Fresh out!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
CHARLOTTE - I’m all out of talking points where the Hawks are concerned.
Fresh out.
The only thing that tells us anything from tonight until April 16, when this season wraps up in, of all places, Miami, is wins and losses.
Rather than debating the merits of this or that, I’m going to let the Hawks show and prove that they are indeed worthy of a playoff berth or prove that they’re not.
Instead of debating about the merits of Mike Woodson’s coaching ability, we’re going to find out between now and April 16 if he has the chops to get this team united and focused on the singular goal of making the playoffs.
Instead of debating whether or not the Hawks have the parts necessary to get the job done, we’re going to find out when they run into teams that they’re in direct competition with for that playoff spot and see if they’ve got what it takes to win their way in.
Instead of debating who should and should not be voted off Hawksville Island for past sins, I’m going to let the expiring contract grim reaper do his thing come June 30, the day of reckoning for the Hawks’ entire basketball operations crew.
And instead of thinking tirelessly about what might have been with Chris Paul (watching the dude work the Hawks is even more painful when I think about how many people warned me - and presumably others - about the perils of passing the “next Isiah” up in that 2005 draft), I’m going to let it go, finally, and move on. Well, I’m going to do my best (and for the record, while I loved the upside of Marvin Williams and didn’t think it was a bad pick, provided the Hawks acquire a quality point guard via trade or free agency, if you remember back to this blog during the pre-draft period my pick was the other Williams, Deron).
All the answers to all of our questions will come within these next 22 games (and 51.9 seconds).

I guess that pretty much wraps up the blog for the season then. Thanks Sekou. I presume the new topic will be Rich Rodriguez or NBA sight seeing. Ha.

Here are a few topics for the self-proclaimed geniuses who post here on a regular basis:
Discuss how Joe Johnson is a legit All-Star
Talk about how Josh Smith is an “untouchable” player who you can build a franchise around
Debate whether or not Mike Bibby will be a unanimous selection when he enters the Hall of Fame on the first ballot
Bonus topic: Make asinine comparisons between the coaching styles of Mike Woodson and Greg Knapp
Ready. Set. Go!

We need a New Coach. We need a Real Center. Marvin is growing up, leave him alone. Bibby is Great. Smith and Al are Great. Joe is somewhat inconsistient and gets tired too quickly. The others, I do not know about them, nobody does. We are mostly young and we do not need to throw in the towel, even if this year does not get us to the playoffs. Frankly, we are not ready to win a round now. But, we are ever so close. Did I say we need a Coach? A Center?

Well first of all, its really a shameful thing if your team is more than 10 games under 500 and hoping they make it to the playoffs…FOR FREAKIN WHAT???!!!!
Like someone said in the blog earlier, these guys are totally healthy and probably the most athletic team in the East, but they dont play defense. They dont know how to play as a team on offense either.
And having a coach without a clipboard or drawing board who management refuses to let walk aint helping either.

Sekou,
THe hawks can’t outplay the bad coaching of Mike Woodson. Its time to get rid of Mike if want to do more than just go to the playoffs and get beat in the 1st round. Mike Woodson is guilty of consistently putting the wrong players on the floor, not putting the ball in the player with the hot hand, and calling bad timeouts messing up the flow of the games and not to forget standing up the wholegame looking stupid! Please wake up and fire diss sorry excuse of a so called basketball coach we are better off getting a high school coach to lead this team!!!!

Wooe!
It feels like a funeral procession on here. It’s raining outside and the long line of hearses all have their headlamps on - nice and bright (high-beams no doubt). Now we should all pull over and pause on the shoulder of the road while the cars roll by. It’s the right thing to do - we call that good ole’ SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY.
If I had a shovel, I would put the first pile of dirt on this team and bury this team alive. They play defense like dead people (No Effort Whatsoever)
For all you transplants from up north. That’s how we do it the DIRTY - SOUTH We open doors for people, we let people pull over in our lanes, we smile and say friendly hellos when we bump into each other.
So why don’t those people over there at Phillips Arena be polite as well!
AND GIVE US A WINNER! WE DESERVE - TO HAVE A WINNER IN THIS TOWN!

Did someone mention Rich Rod?
Seriously, I’ve been trying to scale back my discussion of Michigan football and some of my other passions in favor of straight talk about the Hawks. But we’ve been doing the deja vu dance around here of late.
How many different ways can we debate these same topics. Sooner or later the Hawks are going to have to either put up or shut up.
Win or go home.
And all those other catch phrases/cliches that get tossed around this time of year.
By no means is the blog scaling back. But today is the first day of the final quarter of the season. And it’s do or die time for the Hawks (there’s another one of those goofy phrases).
At some point the chatter has to stop and the winning (or losing) becomes the deal. I’m just ready to see what happens.

The Hawks are really confusing at times, sumtimz we look like world beaters (win over dallas) and other times we look like we’ve been beat with a stick(loss to the clippers)………
One things for sure Coach X has to be relieved of his duties at seasons end-period!!!!! We will neva and i do mean neva go anywhere while he is here. JJ is on the bubble as far as ALL Stars go but I think he is a bad fit for our club………. Jumper after jumper-you cant win like that……… How many timez this year has he shook a guy off the dribble and finished at the rim…. everything is a floater or …..jumper
Playoffs !!! Why ? So we can win maybe one game and have Dufus X rewarded with a new contract…… I’ll pass
Josh Smith- Although I wanna see him here next year -I also want him to improve. Good: he is a great help defender, plays with emotion/energy,nice moves around the rim BAD; He turns the ball over alot, not a good position defender,Jumper is suspect at best,Below average handles
Comparing the good and bad -i dont know if Josh is worth max money,he has some holes in his game, but is that a result of tryn to do too much or lack of discipline and coaching. Well either way we will have to make a decision soon because other teams really want him bad.

I’m not sure what the Hawks should do…Should they try and make the playoffs b/c they havent been there in 8 seasons just to get swept by Boston and get embarrassed or do they not make it just to get embarrassed anyway b/c this is a weak conference..Um?? What do the Hawks do??

Do have some questions though regarding Acie’s health. Bibby’s impression of coach Deadwood’s “offense”/team (off the record, deep background if need be)? Do the asst coaches ever have anything to say publicly?

Eight things I don’t want to see tonight while watching the Hawks on the tube.
1) Josh Smith getting a rebound and going coast to coast only to kick or pass it out of bounds when he gets to the basket. 2) Joe Johnson dribbling for 22 seconds and then passing to a stationary Hawk for a missed three point shot. 3) Salim attempting to dribble between two defenders only to trip, fall and turn the ball over. 4)The Sprite “I’m falling away” commercial- where the court turns into a swimming pool. 5)The Philips Electronics commercial where the guy becomes a father after shaving. 6)Marvin “The Magician” Williams and his disappearing act after the first quarter. 7)Zaza Pachulia 8)Joe Johnson, sees the double team coming, continues to dribble until trapped and then passes the ball to an opposing player.

Sekou and the others;check out this piece on cnnsi.com:
Timeless answers from Joe Johnson 2. Can he be a leader? The recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution report that Hawks ownership prevented GM Billy Knight from firing coach Mike Woodson has put more pressure on the All-Star guard to provide leadership, and to salvage something for an organization that appears to be on the verge of wholesale changes this offseason. Johnson is a quiet personality, but during All-Star weekend I asked if he’s raised his voice more often this season.
“I have to be built up to a certain level,” he said. “I’ve had a few times where I’ve lost my cool a little bit, but other than that I’m pretty much mellow. I say how things should be, and I give guys insight here and there by telling them some of the things they’re doing wrong and doing right. Little things.”
“A lot of times, young guys may not know the significance of making the playoffs,” he said, “and if you’ve never been to the playoffs, then you may not even care.”
“You really can’t explain it to them. But you try to give them a little insight and let them know how it is, how the crowds are. We haven’t had a lot of big crowds. But if we made the playoffs, it would probably be a packed house every night.”
In which case the entire franchise might earn respect. “And that would help everybody out,” Johnson said. “Winning cures a lot of things.”
Are the Hawks mature enough to win? If their own All-Star calls them out and they don’t respond for the rest of the stretch run, is that really on the coach, or do some of these immature players (like Josh Smith) need to hit the road?
I don’t care how athletic he is, if a player is too stupid to figure out how to play the game with any kind of basketball IQ then go join the AND 1 Tour and bring in some players who know what it takes to WIN.
Discuss among yourselves……

The Joker has tried to give us all a head fake by changing his name to Da Perfesser. He might have faked himself out. Either way, his posts remain the same: clueless, useless, monotonous, and misspelled. Apparently,”Hooked on Phonics” doesn’t work for everybody…
Mike Woodson was seen working out by himself in the gym yesterday. It was a strange sight. Apparently his routine consists of 10 minutes of standing stock still with his arms folded and scowling as hard as possible, then 2 minutes of yelling inarticulately and gesticulating wildly. The only words that could be deciphered from his yelling were “get back, get back”. We’ll assume he meant “on defense.” On occasion, he changed his arms-folded stance to arms folded with mouth partly open. We can only assume that this is how he prepares to handle each 12 minute quarter of basketball….
Billy Knight was seen trying to be incognito at an out-of-the-way barbershop. Apparently he had his afro shaved off. Sources speculate that Billy thinks that shaving off his afro will make him unrecognizable. And since the ASG is a pile of morons anyway, they’ll not recognize him and he can stay on the payroll…
And that’s all for now.

