Stop paying attention to Imus
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
No, Don Imus shouldn’t be fired. Yes, he has an inalienable right to say as many wrong-headed, bigoted and ridiculous things as he wishes on the airways.
And, yes, all of this is getting too much attention.
Way too much.
Haven’t I said all of this before slightly more than a year ago?
Actually, I have, and it was back when that other Imus “controversy” involved the famous shock jock using a derogatory term in regard to African-American members of the Rutgers women’s basketball team during his former national radio show. Just like that, he was fired after much screaming from everywhere.
This time, Imus is causing public howling after his Adam “Pacman” Jones comments on Monday during his current radio show in New York. After Imus’ on-air partner mentioned some of the issues involving Jones as the NFL’s poster child for trouble, Imus asked, “What color is he?” When his partner replied, “African-American,” Imus replied, “Well, there you go.”
So here we go again. While many say Imus’ remarks were racist and want Imus fired again, Imus says he was defending Jones with what he claimed was a reference to the evils of racial profiling.
Whatever. Who cares what Imus meant or really meant? If you don’t like Imus or anybody else on the airways for that matter, just use your clicker. Otherwise, you’re giving the Imuses of the world exactly what they want - attention.
And higher ratings.

FIrst I must say that I don’t agree with anything that came out of Imus’ mouth. However This wouldn’t be an issue if it had been Sharpton, JAckson, OR any other rights activist. With that said, Terrence grow up and move on with this poor poor Pacman crap. He knows that he is in the spotlight so he should also know to behave.

In other news, apparently Don Imus still seems to have a radio show.
The only interesting thing is that someone actually heard him say this, or was it in a press release he sent out to say he said this.
How he makes a living when there are no listeners to his irrelevant chatter is beyond me. Some advertisers enjoy throwing money down a rathole.

As an African-American I don’t see a thing wrong with what Don Imus said this time. He was absolutely correct in his statement. What he was saying has been said by many African-Americans including myself and that is that often the media showcases African-Americans. I agree with him and I don’t feel he deserves all this backlash for speaking the truth. Afterall he has a right to his freedom of speech.

Honestly speaking… Don Imus does not matter at all. He himself cannot change anything in this world. He is a wasted body for all I care. Secondly Sharpton & Jackson shouldn’t even waste time and brain power on this matter. We need to come together and see how we are going to make sure Senator Barack Obama get into the White House…or Educate more of our people to walk the walk of Faith and Power that Senator Obama stands for. C’mon people wake up. Don Imus does not have a HEAVEN OR HELL to put anybody in so what he says does not matter…..Next Topic please.

I think the scariest thing in all of this is that PacMan said he would pray for Imus. Now that has got to be a sign of the apocalypse. Imus is a moron especially for his defense saying that PacMan was unfairly arrested 6 times. PacMan should be in jail for his actions in Vegas for several years. I hope that strip club manager wins all of Jones money (if he still has any) for rendering him paralayzed because of being shot by one of PacMan’s thug associates. Imus, Al Sharpton and PacMan Jones should all disappear forever. It would be a great day for the human race if that happened.

I think with the recent passing of George Carlin, we need to take to heart the emphasis he placed on words and quit being so freakin’ sensitive.

Funny how reporters only give a half story. I don’t know if Mr. Moore is trying to intice hate from black people or not, but Imus was actually defending black people for a change.
If you would have heard the whole thing, Imus’ reply was “well, there you go.”
Wait, i just typed the same thing. Only, I’m going to explain the comment. When you read Mr. Moore’s article above, your left feeling like Imus says “well, there you go-(another black man committing crimes).
Actually, what he explains IMMEDIATELY after his comment (which was left out by Mr. Moore)is this:
Well, there you go- (cops are picking on blacks for no reason)
Don Imus’ remarks were right on. The only people making issues about this are the blacks who aren’t intellectual enough to know the truth, compared to articles written by this Mr. Moore guy.
And in no way do i like Don Imus, but i won’t stand idly by to watch a white man lose his job again for voicing his opinion again about something he has a right to say-especially when blacks call each other nappy headed ho’s and *iggas (sp.??)

Anyone you thinks Imus’ comments were racist did not hear the entire conversation. But since he has a “history” of being racist, he is targeted more. Unfortunately, this will never end because the way society works. The more shocking the program, the more people will listen. It’s a shame that this controversy is going to give people a little more respect and sympathy for Pacman.

