What is Woodson’s next move?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
You read it on ajc.com. You heard about it as other fans discussed it.
You know that Billy Knight wants Woodson out while “ownership” backs the coach up.
You watch the games. You know that Woodson plays Joe Johnson every single minute of every game. He does the same with Josh Smith.
So where does the Hawks coach go from here? Does he coach the same as he has since he’s been in Atlanta? Does he change his strategy? If so, does he do it ‘cause he’s trying to make the playoffs or because he has something to prove to his boss?
What about ZaZa? Salim? Solomon Jones? Mario West? Is there playing time gonna increase? Or is Woodson gonna stick with a six or seven player rotation?
Whatever happens, it’ll be interesting.
I’d hate to be in Woodson’s position.

I really went into this season expecting to see some growth from Woodson. I thought he did a good job demanding development from players, but a horrible job at letting players play.
I thought he was really going to go into his bench and the way i see it is that Billy Knight has really tried to adjust the team to work for Mike
our team is not perfect, but Woodson is holding this team back.
So no he is not going to change.

The team has the genesis of a working nucleus for the future. PLEASE remove Billy & Woody as soon as possible, and get some new voices for these guys to listen to. While I feel compassion for Woody, he just can’t take this group any further. As far, as Billy, well….even a blind hog…..

I’ve lost all respect for the Geron’s for forcing everyone in the Hawks organization to endure this anti-climatic drama.
If it were not for Geron Sr., there would not be an NBA franchise in Atlanta, with all due respect. But, Jr. does not appear to be from the same mold.
If he brings the sensational/all-about-me Larry Brown to the Hawks, in any capacity, I will never buy another ticket!

Just fire him. You would think that is painfully obvious by now…

Woodson’s winning percentage has to be an historic all time low for NBA coaches with a minimum of 200 games.
It would be nice to see the Hawks regain some degree of competitive form.
The Hawks need a young, agressive, enthusiastic leader. Not a tired, old, retread from a bygone era.
But who the hell worth anything would want to step into this mess?

Where does Mike Woodson go from here is out fire along with Billy Knight I don’t see why the ownership did’nt step in when Billy kept mess up draft pick not going after player that they need not once but twice? is he that stubit? he did the same with the Gizzler and now ownership don’t want to listen to him now come on now they should have been took a stand and did it their way

Mario West is a good defensive player and Josh Childless is worst i don’t see why he keep putting him in games when they are trying to win he a mistake i don’t see anything in him that would impress me about him he play good every once in a while you have to blame the coach knowing who to put in, in situation where you want to win and what i see he don’ care any more about wining

Mr. Hack,
Oddly I am in agreement with you the rotation is too tight to make a playoff push. It is easy scout and beat a team that relies on 7 players to win games.
Woodson wants to run and gun but he does not want to keep his guys fresh.

I know there are many theories why Billy was not allowed to can his coach. I suspect the owners intend to ax Billy at the end of year and want to give the new GM a chance to hire his own man.
Or both guys may get raises & contract extensions. Nothing would surprise me when it comes to this mess of a franchise.

Gosh you are a hack……at least you are right in line with Hawk management, coach, and talent.
Someday the HAWKS will actually play defense, make a correct draft pick, and find a decent coach.
Marvin Williams is a back up, he showed it tonight!

I am one of the people that gave Mike Woodson and Billy Knight a chance. I have defended them more often than any Hawks fan could. I’m done with both of them. Especially Mike Woodson. We at least have talent on our team, though BK is not competent enough to build a championship team. Mike Woodson has no clue on how to adjust on the fly in a game and his substitutions are horrendous. But at least we have that great defensive gameplan that he swore he was bringing to the team. OMG!
BTW…Will ATL Spirit be able to fire them both without enduring animosity about how a African-Americans don’t get a chance in this town? I, for one, am no longer a person that is going to use that one. MV7,BK, and MW are only making it tougher on the sports figures that actually have made an impact.

i have no ideal why mike woodson is still the head coach.the owners need to get a reality check.let one of the asst.coaches take over for the rest of the year.then you can pursue another coach for next year. here are three suggestions. JEFF VAN GUNDY,MIKE FRATELLO,DOMINQUE WILKINS