Dang, DarkRyder, tell us how you really feel.
AJ, that was funny. As we know, swagger doesn’t even fit into it.
Guys, I love Josh Smith. But you must prepare yourself for a divorce, because it could happen. Not because it should, not because it must. But because the organization is in turmoil. We might have people in management that know what to do in this situation and how to do it. Or we might not. In either case, does ownership let them do it? Recent information suggests that we can’t rely on this. Everything that isn’t locked down in contract after the season is over is literally up in the air. And even that which is under contract is questionable…

Big Men Solutions Abound in Draft
Hawks have to identify which player to move to get one of the premier bigs coming out this year.
From 7’3 Thabeet to Lopez to Hardin, there are big man solutions for the Hawks if they have the wisdom to get them.
Marvin or Chills or Smoove could easily fetch a 1st round lottery pick. And their or quality bigs late in the lottery, so you have options.
Whether its KG, Duncan or Chandler, they just arent big enough or tough enough.
Get Hibbert, get Lopez, get Jordan, get bigger and tougher. Horford is a beast, but he’s overmatched nightly. At PF, he would cause the mismatch.
Get a 7’0+ center with good legs, move Horford to PF, Smoove to SF and kiss Marvin or Chills or both goodbye.
I’m sure Seattle would rather have their native son, Marvin, rather than another pick.

I’m no shrink, but I don’t see this bad attitude everyone else seems to see in Josh Smith. If anything, I would think he’s p** off that he has a stupid coach that can’t make the game easier for him and his teammates and who holds them back from winning more games. And you can’t really blame him for feeling that way. I certainly don’t see him as the kind of guy who “doesn’t care about winning” like so many other athletes. He reminds me more of, well, Michael Vick from 2005-06 actually — an unbelievable talent who was unbelievably frustrated at his coaching staff’s unbelievable stupidity.

I agree with the guy who typed his email address where his name is supposed to go — I think it’s very likely the Hawks trade Marvin or Childress (preferably Duck) in the offseason for a draft pick. Probably won’t be able to get a top 10, but one in the 10-15 range wouldn’t be that unlikely. Of course it would be pretty ironic if they end up trading someone to Phoenix in exchange for their own lottery pick.
Not a big fan of Hibbert or Lopez, they are both too slow. I like Thabeet’s athleticism, although he’s pretty raw and this coaching staff wouldn’t be able to develop his offensive game… he probably becomes Sam Dalembert if he ends up here. Same with DeAndre Jordan, although I really haven’t seen enough of him to be sure one way or another.

When is the upside to Marvin Williams going to go UP? This is his 3rd year in the league. We shoulda seen the “Upside” by now.
I don’t want the Hawks to make playoffs. What good will come from it? They will get swept in 4 games. Woody and Knight would be able to use that to justify them gettin’ a new contract.
Don’t make playoffs, get coaches fired and bring in someone to fix this mess.

Season is lost…plain and simple. Atl will lose tonight, they will lose the game against Miami (the only team Miami can beat)…and I wouldn’t be surprised if ATL finds a way to lose those 51.9 seconds either. But ATL may still find a way to win 35 or 36 games…and some fools will say…”They’re still improving…the win totals keep rising”.
Yeah, by the time we reach 2013, ATL may finish at .500! Man do I love to hate this organization.
I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone that can leave, does. Why would they want to stay? Josh Smith, as much as he loves the “city” of Atlanta, is probably hoping someone signs him to a max deal this off-season…1) he knows the ASG will not match it and 2) he wonders what it would be like to play for a winning team that has fans in the stands every night. What a mess these morons (ASG, BK, Woodson) have created down here. What a mess! Phoenix will certainly reap the benefits, that’s for sure.

The problem for Josh Smith is that “good playoff/winning teams” might have a problem signing him to a max deal. Most teams that are in the playoffs are not under the cap. He could probably sign a max deal with another bottom feeder like the Hawks, but why not just stay?
The Hawks have the leverage right now. They can resign Josh or use him in a sign & trade. I really like Josh Smith & want the Hawks to resign him, but, if they can trade him for a good center & outside shooter that is not a bad alternative.
I hate the draft mistakes that Billy has made, but we do have plenty of trade assets with the Joshes, Marvin, Joe & Bibby. A competent GM will be able to turn those assets into a legitimate playoff team. All we need is a competent GM. A competent coach would be nice too. Hopefully we get both this offseason.

Is this now the Chicken Little Blog?
We all know that the sky is falling, but I think we can handle it.
In an attempt to chat in a different direction, who came up with the cheap eats before the game on Saturday? Kudos to someone in marketing. At least it is an idea to get folks in the arena before the first game of the doubleheader.
Given that the Hawks have open roster slots and the NBA brain trust has decided everyone can play, why wasn’t there a fan contest. Be on the team for 51.9 seconds! Either give or bid it away. Be a Hawk for a minute—we’ll throw in 8.1 seconds of celebration or shame!
What’s Speedy doing these days? Is he rehabbing…waiting it out, talking to surgeons, other? If he’s on the road with the team, he can chat with Sean May about his microfracture surgery.
How’s Alton Lister’s 1st year been with the Hawks? He still doesn’t have one of those links on the website like the other coaches. What’s up with that?
If we held a mid-level exception lottery, how much cash would you bloggers put on your pick to actually come here? There are always, let’s get __ comments. Do you really believe what you write or are you just throwing spaghetti on the blog wall to see what sticks?

Good points Nate Archiball, maybe someone inside the Dis-Spirited group can take heed.
Althought some of the recent posts belong on the Falcons blog, a small consensus seems to forming around the value of one Marvin Williams: he should not be a starter on this team based upon his game or lack thereof.
I concur and submit the following line up ,to at least end the reign of the current coach: Bibby,JJ,JSmooth,Al and Solo. Speed ; more size and much, much better interior defense.
ZaZa is through(except in the current coach’s eyes, who always seems to forgive his “lapses” but carries eternal grudges against everyone else).
But it does appear that the players are already gone fishing, to paraphrase Kenny and Charles.

i just don’t get how some of the people can comment that we have all this talent and so-and-so is an all star…the hawks can’t make the playoffs in the east!!!
what else needs to be said, its that simple…ok maybe a few more
josh smith = shaun marion 2.0 (not a compliment…can you name ANY games he came through in the clutch…me neither) jj = NO ALL STAR…he is a good wing player but is not your alpha dog you need to win marvin = soft and will be a better version of kwame brown (had all the gifts, but just doesn’t get it done) josh childress = poor man’s version of scottie pippen (and this is a compliment, i truly hope a play-off team signs him as his talents are wasted on this bad team…he needs to be a winning team for his potential to come through) bibby = the nba has passed him by, with the change of the hand checking rule, shoot first point guards who can not give good passes have no value anymore (see starbury) al horford - STUD (build around him and childress and trade everything else to get cap room, picks, and players on the rise)
joe for hawks GM in 2008…YES WE CAN (i know i stole a simmons joke, but who cares if you were an all star when you played, bill K sucks as a GM)

Hawks’ good fortune with Al Horford, sets a new standard for rookies. A great one can contribute immediately.
Funny, how early on, we thought Horford just outplayed Shelden and ZaZa, but in effect, he may have cost Marvin his job too.
Horford is one of those rare players who wont let you take him off the floor. He brings so much to the game that you can justify it. Marvin doesnt do that, half the time you dont know if he is out there, and the other half, you hope he isnt.
Marvin would be a senior this year, which is also his first full season without extended injury. But #2 picks have high expectations and he hasnt produced. He may be turning the corner however, thats the risk?
Nevertheless, he may have more value as tradebait, rather than corner-stone of the franchise. I dont think he has the skill set to become the superstar we envisioned two years ago.
He’s still 2-3 years away from that, much like Travis Outlaw, a project that took 5 years to get it together.
Would Seattle give a #4 for their native son? Marvin, Durant, make a helluva wing team.
And is there a 7’ft. Horford out there? Or do they all look like men amongst boys?

