Pope High School has amazing spirit, even in the lean, non-winning years we have tailgate parties, after the game parties, middle of the game parties (this is the families and parents I am talking about). There is a live greyhound (mascot) that comes to every game and is on the sidelines. There are the kids who love to come painted in blue and white and run up and down the track with the school flag. There are families who give so much of themselves to make the program work. It is amazing. And we are a caring compassionate bunch, besides the school spirit; the piece y’all did on Matt as he battled cancer that then took him, gave the Pope family the chance to bring in dinner every night, keep their yard trimmed, and many other chores that had to go undone all the time they were away. And again when one young man new to the team lost first his mother and then his grandmother in a short time period and he and his brothers had to step up to take care of the family, the Pope family took care of them for months until things got stablized.
We got spirit and we got heart!!! Does not get any better than that!
One of these days we will get a winning coach too!

My grandson is a “freshman” at Pope. He loves it. I’m glad to hear that his new school has “spirit.” I think that being proud of your school and showing it is important for everyone at a school from the Principal down to the freshmen.

I don’t even live there, but I know that GWINNETT County as a whole is the mother of all school spirit. They treat football like it’s college ball. Every game is packed and have sponsors galore!!

Get a life Pope. Wheeler has clearly the most school spirit in Cobb County. You have the most attitude problems a school in Cobb County has ever had. You inherited the problem from Walton who was the king of the attitude problems. Your kids cannot win a spirit battle with Wheeler even on a bad day for them.

Fosterjoiner, your jealousy is transparent. Pope is in a much better are, no apartments or low income housing feeding into it, and the kids at Pope actually graduate and go on to college. Unless you’re in the Science & math program at Wheeler, you’ll be serving fries to Pope kids in the future.

Fact:
Aside from some very notable exceptions, the majority of highschool students live out the rest of their lives unaffected by school sports or “school spirit”. With this in mind I submit that there is no reason to have arguments over these things, nor to talk down to others for rooting for the wrong school.

Did anyone read about the student up in Ohio who got the opposing team’s fans to hold up the signs that spelled out “We Suck”?
Before the game, this student handed out different colored cardboard posters to fans in three sections of bleachers. At the beginning of the third quarter, the fans were instructed to hold the peices of cardboard up. They thought that they were spelling out “Go Darby” (or something like that). In reality, they spelled out “We Suck”.
On Youtube, search Hilliard football prank. It’s hilarious.
BTW, the student along with his accomplices got 3 days ISS.
That’s the problem with today’s schools. They inhibit ingenuity and free thinking.

Lee, inhibiting ingenuity and free thinking is never a problem! Students should be encouraged to express their beliefs and opinions. anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot.
