Wicker Furniture Indoors?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I’m not sure why, but I’ve always been one of those people who thinks wicker furniture belongs outdoors.

I vaguely remember a small white wicker table in the basement of my parents’ house, but other than that, wicker furniture was something reserved for the porch or the backyard.
Still, Domino Magazine recently proclaimed indoor wicker chic (Sept. issue, Pg 48).
I wasn’t convinced until I flipped a few more pages and saw a lovely vanity (yes, I’m still craving a vanity set) from Maine Cottage (table $1480, chinoiserie toile seat, $490).
I’m not so sure about the color, but I do like the style.
Would you put wicker furniture indoors? What pieces have you found that work?

of course, it fits in the double wides door much easier, as i can bend it a little, and if something snaps in the process, i just break out the toothpaste an twine to fixit!!!

Since I wouldn’t even put wicker furniture OUTDOORS at my home I suppose it would never be inside either. Hate hate hate wicker.

Anyone who hates wicker is either 350 pounds or has a problem with style. I love wicker (the real thing, not the plastic crap). I have redone my guest bedroom in a beach cottage style and have used white wicker quite successfully. And I got the idea from a high-style magazine.
Lighten up, folks. It’s only decorating. Sheesh.

I wonder if they make water beds out of wicker?

Good wicker furniture can be expensive. I found two lovely wicker & rattan chairs at Frontgate (internet), they were half price because of season’s end. They are in a small “room” with french doors that lead out to my patio. I love the British Colonial look - very classic, yet casual. Real wicker won’t last outdoors. Even on a covered porch, real wicker requires periodic cleaning and protection against the elements.

Wicker might be fine for a porch, if you really like that sort of thing. If I saw a “high Style” mag decorating a room with “treasures” they picked up curbside it still would not be high style. Don’t kid yourself!

You all are missing the point! Rattan and wicker furniture sets a very casual tropical mood whether used indoors or out. Remember visiting that beach resort in the islands? That’s the stuff they use there. It’s durable, comfortable and very tolerant to huidity. The plastic stuff you refer to is designed with UV stability to withstand direct rain and sun. There is surely a need for that. You just have to be sure you’re getting the good stuff with a solid aluminum frame inside that won’t rust. Anyway, some of my favorite places in the world are furnished with wicker and rattan furniture…. and why wouldn’t I want part of my home to reflect the same relaxed feel?