As I read somewhere recently, its as simple as saying, 1s and 5s get you a championship. Why don’t we see that happening in Atlanta?
Hey, if Woody left today to go to Indiana (please!), would we really miss his strategy? Couldn’t the team save money by just putting its own substitutions in? We aren’t far from that now. Let one of the owners go out there and put themselves in the spotlight and let them hear what we have been screaming about for over 3 years: we need a coach!

At best they are both second option. After we let them go we need to go back to rebuilding and luckly draft a superstar, we cant win like this guys. We need to rebuild around horford and the draft pick, everyone else can go.

**2 years ago on this blog I stated I will not renew season tickets until the ASG and Billy Knight are gone!!!
Thankfully on June 30th Billy and Woody will be gone, but that is not enough!!!
ASG I will not give you a nickel of my money, when people offer me tickets I will turn them down. I will no longer go to see guys like Kobe and Lebron, because I don’t want people to even think I’m there supporting your dumb ssess!!*

Smartguy im glad you feel where im coming from. If this team does not come out with some freaking fire and heart tonight then it will pretty much tell me they dont care anymore. I want to see guys out there hustling and diving for loose balls. The playoffs are up for grabs and I have only seen 3 players who are out there acting as if this season still matters to them. As Mike Vick once said ” sometimes you have to overcome coaching”. And right now is the perfect time to overcome this terrible coaching.

Shop Marvin,ZAZA, and possibly JJ. For the right player or players I would do a sign and trade for Josh……. Tyger- Marvin has’nt really panned out as far as #2’s go but it could have been alot worse.

cp, I know why you compare Woodson with Knapp. I actually think it’s a good comparison. But my dislike for the Mora coaching regime for how they squandered the last two years of Vick’s career forces me to disagree. Am I biased? Hell yeah I am. Mora, Knapp and Donatell to me set the standard for coaching stupidity, and it will take a long time for me to come around to putting someone else in the pantheon of coaching idiots next to them, as inept as Woodson is.

Downsides : Marvin Williams- Takes too many damn shots by being a ball hog (i.e. 8-25 friggin shots).
Josh Smith- Our MVP in Turnovers! -_-
JJ- Has like the longest shooting slumps in the league.
Our Coach blames it ALL on the players, never saying its HIS fault.
The GM who thinks only the NCAA Champions has talent when its really the player not the entire college team…
And last the Owners who know nothing about basketball…

Ray, man you’re 1:54 post was off the chain. Keep it up and saturday night live will be calling to offer you a position as a sketch writer.
Doc, I also viewed the poll results and got a good laugh as to how many hawks fans are so clueless. Maybe we should try and peddle some snake oil outside phillips. lol.
Myk, glad someone else finally read the article by sekou on cbs sportsline. I posted the info yesterday but got no feedback from anyone else. Marvin sounded pretty defiant when asked about the comparisons to paul. Duck stated emphatically that he just wanted people to let it go but that ain’t happening unless he raises his game to another level. I thought Sekou took the gloves off in that article and was a lot more critical than he would be in an AJC piece.

Well Najeh now that you put it that way I can clear;y see why you feel the way you do lmao. I can’t lie, Mora was not great but it was more of his loyalty to his dumb assistants that angered me more than anything. With Woodson I kind of feel that the assistants might actually be better. Wasn’t it one of the assistants that came up with a game plan to slow Dwight Howard in a game earlier in the year that we won? Im pretty sure im right on this and if I am hell Woodson should have been replaced by that assistant a long time ago. The assistant actually had a gameplan and it worked out great. I have to see a gameplan by Woody other than give the ball to JJ and nobody move around just stand still and look silly.Once again if I see no heart, hustle, and desire tonight against the Bobcats then I am done with this team.

Sekou and fellow hawks comment posters - following this season through the internet and the radio streams from Australia, like all of you I had huge (and seemingly now) misplaced hopes for this season.
At this stage is it worth making the playoffs and getting swept 3 zip in the first round by K Garnet and crew just to say we’re back? Albeit briefly and unceremoniously?
I know it’s the pinacle of a season and for us all too many long years in a drought - trust me, living in Australia I know all about drought.
But what are your thoughts on this as I don’t want us to be a team of could have beens, but by the same token I don’t want us to be blown off the face of the planet come April and the post season.

roan, yeah i didnt bring it forward because i dont think i am clever enough to impose that on folks but it really says something about the lack of insight into this franchise by the ordinary or as the owner himself says unsophisticated fans of the hawks are. i havent gone back to see any further results or to find out if the clueless staff at ajc had pulled the preposterous poll they ran. sad to think that the journal that you put faith in cant get something like that right either. i know blog z has nothing to do with them now.

Ironically, the only reason there is anything to talk about in Mid-March is that most of the rest of the NBA Least’s teams are so bad they have come back to the Squawks. If the Hawks were playing in the Western Conference they probably wouldn’t have 15 wins by now.

Im not feeling good about this game right now for plenty of reasons. The Bobcats were struggling to make their shots (were shooting 27% at one point) and we could not go ahead and put them away. Even if we somehow keep this lead going into the third quarter it is a possibility we will have yet another third quarter meltdown. Josh Smith is a very good young player but it seems lately his decision making has gotten worse than it has been in a very long time. I really wish someone would sit down with the kid and talk to him about shot selection and trying to make difficult passes and better yet rushing his so called hook shot. This team has too much talent (on paper) to be strugglig against a team like the Bobcats. When a team is shooting as poor as they were you have to put them away.

Another blown lead by the Hawks. Well since we dont have the lead going into the 3rd quarter we might actually play better from behind than being in the lead but the Hawks being the Hawks it might not even matter tonight. Is it me or does this team allows the most runs by their opponents than any other team in the NBA.

It’s not his fault. It’s not the fault of the players that d******* let there kids base their whole perspective around this b****** and that people pay thousands of dollars for their entertainment.

This team is done. I think they quit on woody and dont have any desire to make it to the playoffs. For all we know their throwing away the season just to insure that woody gets fired. Thats the only logical reason i have cause how can you not get up in the bobcats grill and play defense on them. The bobcats are raping JJ and whoever else touches the ball and the hawks on d just let them shoot wide open 3s. I think they are mailing in this season.

The Hawks are done……this team comes completely unglued with each passing day, the more pressure to perform and respond to adversity the worse this team becomes…….we got Bibby and teams started playing us a lot more agressively, and we actually look worse…….Josh Smith and Marvin Williams are playing the most inconsistent ball as I have ever seen for 2 guys starting concurrently for the same team. When this team is called to come up with a big win, they come up with a big FLOP. Mike Woodson has done NOTHING to shake up his lineup at all this yr……sit Marvin….sit Josh……hell he could have even brought JJ off of the bench to light a fire in these guys azzes…..I will give BK a little credit for bringing in Bibby and wanting to fire Woodson……but he is has some culpability for this mess too. The only guy in the starting lineup with any sort of fire for the game night in and out is Horford……he should not only be the ROY, he is also the MVP for the team! p.s. a 18 freakin point lead for Charlotte……..and we are watching these guys talking about winning some games to make the playoffs???? We would have better luck playing the lottery!

At least if the Hawks are gonna lose, they should make it entertaining. Like maybe Zaza coming in and punching Okafor in the face and starting a bench-clearing brawl. Something to make the game worth watching, maybe make Sportscenter or something. It’s one thing to lose, another thing entirely to be boring and lose.

Congratulations Woody. You have sealed your fate with an exclamation point tonight!
Over the last month, the Hawks have played defense like a mediocre ABA team… and this with a defensive specialist coach? Yeah, right.
I commend Steve Smith on tv for biting his lip for the last month… it must be extremely difficult.

The fat lady has just released her greatest hits album. THIS TEAM IS DONE.. You would think that the Hawks would know how to defend the 3 point shot seeing how they have given up what seems like 200 of them the last few games but I guess im wrong. Horford seems like the only player out there tonight with some type of urgency and heart. I would say at least we can look foward to the draft but we dont have any picks. Well I wonder who Phoenix will take with our pick. Nice game by our number 2 pick tonight. Nice game by our so called go to guy. JJ will ask for a trade this summer. It is no way this guy wants to continue playing for this team . Josh Smith will ask the team not to match any contract offer he gets so he will be gone. Well I guess we will be rebuilding again. What year in this rebuilding stage are we in now because it feels like forever. Seeing how the basketball Gods hate us right now we might even lose two games tmw to the Heat. In the end it wont matter because this broke spirit group will do nothing to fix it.

