WOW!

CHICAGO - What else can you say?

Take your bow Al Horford.

You’ve only got about six or seven hours to bask in the glow of one of the most fantastic basketball showcases I’ve seen in the past 14 years of being in this profession (tonight’s game at Boston couldn’t have a better build up if Aaron Sorkin had scripted it).

If you missed the second-year Hawks center’s virtuoso performance in Tuesday night’s win here over Chicago, then I feel for you.

Because it was a one-of-a-kind performance.

With their star player struggling (Joe Johnson was 4-for-16 for the second straight game), his partner in crime back home (Josh Smith’s high ankle sprain kept him from making this road trip) and playing in a building the Hawks hadn’t won in since Horford was walking the hall of Grand Ledge High School, a young star was reborn (those Rookie of the Year votes people handed to Kevin Durant last year need to be recounted).

“He had a monster game,” Hawks coach Mike Woodson said in the understatement of the century after the Hawks’ 113-108 win over the Chicago Bulls at United Center.

How about one of the most “monster” games these eyes have ever seen.

The career-high 27 points, 17 rebounds, six blocks, three assists and steal don’t do justice to the effort Horford gave on this night.

He was quite simply a man among boys, like a young Karl Malone having his way around the basket.

I’ll stop with the craziness here shortly. But I have to admit, it’s not often that you watch a guy work and wonder if he knows that he realizes he’s taken his game to another level.

So I walked into the Hawks’ locker room after the game and glanced at Horford with one eye squeezed together.

“What’s good?” he asked.

“It looks like you,” I said before we both busted out laughing.

There were no ulterior motives for Horford in this one, though I’m sure he liked smashing on Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas, two of his contemporaries in college and now the NBA.

He simply understood that the Hawks hadn’t won in years in the house Michael Jordan built. He knew a job needed to be done and he rose to occasion in a fashion reserved for only the special players.

You’ve seen it from Johnson (countless times), Smith (remember Games 3 and 4 against the Celtics in the playoffs), Bibby (in Sacramento a zillion times and some Tuesday night with his ruthless four, fourth-quarter 3-point daggers) and now Horford.

This was his night. He owned it from the start and he never let up, not even for a second.

“I thought he was going to get 40, 40 and 10 blocks,” Marvin Williams said smiling. “I looked up early and he already had 16 points, six rebounds and four blocks and thought I was seeing double. That was crazy.”

Again, if you missed it, I feel for you.

Because it was a sight to see Horford work like that and then act like he hadn’t done anything special afterwards.

“Al can pass, he can score, he plays defense and he can …” Bibby said from his chair after the game, “he’s a hard man to stop.”

Tuesday night was mission impossible for the poor Bulls.

Man - I’m so mad I missed this one! Hopefully this a sign of great things to come from Horford on a nightly basis. JJ and Smoove down and other team members steppin’ up is beautiful thing. Let’s take it to Boston - let’s make em’ suffer.

This is not your usual Hawks. This is the 2008-2009 version and they are in a word….SPECIAL!! And so was Al Horford. This team is going to be very hard to beat as the season wears on. I am very anxious to see how they handle the back-to-back!!!

For those who are awaiting the collapse….hold your breath…..so we can finish the rest of the season without y’all!!! Anyone wishing that we collapse is either not a fan or does not understand basketball.

It was indeeed very funny to see before the start of the season all the naysayers who did not even expect us to contend or even make 8th place in the Eastern Conference. How pathetic!! And what is ironical is to see how many so called experts are ranking us so high now!!! I know it’s still early but we are doing something we didn’t do last year and that’s winning on the road!!!

Well guess what…like the Falcons the nation is now watching. Someone mentioned in the last blog that they will soon have to change the National TV schedule…….All I have to say to that is…WORD!!!! What I also watching is Marvin’s quiet efficiency and unsung performances. He has added a new dimension to his game and he will get even better as the season goes along!!

GO HAWKS!!!!!

Nuff respect!!!

I am so proud of the way the Hawks are playing. They go hard every night and do not give up. But I am upset at the way these so called NBA experts refuse to give the Hawks the respect they deserve. Yet, they are praising the hell out the Lakers who have the exact same record. I can’t wait to the end of the season when those so called experts will have to eat their words!

Props for being on the NBA channel. I think you should’ve gotten the Nique question right lol. I know your a Michigan man, and I’m from the oh10 add the state, so that puts us at odds. However, we share some common love for the home team. Two questions for you.

1) How did Rose look up close and personal. To me that boy is the truth.

2) Can a brother get some tickets for the Jersey game, in Jersey Friday night?

Oh I have one more question. Was this Big Al’s coming out party? I see a 20-10 in the making (Perhaps next year). Correct me if I’m wrong….

Oh hell Leggler just gave us props.. Damn Leggler said BWAF should be coach of the year….

Espn we saw this out the gate. You’re mad late….

Great game by Horford of course but I am concerned that Woody shortened the reserve minutes so drastically. He basically used a 7-man rotation in the sixth game of the year.

Seriously though, I’m hoping this is a start of a new era where Al Horford gets plays run for him in the post. People have criticized his post moves on this blog in the past, but to me his post moves have always looked pretty fundamentally sound. He’s just not really given the opportunity to showcase his offensive skills on a regular basis, which means when he does try to score it’s not always automatic. I’ve been convinced, and am even more so now after watching this game, that with more touches he will produce at a high level offensively more consistently. Yeah I know not all his points today came from having plays run for him, but good things tend to happen when you feed him the ball. Keep in mind the Bulls, for all their faults, have been a pretty good defensive team for the last few years, so it’s not like Horford did this against a bunch of cupcakes. Run more plays for the guy, Woody.

These are the kind of games that good teams win. You can’t let a team like Chicago make all those turnovers and dumb decisions without cashing in- and the Hawks did just that. The balance of the scoring is impressive- save for a couple of lapses Atlanta’s ball movement was excellent.

I got NOTHING to say about Horford. An absolute manchild.

You cats got to relax with all this “personal” ish. It sounds like Oprah. If you can’t handle a response to your often jaded and sometimes absurd posts ando, then, well, why post?

You’ve been on this “trade the starting point guard” kick. If I contest that theory I’m your college girlfriend? I’m moronic? Talk about personal. ando, you’re a very good boy. There will be no “hate ando” club. Perhaps you’d feel better if we all sent you a nice card.

Ray, as far as the only five (or six now) games thing, and the “trade talk is what it is” thing, both are good points. But based on the twenty-four quarters I’ve seen, barring multiple injuries, this IS a team that absolutely can contend for 45-50 wins. After all, this is the same core group that has been here for years now, and can you honestly tell me there’s been a BETTER run than this at any point before? This is how playoff teams with home court advantage handle their business during the regular season.

