Back in junior high

Well, the Atlanta Spirit vs. Steve Belkin is at it again.

Here’s the latest: The Hawks and Thrashers can’t sign any free agents to multi-year deals, make trade for players who have multi-year deals and can not make changes in management without Belkin’s consent.

So, the good news is that the Hawks can continue to sign Sheldon Williams, their draft pick this year, and Speedy Claxton, since draft picks and deals already in the works are not affected.

The bad news is that this saga is not over.

Belkin’s lawyers want to make sure that the Atlanta Spirit doesn’t devalue the franchise before Belkin can take control. According to quotes in the AJC, Bernie Mullin and Don Waddell are upset at this accusation.

Sorry to break it to you, guys, but that’s how lawyers work.

Belkin’s lawyers are upset that the Atlanta Spirit has “everybody here expect Speedy Claxton to try to influence this case.”

Well, of course, that’s what their lawyers try to do.

So, it begins again. Another day in court. More finger pointing and name calling. Its like breaking up a fight between two junior high kids. I’m waiting for the day GM Billy shoves Belkin to the ground and spits on him.

It has gotten to the point now where I don’t care who becomes owner. I just want an NHL team that makes it to the playoffs and an NBA team that’s respectable again.

Is that so wrong?

Every time the team takes a small step forward, they get smacked four steps back. How in the hell do we do a sign and trade with Harrington? Hawks fans nobody understands our Pain!!!

And people want Belkin to take over because? I think it’s sad when the team finally get something good going, something crazy happens. It’s sad that we have to get his consent to be competitive again just in case he gets sole ownership over the two franchises. Where are the Belkin supporters now?

Steve Belkin has been a problem since day 1, he is another example of a spoiled rich guy wanting his way. He somehow gets the other owners to sign this ridiculous agreement where he only has to put up a few million and then they have to buy him out for over a hundred million, then when they don’t he does nothing but disrupt the teams progress. All that is going on here is sour grapes by Belkin plain and simple one of those if I can’t have it then you can’t either situations. He wouldn’t be approved at this point by the NBA or NHL as an owner even if the courts decide that he can purchase the team for nearly nothing. Belkin is basically stealing our franchises through the court system and the other owners are proving just how bumbling that they are by signing such an agreement. This is just a play about money and sadly Belkin has the upper hand, if the Hawks can’t sign any players to help what we have and can’t take on a player with a multi year contract in return for Al then they will continue to struggle and fans will not buy tickets, the present owners will lose more money and in the end probably have to sell the teams and Belkin will still get his money regardless. Just a rich vindictive man holding our teams hostage in a stupid tug of war over pride. I hope Belkin pays for this one day. The Hawks will never be any better until we get a single owner who can call the shots on his own. Where are you TED, Aurthur, even David McDavid. Please someone help us take our Atlanta teams back.

I do think that we would be better off if the judge told both Belkin and the Spirit group that they had to sell the teams and split the money and that as a condition of the ruling that nobody in either group can ever attend, watch or even buy a T-shirt for a sports team in the future much less be an owner.

wow, now the fans in Atlanta finally understand that Belkin is a disaster to this team. I can’t believe the people that have been in support of Belkin to come in, just to fire BK. BK is doing a great job, period, and to want an owner to come in and halt the direction that the Hawks are headed (which is two steps in the right direction) is VERY ignorant. You so-called fans should be ashamed of yourselves, especially if you want basketball to thrive in the ATL.

Belkin will win and take the Hawks to Vegas!!

It is the Spirit that have been horrible since day 1!! If they want to get rid of Belkin so bad just pay the money and get him out of your hair - or - get bought out!! It’s that simple.

The Spirit is the group dragging the teams thru the mud, not Belkin.

Ask yourself this… What would Blank / Turner do?

Marta Tunnel,

just like your name declares, you have tunnell vision and your comments are idiotic. how can the Spirit pay the money to Belkin when he’s asking an obsurd amount for his stake? No other teams in the NBA go for what he’s trying to get … you are obviously not a savy business person. ignorance will get you No WHERE! The Spirit ownership group is here to pull the teams out of the mud … Belkin is the lone ranger making that a problem.

Problem with the Junior High School talk to the principal.

Ask Artest. Stern fought the law and Stern won. If you have a problem with the owner situation and you want to make a differance send an email, fax, letter or call the NBA.