Boy Was I Wrong
I figured if I would get away from the Hawks by going to Rio for a week things would change. But as soon as I get back I’m greeted by another a$$ whippin’. Same players, same rotations, same plays, same coach = another loss for the clueless Hawks. I should be more upset than I am but I had such a good time in Rio I really don’t care.
Matter of fact bump the Hawks. Rio is such a beauiful city to visit. When you go make sure you see the wonderful Corcovado (Christ Statue). It offers the most amazing airial view of a city I have ever seen. Even better than the Tour Eiffel. Also make sure you go to Sugar Loaf and the Samba Open Air Parade. But my favorites are Club Help, the Meia Pataca, and 4 by 4. They have the most beautifullest women in the world. Don’t bring your girl with you to Rio. Please.
But back to the Hawks. Right now they are a lost cause. A lost cause with nothing to look foward to. At the beginning of the season I told yall playoff teams play their best in March and April. Those win streaks in November and Decenmber were just flukes.

I am so frustrated I could cry! I think it is so DAMN UNFAIR that the Hawks owners will NOT GET KID OF MIKE WOODSON. During the game tonight I was so sick until I would close my eyes each time they showed Mike woodson’s face. I am sick of him, his cooaching, his lame rotation, his inability to motivate the players and his baggy suits. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I think the owners have showed the fans that they do NOT give a SH*T about our opinions. I urge we protest the remaining games…Hit the owners in their pockets.. Maybe then we can at least get a breath of fresh air for a coach. It is so sad that we ALWAYS LOOK SO UNPREPARED TO PLAY AND CANNOT MAKE ADJUSTMENTS. As I often say, it is not a racial move because I too am a brother, but my brother Mike Woodson is a horrible coach!

I might be wrong, but I don’t think I am…
I have noticed over the last 30-40 games and especially the last 15-20 games, Josh Smith has been extremely frustrated with coach Woodson. His facial expressions and manor isms towards Woody have been very telling.
Woody has lost this team.
This team is dead. They have been playing HORRIBLE defense. They are out of gas because their coach refused to play the bench players for the bulk of the season, which was supposed to be a strength… yeah, right.

I know its obvious FIRE MIKE WOODSON, Got Dam It. However, for a team in the “playoff hunt,” I still think the players should have enough pride to play hard with some heart and give it all they got. All I saw tonight was the typical lackluster, no hustle, no energy, no effort, no sense of urgency play from this pathetic team. I dont know who came up with the idea that the Hawks are a “talented” and “athletic” team, but it sure seems that we’re always much slower on Defense and teams just penetrate with ease and get wide-open, uncontested 3’s. Josh Smith was horrible tonight. I just didnt see the usual fire in him tonight. His defense was lazy and he just played off his man way too much and gave up to many uncontested jump shots. Not to mention, his usual turnovers on Offense. Also, I’m done with JJ. He couldnt beat Matt Carroll tonight, and he’s supposed to be our go-to-guy? I’m sick of his turnovers, which are usually caused because he gets himself trapped in double teams instead of passing to the open man quickly. What makes things worse is his defense is just LAZY. He doesnt get back on D at all and let’s his man get wide open shots. Also, I didnt like the fact that we were down big with around 3 mins left and he just dribbled down and took his sweet time. WTF. We will never be successful with JJ as our go-to-guy. As far as I’m concerned, keep Horford and trade everyone else for a real center and build from there. I’m thru with this SORRY A$S ORGANIZATION.

Najeh I really hope his state case gets thrown out and he is allowed in the drug treatment program. If the Falcons take Ryan it will be another dumb move that I just cant take right now. The Hawks suck. The Thrashers suck. The Falcons will probably suck. The Braves will probably be a good team but not make the playoffs. Has any other city had a run this bad when it comes to their pro teams? I really have nothing to look foward to sports wise anymore. Mike Knapp has shown me he is better suited as an assistant or a cook at Varsity but seeing all he does is fold his arms he might burn the food. I’m glad DWilkins is focusing on Woodson’s obcession with playing certain players too many mins. He politely acknowledged that Woodson has to find ways to play SJones, SStaudamire, MWest, Zaza and Richardson more mins. He’s killing JJ, Bibby, JSmith and Horford with too many mins, especially in back to back gms.
One post gm announcer asked Woodson about the excessive mins our starters are being played. Woodson’s responded by saying that shouldn’t be an issue. He said this should be a time for having fun. What fool thinks being exhausted and frustrated is fun.

Woodson is just horrible. He has taken a very talented team and mismanaged it to the point of disfunction. Now, the wheels are coming off. It’s so funny to remember how excited everyone was the day of the Bibby trade.
Oh, and remember, Josh Smith will never be a winner no matter where he goes or who he plays for. What a waste of talent. The guy doesn’t understand the first thing about what it means to be a winner.

I hate to say it, but the Hawks level of play has gotten worse since the Bibby trade. So far, Bibby hasn’t done much more than T-Lue and Anthony Johnson. I thought Bibby could shoot - 2-7, 5-14, 4-11, 4-15 in 4 of the last 5 games - ugly.
At least AJ had some defensive intensity and some attitude. T-Lue could be counted on for clutch shooting.
A better trade would have been for a big man which they sorely needed. The point guard trio of AJ, T-Lue, and Acie was doing a respectable job.
Not impressed with Bibby.

First off I want to say I am a die hard HAWKS FAN!!!
I went to the Bobcats game tonight knowing that this was a must win. I have never been to a hawk game so I was in for a treat. The hawks were beat before tip off. I didn’t see a team, I saw individuals. Nobody talked or communicated much before the game during warmups There were a couple warming up together, but I never got the feeling of them being a TEAM. I did notice that Josh, Josh and Al Horford seem to have each others back. Joe Johnson is a awesome weapon, but I don’t feel he is a team player. He was doubled alot and still took shots. He made alot, but there is no chemistry. Al Horford was a offensive weapon in the first quarter. They never went to him much after that. The offense is great when Bibby runs the team, but once he sits it over. Josh Childress is ten times better than Marvin Williams. Marvin gets all of his points off his team mates creations.
IF WOODSON IS NOT A BAD COACH THE TEAM HAS QUIT ON HIM.
By the way, I am a die hard hawk fan through thick and thin. I will support them no matter what, but right now this is not a team.

Sekou is right. We’ve gotten to the point of just saying the same things over and over again. No matter. It’s our outlet - the only way to vent our frustrations. We’ll keep going, since it’s the only way to ease our pain.
So many different thoughts about what’s wrong with this team, except the unanimous opinion that the coach has blown it, and the ownership is a mess. Other than that, there’s little agreement. That says to me that this team is still full of major issues - as talented as they are.
At the same time, I think we all have this feeling they could just as easily find the spark tomorrow and turn it all around. I mean, the talent is there.
That’s why we’re fans. The hardest part for me is that they just aren’t giving the same effort that has kept us fans around so long. They have about the exact same record at this point in the season that they had last season. And yet, last year it seemed like we played so much harder with so much less. Joe was throwing in ridiculous shots from everywhere, and the team was hanging around just about every game even when they shouldn’t have. Last year we overachieved - even if the won-loss results didn’t show it, but this year we have clearly underachieved. It’s been nothing but a big disappointment so far.
And yet, amazingly, it ain’t over.

I agree Clyde …
The Hawks started the season with the same motley crew as last year. They added 2 rookies - nothing more. How could you really expect much more than they are doing now? They have the same mentality as last year - can’t win on the road - lacking the commitment and effort needed to get it done - content to collect their fat paychecks and make excuses.
They are world beaters in the preseason - then they get a false sense of being something they are not - a good team - built for the long haul.
Are they a young team - still learning how to win? Perhaps. However, there is no excuse for their horrible effort on defense. It seems like Josh Smith is the only one who has his teammates back on defense - except for maybe Horford. Bibby is a major liability on defense - has always been. Their team defense is non-existent.

