Don’t look now …
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
SACRAMENTO - When Acie Law IV walked across the floor in street clothes at the end of the Hawks’ 119-107 loss to the Kings, I wasn’t sure what to make of it.
He’d already scooted off to the locker room after injuring his right wrist late in the third quarter. But I figured he might have just tweaked it and needed a pack of ice or something.
It turns out things could be much dire than that. Law was headed off-site to get an MRI exam on that wrist, the same one that cost him time earlier this season and the same one that he’s had trouble with throughout his career (fearless as he is going to the basket, Law hasn’t figured out a way to brace himself on his falls back to earth and seems to always use that hand).
Hawks coach Mike Woodson insisted that anything said before the results are delivered Thursday afternoon would be nothing but speculation.
And with Mike Bibby nursing a bad heel, Speedy Claxton in Atlanta with a surgically repaired knee and now Law with the wrist, the Hawks’ point guard situation is back in the crosshairs - this four days after the trade for Bibby was supposed to solve all these problems.
“We’ve just got to wait and see,” Woodson said when I asked him if they were worried that Law broke his wrist. “It could be. It’s a possibility We’ll just have to see how the results come out.”
If that’s the case, the Hawks will have to scramble to find depth at the position.
“We don’t know, we’re going to have to go out and find someone, maybe in the D-League,” Woodson said, again playing the speculation game. “Right now we just don’t know. We’re just speculating until the results come out.”

I can’t handle this franchise anymore. 10 freakin years in a row they’ve failed to give Hawk fans some happyness. TEN YEARS in a row. I’ve gave up on ths franchise.
There is nothing else I can do. I can’t even enjoy the sport of basketball anymore because of these guys. All they do is lose lose lose. That’s all they will continue to do.
They have poor coaching and a roster full of role players. That’s right, almost every player on the Hawks roster is a future role player.

Geeeez. We don’t need to lose Law.
Well, the effort was better. You can tell however, that the team is still being mis-managed and mis-coached during games. Bibby showed up like a real man. And it’s obvious that he has that stroke, especially from behind the arc. We’ve struggled on the road all season. And trying to gel like this after a major trade, on the road, against the tougher western competition…well, it’s not a recipe for success, that’s for sure. I don’t know that we’ll go 0-5 on this trip, but if we do….yeah, it’s a big problem. We need some home cooking.
I thought for a hot second that Woodson might be able to do better with a guy like Bibby around. I’m still reserving judgement, but I’m definitely leaning in a particuar direction if you know what I mean.
Also, that stuff Michael Gearon was saying: listen closely and read between the lines. Gearon said that Woody never complained despite the organization’s turmoil. No $hit. You don’t complain when someone offers you your first shot at a head coaching job. That’s a good way to garner unwanted attention. Gearon says that now Woody has the veteran point guard that he never had. Damn straight. Read the writing on the wall, Woody. You have what you and everyone else says you need to take this team to the next level. Get it done. By saying what he did, Gearon has just basically all but admitted that between ownership and management, what Woody needed was not being provided…until now.

Josh Smith is a good shot blocker and dunker….but does anyone notice how many times a game he throws up the UGLIEST LOOKING SHOTS? Horrible Misses. The ones the do go in seem to be pure luck. He also makes other mistakes too…horrible passes…etc. They outweigh his amazing blocks.
He’s INCONSISTENT
Joe Johnson doesnt seem like he wants to be a leader as well. Just a pretty good scorer. Role players on others teams come up more clutch than him.
This is sad…as of right now if i wanted consistent shots knocked down I’d rather see this guy Richardson takin them more than anyone else on the team (sad huh?)
Screw these guys we need some PLAYERS
Acie had an excuse earlier because he’s a ROOKIE but seems to be coming around now
Acie,Richardson,Horford,Bibby, Childress(maybe)
are the only people I’d FOR CERTAIN want to hang on to for the NEVER ENDING rebuilding process in ATL.
for all I care ship the others out and try to find some CONSISTENT guys

The problem I had with last night’s game is Zaza’s play. I was a huge fan of his after his first year here, but I’m a disgusted at how much his game seems to have digressed. Not once in his 15 minutes of play did I see him box out or get in position for a defensive rebound, and to be honest I’m tired of seeing it.
I wish Coach Woodson would give Solo more of a chance, I know he gets pushed around time to time by stronger big men, but at least he tries on the defensive side of the ball.