Don’t remember the particular Bibby post you referred to, Ray- though I can assure you I read damn near every one of your posts.

WOW is it. Now if they can beat the Celtics tomorrow, then it will be a triple wow. Great game. I expect the Hawks to suffer their first season loss tomorrow, but they might just pull it off and if they do, WOW, WOW WOW!. AL was a beast. I’v said before he needs to get the ball more, especially against certain teams. Beautiful win! Great game!!!! Go Hawks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Davenpoop called it- they should run MORE offense through Horford. He’s clearly ready. The Chicago radio guys (good broadcast, don’t know their names) were noting the amount of time Horford spent under the basket on fast breaks- dunk after dunk on outlet passes. They said it was an old Indiana thing.

The defensive scheme looks an awful lot like those Piston teams from a few years back. They appear to be (successfully, excluding CP3) compensating for Bibby’s slowness- Horford in particular seems to come into the picture frequently. Really, the help-defense in general has been strong.

The Bulls are a train wreck. So many turnovers, rushed shots. The Hawks really went for the kill. Anybody else notice that they had Marvin Williams on the block for a good part of the third quarter? He looks more aggressive, and he’s fighting for rebounds down there.

Ya’ll think Pachulia is ready for tomorrow night? We might even spot a few Boston trolls here today. You heard it here first- the Celtics go down tomorrow. I can’t believe that this Atlanta team, that has come out ready every game so far, wouldn’t be ready for THIS game.

Lacsho,

Thanks man. And I should have gotten the Nique question right. It’s a good thing DA saved us because I was about to say Reggie Miller.

Derrick Rose is sick. I’m talking about the second coming of somebody. I haven’t figured out exactly who yet (he’s a hybrid, a cross between JKidd, DWill and probably some other big PGs that we’ve all seen).

I’ve got two front row … (did my man say Ohio State?) Oh, man. Sorry. No ticket hook ups for Friday night. Until your boys stop beating up on my boys, I’m all out of tickets. Ha. (I’ve got none to give anyway, sorry.)

Great game by Horford. Maybe I need to call him out more on the blog. I think Noah is scared of him or something. Lets see if he can do it against the taller Celtic frontline. I give the edge to Garnett.

He does play better at the 4 instead of the 5. So what do we do? Sit Marvin and start Smooth at 3 and Zaza at center?

I just hate that the first game this season against the Celts has to be the 2nd night of a back-to-back. The good news is it’s early in the season so fatigue shouldn’t be too much of a problem. They just need to be ready for that opening run from the Celts who will, no doubt, want to send a message.

Completely unrelated…

Can Joe Johnson get a freakin’ foul called for him!?!?

Nice win for the hawks ALHORFORD WAS A BEAST the only negative is that WOODY IS SLOWLY SLEEPING A WAY FROM his bench stick with your bench and dont get impatient and keep your starters fresh thats how the hawks will be better on defense keeping them fresh if not they will slowly regress and your opponent will began scoring more point NICE win. Rick Sund said on the radio the other day we didn’t NEED a 5, because Horford was a 5 and not a 4. Don’t know if I agree with that, but danged if he ain’t good. I agree with an earlier poster that it’s not a good sign to see Woody already going to the 7 man rotation; what does he not understand about keeping the team fresh? It’s not a very complicated concept. Regardless, I’m very proud of this team. Losing Smoove for a month last year would have flushed us down the toilet. Looking forward to putting a beatdown on the Celts.

BA,

Injuries is the only thing I truly fear this season. Already we’ve been without Smith, which makes me uncomfortable. Thankfully, guys have stepped up without him. I believe we can contend for 45 wins if we manage to stay healthy for the most part (the injury to Josh is not really a big one, but something that is not to be played with). It requires that the guys maintain their level of intensity as it is right now. Let up one bit, and we can lose any game, as there are a lot of competitive teams in the East this year. Our defense is miles beyond what it has been, and fortunately so is our offense, though we still have some kinks to work out.

It’s all good. I just checked the Nets website. They got a two for 1 going on Friday night. I’ll gas my cousin up to go with me.

JJ is due to have a big night. Of course they’re going to double team him. I hope Bibby can have can have another great night. If our players have a good shooting night, this will be a good night.

Have you guys notice, when Horford stays out of foul trouble, he usually has a pretty good game. Last night he had a monster game.

Najeh

Back in the day I really wanted the Hawks to draft Conley, but I think there’s no way we could have gotten Conley and Horford. I’m still confident Acie will get his chance to shine. Oh yeah I did make a comment about Al’s low post game. I guess he shut me up last night. Let’s hope this will be the first of something special. I don’t mind eaten crow.

Ray

I agree with your comments about Acie. You never know about injuries, and I think before the first season ends Acie will get his chance to sink or swim. Hopefully, he’ll pull a Michael Phelps.

MASSIVE props to Horford and the Hawks for another win. I would say that winning all these games is getting boring, but I’d be lying my a$$ off. I’m enjoying the snot out of this streak.

One quick note… have you ever seen a 3rd year top 5 pick player look so utterly lost, clueless and unskillful as Tyrus Thomas did last night? He looked horrific on the court. And what happened to the Luol Deng from 2 seasons ago? Is he still dealing with injury problems? I’m elated the Hawks won but I was also blown away by the lack of talent on that Bulls team. Rose is incredible but shouldn’t the other lottery picks on that team be contributing on a nightly basis? Gordon, Noah, Thomas & Deng all past lottery picks and none of them seem to be as consistent as they need to be for their team. Yikes!

But that’s a them problem.

Here’s hoping that the BIG 3 are on the floor when the game ends tonight. I don’t think that was the case during those playoff games in Boston.

First, another great win by our team. When you can pull one out becuase you have a better team and may not be playing like, but still find a way, it builds character and confidence. I said that Bibby would come through and he did last night. I am not saying that will happen every night, but we don’t need that as long as someone takes the opportunity to shine like AL did last night. Mo was 3-4 from 3 and had 17 after a couple of off nights. So when it’s not JJs night, Al steps up. When it’s not Murray off the bench with the spark, it’s Mo. That’s what you call a team fellas!! I saw in the NO game that when NO tried to make a run, the ball would go down to AL and he would get that bucket that would slow things down and help us get composure again. He is solid, and with 6 blocks, yes sir! Man, I know I am a newbie, but what does BWAF mean? Let me know!! I was at all three playoff games last year and I still remember how that place felt. That was the start, but it’s payback time now!!! 7-0 yes sir.

The back to back thing, is that cause for worry, or can we step it up? Hey step up or step down!! How bout them HAWKS!!!

Great Game Hawks! Funny I havent seen any beantown folks on here yet. Relax aboutt he 7 man rotation. With Smith in that would be an 8 man rotation.