SEKOU-I see what you mean. Talking about the obvious really is a waste of time and effort. Woodson isn’t going to make any changes because he’s too stuborn, or stupid, to admit change is needed. Fresh out! OF IDEAS Guys I really don’t know what to say. I feel numb - I can’t even feel my nylon razor-sharp cheetah thong anymore
It used to make me feel raw and uncomfortable when my HAWKS lose - and now? Heck I can’t feel a thing. Not one damned THONG-THING I feel like pulling if off and throwing it into the crowd as I leave the Arena. Sort of like Dennis Rodman used to do with his Jersey back in the day!
Fellas we live in a different time and place now. Back then? Professional Basketball Players had Pride and they left it all on the court…These lazy overpaid cats now? They don’t know nothing ‘bout that! These cats play defense like they just got their nails-done
MJ - said it best when he was in Washington with Kwame Brown? The players today don’t play HARD Hell, they HARDLY PLAY at all.
MJ was 40 years old and diving on the floor for loose balls. He was busting his balls to force his will on the opponent. These KIDS are sulking and pouting. There must be some serious INFIGHTING in that locker room - why not? The owners can’t get along either. I am going to call the DISH people in the morning and tell them to come get their EQUIPMENT off my roof and out of my house.
I don’t ever want to see another game like tonight on my PLASMA-SCREENever again in LIFE! I paid too much for my TV to allow that garbage to come into my home!
In the morning - that receiver and all the remotes will be CURBSIDE next to the RECYCLE-BIN!

no, this team didnt need bibby to make it to the playoffs. the most discerning of the masses saw two direct needs, one a shooter like korver who went to utah and two a new head coach. both should have been done by january 15 and we would have been contending for a spot into the second round as we would have been about in sixth place by now. instead as we free fall we hand deliver a lottery pick to the suns which is my second favorite team quickly becoming number one.
gee aj, didnt we among others do more than type loudly to get adelman about this time last year? doing pretty good for houston right now, huh?

Fresh Out…try a fresh experience. The Hawks are totally exhausting to watch. This evening I tried a different distraction. The hawks drove me to a Thrasher’s game. Yes our hockey team ran by the same Sprit group.
I so did not want to be tempted to watch the Hawks vs Bobcats game. I have been to a hockey game only two times, the last time was over 10 years ago and tonight.
I enjoyed it, because I don’t know anything about it. It was fun learning, icing, offsides, the blue line, power plays, heck I thought they had 4 quarters and a half time (Hawks training). I got to see 3 periods of constant motion ( kinder like Phoenix / Golden State), sudden death overtime like the NFl, and a shootout (kinder like a one on one fastbreak in basketball, most of all I got to see an Atlanta team WIN…so to sum it up the Hawks are who we thought they were…let them take care of themselves…find something else to do and for petes sake, for your sanity, don’t do what I am doing now…I just go to bed!!!

Glad y’all liked my humor from yesterday. We gotta have something to grin about.
Well, we blew it against Charlotte. Anybody still think we’re making the playoffs? MannyT, got anymore sugar for that koolaid? It’s over brother, back to drinking coffee.
But anyway…today in the news:
A recent discovery of a non-descript high school yearbook was found in the Phillips Arena parking lot. In it were pictures of Dominique Wilkins and Jerome Jurenovich. One pictured showed Jerome hanging by his undies from a flag pole. Dominique was going through his pockets for loose change. This might explain why Jurenovich sucks up to him so badly during halftime and after the game: old habits die hard…
This just in: No, Bob Rathbun is not a child molester. However, word is that he has a life-time ban from all petting zoos and is not allowed near puppies…

The Poll for playoffs or draft pick is a farce, sources say. Certain employees of the ASG were told by one of the owners that this, along with recent advertisements for playoff tickets, would boost fan morale and revenues simultaneously. However, ASG members forgot that any first round picks go to the Phoenix Suns, and Billy Knight traded away the second round pick for Bibby. One employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that when the owners figured this out, they ordered ASG employees to vote on the poll themselves, and hopefully lure some unsuspecting fans into doing so as well…
This just in: Apparently Billy Knight isn’t getting his afro shaved off after all. One insider tells us that Billy actually did not trade the second round pick in a deal for Mike Bibby. Instead, he pawned off the pick for a 5-year supply of “Soul Glow” and “Afro Sheen”.
Anyway, it’s late, I’m tired, and my stuff ain’t damn near as funny this time…see y’all when we get beat twice by Miami. Later…

Like the game recap quote from Marvin about winning the games they are supposed to. What an epiphany - and insulting.
It would be one thing if all these guys sucked; but they don’t and it makes it that much harder to watch. If they don’t give a s* then why should we.
Despite being an ATL born and bread fan from when I was knee high I now officially quit. It will only be that much worse as the window closes on this joke of an organisation.
So now it is GO ORLANDO!

Ray,
Too funny, my man - keep it coming!
I was one of the last passengers off the Woodson wagon, but now that I’m off, I’ve noticed that the wagon is even more broken-down than I thought when I got off. I’m praying the ASG somehow wakes up and promotes Larry Drew soon…
I’m actually still not sold that Knight is a bad GM. I actually think he’s done pretty well. Unlike Woodson, he recognizes his mistakes and fixes them. The truth is that there are only a couple GMs who bat a higher average than Knight has. The only two glaring mistakes that Knight made (1) not trading down/taking Shelden at #5; and 2) failing to get us a PG not named Claxton) were both fixed this year. Bibby is a great PG, Acie has great potential, and Horford is looking more and more like the next ROTY. I still say that it’s absurd to call picking Marvin at #2 a mistake, because every single GM in the NBA would have done the exact same thing. Every. Single. One.
Also, I honestly think that with competent coaching, even Marvin would be averaging 18 and 8, and no one would be even thinking the word “bust.” This boy is talented and h’s still just 21, same age as Horford; he just doesn’t have a coach that knows how to light a fire under his butt.
So in conclusion, I will use the words of my old nemesis smartguy:
FIRE WOODSON AND WATCH THE HAWKS SOAR!!!

Matt, to be fair, Marvin has been a different player the last two or three games. He’s going to the basket more and trying harder on the boards. Even his defense has been a tad better. I know a better coach would help. In reality, we scream about the draft so much because we wanted Billy to draft the kinds of players that would be stars despite what coaches they had to deal with. Horford is one of those guys. Despite Woodson, this guy has been an absolute ROCK all year, having smashed his way through the rookie wall. Josh Smith is one of those guys. Unfortunately for him, he had to learn the game of basketball when he got here. We talk about his IQ, but the kid could only dunk and jump high when he entered the league. Mentally, he’s behind the curve. When he catches up (again, with the right coaching) look out. That’s why keeping him means we MUST get rid of Woodson. If he goes elsewhere, someone else will coach him up right and he’ll destroy the league…and not just on defense.
Despite Woody, Horford is now showing us (since he’s getting the opportunity) that he can score when given the ball. He’s got a good jumper that will only get better. I see a lot of 18/10 and 18/12 games coming from this guy…if not better figures than that. Why haven’t we gotten to see this earlier in the season? Woody.
Unfortunately, guys like Acie Law, Marvin Williams, etc, are not the kind of players who can easily survive a bad coach. They’re not superstars the minute they enter the league. Guys like Chris Paul, Brandon Roy, and even Rudy Gay are that kind of player. Rudy’s been through a lot in his short time in the league. Yet, he’s averaging 20ppg in a loaded western conference and on a team that loses more than we do. That’s why we screamed so much about the draft. Having said that, Billy apparently did try to fix some things.

The Atlanta Spirit must think the people of Atlanta are the dumbest in the world.
Add to everything that has been said above, Arthur Triche, who works for the Hawks felt it necessary to interject himself into the games broadcast. He wanted the Hawks fans to notice that the Bobcats had shot 59% since the first quarter. Rathbun then went on to make the excuse that you just can’t beat a team that shoots that well. Like I said, they must think we’re real stupid.
The excuses this organization makes for Mike Woodson game after game are insulting to the fans.
Did anyone else see the starting lineups for these two teams and think “we are so much more talented than them.” We dominated the first quarter, but were up by only 8. How we were unable to utilize a mismatch at nearly every position is beyond me.
Woody’s inability to make in-game adjustments caused us to lose the next three quarters.
And someone needs to tell Woody that Joe Johnson is not the energizer bunny. Part of me wants to get upset with JJ for not playing better, but then I remember he plays almost every minute of every game (especially in the second half). Woody’s post-game comment was that everybody in the league is in the same position (being tired). GREAT, so now our coach is judging our energy level based on other teams around the league. He must have gotten that sophisticated of an idea from Gearon or Levenson.
By this point, one thing seems clear to me: Mike Woodson will not be fired, no matter what. Its as disappointing to me as ya’ll, but if he hasn’t been fired by now, then he never will be. What the ASG sees in him is beyond me. I keep asking them to name ONE reason that he is a good HC; I don’t think they have one.
Matt, its a sad realization, but welcome to the club.