Mr. Smith, Draw in a deep breath. Remember to smile at your wife and kids. Repeat, “It’s just a game of rich Americans (just like me ;-)”. When you write about gains or losses, look clear through this. Keep up your humor and patience. This is a spiritual thing, and you need your focus not to let the storm of emotions sway you from reality. These “kids” are getting paid for this. Its what they bought into. So, let them reap what they sew. Your humor will help you brush off the anger and frustration of others, like unwanted white lint on a black suit; it isn’t your frustration.
I tell you, any time you want to relax, and find out about reality, let me know and we’ll meet in one of two places; one is Mosul Iraq, and the other is in Israel.

We all saw this coming…only 2 games after the trade, people are losing faith. This trade for Bibby will work out! You can’t judge this team on a 5 game road trip, much less the 2 games in!!!! I do however think ATL has to find a way to get at least one win, hopefully 2(won’t happen in San Antonio).
But YOU CAN’T JUDGE AFTER 2 GAMES.

Ok, I stayed up late 2 nights in a row and nothing to show for it. I can’t keep doing this. I’ve followed the hawks since their first year in Atlanta and this team reminds me alot of the Mike Sojourner, John Brown, Tom Henderson, Dwight Jones. Mediocre at best. At least back then..when I stayed up late Skip Carey was just starting and he was funny to listen to unlike last nights announcers. I have Two words - Hawks stink!

Bibby is the real deal, Horford a future All-Star, JJ & JSmith keepers, Acie w/ great potential…it ain’t gonna happen this year but the Hawks are a coach & a center away from being contenders. If you can make a deal for a coach, do it now & get a jump start on next year. Bibby showed great heart last night—hope he finishes his career here.

I completely agree with you. And I think Richardson should get a contract for the rest of the season based off his 1st 2 games. But “goofy” and ZaZa have to go. I can’t stand either one. They’re both awkward, play NO defense(not that JJ does either), and can be traded for a center. He doesn’t have to be a STUD! But A big body…someone who can rebound and play some defense will do! But, no more trades will be made, so ZaZa and Solo will have to step up BIG! If they do, I still believe the Hawks have a shot at the playoffs. People forget how tough the west coast trip is….I mean come on! By the time ATL gets back home, they could really go on a run because Bibby and the rest of the team will be more comfortable with each other. All ATL needs is a 6-4 or 7-3 stretch…Philly and Indy are playing well…but not exactly “intimidating”. It’s easy to see them losing 5 or 6 in a row. If that happens…ATL could jump all the way up to 6…especially with Washington’s struggles.
Just my opinion

I’ve got a few questions for all you sucka MCs who think you’re fly (and the Blog Z-ers who THINK they know squat about basketball):
Why is your team 0-2 with a future first-ballot Hall of Famer at PG? (For the hard of thinking, that was sarcasm.)
Why do some of you say, “well, at least we played hard”? (Talking about damning with faint praise! It’s not like these clowns have to get up and go to work in the morning. Shouldn’t they play hard every night?)
What do you think of Josh Smith’s “shot”? (The fact that someone with so little SKILL is praised by the inhabitants of this blog is a clear example of why the NBA circa 2008 sucks so hard.)

Josh Smith’s ‘Shot?’ You don’t need a shot in the NBA. All you do is take about 3 dribbles past midcourt and take of running for the basket. Anything less than 12 steps will never be called traveling. Or hop your way to the basket and call it a jump stop. See how easy it is?

Wiley Coyote- I would not annoint Richardson as the savior of the hawks either…..but why not ride a guy who seems to have his shot going better than anyone else? That is the thing that gets me with Woody, there is no deviation from his script…….a guy like Richardson can come in off the bench and score in bunches when we need it the most, and all Woody will do is pull the guy after he has played his minutes, and pat him on the back, and we will not see the guy again for the game…..and this is one of the things that is killing the hawks….Woody just does not come up with anything other than “Plan A”………everybody knows who takes the last shots in games for the hawks…….and Joe Johnson can be blindfolded, hopping along on crutches, with his shooting arm in a sling…..and guess what……..Woody would still give him the ball to take the last shot!

