Storage Solutions?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The trouble with moving on up to a more spacious abode is you convince yourself that you have more space to store things.
In reality, of course, storage space is the one thing that always seems to be in short supply.
I agonize over where to put everything from cleaning supplies to spices to winter clothes.
Currently, I have cleaning supplies tossed under the kitchen sink and the vacuum cleaner, broom and mop shoved in the hall closet and (this is really bad) the HVAC room.
I should find a way to organize the cabinet cluttered with spices to make the task of cooking less time consuming.
My winter clothes are stashed in bins in the back of my closet, as well as in the closet of the second bedroom, which also serves as a linen closet.
Clearly, I need to come up with a better system.
What has been your biggest storage challenge?
Which products or storage systems have helped you sort your stuff and keep it organized?

I finally admitted defeat in my fight to find adequate storage. During my surrender, I decided that I would live within my space. If you have more stuff than reasonable space in which to store it, stop buying stuff, save your $$$ and buy a bigger home in which you can store more stuff.

There’s this funny looking truck that comes by my house every Wednesday at about 9 AM.That truck has solved my storage problems. There are other rules.

Clyde Never ever??? Hmm, with all that it sounds you have, might be time to throw a yard sale yourself! Shameless self-promotion, but I wrote a story this year with some tips. And, um, let us know when we should show up.

The best organizing item I have is the roll out shelves I installed in my kitchen cabinets. It makes the entire cabinet useful since you can access items at the back without digging through all the stuff in the front.
Another tip is to get the boosters that go under each leg of the bed, raising it about 4 inches. This allows you to use that area as storage. I keep all my wrapping supplies - bags, paper, boxes, tape etc. - under the guest room bed and everyone knows where to go when they need to wrap a gift.

Katie and Nedra host some of the most boring blog topics ever. At the very least their picture could show them making out with each other.

Some ideas for finding more storage areas: besides the one already mentioned of extending the space under the beds, you can create storage by making “tables” with wooden boxes or barrels cut a round or square top cover with table clothe to the floor. Add shelving over the tops of doors or around the room that last foot from the ceiling. Add shelves in the garage, use the upper space in the garage. There are now shelves that are made specifically for the upper space in the garage.
But keep in mind that the number one most useful tool to use is getting rid of stuff. If you find that hard, do what I did: I rented a large trash bin, invited my adult kids over for a trash party, I left and came home to a near perfect garage. Well organized with what they kept. I had marked a few do not touch, other than that, they had free reign. Did they get rid of stuff I wouldn’t have? You bet! Have I needed any of it? NO!!! That was 3 years ago. With adult kids storing stuff down there now, it is time for another one!!!!!
