, they would have know where to sell the loot that night and would have burned through the money already

Why are we always ready to let the rich and famous off, with a slap on the hand, while others are thrown in jail, without the bail, or a rich parent to pay the judge to let them off. Send these rich thugs to Iraq, and if they survive they should received clean records. As the saying goes, if they can’t do the time, they should not commit the crime, and green should not dictate their sentence. I worked in the justice system and cases like these happen regular but due to paid judges, and who has connections, it dictates the sentences, it has nothing to do with justice.

i would definetly turn them in. protecting your child from due punishment will not help the child in the long run. if you something illegal you have to pay for it.parents, stop believing every thing you kids tell you. didn’t you lie to your parents when you were a kid? they need to know right from wrong and accept adequet punishment for their wrong doings. no child is perfect. you should have learned that before now.

kyles mom, stealing is not a silly childhood prank. it is still stealing. punish your kids correctly (no video game for a week-lame punishment). these children will continue to cause trouble if you do not crack down on them now. sell the stuff? what are you crazy? making a profit from stealing? your kyle and others like him should be in jail. next it will be homes, not cars. i’ve been burgled twice by teens and lost alot of valuable belonging. do you think maybe their mother let them get off easy for robbing cars. WAKE UP KYLES MOTHER, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM HERE!

Kyle’s mom must have made that story up to get a reaction, unless of course she keeps a lawyer on retainer and has Jr.’s college fund liquid for bail.

so, all of you parents are saying that you would jeopardize your children’s opportunity to attend college and limit their earnings and job potential with a felony record?
