Hawks-Lakers, second half

This is the third and final blog from “Blog Night” at Philips Arena.

As the second half started, J.J. only had 10 points, so everyone was looking for him to turn it up a notch.

A nice dunk by Josh Smith elecrtrified Hawk fans and gets the team within three, but the Lakers turn it up again. “Turn it up again” might be an oxymoron because the pace of this game is very slow. Remember the score was only 16-14 Lakers after the first period.

The pace of the game must have have fooled the Hawks because the Lakers went to the line numerous times in the second half. Luckily, the Lakers weren’t hitting those foul shots.

Everytime the Hawks would get close (i.e. within three), the Lakers would just pull enough away, but the Hawks would turn it on and come back. Eventually, the Hawks put up a good showing, but they ran out of gas and the Lakers were able to win by seven.

The Hawks might have lost the game, but they showed great tenacity in coming back so many times when they were down and I enjoyed the experience of “Blog Night.” It was great to talk to other bloggers who share the same passion for the Hawks as I do.

Go Hawks!

It’s alright they need to wash that taste out of their mouth and move forward. The Nets will be looking for revenge. We can still get in this thing and finish off the season on the up and up.

You are a MORON. The hawks should have won this game and there are no excuses for not doing so. Your blogs just keep getting increasingly pathetic.

We refuse to continue to pay to see this garbage of a team. Hawks ownership/management group, Billy Knight, Mike Woods, in the famous words of Donald Trump, You’re FIRED !

I can never understand why WOODSON does not use bench players such as Jeremy Richardson,Solomen Jones and Slava Medvedenko especially when the starters are strugling.

Hawks beat themselves last night. The free throw line just killed them. Everyone is raving on and on about Kobe. He is good and he had a little 3 minute spurt. The Hawks, however, would have only been down 2 points if they had hit their free throws during that stretch. Plus, Kobe missed several shots after his little uprising. So, Kobe missed enough shots for the Hawks to win.

Last night was just another sign that this team is a fraud. They put themselves away last night, it was not Kobe. Although, listening to the clowns that cover this team, you would think otherwise.

Not saying Kobe wasn’t a factor, but the Hawks were really their own worse enemy.

Was there two bigger nonfactors last night than Marvin Williams and Sheldon Willams? Always play weak against tough competition.

Last night’s game was nothing to be happy about. There are no moral victories when you continually kill yourself at the line. That is not OK to do. I don’t agree with you, Hack. Just because the came back a few times, does not mean we should be happy. They have always done that.

They were in position to win and just kept crapping the bed at the line.

Hawks Hack,

That was a pretty lame assesment of last nights game. How you can spin that lousy effort positive is beyond me. Do you even understand basketball?

I agree that the Hawks gave away that game, but it wasn’t any Hawks player’s ineptitude that annoyed me the most last night at Philips. With the amount of cheers that erupted for every pro-Lakers play, it’s safe to say that the city of Atlanta gives the term “sell-out crowd” a whole new meaning.

I am ashamed to be a Hawks fan today, because collectively, we suck much worse at being fans than the Hawks do at playing basketball. We need to get it together!

Masood,

I couldn’t agree more that Philips was annoying last night. Did you hear the cheer that went up when Kobe was introduced? Think that would happen in Detroit or Chicago? I don’t.

A lot of those Kobe lovers will be Hawks fans, if the team ever starts winning. This is a front running town. People will jump on the bandwagon if this team could ever give them something to cheer about.

Last night reminded me of the cand ars fans that cheered for Cal Ripkin’s game winning HR against the Braves a few years back.

As a Hawk fan in L.A., I was embarrassed listening to the Laker broadcasters mocking the ATL as a Laker home game. As Laker broadcasters, they are constantly trying to convince us in L.A. that Kobe is the most popular player in the league, and they used last night debacle as an example. What these idiots don’t realize is that the ATL is the worst sports town in the WORLD. They cheer more for the Cowboys, Cubs, Yankees, and Lakers, turning these visiting teams into home favorites, instead of just staying home like they do most of the time.

I feel sorry for Joe Johnson and Michael Vick, players who lay it all on the line for their teams for an unappreciative city. It seems to me the Hawks are circling the drain as a franchise and should just give up on the ATL, since no one shows up anyway, except to cheer for the other teams. They should reward JJ with a trade to a contending team who need and would appreciate his talents such as Utah, San Antonio, or Dallas. Now that Oklahoma City is losing the Hornets, and the Hawks ownership situation is another big joke, they should relocate to a city that would love to have them, and SHOW UP. Put this ailing dog to sleep.

Yeah, I can tell you’re a die hard fan. You sound like the exact kind of guy that would cheer for the other team.

Atlanta is not the worst sports town in the world, it’s a transient town with multiple fortune 500 companies and the busiest airport in the world, so we have alot of transplants. The locals may need some cajoling (i.e. winning seasons) to come out and support, but only because we’ve been getting let down by every last one of our teams for at least the last 12 years. I still can’t stand it, but I do understand it.

What I don’t understand is why a self proclaimed Hawks fan would suggest trading Joe Johnson and moving to Oklahoma. You are perpetuating the very mentality that you are attempting to put down! On top of that you made random words bold, and double posted! Ugh! Can we trade YOU to a contender instead?

Let’s face it everybody wants to associate with a winner, it’s just human nature. They use to do the same thing at Braves game before they became a consistent winner. When you look at the talent level of Lakers and the fact that they have one of the top coaches in the history of the NBA, you have to be proud of the effort the Hawks put forward. Give the team some credit they never backed down from the Lakers. How many people do you know can shut Kobe down, but the Hawks answered the bell, you gotta love that. Most of you basketballs jocks have already mention the numerous short coming of the Hawks yet they still had a chance to win this game. These guys are starting to learn how to fight back. During the post game interview Woody informed the media that Marvin was having back spasm. In fact he’s been wearing that back brace for last couple of games. So if you want to blame someone, blame Woodson for not using more of bench. Until Woodson learn how to make better use of the players he has, we’ll keep seeing this uneven play bye the Hawks. Why is it okay for curtain players to make mistakes, but every time Salim, Solomon, Royal in the other reserves make mistakes they don’t get to play for four or five games? How are guys going to be able to make a contribution to the team if they don’t get to play?

This is for Masood who was obviously offended by my computer error and comments. Since you are a Johhny-come lately to the Atlanta sports scene let me educate you. As a 30 year fan of the Hawks the so-called fans you say are so beleaugered, have been doing the same crap for 30 years, even in winning times. When Dr. J or Larry Bird would come to town, the scene was very reminiscent of the Lakers game the other night. All American cities have transient populations now in this global economy so dont give me that for an excuse. As for trading JJ this man came to the ATL and has tried to turn around a franchise where nobody shows up, and when they do they come to see the other team (they are not all transients). It is a shame to see a player who is every bit as talented as Kobe, waste his most productive years. As for the bold words in my previous posting they are meant to provide emphasis (like you are an idiot)to certain words. As for the double posting my computer had an error message and i was not sure it went thru on the first attempt. Sorry Masood