No explaination is really needed. This is not a good team. Call it coaching, skill vs talent, a rash of injuries, whatever. This is not a good team. Hasn’t been for years and years. It’s nice that we can stop blaming the PG position now and just look at the rest of the mess. It’s similar to the Falcons losing Vick. Oddly, the Hawks had to add a player to expose thei myriad weaknesses while the Falcons had to subtract one. In either case, the teams are badly built and managed. In both, solutions are guessed at rather than figured out. In reality, was the PG and playiff push needed this year rather than having the cap flexibility over the summer to add a few midrange players and hire someone to instill some leadership on this team. That, however, has been nixed in favor of a “bling” signing at the trade deadline as though it matters if the Hawks don’t make the playoff or get blown out in the first round.
Can you legitimately look at this trade and say that Bibby is progress, especially over the long haul?
Ok, to switch the anger to last night’s game: Why did Horford play 40+ minutes? Does MW feel obligated to run at least one player into the ground on a nightly basis? Were Solo and others not OK to pick up the fouls the rest of the team was accruing? Yeesh.
Memo: Hawks are like Falcons.
Hasta, and lets have some straight commentary rather than searching for the bright side.

I’m bothered by the fact that we have had top picks for several years and have basically nothing to show for it. If we had the propper talent evaluators (Billy Knight Stinks), we would be a lot better. Marvin is a good shooter and decent rebounder, but that is it. He gets the ball stolen all the time. Take him off and put Chris Paul on the team (how many are we better by I say +10 wins). Then you have the good ole #5 pick of Shelden Williams. First we wasted the pick on him and then we don’t even play him and now we trade him. How does picking and not playing him make sense. Let’s see who we could have got if Billy Knight would have went away from his 6’9” guys. Try, Brandon Roy (He is already a superstar), he kicked our butts in Portland when we should have had the game won. Roy makes us better. Now go back to the two Josh’s year. I like the pick of Josh Smith so no problem there. But taking Childress at 6???? He is a good player, but you should be getting a major star at that point. We could have had Luol Deng or Andre Iguodala. They are both major scorers now, something we sorely lack. Our Draft this year was the only good one I can remember. So tell me is our stating line up today better then this: Chris Paul (PG), Brandon Roy (SG), Joe Johnson (SF), Josh Smith (PF) Al Hartford (C). We could have had all this without any additional trades then what had already been done. The Hawks are pittiful. Babcock and now Knight as GM. This is ridiculous. I thank Dominique for all those great years and his ability to make me believe that our team could win any game because he was on our team. We haven’t had a person like that since him. We have missed 15 years of oportunities I’m sure. I haven’t went back and looked at everyone we missed, but the bottom line in the NBA is you have to have a Superstar in order to have a chance and we haven’t since Dominque. Everytime we play a team with one of them we get beat.

Man, you people are some of the most fair-weather fans I’ve ever seen. Get real! Flash back to two days ago. Everyone of the current whiners on this board was awash in ecstasy over the Bibby trade. The talk just 48 hours ago was not whether the Hawks would make the playoffs, but how far they would go in the playoffs.
As I said yesterday, the irony of this trade is the timing. It’s a GREAT trade, and will be down the road. The problem is that it came at the start of a ridiculous western road trip. We could have traded for Michael Jordan in his prime and still go 0 for 5 against this lineup of juggernauts (Sacramento notwithstanding). You can’t seriously expect to remove four semi-to-moderate contributors from a team, add a new player to run the whole show, and expect immediate results against teams like these.
Last night was our best shot at a win on this trip, and it didn’t happen. But that doesn’t mean the season ended last night. It’s not over folks! Let’s pray that Acie is alright, get this trip behind us, and then get on with turning this thing around. The season is not over.

Ummm, hey Woody, what about Salim? He can play the point if need be. woody says after the trade that Salim and Solo will be getting more PT? Ok, when? You can see Salim has had it with Woodson. After Richardson got the call to go in before Salim last ight, you could see his demanor change. Woody must have NO confidence in Salim to leave him on the bench like that and not even mention him as an option if Acie is out. Woody is heading to the D league before Salim. Wow.