I agree 100% T-Moore. Imus can say what he wants. African Americans like myself need to take the sticks and stones approach to it all. Adam Jones said something that would make you believe he is maturing when in his statement he said, “it is obvious that Imus have a problem with African Americans, I am upset, but I will pray for him”. You see Adam Jones let it go and so should the rest of us. What we African Americans need to do is stop listening to Jessie and Al and stop taking that I am a victim attitude. And listen to what Bill Cosby has been saying about raising our kids the right way. And, about us being positive influences in the community and portraying positive images. If many of us did not walk around looking like asses maybe we would not be thought of as being asses by the other races. I know, look at the individual, but lets keep it real. Our popular culture has us African Americans looking like idiots and I am not blaming Hollywood. We can only blame ourselves. Since this is a sports blog. I want to make an important point. Who’s fault is it that there are not many African American baseball players in the Major leagues. It is ours. We do not encourage our kids to play that sport, we encourage them to play football and basketball, the sports we love to watch because we say baseball is boring. Then we listen to that nonsense by Al and Jessie and want to boycott the MLB. MLB does not have a responsibility to invest in the inner city that is nonsense. We should invest in our own kids. Imus has an audience that he speaks to. He knows what he is doing. Thats on him and his audience. I have watched his show a few times when he came on in the early mornings just before the financial shows. He is what he is. He will not get fired. His advertisers will not abandon him. His audience agrees with him and thats the target group for the advertisers. Thats the game. The colors black and white and brown actually has nothing to do with this so called racist point of view only MONEY GREEN.
P.S. Adam Jones should have been arrested 6 times, he was out doing dirt. So, Imus if you are gonna make a lame excuse for what you said, use another one.

When Imus called the basketball team NHHs he never singled out the black chicks — you did. And the screaming didn’t come from everywhere — it came from that bigoted hustler Al Sharpton preying on his ignorant, victim-mentality-minded followers. Without them he is nothing.

Sadia Morrison, 26, had recently organized a celebrity PlayStation tournament set for Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club to raise funds for at-risk youth. Morrison was with Pacman at a strip club on the night when he “made it rain” and caused a disturbance when dancers and club goers scuffled over the cash he reportedly tossed into the air. Morrison was arrested for her part in the episode and sentenced to probation. Police are investigating her death.

Seriously, if Imus were based in Dallas or Cleveland (or Atlanta), would anyone give him the time of day? He’s a cranky old whackjob who just happens have a microphone in front of him, and just happens to be in Gotham where folks think the sun shines out of their buttcracks. I’ve visited NYC and think it’s great, but the world doesn’t revolve around it (like the media there getting upset that the Mets fired their skipper at 3 in the morning local time. Never mind they were on the West Coast at the time and three hours earlier; to New Yawkers, there’s only one time zone that counts). Anyway, I digress. Like Terry says, let the moron have his forum to say whatever he wants and those of us in Flyover Land can just ignore him. I dont have a problem with what Imus said…what i have a problem with is the LAME excuse he gave to try and get the NAACP off his back!
Stand up for your believes Imus!
I mean common, when a college or pro football player gets in trouble…. 90% of the time hes what? black? thats right…im not politically correct…hes BLACK!
Just look at all the problems Saban has had with his new recruits and players….who happen to be what? black!
Its not a racial thing, its a cultural thing.
I know inner city blacks better than most blacks in the suburbs do! Considering i worked almost every apt complex in Atlanta, from Bankhead courts to Clevland Ave to Metropolitian, from Decatur to Clayton doing cable work. (Hey i was addicted to the money…and the rush of the dangerous environment)
Ive been in ALOT of crazy situations. Walking around south and west and east atlanta after dark going thru apt complexes isnt something u wanna do. Especially when your white, alone, and pickup up money for workorders. I knew the area best bt 99-2005 or so…before alot of the major projects were tore down.
So believe me when i say theres something VERY MESSED UP with black culture and values!
Ive survived armed robberies by crackheads in bankhead courts, attempts to be set up by gangs in south and west atlanta, and once outsmarted 2 carjackers on the run for murder from Louisiana. And the latest crazy thing to happen was i walked in on a gasstation Robbery and had a AK pointed at my head.
You know what they ALL had in common!?? They were ALL BLACK!
But i guess i should bs up a story and add a mexican or white male in there just so i cant be called a racist for saying the truth!
Ok…forreal…once in mexican gang territory in north atlanta (buford hwy) i thought i was gonna have a problem with some mexicans in a apt complex after dark, but i “accidently” flashed my pistol and they went the other way.
Did that make u people screaming “racism” feel better?
For the record….i give props to anyone trying to better themselves or their families…regardless of race.

It amazes me that we live in a society where a man like Don Imus is publicly crucified, twice now, for being a racist, when he hasn’t yet said anything racist. The “nappy headed ho” comment was his attempt at irony in using urban vernacular. He is a dumb old white guy, not a racist. Now, when he makes any reference to race at all, it is racist, regardless of context or connotation. We live in a sick, sick society. It is like Orwellian Farrakhanism.
The good news is that when Barry O gets elected, blacks will have to start admitting to themselves that it isn’t skin color alone that is keeping them down in society. How can a country who is about to elect a black man as its leader be called a racist society? I predict that accountability, responsibility, and a good attitude will take the places of excuses, victimization and the blame game in the years following Obama’s victory. Sorry Al and Jesse, but your careers are over come this November. Hopefully in that utopian future, we won’t have to have our collective IQs diminished by hearing about Imus’ “racism”.

I see all of these comments from ” African Americans “. This is a classification that I do not understand and that I believe is not right. Either you are American or African. Where were you born? In The United States of America or Africa? This is a term that is dividing Americans. If you need to class yourselves with a color, then why not black American or white American? There is no such thing as an African American. Either you are American or African. Choose one. Quit trying to seperate us even further.

