Sandy Springs’ Northwood Drive: On The Right Track?

The City of Sandy Springs has been trying to clean things up along Roswell Road, bit by bit.

One area that seems to be scrubbed the hardest: Northwood Drive. Just south of I-285, the street is part of a conglomerate of older apartments —- some sprinkled with gang graffiti, others in need of repair. Solidarity Mission Village serves the residents with a church, a preschool, a bank branch and some stores.

The city has performed numerous code enforcement sweeps on the apartments in the area and police cruisers can be spotted regularly, signifying an increased presence.

Still, late Monday night, 40-year-old Rey Eras Morales was shot in the head and killed in a parking lot shared by the Sierra Creek Apartments, on Kingsport Drive, and the Prado North Condominiums, on Northwood Drive. And, in September, two men were shot and one died after an ongoing feud turned deadly at a children’s birthday party at neighboring Lake Placid Apartments.

NorthSide.Talk wants to know: if you live, or work, in this area, is Sandy Springs on the right track?

On the right track? NOT EVEN CLOSE. The area needs serious attention quick, fast, and in a hurry. The whole “clean up” thing is really a joke at this point. The area has really become a haven of disgust, and filth. We used to enjoy living “so close” to everything; getting out of Sandy Springs could not come soon enough for us. The police are at many of the apartment complexes several times a day. Some of the neighborhoods have rapidly become less desirable. Who cares about the strip clubs and “toy” stores- drug sales are on the rise all along Roswell Road- but, again that can be anywhere, just having lived in the area for so long and seen so much, you can’t help but see the downward spiral, and it is spinning out of control at tremendous speed, that action MUST happen SOONER than later. The Kroger at Northridge is nasty; why? Because of the people inside and out. It’s nothing but a huge convenice store. The whole strip if you will, of Sandy Springs, is out of control- at this point who knows what can be done. At this time though, nothing good has come of “The City of Sandy Springs”- where is the mayor now? Where is the city council? The police are visable, but they can’t be everywhere all the time. Hopefully someone can figure out what is needed before Sandy Springs goes deeper in to the abyss of trouble and sorrow.

WOW! Well stated. Could not have said it better myself. Some people think its a race thing. I don’t! I’m African-American and can’t wait until my lease is up and can get FAR AWAY from Sandy Springs. My girlfriend can’t even go eat at her favorite place because its in a drop trap- you know, where the old Babies R Us used to be. Its a joke anymore. CLEAN it up? Well past that; figure out a better plan because the one implemented is NOT working!

Thanks to the city of Sandy Springs newly formed government, it is becoming less desirable to live in by the day. They ticket you for not covering your mouth when you sneeze……..For Republicans they they sure do not stick to their guns on committments. What a joke. I’m from Rome and would never want to live there again. I might sue them if they do not stop their qouta system on certain issues…………

Sandy Spirngs is becoming a serious drug mecca and a fovrite of the less than desirable neighbor. It is not safe to even be outside in my complex anymore. Who do you blame? THe complex for renting to low life scum of the earth or Sandy Springs?