Patience Hawks fans. It takes time to build a winner. You are close.
Keep the Fab Five. With Bibby and Acie that should be a Fab Seven in two years. You can’t afford to lose a player comparable to Caron Butler in Josh Smith. Get a deal done. Childress is a must. Horford is going to be a monster #4. I don’t know the Hawks cap-room, but I would suggest building a coat-room next it to sign these five, viz: Childress, Williams, Horford, Johnson, and Smith.
Regarding the FIRE BILLY supporters. Sometimes when you have a #1 pick in the draft you get Kwame Brown. You make a 17 year-old independently wealthy, have an NBA legend break him down, and get Caron Butler when he washes out. Don’t expect perfection from your GM. Where did Bibby,Smith and Horford come from? If Bibby washes out you’ve lost nothing other than Anthony Johnson and a #2 pick.(Tyronne Lue? LW - plueezzee!!).
5 monsters are hard to come by in this league. That’s all you need now to get an NBA championship. When he comes along, you’ll have to break-up the Fab Five to get him. Be ready by having them on hand. ZaZa’s your back-up.If you need a coach that can develop players like Eddie Jordan does with the Wizards then do it. Whatever it takes. That should please 70% of the posters on this blog anyway. Hey, Larry Brown on the rebound? Whatta’ ya’ say?

Preston, I agree that Rich needs more minutes. I was just responding to some comments that he should be the new starter and that JJ was expendable. If he (Rich)can continue to stretch the defense the way he has in his few minutes so far, I think he should be here to stay and play a big role off the bench for us. But since Woody is from the Larry Brown mold of not wanting to play his players, we all are probably just wasting time talking about it.

As for the game last night Zaza played terrible and Josh Smith got schooled by Artest. JJ got in foul trouble, which limited his minutes. That pretty much sums up the game for me, not a bad game, but definitely things to work on. Obviously the most pressing thing about the game is Acie hurting his wrist again, lets hope that its just a bruise. Bibby looks good, it felt like the Hawks made more 3’s in this game than the last 10. This road trip is going to be a killer, but they really need to get Zaza to rebound and play some defense. Woody used the bench well enough last night, but we all believe Solo needed to get sometime. Overall I’m disappointed in the game, but I saw some improvement and chemistry. It was a good game for Josh Smith because he got to see what a serious PF can do and Josh knows he needs to get tougher on the boards and improve his man defense.
Guys, keep working hard and Acie get better quick!

HAHAHA. All of our point guards are hurt. Sounds familiar. Now we have to play Salim or some D-Leaguer at point…What is more hilarious, the fact that 3 out of the 8 teams that make the Eastern Conference Playoffs will have losing records and the Hawks won’t be one of those 3 teams.
Move this franchise to another city, THEY STINK!

richbrave I’m calling you out on this one sir. It seems we have the same philosophy when seeing how this team of highly-talented players are playing out of their element. Small ball tactics is the way to go, just like the Wizards.
I guarantee if you brought in an Eddie Jordan clone this team would prosper. The Wizards will be fine once they get Gilbert and Caron back. I see them as the sixth seed beating Orlando and Detroit. Hamilton will get worked by Stevenson and Haywood has improved to the point where he is a force down low.
You may ask why am I discussing the Wizards? Well, it will be nice to talk about one team that IS going to the playoffs…
….oh yes the Hawks? I guess we can talk about them as well. Didn’t I tell you all immediately after this trade to LOOK AT THE UPCOMING SCHEDULE?
Did any of you heed my advice? No, you were too busy living in fantasy land. Guarded optimism was what I offered, and you all balked.
I told you all this would not be pretty, as once again bad timing plagued Knight’s decision, however good it may have been. They might get away with one at Golden State, but that will be it.
They will come back to Atlanta 4 1/2 games out of the playoffs, and where will you all be then? So join me, Ando, and others as we lament together the fall of an organization.
ANAKIN JOE your destiny awaits you. No need to wait.