I hope we got enough in the tank to take it to Boston. It’s going to be a good one.

I ithnk it is important…as is most nights….but VERY important to get out to a fast and sharp start against the Celtics. Set the pace early on their floor and let them know waht kind of night they are in for and let them know we mean business …not jsut in the regualr season….but for when we meet them in the post again:)

I think the Hawks should play conservative starting the game with Boston..they dont need to exert themselves too much starting off considering they are coming off a back-to-back night. U see what happen to Philly when we played them. They played the night before, started the game GREAT, putting us in a 23-pt def..but towards the end of the game, Philly couldnt keep up with us cause they wore themselves out. The Hawks need not kill themselves too early but just stay close enough with them to have a chance toward the end of the game!! GO HAWKS..

ps: Oh by-the-way, whoever said they would run down the street butt-naked in a Hawks jersey if we went 7-0, better get really cause we are only one game away from that!!

Way to go Hawks!!! We here on the blog have been talking this team up from the start. Now, others are begining to recognize us. Can we get on TNT? Al what a game! I must though give A LOT of credit to Mike Woodson and the job he has done. This team actually looks well coached, and I even see him out coach the opponent. Was having Billy around that much of a strain on him or have these guys just turned a huge corner. All of this wihthout Josh. When he comes back look out. Aw Heck, look out now!! If Marvin can join in Sekou’s list of players who have won games for us then we will not just be a 4 or 5 seed, it will be time to think championship. That is right I said it Championship!!

I cant complain about much from last nights game but I think Woody should have played Solo and Pachulia more. Pachulia and Horford were having their way down in the paint. I saw no reason to have Flip in and have ZaZa on the bench. We won but I was really baffled by that. Law needs to go watch old film of himself in college or something. He seems as if he has lost his confidence already. I see that someone is giving Horford backhanded compliments. When Sean Williams or Solo can put up the kind of numbers Horford put up last night maybe then I will pay attention but until then all that talk about them being better than Horford is pure B.S.

I was reading a Bulls blog last night and those guys are pretty much tired of Tyrus Thomas. They want him traded A.S.A.P. They are pretty p** they paid so much for Deng too. A lot of their players have seem to regressed. Tyrus came out of college at the right time. If he would have stayed longer people would have seen that all he really does is jump high. Gotta love it when a guy comes out before people realize he really isn’t that good.

Horford should play at this level every night regardless if josh is in the line up or not. Overall monster game though.

No worries about the bench- we cant play 10 guyz every night and expect to win. Solo along with ZAZA should see big minutes tonight, We’ll definitely need them if we are to have a chance against KG,Perkins and Powe.

Marvin is finally starting to get it -I think,he is playing under control and making good decisions on offense. rebounding and lckdown to describe Marvin sounds wierd but thats what I see and I lkie it -keep it going yung fella.

Decaturking…… I’ve been say’n that about acie for a cupl weeks now-he looks really lost and ineffective. I rarely see him do anything positive. a guy with that type ability should be driving the lane and getting to the rim ala D Rose.

Yeah i know he’s yung yada yada yada, his job is to hand the ball to JJ and Bibby yada yada. Mr H and H, hand the ball off and hide is what I call him…………

dam it let me in that time machine, and set it for june 27,2008…. with the 11th over all pick the Atlanta Hawks select Rodney Stuckey…and the crowd goes wild.

Acie Law is still a rumor -I dont care what anybody says, Not gonna eat our yung’n but im gonna comment on his performance until he shows me sumthing.

I know JJ had an off shooting night, but you have to make reference to the double teams he demanded and got open shots for Bibby and Mo Evans. The defense he played was exceptional as well as the whole team. Most nights it’s just not about scoring, that’s why I think other than Kobe, he is the best 2 in the league. If he got the calls D-Wade received, he would average 30 a game.

HB Ando

Look, you can cling to your Bibby-hate,it’s your choice. I’m not here to try and change your mind.

Kirk, I have read Ando’s posts about Bibby and nowhere do I find him “hatin”. Why do you insist on using the tactic of accusing him of hating Bibby? And putting it as if it’s a choice?

If Ando said he thinks GM will cut 30% of it’s workforce would you accuse him of “hating” the auto workers?

Don’t twist the truth in order to make a point. He has not said he wanted Bibby traded, but gave his opinion that he thought it was very likely. If you can’t see the difference than you are not as smart as we all think that you are.

You lose credibility when you use hyperbole to supplant facts. You are the guy who ranted last year about wanting facts to support positions taken on this blog, and now you want to change that?

Give him his due. Agree or disagree with him, but he’s not “hatin”.

cp I hear ya man. I never said they were better all around players. I said they were better defensive players. I know neither can score like Horford but I belive they can shut down the paint at the center position. Not the power forward position.

Horford still needs to prove he can play defense playing the 5. That’s what’s going to happen when Smooth gets back. But who knows Woody might see the light and sit Marvin and start Zaza.

Now y’all see why I’ve been hollarin’ for Horford to get a touch every third trip. Pure beastism.

But, that said, he was up against one of the weakest front lines in the league, and missing Gooden at that. Still a magnificent game though.

Don’t expect 20 and 10 tonight, though I’d love to be wrong on that.

I am concerned abut Woody shortening the bench on the first night of a back-to-back. We have three more back-to back series between now and Thanksgiving. We need to be using all of our assets early on. So far, I have to give Woody credit for making in-game adjustments that he never did last year. But it seems like last night would have been a great time to use Solo, Randmo, and Hunter against a lesser frontline and save a little more energy for tonight. Cannot argue with the result, though.

If we win tonight, then I’ll say his method is validated for now.

However, SS stop co signing on management’s deluded thinking that the team can win with Al at the 5. What happened to Josh can and will happen to Al if they don’t get of of their penny pinching , reactionary stance. Tonight will be Al’s baptism of fire at 4 and no mater how it turns out( I believe he will do well but he will have some foul trouble to contend with), that is the future folks.

The current incumbent coach’s player rotation is still suspect: 41 minutes for both JJ and Al before tonight’s game doesn’t inspire me with confidence.

I was at the game last night sitting just a few rows from the court, and I can tell you that Al was just intimidating!! He reminds me of an athletic version of Charles Oakley… just a monster on the boards and dealing out physical punishment. It was spectacular to watch!

ILL-logical,

I was a proponent of Al at the 5 long before the new front office crew showed up. Go back and read what I wrote after he and Josh Smith tore Odom and Gasol to pieces last year at Philips.

Last night he was working against the same cats he would have worked against if Smith was out there - Noah, Thomas, Gray and even Nocioni.

He just went off man.

