Traveling to La-La land
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
As the Hawks western swing continues, the team might be facing another opponent without its star player. On Friday, they beat Phoenix w/o Steve Nash. On Sunday, they faced a Warriors team with only nine healthy players in a Hawks win. Monday, Utah beat the Hawks even though it didn’t have the services of Carlos Boozer.
On Wednesday, the Clippers might have not have Elton Brand. He is listed as day-to-day with back spasms and didn’t play in the Clippers loss to Detroit on Monday. Brand is averaging 20.7 points per game and 9.2 rebounds a game.
The Clippers output vs. Detroit on Monday (74 points), matched their lowest scoring output of the season, set Jan. 6 at Atlanta.
Let’s hope the Hawks can give the Clippers another low scoring output in a sweet victory.

With JOE on the cusp of getting the ALL STAR bid that he initially deserved, I think the Hawks will all feed off of that.
The Young Hawks will come out and play high on emotion and increased motivation to end this West Coast Trip 3-1.
The Clippers are in Big Trouble. 1. Comin off a ‘shalackin’ to a young JAZZ team. 2. Rest Day and 3. JOE JOHNSON and a possible trip to LAS VEGAS. (Joe may go for 50 - 10 -10 tonite)

Can someone with Basketball savvy tell us “Regular” fans if the Hawks need to keep winning useless games or if they have a “Realistic” chance to make the playoffs? If yes or no, how does this balance on “protecting” the draft pick we stand to lose if we get caught in between? We need: Point guard, Center, etc.

Jack, The NBA has lottery system when it comes to determining the top draft picks. It’s set up so teams can’t purposely “tank” toward the end of the season. The Atlanta Hawks, to my knowledge, have never gotten the number one pick from the NBA lottery. With Jason Kidd, the Nets’ best player, being injured and the Hawks having 14 road games left (counting tonight), the Hawks could “sneak” into the playoffs. Right now, the Hawks are 111th in the East, with only 8 teams making the playoffs. They would need to jump over the Knicks, who see the Hawks on March 3, the Nets, best player injured, and the Heat, who have reinstated Pat Riley as coach, to make it. It’ll be tough, but with the second half yet to be played, it’s doable.