I WATCHED THE HAWKS PLAY THE WARRIORS AND THE HORNETS AND I GOTTA SAY, MIKE WOODSON IS NOT A GOOD COACH. HONESTLY IF COACH KRUEGER HAD CHANCES LIKE THIS GUY I BELIEVE HE COULD HAVE PUT A WINNING TEAM ON THE FLOOR. IT’S EMBARASSING FOR THE CITY TO ENDURE THIS KIND OF TREATMENT; THE HOUR GLASS IS FULL AND IT IS TRULY TIME FOR MIKE WOODSON TO TURN THE HAWKS OVER TO A COACH WHO IS CAPABLE OF INSTILLING A WINNING ATTITUDE AND DISCPILINE TO THE THIS TEAM. JOSH SMITH PLEASEEEEEE LET MIKE BIBBY BRING THE BALL UP THE COURT, YOUR TURNING THE BALL OVER WAY TO MANY TIMES AT CRITICAL POINTS IN THE GAME.

WOODSON & KNIGHT MUST BE MARRIED INTO ONE OF THE OWNERS FAMILY! THESE TWO ARE THE WORST COACH/GM IN THE HISTORY OF THE NBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE DO NOT BRING IN NIQUE AS COACH OR GM. WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER FOUR YEARS OF 0.300 PERCENTAGE. LOOK AT NIGUE’S BACK GROUND.. HE CAN’T EVEN BALANCE HIS CHECKING ACCOUNT!!! BRING IN GUNDY,FRATELLO…WITH WINNING EXPERIENCE.

Mike Woodson couldn’t coach a middle school team to a winning season. This guy sucks! Billy Knight blows! This team would have been better off without the Joe Johnson deal. The guy is too inconsistent, he’s know superstar. I’m sure we can say goodbye to Josh Smith too. Why would that guy want to stay here?

If the Hawks canot win 35 games or more this year…then Woodson needs to go.
I see effort from the Hawks but they are young and still developing. I dont like Woodsons player mgmt in terms of overplaying and underplaying certain players.
talent/experience wise…the Hawks need an experienced center…preferably one that is especially good on the defensive side of the ball. This team gives up way to many lay-ups and dunks.
Offensively…it just seems that Woodson is not developing these guys as quickly as he should be.
Lets just see if he can win 35 or more.

It is my belief that the Hawks will never be serious contenders until the whole mindset of the organization changes. This organization seems content on just making the playoffs as though that is the main goal. If that is your only goal then you will be content getting embarrassed in the first round. The mindset should be one of building a championship caliber team and not just a playoff team. This team called it a victory to barely win two of the three games this weekend against two of the worst teams in the NBA.If they make the playoffs, they will be tempted to call it a sucessful year and leave the management team in place. If they miss the playoffs, big changes will likely be made. which one would you rather see based upon the previous 8 years?

Hey Doc
If you really had a crystal ball on your desk? - Then you would know that I am a Hot-Chick! Does drmaryb sound like a male name to you?
This seems odd to me because I have never met you in person - but the last time you checked was when?
You think I am a male? I have been called a lot of things but a male is not one of them!
Also, you don’t need to respond to any comments made directly to me - When I have time I can do that myself thank you very much!
And Here I Go!
Hey Glutton For Punishment
In response to your question: I am a primary care physician who specializes in Chiropractic. I work with a great group of dynamic doctors who specialize in everything from Nurtition to Sports Medicine.
My specialty is upper cervical and extremity adjusting. I am the team doctor for a professional football team that travels from CA to FLA in the spring-time. (Womens Professional full contact).
You can google me: Mary Burton and I would be highlighted as the #1 listing on the page in Roswell,GA.
I played collegiate tennis at the College of Charleston in the early 80’s. My name is Mary Ellen (So I guess I am a female after all)
Here’s my point I am a real person, a hot-chick ;o, with real comments and well thought out entries.
If doc wants me to be a male - maybe it’s because he’s really a closet GAY and want’s something - he can never have? Who knows? But somebody must have told him he was my DADDY - I have found him to be quite judgemental and the jury is still out on DOC for me - anyways!
Back to you though, what does FP stand for?
(ps: what happened to the most recent blog? It’s Gone!

Maybe the ownership should just move the team from the city and Toronto not being a NBA city could send their team to us…then the Hawks can keep Woody and Billy!!!

To me, either Woodsen or Knight have to go now. They don’t have the relationship needed between a coach and his boss. I would choose to send Knight packing, mainly because he has no clue when it comes to the draft. Who chooses Shelden Williams over a great PG? Woodsen might not be a great coach, but he hasn’t had much to work with yet.