I had to work, so I missed the 2nd half. But let me guess, he did all this playing the CENTER position? This guy has no natural position. He’s just a player. So you guys need to squash that Al and Smoove are playing out of position nonsense. Now if he was at PF last night, I’m going to feel like an idiot.lol’! But regardless, I still like him at Center with Smith at the 4. Gives us the best chance to win, in my opinion. Great win. I think we suffer our 1st loss in Beantown, but it’s all good. 6-1 aint too shabby.lol!! Hey, maybe we can pull the upset? Stranger things have happened. And how did Marvin Williams look last night? How about Acie?

This team has a chance to be good for 5 years but the problem is no is going to watch them. You’ve got to do something about this Sekou.

I had to work last night, so I couldn’t League Pass the Hawks…I checked my phone post-game, saw Horf’s stat line and almost passed out…AL versus Noah and Tyrus (with his subpar JSmoove impersonation) - he was supposed to have a good game, but dang!

I guess Woody was saving his bench for tonight, because it’ll be a high foul affair - I just hope Joe Cool gets some calls; I expect a Morris sighting tonight. This is gonna be a gritty game start to finish. Key player: Marvin Williams. How he’s scoring and how he’s defending Paul Pierce is the barometer for the Birds.

Oh, and Joe returns from his mini-slump tonight…hopefully :-D GEAUX HAWKS!

Illogical, how many minutes did Kobe and Lebron play last night? We are without one of the core 3 members at the moment. Why should we be resting our best player 6 games into the season? There’s time for that. Afterall, we only won by 5. I’m sure we’ll blow some teams out at home in the very near future, so JJ can get all the rest he needs. But on the road? The way this team has performed on the road in the past? I think not. I’d play him until his wheels fell off. lol!!

What’s good Hawks nation?

I got a chance to listen to the game last night while putting the baby to sleep (sure she woke up about two or three times when Daddy began yelling about Bibby and MoEvans starting hitting those threes in the fourth quarter) and even saw some of the game on ESPN Coast to Coast.

Someone tell me how they keep loving to diss this bench thinking that losing Josh Childress is the end of the world? Give me a freaking break!

Anyway, if Josh Smith’s nickname is Smoove and Joe Johnson is JJ: I HEARBY HAVE PUT A PETITION TO HAVE AL HORFORD’S NICKNAME OFFICIALLY BE BEAST!

He will no longer be called Al Horford, he shall be known as BEAST on this blog (props by Sautee for coming up with that). Al has been nothing but a BEAST since coming to Atlanta.

Sekou will you sign my petition to officially change his name to “BEAST” Horford?

HORFORD IS A BEAST! His attitude and willingness to do any and everything has been nothing but a positive for this team. Last night he showed out. Talk about having your teammate’s back! He said before the game that he and the whole team misses Josh Smith and that he was going to take it among himself to hold the forte down until his return and more than did that. I think comments like those followed by action like his last night just ignites a fire under the butt of all his teammates. He was on a mission and they all just fed off that all night. I’m a Gator fan so I’m used to seeing him do that, but it never gets old. He was the foundation of that great BACK2BACK championship college b-ball team that Noah, Brewer, and T Green fed off of though Noah got all the press for his flash. Horford was the substance though and it shows big time now. Billy Donovan knew what he was saying when he got caught with his pants down saying that anyone who drafts Noah before Horford was crazy. He just didn’t mean for it to get out. I think we haven’t even begun to see what a treasure we’ve unearthed in his potential yet. With Horf, J-Smoove, Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, Mike Bibby, a new and inspired Zsa-Zsa along with Solomon Jones, Flip Mode Murray, and Maurice Evans- the East better be on alert because I believe this may be the most competitive team we’ve had in Atlanta since the flying Hawks of the 80’s! The bench is deep for once and they all play with purpose and pride. This is absolutely awesome! I’ve waited a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time for this and tonight , whoa tonight I hope they beat the breaks off the little green men in Boston. Take note Appollo, Rocky Balboa is coming for a rematch and it starts tonight! (enter “Rocky” theme song here)

terrell barron Marvin looked pretty good out there. He was in foul trouble in the first half so he didn’t play much. He looked good driving to the hole. In the past he would dribble the ball off his foot, run somebody over, or get stripped. He has better body control it seems. He is also more aggressive in the rebounding area. He played a good game considering the minutes he played and shots he attempted. He is the x factor to me against the Celtics. We need him to come out aggressive on both ends tonight. I want to see Marvin attacking the rim and making it difficult for Pierce to score on the defensive end.

Law looked lost last night. I think he has lost his confidence already. He doesn’t look to drive or anything. Hopefully he will pull it together. His minutes seem to be dropping too so I don’t know how much he is going to improve if he is not playing.

I agree with Illogical, why play JJ that many minutes when he’s struggling. I do understand the offense scheme of using JJ as a decoy to setup other players, but we do also need to mix-it-up with him out of the lineup. This short term approach may back-fire.

Two other things: 1) I will (gulp!) man up and admit that I may have been wrong about Coach Woodson. It appears his main problem was not having a strong bench and I don’t know why I couldn’t see that before (maybe all the losing blinded me with anger LOL), cause I can’t count the number of times I’ve said over the past few seasons how if the NBA game was three qtrs the Hawks would be a dynasty. Now that Woody has a bench to work with, for FOUR qtrs that may just happen.

2)Zsa-Zsa - after the way you manned up last year against Garnett you are my new folk hero! You’ve played like you’re still in that moment all season so far and if you never score another point I will continue to hold you in high esteem forever dude. You’re our Russian “Kurt Rambis” and I can’t get enough!

Okay, now I’m done…

Great game by the Hawks and just a BEAST of a GAME from Horford. His rebounding was outstanding and the court awareness was even better. He contantly beat Grey down the court on fast breaks and really out worked Noah for rebounds. He’s improving every night and its great to see. JJ did a great job of passing the ball and not forcing issue when he’s jumper weren’t falling. HUGH 3’s from Bibby and Mo. I didn’t like the minutes of the players when I was listening to the game, but when I watched it later it wasn’t as bad as it appeared. Woody could have used Solo more, but he went small in the 4th for 3point shooting and there wasn’t any need to put another rebounder on the court when AL was getting all of them!!

I felt like JJ wasn’t going to have a great game last night because he’s mind was on tonights game. I really hope I can see tonights game, but I think my free subscription to NBA Broadband has expired! I think Woody will start Zaza again and have him check Garnett. I think the HAWKS “switch everything” defense works well (even better with JS in the line up), but I don’t think it will work that well against Boston. Marvin’s been playing great defense, so I wouldn’t mind just leaving him one-on-one with Pierce for most of the game. Don’t want double-team him and leave Ray open for 3’s. The issue with that is if Marvin gets in foul trouble, Mo will have to come in and I don’t think he can cover Peirce at all. (Pierce will just back him down and shoot over him) Either way I think JJ’s been waiting for this game and I hope he goes off!