I am convinced if Chris Paul or Deron Williams were on the Hawks they would be mediocre point guards on this team. Can you imagine how much Woody would stunt their progress? Plus, the Hawks are cursed, Atlanta is where players come to die.

I think we should trade Marvin Zaza and Salim for a solid big and safety pg. Chills has consistently outplayed Marvin all of 08 and the Richardson kid can flat out score the ball and I like his enthusiasm. All we need is a big and a coach. But I also think we can make the playoffs with what we have now, the trade though makes us contenders for the next 5 years.

First time poster: Observations: Is it me or does it seem that we are severely outmanned in the paint in every game? We are supposed to be “long & athletic” but when you are jumping against front lines with 6’10’-7’ players that are athletic as well, then Horford and Smith get exposed as playing out of position. They are playing hard, but when you have to continually jump while other players can stand there and reach the same height, then the odds are against you of being able to compete consistently in the paint. As far as being the running team that everyone wants, it seems to me that we really aren’t skilled enough to run consistently. Maybe Bibby will change this, but when your bigs keep rebounding the ball and dribbling halfway down the court, it gives the other team time to catch up. I have watched us get outrun be bigger teams over and over because not only do they give the ball to a couple of playmakers to get the ball down court, but they also load their rosters with shooters that spot up and drain the ball over and over, ala the Lakers (Radmonovich, Voyachich?, Fisher, Farmar; Suns: Barbosa, Nash, Hill; Kings, Martin, Ulrich, Garcia) Over time, we just can’t compete with this and it causes fatigue in the legs to continually chase down shooters while battling bigger players every night. Now, our bench is too short to run all game long as some have suggested, and even if it was deeper, Woodson doesn’tlet his bench play consistently enough to find any rythm. What we have friends is a recipe and roster that is set up for inconsistent play and frustration like we have witnessed over and over again. Trading Rasheed Wallace to Detroit and not signing consistent shooters has killed this franchise and now, since we don’t have any amore cap room and no draft picks, there isn’t much hope for improvement. I only hope that somehow Bibby can be the difference maker everyone has been asking for and we can find a coach who is creative enough to find a way to maximize the talent that is on the roster because it’s not happening now. Either way, I’m a life long Hawks fan and will continue to put myself in misery watching this team until one day I may be rewarded with a consistent winner. By the way, for all of you who say that the Hawks have been irrelevant since Dominique, I beg to differ. If not for MJ and the Bulls, the Hawks with Mooke, Smith & Dikembe could have really made some noise in their prime. They consistently won 50 games and were ousted in the playoffs several years by those Bulls, but they played the Bulls well. I always felt that if they had kept that team together one more year, they would have had a shot the season after MJ retired because they were very fundamentally sound and talented even though they were a liitle old then. They just ran into a buzzsaw in the Knicks playing without Ewing the last year they made the playoffs. With a little tweaking, they could have run the table the following year, but instead, they made the worst deal ever to acquire Rider and Jackson from Portland. Oh Well, what could have been. That move set this franchise back years, and we are still trying to climb our way out of that hoe. Sorry for the long post. Just had a lot to say.

DARKRYDER:
Thanks for the post man. Sounds like you and I agree on some things.
A Jordan clone.
Keeping WILLIAMS AND JOHNSON to trade later for a big say in ‘10.
So we’re saying, ZaZa #5, Horford #4, J.Smith #3, J. Johnson #2, and Bibby #1 with AC and Rich for reserves, Childress super #6, Williams where needed. Salim? Where? And the rest. No picks in ‘09.
Remember I’ve just started paying any attention to the Hawks. Only noticed their play one time this year. Still not sure of who plays where on this team. Just learning from you guys and my lady, drmaryb.
Absolutely necessary to work out contracts with Fab Five then trade two and maybe AC or Salim in ‘10 with draft picks for the MAN in the middle. And voila’ you have THE team you all want. Maybe Roy Hibbert in ‘10. Depending on where he is at that time.
But I don’t want that team, ‘cause you’ll be creating internal disruptions to my digestive tract when they pass the Wizards on their way to a championship.