STOP ALL OF THIS FIRE WOODSON TALK BECAUSE IT’S A WASTE OF TIME AND ENERGY. If the DASG blocked BK’s 3 attempts to fire him, do any of you really think they’re going to turnaround and do it?
The DASG is well aware that Woodson deserves to be fired, but won’t do it until after the season ends. They want the opportunity to hand pick their new HC instead of the GM. If they had allowed BK to replace Woodson with LDrew, the team might have had a complete turnaround and made the playoffs. That would make it very hard to justify replacing LDrew. He represents the uptempo philosophy.
When the season ends and Woodson is fired, fans will see almost anyone these fools select as an upgrade. We all know BK prefers an uptempo style of OFF, but Woodson doesn’t and has been openly resistant. For all we know Gearon, and/or some of his fellow owners, might favor Woodson’s much more conservative style of OFF?
Getting rid of BK will allow them to structure the team for that style. If so, we can look forward to a sign and trade of JSmith. He’s definitely not a halfcourt type of player. The DASG’s model for the type of team they want might have been Detroit, or the old Celtics. Also, allowing the trade for Bibby might have been the 1st step in that direction.
JUST FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

It’s like watching a slow-mo of a train wreck. you could see in the second quarter that their high pick-and -roll play was going to eat us up. But I have a question for those who still care. If the hedge move by Horford or Pachulia on the pick-and-roll is opening up the floor for penetration and a kick-out three, why not AT LEAST ONCE try forcing their point to shoot the 2 point jumper and actually make it before putting us in scramble mode on D????? If they (the last 3 offenses we played) are hitting 3 after 3 then aren’t we better off surrendering a potential 2? And in better rebounding position?
Oh yeah, I forgot, that’s coaching. We don’t do that here!!!!!!

It’s clear that the Hawks have stopped playing for Mike Woodson. No energy, no hustle, total lack of defensive effort. NBA teams don’t shoot over 50% from the 3 point line - they do against the Hawks. Sorry fans, no playoffs this year. They may be lucky to match last year total of wins…and that’s with Joe Johnson. Mike Woodson, this is not Detroit, play more than 6 or 7 players each game.

These guys cant defend the 3 or the pick and roll……how many times did they run the same play and score -I counted 5.
Nowadayz- AL Rookie of the year Horford is about 90% of the reason I watch theze guys. Al Is a monster -and he is getting better……. next year or the year after i see him putting up 20/12…….. everybody else looks like shyt.
Josh Josh Josh- I saw this guy loose the ball/gett ripped 4 dam times with that stupid behind the back dribble………Max money I think not -not until u get a brain and sum handles from the Wizard.
Maybe I saw this wrong last night but Iz marvins middle name GAYE? What a cruel thing for a parent to do. When we are sitting at home watchn the playoffs -maybe the owners will say hey the hawks need a new Gm and Coach- or knowing them guyz they will say -Got dam we were so close -lets give Coach X one more go at this thing. Here we go… Since the Hawks will need a new GM and Coach. I will offer my services to turn this team around and save time and money.
off season grades and actions.
Atlanta Spirit Group: F- = Settle court case ASAP and become one true ownership.
Billy Knight: F = So long BK, Get a true NBA GM.
Woodson: F— = So long Woody. Get a coach who demands positive results, makes adjustments, coaches to strengths.
JJ: B = Less minutes in a set rotation, he’ll be fine. J. Smith: B = Keep developing shot. don’t try and block every shot. Sign new contract. M. Bibby: B+ = get healthy. A. Horford: A++ = Keep working and do what you do. M. Williams: D- = 15 insignificant pts/night. Trade him ASAP and get what you can. Outside shooter who plays defense. Instantly upgrades team. J. Childress: A = Best 6th man in league. Intangables and offense off bench. sign new deal. Za Za: C = recommit to defense and rebounding. S. Jones; INC = who knows if he will be good or not. He appears to have game, but doesn’t play. PLAY HIM. S. Stoudamire: C+ = tough grade because he hasn’t played much except after Bibby trade. Better rotation will = better results. M. West: B = Good effort, very limited skills. This team needs help right away. Sorry Mario, but you are not talented enough to help this team.
Follow this formula and this team will get better… believe it or not.

Yes let this season, as in all the last how many seasons….. go away quietly…..
We will again at some point have a first rounder, and as well loose more and more this year, the Suns get a better first round pick…….SO I am sure they are rooting for us to loose!
The only hope for this franchise is yet to start over again…….
I would say SELL the team, get a mew OWNER, A NEW GM, AND of course a NEW COACH !
Also can anyone say DEFENSE, a Stop every now and again will really be necessary if the Hawks are to win any of the remaining games!
We cannot out score the rest of the league, we have proven that !

I finally got the opportunity in 24 hours to get on this blog. If anyone remembers my post on the second to last SS blog, I suggested a boycott. I am happy to see others calling for it.
So many before this post have realized the underlying problem. Clyde I know has been the missionary for this cause, FIRE BILLY,WOODY & the ASG.
I hate to be repeating myself but it’s rebuilding time again. Trade JJ,Josh and Marvin and build around Horford. We already have a point guard in place at least for next season. If Bibby asks for a trade I can understand because it will be a younger team starting all over again. However, all this will not be done without ridding this town of the 3 musketeers mentioned above.
It’s sad for all Hawks fans but as I said before in a previous blog, until the ASG are no longer the owners of this team we will make no progress.

Why should we give so much credit to Woodson and Knight if the Hawks make the playoffs. If the team ends up 10 games under .500 and make the playoffs, that doesn’t make them a good team. The Eastern Conference is simply pathetic. And the Hawks are a pathetic team right now. Sneaking in to the playoffs with a losing record, only to get thumped by the #1 or #2 seed is NOTHING this city will get itself excited about or be proud of. Look at the accomplishments of Chris Paul and Deron Williams (and compare that to the Hawks embarassing situation at the point guard position) and ask yourself how Billy Knight still has a job. And Mike Woodson has been unable to get this team to gel, despite the fact that, for the first time in years, they actually have considerable talent on their roster (minus a decent point guard and a legit big man). FIRE THEM BOTH, HAWKS OWNERSHIP!!!! The fans won’t care about this team until ownership shows that it willing to dump the incompetents.

Sekou, Why does Mike Woodson have us playing zone defense against teams that can shoot the ball from beyond the arch. The whole season we have been getting killed by teams shooting 3 pointer. You would think considering how athlectic a team we have that we would play more man-to-man defense as well as run full and half court press. Because in the current defense we use the players seem to get confused on which man to guard on switches after pick and rolls by the opposing team offense which usually end up as an easy lay up for the other team or an wide open 3 shot. If we played more man to man each player would know exactly where they need to be at all times?
Sekou any thoughts on the above?

Before last nights lost to the Bobcats, I thought the Hawks had a chance to win 17 of there last 23 games. I checked the scheduled and it was favorable for them to do just that. But, Woody has lost control of this team. JJ is not in a shooting slump, he is tripled and doubled teamed every time down court unless they are on a fast break which is rare due to the dummy coach. The other teams has adjusted their game plan against Bibby in less than 2 weeks, and the dummy coach has not adjusted. The best shooters on the hawks team besides JJ and Bibby are Salim and Richardson. Salim is inconsistent and Dummy coach will not give Richardson enough time in the game. Believe it or not I believe that Richardson should start and Marvin should come off the bench. Marvin gives you nothing every night, he has no heart. He may score a little bit but he does nothing special to help the team. He has no range on his jumper and is inconsistent with it and he does not give you enough rebounds for his size. Marvin does not work enough on his game this is obvious by looking at him, He has not even improved his body. Richardson would be another 3 point threat that would open up the court more for JJ and Bibby. And let J Smoove get garbage baskets only. ZAZa he should not even be in the league as well as Solomon. Also West should be playing more that kid gives great effort and he knows how to play defense. For those who think J Smoove is a great defender. He quit playing good man to man and only goes for blocks to pad his stats. That kid is extremely selfish. I have attended 5 games this year all since Jan. I see a team that has lost faith in there coach, management and ownership and what makes it even worst we must make a hasty decision on 2 of or young stars J Chill and J Smoove due to their contract situations. I say let J Smoove go, he is selfish.
New Prediction, The Hawks will be 20 games under 500 at seasons end.