I will give credit for Woody in getting everyone to play defense and the switch everything set is really effective. Still need to change up the ISO’s for JJ, move it to different sides of the court at least. I hate to nit-pick on a team that is 6 and 0!!!! so I will stop.

Also I must (reluctantly) give Woodson credit, his philosophy is finally paying off.

You know what’s so funny? Hearing Tim Legler on ESPN’s Coast-to-Coast talking about how Atlanta has soooooo many swingment who could change positions and switch on defense, but those were the same people grilling BK for drafting them.

Anyway, props to BEAST Horford and to all of those who have stuck here long enough to see this happen.

Ray and I talk on the phone often. We were talking about Horford before his big game, and the thing I’ve noticed is how often in these first few games he has made a perfect double-team on defense without fouling. I think I’ve seen it in every game so far, where Al leaves his man to double the dribbler, and creates a turnover with his pressure. (Clyde, does S. Wms. do that?) Most bigs that attempt this (other than KG) get called for an easy foul, but I think the refs have figured out how good his hands are.

This is an underrated skill, which takes court awareness, aggressiveness, and quick hands, all of which as we know, he has in spades.

There is no stat that I know of that counts turnovers “caused”, and I’m sure he’s been credited with steals, as have his teammates from this unappreciated “small thing”. Last night I saw at least 2 or 3 tips of loose balls that he kept alive, and the Hawks ultimately won possession. These are the plays that make the difference between 6-0 and 3-3. And he’s arguably made more of them since Josh went down than anyone else on the team.

Beastism.

terrell Really the best way to address your comment about JJ, is to compare him to Kobe when he struggles. Usually when that happens, as great as Kobe is, Phil puts him on the pine without any hesitation and go to plan B. Why can’t we do likewise? Since we have a bench this year, why can’t the game be made easy? The Chicago game should’nt have been close. Their rockie was the only threat. Having said all of that, it is hard to argue with a win. I would rather call this a constructive observation (for now).

Sautee/Ray: I guess folks like BA, Kirk and Steveo believe if they keep accusing me of something I didn’t say it will make it true. I appreciate both of you pointing out that all I’ve said is that I believe Bibby will be traded before the deadline.

I don’t think it’s falling on deaf ears. I can only think that there are a few folks who’d rather attack me than focus on the teams’ early-season success.

Nookah calls out folks “wishin’ that we will collapse”. Who, here, WANTS the Hawks to fail. What a non-sensical statement.

I can only hope that if the Hawks continue to play this well, a handful of folks here will get over trying make differences of opinion personal. It really detracts from both the blog, and what the team is doing.

No one here can claim they’re right, as it relates to how the season will end, or whether Bibby will be here beyond the deadline. So why some of you keep acting like those issues have been settled is beyond me.

Horford’s night was epic. And while it would be unrealistic to expect that kind of performance on a nightly basis (only Dwight Howard puts up those kinds of numbers), it does bring up a question: Is Horford ready to put up bigger numbers than he has (it certainly looks like it)? And is the fact that he hasn’t been related to him deferring to veterans (because he’s clearly a “team” guy, in the best sense of the word).

If it is a matter of deference, then it would seem that it’s on the coaching staff and Horford’s teammates to increase his role on the offensive end, to the additional benefit of the teams’ capabilities.

This kind of night highlights that Horford is ready to be an 18-10+ guy. But he requires the touches. And that’s on the coaches and the backcourt.

The Hawks seem to have skipped a step, in going from a bad road team, to a great one. Usually, that takes a couple of years.

But the confidence and intensity, and team play, are all so optimal right now, that they’re simply playing better than anyone than the Lakers (which I’ve now said 3 or 4 times, even though I’m a hater).

I really am bored with defending myself against personal attacks, that misrepresent my previous opinions. And since it’s the same 3 or 4 people, and, as I pointed out once again, last night, to BA, no one else seems to be jumping on the anti-Ando bandwagon that those few folks continue to try and create, I just need to let it go.

You guys never let the facts get in the way of a good personal attack. I’ve (and guys like Sautee and Ray, in very plain, logical prose, have done the same, to no avail) tried to get you guys to move on. But, in utter irony (you accuse me of being more interested in being right than seeing the Hawks succeed), while I’m posting nothing but due respect for the amazing start of the team, you couple of guys seem more interesting proving me wrong, than talking about basketball.

The personal agenda is blatantly obvious. The underlying reason for the agenda is only known to you.

Still not leaving. Still not going to stop speaking my mind. Still going to enjoy the ride the Hawks are taking the fans on, right now.

BA, feel free to take another shot at twisting my words into some type of anti-Hawks sentiment. That seems to be the only reason your here.

There were two aspects to how the Hawks might fare, going into the season. Some folks have highlighted how off-base the national media, and so local critics (who, me?), were in the pre-season predictions. But if you take a good look at what the ESPN, multi-analyst ratings said, you’d see that the aggregate difference of their opinions had the Hawks in the 7th seed, despite a 9+ place average slot.

Some folks thought it possible that the Hawks could be a .500 team and NOT make the playoffs. There was a lot of differing opinions on the quality of the East this season.

At this time, 9 teams in the East are at .500 or above. Milwaukee was 3-2 before Redd got hurt. Miami and New York are both above .500.

The point is that while the Hawks are clearly on of the top teams in the East, at this early stage, the rest of the EAST actually IS improved, which means the Hawks will have to maintain a high level of performance.

While it looks very likely that these Hawks are going to be well over .500 this year. It’s also true that all the teams in the East, who make the playoffs, will likely be above .500 as well.

The Hawks cannot start to glide, or get a collective big head. They’re winning on intensity, effort and execution. Those are all things that come and go over the long NBA season. As long as the Hawks see themselves as a blue collar team, that needs to outwork its opponents every night, this success should continue.

But if they begin to believe their own hype, and start believing they can win just by showing up, this could turn quick. I don’t think that kind of understanding is lost of Woody, who, if anything, is a blue collar kind of coach.

It’s always interesting to see how a team handles its first taste of success. A lot of folks, around the country, just assumed that the Tampa Bay Rays were going to inevitably flop. They never did, and they’re a really good model for how the Hawks, as a team and an organization, need to proceed in the coming months.

And much props to Sund, bringing in Murray, Evans, Morris and Hunter. As much as anything, those guys are a big difference between this years’ team, and last. He did a lot, with very little money. Which is something he’ll have to continue to do as long as the ASG is funding the team (IMHO).

Does anyone know what the historic winning percentage is, for teams, on the second night of back-to-back road games? I know it’s really low. But I couldn’t find any data.

