Crate & Barrel Perimeter Mall location closing

I just received an e-mail alert that the Crate & Barrel store at Perimeter Mall is closing this Sunday. This location sells mostly housewares, unlike the Lenox and North Point Village homestores, which sell furniture in addition to the cookware/dinner/everything offerings.

I gave Perimeter a quick call; the few furniture pieces they have (such as the Dylan barstools) are being sold as floor samples, and cookware/dinnerware is now 25 percent off.

Darn, that’s the closest C&B to me. Why are they closing? Lack of business?? I think we’ll be making a drive to Perimeter tonight!

Thanks for the heads-up, Katie!

Hi Melissa, I’m awaiting official word, but my understanding it has to do with a desire for all C&B stores to be “homestores,” i.e. carry furniture, like the Lenox location.

Well, this closing has given me the nudge I need to go buy a new pepper and salt mill (HOPE they have some) and other kitchen gadgets. I bought a Microplane zester there not too long ago and I LOVE it! I’m also hoping to pick up some nicer paper plates for my 40th this month! EEK!

I spoke with Crate & Barrel spokeswoman Bette Kahn, who confirmed that C&B is moving toward all homestores (read: furniture and kitchen goods) and away from malls when possible. Apparently the company’s lease was up at Perimeter Mall, prompting the closing. C&B has no plans to open another third Atlanta location, she said.

The store inventory is extremely depleted, as you would expect. I did find my paper plates and napkins that I wanted, but none of the other stuff on my list. There are a few different coffee machines available, knives, pot racks, cook books, glass wear, picture frames, other miscellaneous gadgets and a few furniture pieces.