What’s up cyber-lover? I was missing you, hell if you were’nt so damned old I would take a chance and send you some VIAGRA
But I love you too much - And I couldn’t live with myself if you had a heart attack! ;0
Man what can I say that hasn’t been said for some 10 years now. I guess SMITTY - MOOKIE - DIKEMBE was our last competitive team around here. Back when I was a season ticket holder. Boy how I miss the good ole days. I guess back then the Money wasn’t so crazy so the guys played for PRIDE. MJ set the bar very high and besides KOBE and LeBRON, I just don’t see that impeccable combination of Skill and Heart in today’s player.
Say what you will about AI and ARTEST - but those guys play HARD every single PLAY! Like Mario West does. I came of WOODY’S wagon simply because he refuses to play RIO and I just don’t understand that. I believe I was the last person sitting on that wagon - I was a die hard supporter of WOODY until the RIO and SALIM too - DEBACLE!
Even NIQUE has finally spoken. Last night he questioned not using the Friggin-Bench!

Quick thoughts 1. Woody is out. Playoffs???
2. Joe Johnson is rightly bummed to have come to this mess but he plays with no passion. He’s a complimentary scorer and not an All-Star. 3. Josh Smith is Nique w/o the fifty win seasons - great for the highlights but no more. 4. Marvin Williams is Atlanta’s Sam Bowie. 5. Get rid of Bob Rathbun. His whining homerism is old. He goes first, then Billy & Woody.

MYKHALC, RAY, DOC, ASTRO-I guess you have to laugh to keep from crying. Has anyone ever heard of any ownership of a professional team that won’t make, or allow to be made, moves that would help their team improve and possibly make the playoffs? I believe the DASG, SAASG(sorry a$$ Atlanta Spirit Group)is making history in that area.
Boycotting won’t accomplish anything, since they’re already aware of the empty seats. We, as concerned Atlanta Hawks Fans, should start a writing campaign directly targeting the owners. We should take our frustrations beyond these blogs and place them directly in their laps. Flood them with emails and letters that accurately display our outrage and frustration.
Last yr, a lot of fans were outraged at BK’s comments concerning his superior knowledge of basketball. We should be just as outraged, even more so, at the SAASG, DAASG’s deliberate attempts to sabotage the Hawks chances of reaching the playoffs and/or having a successful season. Let Belkin, Gearon and the rest of those ignorant, selfish, self-serving monkeys know how we feel about them putting their petty, personal, ego driven issues ahead of their revenue generating fans. LET’S TALK ABOUT IT.

Movie time with the neighbors. Be back later. Heard the reviews and knew my wife wouldn’t go see “No Country for Old Men.” DAMN. I mean the killing was COLD man. As real as it gets on film. Thinking of that, my old unit has just been put on stand-by for a third tour in Iraq. I’ll check with you on the TWO games tonight.

Listening to last nights game made me realize that this team can’t win by ignoring their coach, it just doesn’t Work! At this point the players realize that coach is not going to help them and they have to figure it out themselves, but when they get down in a game and can’t figure things out they need a coach to help them and this coach can’t. I think added Bibby has made that worse, because everyone knows that Biddy doesn’t have to listen to the coach and the coach doesn’t ask him to. Biddy clearly needs someone to stay on him about his defense, but Woodson doesn’t have his respect so he’s not going to listen to him. If the Hawks make the Playoffs it will be by luck and definitely not because of Woodson. I agree with the post above about the ASG waiting until the end of the season to clean house and fire Woody and BK and probably most of the Assistants. I hate to say, but that makes sense, if though I believe that it won’t hurt to give Drew a chance.

C’mon Sekou! Why stop debating your talking points?? The only reason there was any debate at all was because of the idiots that would see a couple of wins as the beginning of the development of an athletic, smart, physical, and disciplined team which would then sputter and collapse with inconsistency, turnovers, poor shooting, and even poorer defense. The coach is horrible and everybody knows it, even Billy Knight. The GM is horrible and everybody knows it but the owners. The owners are horrible and everybody does truly know that. So keep debating Sekou. If the idiots figure ever out the truth, they’ll be nothing to talk about at all except who the next forward we pick in the draft will be.

Today in the news:
The Atlanta Hawks beat the Miami Heat in a game that was decided a long time ago. Months, to be exact…Also, it was the most successful last 60 seconds the Hawks have played since December…
Beat blog resident Jami$$ion is the dubious winner of a blog award. Prior to this, Jami$$ion was quoted as saying something along the lines of “I know I’m not liked here…because I speak the truth….” Actually Jami$$ion, it’s not that you’re not liked. It’s that we can’t understand a DAMN thing you’re saying. Every post looks like something you’d get from a teenage girl with Turrett’s Syndrome. By the way, the award is for “longest run-on sentence in blog history, and most grammatical errors per 100 words.” No, seriously, you’re not hated here by anyone who matters. We’re all family. Well, most of us are anyway…
Back by popular demand, it’s story time!: The tale of the three Billy goats and the Troll under the Bridge. Copywriters had an objection to this, so the story had to be changed around. It’s now one goat and three trolls. The goat’s name? You guessed it: Billy. The three trolls? Jeff, Terrance, and Mark. It’s a tale of a terrible crime, BASED ON A TRUE STORY. The names in this story will not be changed…simply because the author sees no reason to do so…. Basically, the goat (Billy) ignores the Holy Blog, which would have been his one true source of salvation. In doing so, he allowed the Holy Blog to fall into the hands of the three evil trolls. The trolls took the very essence and sacred writings of the Holy Blog, and wove them into their own evil writings. Thus the blog was held hostage. In the meantime, the creator of the Holy Blog, otherwise known as Sekou of Fearless Blog Z land, was also held hostage for a short time by fearful AJC agents, who were scared of the all-evil ASG super-trolls. However, being from the fearless land of Blog Z (kind of like the Furyans-i.e. chronicles of Riddick), he was able to free himself in a day’s time. And judgement day was close at hand…The three trolls were caught and charged with theft by taking/kidnapping, theft by conversion, and grand theft blog…by Blog and Order: Special Task Force Unit officers I.Mus, Mykhalc, and Ray. Senior officers Reese, Doc, and Astro Joe were on hand to orchestrate the event. Special Liason/Interpreter and Hostage Negotiator Ken Strickland was on hand, but became frustrated by the standoff, and began to severely beat one of the trolls across the head with the portable telephone, and had to be restrained by Doc. Rogue officer Ando was last seen whooping it up at the Pink Pony and missed the event altogether.
And that’s all for now folks…

I think that JS would improve if we could somehow get a coach that he would respect. Imagine what Riley or Phil Jackson could do with him. Why is it that the Hawks can’t defend the 3-pointer? That just seems to be lack of desire and hustle. Why Woody won’t play Mario is beyond me. Bring him in as a sub for Bibby and turn the defensive pressure up. JJ is on fire tonight, but Woody is going to wear him out and they will probably lose the game because of it. I love the passion JJ is showing tonight, leading by example. It just seems that Al, Chills and Mario are the only ones who know hos to play consistently with intensity. Everyon else has too many mental lapses, especially Josh (turnover) Smith. The Hawks are so good when they run, I just wish taht Woody would let his bench play so they could run the whole game. Oh well, maybe we can get a good coach in here next year. Maybe we can get a good gm who will bring in some size and some great catch and shoot players in here to help. Maybe we won’t be penalized for hoping against hope again next year.

I know Marvin is young and has all this so called potential but I dont think I would be too upset if we moved him this summer for a player and a pick. Whoever came up with the name invisible man for him had it spot on. If I wasnt watching the game myself I wouldnt believe you if you told me he was playing because he has done absolutely nothing. I thought Law was hurt but I see him suited but up no minutes. Richardson does not play anymore either. Well I guess the Hawks realized that they are fighting for a playoff spot. If they win this and the Nets lose they will have the 8th spot. Too bad they aint realize last night they needed a win.

Josh Smith is so stupid!!!!! How can he take a fade away jumper when the lead is only 2 with a minute left. His basketball IQ, or lack thereof, has killed this team over and over again. I wish JJ or Bibby would rip him in the huddle for playing so stupid. He always makes these kind of decisions at the end of games. With his athletic ability, he should drive and jump to the goal and draw a foul, but no, he has to take a stupid jump shot every time. I’m so sick of his crap! We need to bench his butt until he learns t5o paly smart kor trade his butt and let someone else deal with his stupidity!!!

hawksfanfordawin,
It’s not that Josh took the shot, it’s what kind of shot he took. He continues to settle for jump shots, when they are the weakest part of his game. I have no problem with him when he either posts up or drives the ball under control. It’s just that he doesn’t play smart and thinks that his talent is enough to make him great. It was only when Jordan learned to play within himself and with his team that he became great. All the talent in the world can’t make up for stupid plays. I love Smooze’s potential and ability but get so fed up with his decision making. Sometimes he reminds me of DeAngleo Hall for the Falcons. All about himself and how he wants to be the center of attention. I just wish he would put the team first and play smart ball.