If the percentage is as low as I think, tonight’s task is statistically unlikely, when you add that it’s the defending world champs the Hawks are playing, and that we don’t have Josh Smith, who, at least during the home games, against the C’s last playoffs, was a huge difference maker.

If the Hawks were to pull of a win, under these circumstances, it would be, arguably, the biggest early season statement in the NBA.

Horford is going to require a major amount of support, from Zaza, Solo and Randmo. They have to both keep Perkins off the boards AND give help on Garnett.

It will be very interesting, given all the back and forth about Bibby here, and his performance against Rondo in last years’ playoffs, to see what kind of intensity he brings. You would think, if he is tuned into public opinion at all (let alone his actual numbers during that series), that he’d be really pumped to put on a great performance.

JJ rarely has multiple bad games in a row, so it stands to reason that he’d be in top form tonight. But Pierce is a rugged defender, and, with no Josh, the C’s can really focus on shutting down JJ, and challenging the Hawks to find another way to beat them.

After the 4 bad road games against the C’s, in the first round, this really will be a defining moment for the transition the Hawks seem to be making.

Ought to be a great watch!

okay…if the hawks win tonight I will be sold…as for Horford’s performance last night….the rebound and block numbers were great…he was excellent on the defensive side of the court….but I dont think he played that GREAT offensively - most of his points were junk points where he was down under the goal and received a long pass on a fast break…props for getting down the floor…but its not like he got 27 pts from getting the ball on the post and taking on defenders to the hoop….he cleaned up boards and got some junk points

and I am soooo sick of Domonique saying “that one may be the dagger” when the hawks go up by 7 or 8 points with 4 or 5 minutes to go in a game….or “if i was a betting, I would bet that the Hawks walk away with a win here”….Nique - wait until the game is over!!!

Ando, as much as you enjoy wearing the black hat or assuming someone is “personally attacking”, I’ll simply offer up another perspective on one of your earlier statements about Horford and his ability to produce more offense with the help of coaches and teammates.

Why? Why do we care if Horford has another monster 27/27/6 night or if he is a pedestrian 10/10/1 kind of player (as he was during the first 5 games of this season). The team won. I think most fans get caught up in individual stats. But does it really matter?

Here’s guessing that teams usually perform within a fairly consistent range across most statistical categories… points, rebounds, assists, TOs, steals, etc. If the Hawks score between 94-98 points 95% of the time (as an illustrative example), then seeing player A score 10 more points than his average is most likely coming from points normally scored by his teammates. In the case of the game last night, clearly there was more scoring across the board as the Hawks scored more as a team than usual (and also gave up quite a bit more on the defensive side).

All of this to return to my initial point. Why do the coaches and/or teammates need to help Horford optimize his talents if the team is enjoying success with the status quo? Dean Smith was able to maximize his team’s performance while preaching a culture of team-first (or deference). Marvin suffers from a bad case of deference… he won an NCAA title. Horford suffers from it… he won 2 NCAA titles. Chill had that problem… he led a top 5 college team in his last year in school. I think guys who experience team success are more willing to “defer”. I’m thrilled that Horford has the ability to step up and help the team by having a Yao/Dwight/Amare type of performance. But more than hoping that we cultivate the individual prowess of a player, I just hope that this team continues to find whatever it is that is required to win a ball game. And if that means that Horford never does that again (but maybe next time it’s a “wow” game from Zaza or Marvin or Bibby) than so be it. Is it good to know that when JJ shoots 25% AND we’re missing Josh, that Horford, Bibby and Evans can step up and lead the team to a road victory? Absolutely. But do I want the coaches or players to take ownership for helping Horford do more? No. I want the coaches and players to take ownership for winning as a team.

Joe, the point that’s worth considering, as it relates to a broadened role for Horford, is can the Hawks be even BETTER in that scenario? It isn’t about his individual stats (not sure what you read that leads you to believe that was my point, but you’ve got a four-year run of reading comprehension deficits, so I can’t say I’m surprised you didn’t understand). If the answer is yes, they can be even better, with Horford taking a more proactive role in the offense, then the point stands. And the only way to find out is to work him into that evolved role, and see how it impacts the team.

BA, you just don’t give up, do you. I’m sure you’ve got it somewhere in your Ando file, but please cut-and-paste any statement I’ve made regarding Murray and Evans being players no other team wanted (if I said it, guilty as charged). Funny, (not funny-ha ha; but more funny-creepy) that you continue to ignore all the points, and pound home your personal attacks. Don’t you want to talk about how great the Hawks are playing. It’s starting to seem pretty obvious that you’d be lost if you didn’t have me to hate. I don’t know the exact math, but I think it’s a safe estimate that over half of your posts are primarily attacks of me. Why do I mean so much to you?

You’re kind of freakin’ me out, dude.

You say it’s about calling me on my negativity, but I haven’t seen you take one shot, at any of the dozens of folks who have maintained an ongoing diatribe on how Woody can’t coach, and shouldn’t have been extended. Ando i agree with I.MUS WRITE you’re like the grim reaper of the blog. everyone’s happy that the hawks are finally winning games. then there you are posting comments that ruins the atmosphere. making people feel anxious because of your predictions. and i think you’re over analyzing. sometimes i’m starting to imagine you holding a calculator computing of our chances to win. and why worry so much about the salary and the stats? don’t you think over analyzing makes the game boring? we’re winning right now so maybe we could stop worrying too much about the future. its destiny men no one can predict on what will happen with this hawk team. if we’re destined to win then we win if not then what the heck there’s always a next game to look forward to. and maybe your calculator tells you that we’ll be eliminated in the first round of the playoffs but destiny tells that we’ll be champions this season.(so much for exageration LOL) anyway stop over analyzing ok? why won’t we all just sit back and relax and enjoy the game? and all of us will be happy.;-)

Joe, I just saw your post again. Too funny, you saying I’m “assuming” someone is attacking me, when both Ray and Sautee have called BA, in the last few days, for doing exactly that. Are you and BA brothers? You use the same incoherent logic, and avoidance of facts, when you defend your personal agendas.

Joe, Ray and I were laughing about you the other day. We were cracking up about how you always wait for folks like BA or Steveo to initiate the attacks on me, now. You’re like the boy in a mob, who’s jumped a single kid, who waits until the kid is on the ground, barely moving and unable to defend himself anymore, who comes up and kicks him a few more times, then acts like he had the guts to take the kid on one on one.

You’re the champ, Joe. That’s all you really want to hear isn’t it? You’re the champ. Feel better now?

I thought the Bulls really played hard on the defensive end. Fortunately Al the Beast Horford was too much for them. Did anyone see Woody try to sub Mario into the game for Joe in the last minute? Joe did not want to come out so Joe did not come out. Mario just stood there not knowing what to do. Way to go Hawks! Glad to hear The Beast mention Smoove back home.