For those of you who do not know. Belkin has adhered to his part of the proceedings for his buyout. Unfortunately, the Spirit did not, which triggered the option for Belkin to buy them out. The Spirit are the one’s appealling and keeping this mess going. If you have a problem with where the ownership situation is now, please see the Spirit

Read,

see my comments up above, this is not the Spirit’s fault … Belkin is claiming that his share is worth far more than what it is actually worth … no other team in the NBA nor NHL combined is worth the amount of money he’s asking. Belkin is purposely prolonging this to get more money than he should …

This is depressing. Finally, it looks like our hockey team and basketball teams are heading in the right direction and this happens. I’m wondering if Belkin wins, which i hope doesn’t happen, then what happens if the leagues don’t approve the new owner.

jamaal maclurie $8.000.000,plus calvan booth$6.000.000,or joe smith$6.000.000,in a sign and trade the the bucks for al harrington.this trade will work under the new one year contract, because each one of the bucks players are in the last year of there contracts.and plus the bucks get a proven scorer,to go with redd. at the small foward position, the bucks weakest spot. f—k,belkin and the spririts. the nba should take the hawks, away and sell them to better owners.

I think that the Hawks should retain Harrington for another year, until all of this mess is cleared up. Belkin i dont see him as being a problem. I see it as a man trying to look out for his future investment. If he becomes the owner, me as a person wouldnt want any sorry player playing on my team, with a multi deal contract that I can not get rid of. I can see the lawyer point. Billy must go! Like everyone asking who in the hell is Speedy Claxton, and what makes yall think this point guard is going to lead this team into the playoffs. He is no Micheal Vick! Besides all the good players that was left in free agency pretty much have made deals with other teams. Atlanta muck-up the draft picks, it will be years before we see a major impact. Lets not knock down Belkin before we see what he can actual bring to the table. It might be a positive! I know that people hate changes, but it might be a good thing for the Hawks. We would never know if we keep hating on the man.

Belkin needs to go away we were just making some progress I mean we just got some muscle in the post and we just added a good not great but good point guard to the backcourt and we were just about to do a sign and trade with Harrington for one or maybe even two good players and this stupid b***h a*s punk faget a*s idiot bellkin fucks up everything.

This is sad that the fans of the Hawks and Thrashers have to go through this. Look the hawks season was an improvement but 26 wins was nothing to be real excited about. We might as well face it neither team will be any better as long as this battle goes on. I don’t like Belkin he’s the same guy who didn’t want Joe here. Yeah the Hawks over paid but you have to begin somewhere and Joe was a good start. This was suppose to be our year to make the BIG moves in the free agent market. Other teams are out there tweaking their roaster finding the right pieces, wheeling and Dealing. Not the Hawks, we are in court. This is the off season and we(the hawks and thrashers fans)are talking about court, you hear me court, not free agents not and trades but… court. Well there goes 2006-2007 season down the drain. Hey there always next year after the next year.

Jason - It’s still the SPIRIT’s fault. They never got the 3rd appraisal, which is what they should have done. They do not want to spend the money to but Belkin out!!! This is all about money. The SPIRIT don’t want to pay it and Belkin wants it. The problem is Belkin has been keeping up with his end of the bargain and the SPIRIT have not, even with Stern and the league behind them, because they do not want to spend the money.

I agree with mred. Does anyone know who we are supposed to get from either Golden State or Indiana. Neither team has a big man that would dramatically improve our situation, and definitlely not one who is of equal worth to Harrington. It appears he will be going to one of those two places in the near future, so I hope there is a third team involved that can offer us something (preferably a strong defensive 7 footer). Let me know what you’ve heard…

I like Troy Murphy from Golden State, an athletic power forward and a rebounding fool! He also has a pretty good jumpshot. It looks like he and Mikael Petreus is the best deal on the table. Jamal Maglorie is two years older than murphy a free agent to be and a HORRIFIC free throw shooter. The Josh Foster/anthony Johnson deal?

B***h please! Scrubs! I like troy Murphy. He ain’t Al, but he is an athletic big body who will crash the boards who is only 26 and under contract for 3 more years I think.

Golden State may also throw in a draft pick if Billy can play a good game of liars poker. Petreus is anothr SG/SF combo yet another reason for Billy to make that deal. Petreus is more g than F and will back up JJ if the deal goes down.

Remember TROY MURPHY! Screw the Indiana scrubs and Jamaal “I wanna be Shaq on the freethrow line” Maglorie!

Go Troy!

By rob

July 13, 2006 01:13 PM | Link to this

The problem with Troy is he can’t play defense. We don’t need any more offense, we just need someone else to clog up the lane and block shots. Troy is NOT that guy. I would prefer Magloire, but if they could pull someone else out of a hat that would be even better. Although it doesn’t appear to be feasable, Dwight Howard would be perfect playing back in his home town.

Nobody on Golden States’ Team plays defense. Thats what Mike Woodson is for to coach Murphy on defensive fundamentals. I do not believe Shelden will be ready thus TROY would be perfect.

Hawk hack…..I got what I think is a correction…on Wednesday, July 12th An article in the AJC entitled “Thrashers, Hawks freed of shackles on player deals” seems to indicate that the judge made an admentment which allows the Hawks and Thrashers to make multi-year deals as long as they don’t exceed their leagues salary cap restrictions……..
