Tuesday’s game looms large

During this time of the season when seven of the eight teams in the Eastern Conference have clicnched playoff spots, every game for the Hawks is huge.

With the win against the Sixers in Philly and the magic number reducded by one, the game against the Pacers on Tuesday looms large.

The Hawks entered the game with a three-game lead over Indiana for the eighth spot. “We control our own destiny,” coach Mike Woodson told AP.

Pacers play Sunday against the Bucks and then take on the Hawks on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game is huge, people. It’s huge.

We’re essentially 3 games back of Philly and Toronto. Toronto’s only two games ahead, but has tiebreaker over us. With five games left, I don’t see us catching either, especially considering we do not play either any more.

Philly’s schedule: Detroit, Indiana, @ Washington, Cleveland, @ Charlotte

Toronto’s schedule: Milwaukee, New Jersey, @ Detroit, Miami, @ Chicago

Atlanta’s schedule: @ Indiana, @ New York, Boston, Orlando, @ Miami. Three road games and two home games against elite competition.

I’d be content with Atlanta winning at least one of these games and finally securing a playoff berth.

The playoffs start now. We cant afford to back into the playoffs. We must win,win win! Is Bibby injured ? Just a thought. I hope not. Anyway he is better injured than most players in the league.

Obliviated? That kind of writing makes us all look stupid. (hint: it’s “obliterated”). Oh, and FIRST!!!

It will be tough to beat Indiana on their home court with them trying to catch us for the playoff berth. We can do it. We should be able to beat Miami and New York. It will be interesting to see how we play against Boston as a probable prelude to the playoffs. We seem to match up fairly well against Orlando, even though they are a first-place team. I know everybody will have the Celtics as heavy favorites versus the Hawks if we make the playoffs, but I hope the Hawks play with intensity. The games are won on the court still and not on paper. They have nothing to lose, in a sense, so they might as well have fun—fun with intensity.

It would of course be great to see the Hawks in the playoffs. I’ve been a fan since the early-80s and it has been a long, dry spell, but it’s pretty hard to get really pumped up when they are below .500 and only getting a shot at it because no one else is good enough. At the start of the year I thought they’d for sure be at 45 wins by now. It would be great if they could upset the Celtics, but I can’t see that happening, and just like every summer, I’ll be saying, “Next year.”

Let’s not hold a coronation ceremony for the Celtics just yet. When the Hawks play them in the first round, remember that they have little more winning playoff experience than the Hawks. Starting from Doc Rivers as a coach on down to KG and his first round exits, then Pierce and Allen…not exactly the Pistons or Spurs that we’d be facing. They have been great in the regular season, butthe regular season is just the regular season. Now, the Hawks have some deficiencies that will be our undoing, and we also lack a lot of winning playoff experience (except Woodson and Bibby, but we have 6 or 7 good athletic parts that can hang with anybody - including the Celts. So we ought to be able to compete - especially if we decide to consciously post up Al down low more. Expect the Celts in 6.

The Hawks will soon begin getting the recognition that they deserve. The Hawks have been quietly developing themselves into a powerhouse team, but because they have such a pitiful record and the fact that they acquired Mike Bibby (the difference maker) so late in the season, the rest of the NBA doesnt know what will bring on the inevitable as the Hawks begin their quest to reign as champions of the basketball world. The Hawks will have one major test and that will be to get past the first round and eliminate juggernaut Boston. Once you get past Boston, you have eliminated your most difficult competition so then nothing should be standing in the way of the Hawks bringing home the Larry O’Brien trophy. Just get bast beantown (Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce) and the championship will be yours.

Gumby: Are you delirious? Are you saying that you think the Hawks have the best talent in the NBA, which would mean Mike Woodsen is the best coach in the league, likewise Billy Hunter is the best GM in the league. Are you on crack? The Hawks couldnt beat the Celtics if the Celtics were all playing blindfolded. Gumby, you are a complete idiot, a moron and a fool to say the least!

I also think the Hawks can give the Celtics a better series than most believe. Also SilverShadow, Billy Knight is the Hawks GM. I would get my facts straight before calling other people idiots and morons.

I have watched this team since the day i was born. I remember in 95 we won 13 in a row by beating the powerhouse rockets who had won like 14 in a row. we had the best record in nba at the break and nique gets traded. Even though we made it to the playoffs on up till 99 we never really stood a chance. after watching this team rebuild and grow. I see them peaking at just the right time to shock the celtics in the playoffs.10 out of the last 13 is tremendous for any team. The guys proved to me they were ready by going to philly and taking a win.

I also believe the hawks can and will stun the celtics. 1 because I’ve been a hawks fan all my life and it depends on what hawks team shows up. We know jj is gone do jj but if marvin and mike along with chills can keep playing at the level they’ve been playing, they can be hard to deal with. GO HAWKS!!!!