Hey Sekou,……….. Any news on Josh and his recovery? Is he working on his shot with Mark Price or anything of news? Also I’ve been in and out for a while now and I wouldn’t normally defend ANDO, but he never said he wanted him traded. I personalty think he will be if they don’t plan on resigning him. Not against or for this trade it’s just the way they decide to spend their money. And before anyone bores me, I’m well aware of Bibby’s contributions to the team. i think he’s a good point gaurd, I just don’t know if his defensive ability is what Woodson wants in his pg. And his contract relief and getting a young pg back in return(if they have soured on A.C.) would be a good deal.

Wow is right, Horford had a monster game. Observations from game & post here.

First I must say I am no Woody fan ( I use to call him the Undertaker, because he will sap the life out of a player..ie Salim, AC Law…if you are tought you can rebound like Solo & ZaZa).

Woody had to shorten the bench, first we are playing the 3rd game of 4 on the road. He needed to win the game against the Bulls. The game was in the balance, so had to play the starters.

Second, we all can accept a loss against the defending NBA Champs, but not the Bulls. Now we get to go for the crown tonight on this road trip. Take Boston at home on their floor to send a statement. We will need the bench more tonight to help the starters. Boston has now seen ZaZa go off, Horford go off, they have seen Flip go off, Mo & Bibby went off last night, Joe led the league in scoring early, Solo is much improved,& Marvin they know about personnally from the playoff run; now if they want to take us lightly because Josh is out fine. The bench will be their tonight because the last time they saw us we did not have one or was held back by Woody.

Regarding AC Law,he is playing his way off this team. I believe they are holding on to Speedy for a reason ( see Mike Hampton) The guy has lost all confidence already. As mentioned, I hope he still can defend, because he will be needed against Rondo tonight. When Speedy is ready, it will be AC not Bibby that may get dealt away in trade. This is his audition time and he failing at the moment. To keep youth on this team I hope accepts the challenge and performs as he did in summer league.

Inside presence in Horford, wow!!

I spent the better part of last season (in the minority) defending Woodson, ando- Big Ray can vouch for that. Now you people are seeing how effective (in particular defensively) an NBA coach he can be.

And if you don’t read my non-ando stuff, that’s ok. Doesn’t mean it’s not there. I made a number of posts last night that had nothing to do with how wrong you often are.

You summarily dissmissed Astro Joe’s 3:28 post, but he made a valid point. The difference between this team and say, the Chicago Bulls is the scoring balance- with so many guys averaging double-digits it increases Atlanta’s chances to win on a given night when say, Joe Johnson is off.

Sautee/Ray: I guess folks like BA, Kirk and Steveo believe if they keep accusing me of something I didn’t say it will make it true HB Ando

Please do not include me in your Bibby-hatin odyssey. I have not addressed you about it on purpose. When you addressed me, I told you I wasn’t interested in trying to change your mind. Your commentary regarding Bibby is what it is, and no need for me to go there or be invited.

Sautee ” Check the previous blog for an answer to your question. No need to bring the last blog’s business over to this one.

I’m very happy for the Hawks, and I’m happy that more fans are starting to appreciate the play of Bibby.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, Acie isn’t ready yet to be our starting PG. Doesn’t mean he’s a bad player, or without skills. Those who were selling Bibby and buying Acie are now mimicking the trendlines of Wall Street.

I’m happy for the team, I’m happy for Coach Woodson, I’m happy for Rick Sund, and I’m happy for ASG. I believe everyone should share in the credit.

There will be losses. There will be losing streaks. I hope Nookah is wrong and there aren’t people here pining for a Hawks downturn.

Hey Y’all:

I keep telling you the Hawks are for real. The “Shocking of the World is not over. It is just getting started. al Hofford has grown up since last year. In fact all of the Hawks have grown up in basketball maturity and heart. after the Boston series and the ay they played none of them have any fear against any team. They have not lost a game since the playoof last year. And it’s ironic that they play the team that beat them last: The Celtics. However, the Hawks have filled the gaps that made them lose by strengthening their bench. and they believe they are ready for anybody in the NBA. Hofford’s play exemplifies that they back each other up and are unwilling to concede to what they want to achieve which are NBA championships. These guys are young, strong, smart, and fast. They are going to be hell to deal on the basketball court and the Celtic know that. Tonight’s game will be a “litmus test” and a litmus test only to the improvement these Hawks have made, especially with the new players. Yhey mesh in well but their meshing in process is not complete as of yet. Boy, when that happens, all hell is going to break lose in the NBA with the nation and the world seeing a running, gunning, defensive Hawk team. We will miss Josh tonight but I believe one of our other young guns will show up tonight with Hofford. Believe these guys afre no joke they are young veterans. they know how to play. This is going to get scarilly fun and enjoyable to watch. Let’s enjoy these guys become champions before our eyes, one game at a time.

LET’S GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kirk, as me, Sautee and Ray have all asked, “what Bibby-hatin’ oddyssey”? Yet another blogger, SB, has joined the growing legion of posters who are wondering why a few of you continue to misrepresent my position on Bibby.

Again, for what seems like the millionth time, what is confusing about the clear difference between believing Bibby will be traded, prior to the deadline, and calling for him to be traded (which I am not, nor have been, doing)?

Hawkeye, do I have to include you in the small number of people who are obviously not reading my posts since the beginning of the season? Again, I haven’t made a negative post about this team since the regular season started.

So what the heck is all this grim reaper talk? If I’m posting nothing but positive feedback, how am I trying to bring the vibe on the blog down? I’m at a loss for why a couple of people insist on portraying me in an inaccurate light.

Just today, I’ve reiterated how great the team is playing, brought up basketball-only points about the challenge of playing back-to-back road games, compounded by the quality of the opponent, some thoughts on Horford’s role, both moving forward, and in tonights’ matchup, the interesting subplot of Bibby vs. Rondo, after Rondo got the better of him last spring, the need for our centers to support Horford tonight, and the broader perspective of the early season results that support that the East is, in fact, better than last year (9 teams at or above .500).

Yet all a couple of you want to do is continue to sling mud at me, and ignore the facts regarding my posts and my positions, in an ongoing effort to personally attack me (and then dumbass Joe pretends it’s all in my head, despite that fact that multiple posters have come to my defense on the FACTS, including people I’ve never met in my life).

What the hell is wrong with some of you people? Joe says I want to wear the black hat, yet I’ve taken it off 100’s of times, only to have BA, Steveo, Joe and, occasionally, Kirk, perpetually try and super glue it back on. This teams’ best performance, since the blog started, was 4 games under .500. So how is a critical perspective on the franchise unreasonably pessimistic. All I’ve ever said is show me and I’ll believe. That line of logic is good enough to be a state motto.