All I gotta say today is if the Hawks owners still approve of Billy Knight and Mike Woodson after their tenures of running this franchise into the ground with Billy’s butt ugly drafts and pathetic trades (except hopefully Bibby) and Mike’s non-coaching abilities then I’m done with this team. We fans have stuck with this team thru 10 years of LOSING. Franshises are supposed to run in cycles with the winning and losing. This team has been on a 10 year losing cycle. Management HAS to go. Oh yeah, I still want a franchise center if you have to trade J.Johson,Childress, and Zaza to get one. I think that player is Ben Wallace but it could be another center. This team does not play with confidence either. You’ve got to beieve you will win every game. This team looks like the city throw together street ball teams that have to play the AND1 all-stars. No chance to win.

Feel better now ugaman? Sounded like you had a lot of venting that needed to be done.
Good points, especially about the Hawks during the Mookie era.
Also, last night was a microcosm of what will happen the rest of the year thanks to Woodson’s coaching. Atlanta is too small to play man to man, and as long as they keep doing that their main guys (Smoove, Horford, JJ) will always be in early foul trouble, thus rendering them ineffective on the defensive end.
Actually there is one way to salvage this, and that’s to obtain a big that can give himself up for six fouls. That’s what Shelden was good for, even if his offense was so bad he couldn’t score in a brothel. He could dispel Al for at least 10 minutes.
If they can’t get anyone else, then there’s only one thing to do: and that’s move Marvin Williams to the bench.
You say how does that help? Simple. Having Al and Zaza in the same lineup will keep opponents somewhat at bay. This way you enable Al and Josh to be the frontcourt tandem that will allow offenses to rely on shooting more. Also, it will enable them to play more man to man without Al ending up in early foul trouble.
As for Marvin, yeah I’ve heard the excuses. “He’s the second pick, it won’t justify picking him or Paul or Deron, etc, etc, etc…”
Yeah Yeah Yeah Whatever. He may be good on offense but he provides no defensive presence whatsoever. He can be the go to sixth man and along with Childress gives Atlanta a formidable bench.
Ok, what to do about inside presence off the bench. This is where Solomon Jones comes in. Don’t give me this crap that he’s not ready. I’ve seen Andray Blatche of the Wizards come off the bench (sometimes start) and give 13/8 sometimes, and he was drafted the same time as Solomon, a second round pick out of high school with the same skill set.
Atlanta can go small ball off the bench, but it’s not wise to start off the game that way.

gonna be a very long off season with absolutely nothing to talk about as we sink further from the playoffs and no draft choices. i guess we can ponder if a real coach would come in or to give the reins to one of the assistants.
team was toast in charlotte and further backed into a corner when the trade came down. needed a change in january and maybe an effort to get the shooter back then rather than the wholesale turnover as the sun was setting on the playoff chances when the move was made. there was no buffer to falling further as the team adjusted to a guard that might be able to help them, unfortunately it is next year.

A good trade to make before today’s 3 PM deadline: Zaza Pachulia for a bag of weed. You get pretty good value for Zaza, and ease the minds of the players and coaches on the team, who are no doubt very stressed out right now. Only question is, who is willing to give up that much for Zaza at this point?

Mike Woodson will probably be fired at the end of the season. I think JJ is hurt, and if he isn’t he needs to lose some weight. Marvin gets more aggressive (on both ends of the court) as the season goes on. He just needs to work on eliminating those mental lapses, such as bad fouls or not boxing out. Josh Smith needs to start moving without the basketball more. Creep along the baseline, or cut into the paint. He’s a good target for the oop. I like what I saw with AC, and he’s returned to early season form. It is quite obvious AC is a great penetration threat, and he’ll become a much better shooter with time. I think Bibby can teach him a lot about the NBA game, and help him with the pick and roll.

Lil E, one of the biggest problems with the Hawks is that NOBODY moves without the basketball. And that is directly a result of poor coaching. Woodson is not creative enough to run an offense where people away from the ball are moving and trying to get open.

This was posted earlier in the blog “We could have traded for Michael Jordan in his prime and still go 0 for 5 against this lineup of juggernauts (Sacramento notwithstanding).”
Your an idiot!! Michael Jordan is better than any 3 players combined on this team. I’m sure the nightly 40 pts, plus above average defense, and one of the best clutch shooters of all time wouldn’t make a HUGE difference. If your going to post stupid comments like this, than no one is going to take you seriously. Hawks fans have been brain washed to settle for mediocre.