The real truth here is it’s not what is said but who says it. Some people say racially insensitive things all the time and they get a pass. But a few people, e.g., mostly white entertainers, white republican politicians and white media people, get blasted and their words are made out to be racist. We will never be able to have a serious dialog in this country about race until thin skinned, chip on their shoulder race baiters stop looking for targets and for any excuse to cry foul, even when no foul was intended or even committed. I think that most people are so tired of all of this overly dramatized racial crap that we are in fact avoiding the opportunity to grow in the depth of human relations. It’s just so not worth it. ATTENTION MEDIA AND RACE MONGERS: If you are truly as liberal and as caring as you claim to be, when ever someone says something that is being interpreted by some as racist, just ask them what they meant by their remarks and believe them when they explain. Then let it go. Oh, but that gets into another one of our prejudices in this country, who we chose to believe and who we don’t.

I watched the “old” Imus show before he knuckled under to the racially/politically correct crowd; However, the new show is more controlled, less spontaneous. It is much less informative. They muzzled Bernie.Too bad. I no longer watch.

The problem is that the public outcry is over one sentence, when the public, for the majority, didn’t listen to Imus’s entire rant. He was defending Pacman and saying that he was being wrongly accused based on him being black. Terrence Moore shouldn’t be read any more either if that is the case, as he’s written bigoted things on here as well. I believe I remember something about the Braves not having a black man on the roster not too long ago. Pot, meet the Kettle.

Nice censorship on this site, by the way.
Imus should hate all black racists and race baiters by now. His comments were pro-black—not anti-black—but the truth doesn’t matter to racists does it? He was saying “Well there you go. He was unfairly arrested because he was black.” He was emphathizing, without reason I believe, with the black community. Sometimes the black community gets what it deserves. Not the first time a white person was criticized unfairly for empathizing with black though. Just ask Bill O’Reilly and Geraldine Ferraro. Race baiters need to disappear.

I’m 47 now and having grown up in the 1970’s and we never heard about racisa, I also lived in Conyers through the 1980’s and still didn’t hear this. What has happened is the black leaders such as THE REVEREND JESSIE,HA! saw an unused advantage in racisa and like Al gore who found a cash machine in the hoax of global warming Jessie found a cash cow in racisa. Now I know their are changes happening to our planet but we can do nothing about it, just like man is born to die this planet was born to die,bow the knee to the Lord while there is still time!

His points are valid, but the context is hilarious.
Gee shucks, if we’d all only listened to Terence a year ago, we wouldn’t be in this mess. Seriously? Is Moore really that out of touch with his reputation in this city (and nationally)? I feel bad for the guy.
I really can’t think of a less respected sports writer. Every article is followed by unanimous declarations of how clueless he is. Even the hometown sports radio stations consistently berate him. He’s like the Larry Langford (Mayor of Birmingham, thinks Bham will get the 2020 Olympics) of sports journalism.

You’re making a huge assumption that Sharpton and Jackson actually have brain power. We all know Jackson doesn’t but the jury is still out on Sharpton.

It’s simple; if we don’t listen to Imus, why should we read Terence Moore. You write controversial items in your online column, so what makes you special. I’m sorry did I cross the line? I guess that anyone that questions any liberal about there ideas is a racist or redneck or just plain stupid. I don’t like Imus, and I don’t like those that think their stupid ideas are superior to his.

Have you even heard the entire audio? Not just the 30 second clip the statement heard round the world. He really was sticking up for Pacman Jones. But, he’s white, so it must have been a racist statement. And why is it that every black comic can get away with making fun of white people all the time. But when the tables are turned, man it get’s ugly…

They like the publicity, too.

in a time like this we need to focus on our troops over in Iraq getting blow up everyday instead of what Imus said he only saying what most white people think about blacks anyway, some blacks put themselves in position to be talked about in a negative way. Both race need to wake up and stop all the BS, life is life we should be enjoying every moment of it, why worry about some dried up old man comment, it the 2008 people if you can’t smell the coffee by now just go to Iraq or one those war torn country where color doesn’t matter as long as you represent the USA.

You are right, Terence. Imus is irrelevant. But as a fellow journalist and African-American, I sympathize with you for having to put up with all the rednecks from Hapeville, Snellville and Newnan every time you post something. Racism is so illogical. If the Rev. Jeremian Wright had said the same thing under the same circumstances and same context as Imus had, all these people would be screaming bloody murder and dragging down Sen. Obama in the process. They refuse to see things as they are unless if fits into their ideological narrative. Keep ya head up — a’change gone come!

There will always be bigots, racist and sexist minded folks. Knowing who they are, what they believe etc. is important for the safety of us all. LOL. I am SURE he is not the only person who believes this way, in order to have a show he MUST have a following. I look at him like he is a Social Science project the same way I do a lot of folks on talk radio shows. When I get upset about what is said I remember the Desiderata and mosey on. “… and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story” sigh He so very obviously needs an audience to listen, doesn’t he?