Congratulations Hawks Fans. Two for the price of one, AND the Wizards lost to the Bobcats leaving the kitchen door open so you can walk into the playoffs at the 11th hour. Wizards are still young, except for Daniels and Jamison. They don’t quite value a must win against a second tier club. This will make the 17th more interesting.

richbrave bro, you’re killing me.. Didn’t the Wizards just beat the Raptors in Toronto last night in overtime? Gilbert is getting himself back in game shape and Caron’s already stated he’d be back in a couple of weeks, so they may have the big three ready to go against Atlanta on the 17th.
As for Josh Smith, I don’t think it’s a hidden fact I’m not his biggest fan, because he still doesn’t know how to play to his strengths and still relies on athletic ability alone. However he is NOTHING like DHall and he doesn’t take plays off.
I personally think he would be an All-Star under a coach who utilized him the way he needs to be.

What I mean by Smith reminding me of Hall is not about his mouth, but his attitude on the court and his selfish play on the offensive end of the court. Smith, like Hall, is a great talent, but seems to make poor decisions when things aren’t coming to him, hence he makes a stupid play. It seems like he forces too many things trying to make a great play, even if it’s a play that isn’t a strength of his. Yes, he consistently makes jaw-dropping OMG! plays during the game, and some of those do make up for his lack of intelligent decisions on offense. However, if he would put the team first, he would recognize the poor position he puts his team in when he takes those poor shots when the team isn’t expecting it and noone is in position to make the rebound. You can tell how demoralizing it becomes for the whole team, the same way Hall’s lapses on defense for the Falcon’s demoralize their team. If you look at my earlier psot, you see that I believe that Smooze could be great under proper direction from a great coach, but I have to believe that even Woody has coached him better than this. He just is not listening to the coach. You can hear that in JJ’s comments recently. He even stated what the coach had been telling the team, but until the young guys like JS and Marvin begin to listen to thier coaching, it isn’t going to do any good. I admit that the young players have already tuned Woody out, but JJ has a point. They must play the way the coach tells them (even if it’s a bad coach). Someting tells me that this is why the Hawks struggle and BK wanted to fire Woody. The young ones like Smooze (who is probably leading the way) just don’t listen to the coaching they’re getting. In professional sports, regardless of what plays are called, it usually comes down to execution of the game plan. Now, whether the Hawks have a game plan or not is up to debate, but listening to JJ, I think they probably do. You can’t tell me Woody is telling Smoove to dribble the ball down the floor when he has stated that Bibby is running the show on offense now. That means he and Horford must get the ball to Bibby and hustle down the court. Still, Josh continues to dribble the ball down the court and turn it over. That kills the team. Sorry for the long post, but I needed to clarify what I meant.

Steve Smith is an announcer and a former NBA player that’s never been a coach. Yet, he had enough sense to recognize, with 2:38mins left in the 3rd qtr, there was another qtr to play and JJ needed a rest. He noticed Pat Riley understood as much and was resting DWade.
I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Woodson’s reason for playing Bibby so many mins, while hurt, was to slow the OFF down. Remember his stupid post gm remark about needing to milk the clock more? He’s turned what was once a very exciting team to watch into something very boring. I don’t blame Woodson for what he’s doing as much as I blame ownership for letting him continue to do it.

All those looking for Ray Ray’s daily news should check the 8:44 post I did.
Mykhalc, I did a special one for you since I was taking requests!
But just for the evening version: In today’s news…
The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Miami Heat for the second time in 3 hours. Apparently the Heat, which are the worst team in the Eastern Conference, were so demoralized by the first loss, they just couldn’t get it going for the second game.
This has to be the first time a game has been won without scoring. Sources say some players were interviewed on the preparation Mike Woodson gave the team before the 51.9-second replay. All of their answers seemed rather vague about what was supposed to take place. Whatever the game plan was supposed to be, it apparently made no sense whatsoever. When asked whether or not Woodson had come up with a gameplan to actually score or just play defense, something was angrily muttered from the back of the locker room about “milking the f%#king clock.” Another person, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that “this wasn’t the first g@#-damned time Woodson had designed a useless game plan. In fact, results tend to be just as bleak with after-timeout plans.”
And in other news…
Atlanta Hawks owners are still reeling in shock after an amazing discovery. After the Mike Bibby trade, it was learned that the Hawks roster has three previously unknown players: Mario West, Solomon Jones, and Salim Stoudamire. After a records and transactions check, it was confirmed that all two of the players were drafted over a year ago, and one of them was drafted around 9 months ago. Said one owner: “Wow, I didn’t know those three guys were playing for us. How much are we paying them?” Another owner responded: “I was just about to call security after seeing the same three guys sitting at the end of the bench each home game. Sure they had jerseys, but any dumb-a$$ fan can get a complete jersey set. Who would have known they were players? I’ve never seen them on the court prior to the trade that brought Mike Bibby here.” Yet another owner had this to say: “I thought they were part of Sheldon’s posse/entourage since he got robbed at the barbershop. They kept following everybody else into the locker room, and nobody seemed to mind. Where’s Mike and Billy? They should’ve told us about this…and why weren’t these guys playing?”
Sources say that the ASG spokesperson was approached regarding the $250 playoff tickets for sale. The spokesperson, again begging for anonymity responded: “Playoff tickets? Oh those are for next year, we just want to get them sold in advance to our loyal fans.” At this point, the spokesperson’s cell phone rang. We managed to hear bits and parts of the conversation. They went something like this: “What?? So Billy and Mike are staying?..okay…okay…keep that under my hat…” At this point, the spokesperson hung his phone up, turned to us and said “I’m sorry about that….uhhh, those playoff tickets will be for the year 2011…and there’s a disclaimer with some finer details that I’m not at liberty to state right now…”
So there you have it folks. Brought to you once again by “I Can’t Be Left To My Own Devices When There’s Nothing Better to Talk About” Productions. Good evening, and good luck.

I just have one question. Can anybody tell me why on earth when we are one of the worst 3 point shooting teams we don’t let Richardson come in and shoot some frigen 3’s teams just shoot the lights out. If JJ or Bibby can’t hit we just get killed. let the kid come in and shoot 3 to 4 three’s it can’t be no worse then marvin going 0-7 from th field…

Ray, good stories man.I can only offer an observation.
A Pep Talk is needed. No, not for the hawks, but for you fellow bloggers, fans and Sekou. Don’t abandon the team after every loss. Continue to voice your concerns, analysis, praise and criticism. However, never abandon the team.
Just because someone doesn’t do something the first time you make the suggestion doesn’t mean that eventually they won’t come to their senses. That applies to Woodson, Billy Knight, the ASG and the players.
I offer you the same advice that I gave the players a few blogs back. Stop looking ahead at the schedule and assuming that a certain team is beatable or a certain team is not beatable. Because in reality the hawks can beat every team and every team can beat the hawks.
The playoffs is the goal and don’t worry about whether Woodson/Knight are kept. No matter which players are representing the hawks, we want them to think like a winner, play like a winner and be a winner.

Hey RichBrave
Your’e MY cyber-slut those other guys are just jealous! You keep it up - I like it when you talk DIRTY-SOUTH
About a trade with Seattle? - mmmmmhh! I would be hesitant to send Marvin for Damien (Lottery Pick -vs- Nephew-tism?) not sure about that (maybe if packaged with a top-ten pick only. Marvin has yet to PLATEAU.
He kind of reminds me of a AL-Harrington Clone Potentially a Nice Inside-Outside game but not a great defender.
[Derrick Coleman and Rasheed Wallace] are the two greatest examples of UNSTOPPABLE & UNFORGETTABLE SKILLS that have and will never PLATEAU based on a severe LACK of Mental Toughness and Effort. In a word - LAZY I hope Marvin doesn’t fall into that trap because he certainly has the potential. That picture perfect jump shot alone is worth the price of admission.
If he works on his post-up play and three point shooting and improve his mid-range jump shot….WHEW! he would be worth the #1 or #2 Pick. Bogut should take more heat for being a bust than Marvin. Didn’t he go #1 (I never hear his name mentioned anywhere) In retrospect Paul should have gone #1 so the Hawks are not the only ones with 20/20 Hind-Sight
RichBrave I can’t give up on Marvin just yet. No more draft picks needed on this team. Hey at least no one can complain about BK drafting this time around. We could all use a break. We simply don’t need no more KIDS man.
We need some Vets! SOME ROLE PLAYERS! A SPECIALIST!
(like a Barkley, Charles Oakley, The Rifleman -Chuck Person, Rodman, Rick Mahorn, Bill Lambeer, etc.)