A few notes:
— **Please fire Woody, and hire a suitable coach, not just the GM’s buddy. (Woodson was Knight’s playing buddy; Kruger was Babcock’s college buddy.) — Trade Marvin. His game is just too one-dimensional: A mid-range jumper (plus poor rebounder, slow defender, no-handed, clumsey driver, and no 3-point shot). — Sign Jamal Tatum from D-league; he did look solid in pre-season. — What did Salim do to warrant Woodson dumping on him this season? — Oh yeah, yesterday I received my 2008-09 season ticket renewal, with a first payment deadline of 3/15/08. Unbelievable! Greedy, poor-a$$ owners. (At least it looks like I don’t have to worry about ponying up for playoff tickets this year! It ain’t going to happen.)

Mike Woodson continues to show why he is the basketball version of Gregg Knapp. The guy cannot make adjustments. I mean none what so ever. The guy is so baffling that all I can do now is laugh. We actually have a pg but for some reason he allows J Chill to bring the ball up the court and etc. I like Chill but we have a pg on the floor for a reason. Marvin needs to go to the bench asap. This guy shows me nothing. JRich got the Solo and Salim treatment. He plays good only to not see the court again. Woody is a clown. How can you not put the guy back in when he was playing good ball. The Kings went in a zone and instead of putting the shooters on the floor he just said forget it and lets not make any type of adjustments. I was over here shaking my head wondering if Woody is just drunk which would explain him forgetting he actually has a shooter on the bench. PACHULIA IS PURE TRASH Im sick of him. I can’t believe im about to say this but I would rather have Sheldon than Pachulia. I have never seen a coach not reward players for good play. It is like if they play good he sits them. I love Josh Smith as a player but last night he should have been on the bench sitting next to Woody. The kid was taking dumb shots and playing some horrible d. He got frustrated and was not hustling back. It was time to sit him but nope not Mike Knapp. I said before the all star break that the fat lady has sung, did a remix with T Pain and had Puffy doing ad libs saying take that take that. Well unless somehing is done she might be doing a version with Akon. At this point one of the assistants cant be any worse than Mike Knapp.

Thanks DarkRyder. Yes, I do have some frustration that I needed to vent after last night. Now that I got that off my chest, I’ll list what I think would be prudent moves by the Hawks at this venture:
Fire Woodson and find a young, up and coming assistant somewhere that has shown himslef to be creative with rosters: Rick Carlysle comes to mind.
Trade Marvin & Salim to the Grizzlies for Mike Miller. (Miller is a spot up shooter like Marvin, but will shoot from three point land, Marvin doesn’t have that range. Salim does, but is a nightmare on defensive matchups, which Miller could alleviate. You pretty much replace both Marvin & Salim with Miller)
Trade Josh Smith to New York for David Lee & Renaldo Balkman. (I know, Josh’s athletic ability & upside is huge, but he doesn’t play smart and turns the ball over too often, not to mention attitude problems. He also plays terrible position defense and if he can’t block the shot, then he is too often irrelevant on defense) Lee and Balkman are hustle players who are smart. Start Lee at center with ZaZa backing him up and Balkman can back up Horford at the four. Then you have Horford, who reminds me of a poor man’s athletic Tim Duncan matching up well and dominating other PF’s in the east, & Lee filling up the stat sheet with rebounds, blocked shots (not as much a Josh, however), assists, great position defense and consistency.
After this, my rotation looks like this:
PG: Bibby/Law/West SG: Johnson/Richardson/West SF: Miller/Childress/Johnson PF: Horford/Balkman/Solo C: Lee/ZaZa/Solo
Now that, my friends, is a team with skill and heart that consists of shooters and rebounders (dirty work guys). I’d take this anyday of the week if the salary figures worked out. What does everyone else think?
By huh

Horford is too short to block shots? Clyde dude come on you cant be serious. Blocking shots is not a problem for Horford. It is more to defense than blocking shots Clyde. Dude I have seen you make good points before but this block shot thing is rediculous. Horford is just not as big as most centers. Honestly he has not been the problem. The problem is the coaching and its lack of direction.