Can we please talk about the Hawks versus Boston? You seemingly have no interest in the team, other than using it as a basis to continue you to call me out. I’m really not as interesting as you guys find me.

It’s funny that Ray gets a hard time for occasionally posting a defense of me, but guys like BA use over half of their posts to talk about me. I’d say that’s pretty pathetic.

By BA

OK, I’ll bite. The game tonight will be decided in the backcourt. If they can hold Ray Allen in check, and make Boston’s offense a two-dimensional attack, Atlanta has a good chance to steal one up there. If Johnson shakes off last night and Bibby can be an effective distributor (especially if he isn’t shooting well) it will go a long way towards winning. The frontcourt battle will almost certainly be something to watch for, but ultimately I think it will be a (scoring) draw.

Will they stay with Marvin Williams on Pierce? Can Evans control Pierce? Will they put Pierce on JJ?

Is it 7:30 yet?!

  1. Isn’t winning fun?
  2. Who are these guys?
  3. And what have they done with the Atlanta Hawks?

By Astro Joe

Ando, I said “Horford and his ability to produce more offense with the help of coaches and teammates”.

You said “If it is a matter of deference, then it would seem that it’s on the coaching staff and Horford’s teammates to increase his role on the offensive end, to the additional benefit of the teams’ capabilities”.

Huge difference, huh?

I can say with angels on my shoulder that I don’t bother to read the banter between you and BA. Nor you and Samuel. Once the truly personal attacks started (didn’t someone question someone’s ability to teach kids or parenting skills?) I started skipping that nonsense.

If you and Ray were discussing some notion that “I wait for others to attack you”, then.. well… hmmm. Never mind. Some paranoid delusions need not be addressed, regardless of who shares them.

Bottom line, the team is undefeated. Playing extremely well. In life, timing is everything. Asking the Hawks to test new offensive schemes now feels like asking the Titans to improve their run defense. Or Florida to score more against UGA. It just all feels ill-timed, pointless and useless. Not a personal attack, just my humble little opinion.

Oh yeah, and stop offering up opinions (more offense through Horford could help the team) and then act like the only way to challenge you is through facts. Your opinion is no more valauble than the opinion of anyone else here. And all our PCs can access the same websites, stat sheets and box scores as your machine.

Ultimately, your attempts to prove to be “beyond reproach” will continue to fail. It doesn’t mean that your opinion isn’t valued… it is. But if someone has a different perspective, don’t treat it like it’s some kind of felony assault. It isn’t. It’s a blog.

BA I think if the frontcourt plays to a scoring draw I think we will win the game. I think JJ will be back to somewhere around is average 25ppp and Bibby will somewhat redeem himself for the awfult playoff performance.

I think this will be the game we miss Josh the most because of the defense he plays on KG. I’m really interested to see who gets the assigment of guarding KG tonight. I actually would like to see Solo get some time on him as I think Solo is long and athletic enough to give him trouble.

There are others, not you..others, who are now walking back their comments on Bibby, or hedging their bets.

I pointed out that during the offseason my defense of Bibby and his value to this team drew laughter and derision. Not only was my estimation of Bibby too high, but also his utility for this team was limited. Acie was the superior talent I was told.

“The Bibby bandwagon is not such a lonely place now”, I said.

Since I am an unreconstructed Bibby fan I would like to say state that he will not win every match up this season.

However,he will know what to do and when to do it in order for the Hawks to win.

Some say that the salary some other team decided they would pay him is how we should see him now. I disagree. I believe the barometer, as I’ve stated before, is are the Hawks winning? Is this team improved with Bibby at the helm?

I answer in the affirmative. Others desire to state their answers in the conditional, or equivocal.

We no longer have people calling for Acie to be handed the reins. Or am I mistaken? Anyone still calling for that switch?

On a side note, I would like to thank Josh Childress for taking the money and running. I’m not sure that we would have the bench we now have if he hadn’t gone rogue.

Far from the catastrophe that so many predicted, the correct moves were made this offseason and we see what this team is capable of as constructed. Thanks Josh.

Speaking of basketball…

Woody gets kudos for the Chicago game because it is one of his nemesis teams. No matter how Chicago played in the past, they almost always have his number. Charlotte is similar. Maybe the new coaching staffs in those towns will play to his advantage.

He needs some kind of plan for the back to backs. There are 4 more this month after tonight. Maybe he was saving RandMo for extra playing time tonight ;-)

This is clearly a bigger game for the Hawks, but it will be fun to go up there and show the old farts that there are some new young guns that are ready to challenge. All that said, Josh provides an easy excuse. But I don’t want no stinking excuses, I want a WIN.

interesting fact in the usa today concerning our hawks …. what team has the longest streak of years without a .500 record. yup our hawks who last did it in the strike season 9 years ago followed by the knicks at 7 years and the bucks and the bobcats at four.

just talked to ando, who assured me with the start this team has had and the way they are playing they will finish with over 41 wins. it is a long season guys, save the i told you so’s for the end of the 82 games not when the season is less than 10% over. who talks about fools is the fool.

what is so exciting as i have said before are the things that so many of us pointed out as necessary and needed correction have thus far been shorn up i.e. better bench, more money spent by owners, woody coaching to the situation, marvin shooting the three and diving into the basket, smith continuing to soar, jj needing less of iso joe, bibby getting his touch back to compliment his wonderful passing skills, horford being fed in the middle, zaza cotinuing to show intensity rather than a flop ……. etc., has come to pass. the only short fall is acie and whether in THE END chills wouldnt have fit in to make this team even more of a monster. we ALL can see that if this team has no injuries and continues to gel internally it could be a special team just like the falcons. we can all rejoice that and be grateful or spiteful …. YOUR CHOICE. at the start of the season we were al optimists as even the darkest of predictions were to improve over last year. as a voice of restraint the blazers won 17 straight last year and finished at 41 or 42 wins.

bout game time.

51-51, so far so good.

Solid though unspectacular night so far from Bibby.

(I see those who hold themselves in high esteem have now weighed in. Yawn.)

Let’s hope for better rebounding and a win.

Not good. We lost Zaza. Geez, the injury bug. I hope it’s a short term thing. However, this is a wonderful opportunity (perhaps wonderful is not the right word) for Solo, RandMo, and Hunter.

I knew the Celtics would make a run, but I’m still happy with what I saw in the 1st half. 51-51 at halftime without Josh Smith and basically without Al Horford. I’ll take that. Solo has impressed me. Zaza looks pretty good. Flip is still ballin. Marvin is drilling 3’s. Woody is using his bench. It’s all good in Hawksville right now. And oh yeah, remember when everyone was hollering how much we needed bigs? All of a sudden we look pretty good at the Center and PF positions. Now lets do our thing in the 2nd half. Win or lose, this team is legit.