Najeh: You’re right. I’ve been saying that all season, too. Just like I’ve been saying it’s a shame for Woodson to have 3 years to mold these guys and our team still doesn’t have an identity.
What’s with all this man love for Childress ? He’s a good offensive rebounder and finishs well around the basket. Other than that, his game is pretty weak. What’s worse is..I don’t see him improving beyond the point he’s at (atleast not significantly). However, he would be a very useful piece on a contending team looking for a good hustle player.
Marvin Williams is solid in his 3rd year. Keep in mind that when we drafted him, he was projected to be a 5 year project. He is not one dimensional, and before his thigh injury was in the top 20 for FGA. One dimensional jump shooters don’t get to the line that often. I think once Marvin improves his handle and does some push-ups (he is a tad weak), he will be a force at SF. He is a good team defender, and his man-to-man is definately improving. He is becoming more aggressive on the boards. It would also be retarded to trade away a 6’9” shooter who still has yet to reach his prime. Marvin will be g great in another year or two.
P.S. Marvin is capable of creating his own shot, but he just doesn’t have the handles to do it consistently.

ugaman,
I could live with trading Josh Smith, but we (Hawks) had better get more than Lee and Balkman in return. Smith drives me nuts sometimes, but I think other teams still see him as a potential superstar player. The Hawks might be able to get a lot for him.

Not only that, but each “prophet” claims that EVERYBODY ELSE on the blog has rejected their soothsaying out of hand, and they were the only ones who knew anything. What a pile of ‘tards. Especially the ones who have been around all of five damn minutes.

If you ask me (and you didn’t), Dallas made a mistake. Sure, Jason Kidd is the shiznit, but does he make the Mavs better than Phoenix, San Antonio, and L.A.? Does he even make them competitive enough with those three monsters? Last year, Dallas got sucker-punched right in the nose by Golden State. This year, it could be the same punch…from a team like New Orleans. I’d not want to enter the first round and see CP3 and his crowd coming at me at lighting speed. Man do I still wish we’d drafted that guy….but I digress (and horribly at that).
Dallas also has another problem: they gave up Diop. Stuuuuupid, because you know that Dampier is inconsistent and sometimes foul prone. Not just that, but Malik Allen is just NOT going to be able to replace what Diop was able to do. And what is Dallas’ main worry from the three aforementioned western conference foes? The big guys. In Phoenix you have to deal with Stoudamire and Shaq. In L.A., you’ll battle Gasol, probably Bynum, and even Odom (though not seen as a conventional paint patroller). And in San Antonio, you get Duncan, Oberto, and now Kurt Thomas. Mark Cuban, prepare to throw more temper tantrums. You too, Dirk…but try not to kick the stationary bike this time… a lot of untold injuries have happened that way you know…

Sekou if ever there was a reason to fire Woodson, not that we need any more, it was on full display last night. Watching first year coach Reggie Theus out coach Woodson was was the last straw. His management of the game, his use of personnel, the way he move Artest to different position, and most of all his willingness to try different rotation and substitutions until he got control of the game.
We do not need to trade any more young assets until we get rid of Woodson.

The Hawks are playing extremely impressive basketball, despite the fact that they are losing. Opposing teams have not been blowing the Hawks out of the buildings. With the exception of the last Laker game, the Hawks have been in every game that they could have won, but because of sloppy play (many turnovers) and lapses during the games, the Hawks have walked away defeated in all but the Golden State contest and they almost let that contest slip away from them as well. What does this all mean? THE HAWKS ARE DEFINITELY, UNQUESTIONALBLY PLAYING COMPETITIVE BASKETBALL and they are staying in games until the final buzzer. That is a VAST improvement over last year when the Hawks were getting trashed in almost every ball game. The Hawks will eventually win with the talent that they currently have because the talent that the Hawks possess talent that is superior to every team in the league. Trust me as I know that the Hawks will win the championship soon, if not this year then definitely by next year or the year after, but only if the Hawks can retain all of the talent that they currently have on their roster. The Hawks will eventually prevail as champions and you can take that one to the bank and I am not whistling Dixie as I walk past the graveyard.
