Some New Year ramblings
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
So much to say. Where do I begin?
I’d start with the Rose Bowl, but I’m still in hide out and recovery mode from yet another West Coast letdown by my Wolverines (the plan was to go to bed Monday night and wake up today and do Jan. 1 all over again. Didn’t work. 2007 stinks like dirty gym socks already, @#$@ !#@^# Lloyd #%#$%Q! Carr).
The better coached and better prepared team whacked us for the second straight game, so we deserved what we got (a 32-18 visit to the LA woodshed for those of you who slept through the New Year after partying like it was 1999 on Sunday night). I wonder what it would take to lure Boise State’s coach away, because there is a man who coaches the way it should be done. They played like that game was the only game on earth and their lives depended on winning it. Their performance, as well as my Wolverines’ inept showing, is a stark reminder that there needs to be a playoff for Division I-A college football. There’s no excuse.
But I’m done with that, for now (I promised I wouldn’t internalize these things in ’07 but going 11-0 and then finishing 0-2-tailwhoopins is hard to swallow folks. Nobody likes to talk smack like I do about my Wolverines and now I have to shut my yapper for another year).
I had high hopes for 2007 in general, but they were dashed a few hours in when I heard that Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams had been shot and killed. Sports, guns and death are always intertwined these days and it’s unsettling. It makes you (or at least me) wonder, is it just a confluence of the usual suspects in these sorts of incidents (late nights, clubs and alcohol-fueled bravado) or what? I wouldn’t dare tell anyone where to spend his or her own time. But I can see leaving the clubs alone in ’07, just because.
The end of 2006 was not picnic for the boys from Hawksville. Seven straight losses to end the year, surely you’ve read about it by now. Seven straight. … And they’ve been as ugly as that sounds, everything from blown leads (Chicago and Utah) to wire to wire blowouts (Houston) and feeble attempts at competitiveness (Detroit, Cleveland and San Antonio). It’s like watching the scrawny kid on the bus get smacked around by the school bully every day and knowing that there’s basically nothing anyone can do to stop it, until the scrawny kid decides to bow up and swing back.
The Hawks seem like they’re still deciding if they want to fight back (and yeah, I’m talking about the players, because in the absence of reinforcements –- which don’t appear to be on the way any time soon — it’s up these guys to do something about what’s going on). Their effort against the Spurs Sunday was valiant, if not futile.
But again, I’m wondering about some things as 2007 begins:
— How much more of this will Joe Johnson take before he blows up on a teammate, a coach or a Hawks executive about having to carry the entire load? (I know, nobody has to feel sorry for him on payday and all that noise. But just because you sign for the big bucks doesn’t mean you sign up to be ground into dust in the prime of your career because there isn’t adequate support around you).
— Who else might be ready to explode now that the good vibrations of early November have subsided? No one likes losing for prolonged periods of time. No one.
— Who is the bonehead that decided to give New York (from that diabolically stereotypical VH1 nonsense Flava of Love) her own show? The TV viewing public is just twisted, because we all love train wreck TV. Just another reason I’ll wait to watch until 24 returns to watch anything on TV (besides sporting events and the Food Network, of course).
— I can’t stop thinking about the differences in coaching that were on display during these Jan. 1 bowls (I lied, I’m not done with it). How could any team expect to show up after a month and a half layoff and not bring something new to the table? Don’t you learn from your mistakes Lloyd Carr? Did you think USC tossed the Ohio State game tape in the trash and decided to guess what you were going to do? Just like training techniques, coaching has to be something that evolves with the times, something that adapts to the personnel and something that is tailored to a specific opponent. Lloyd Carr’s arrogance (“We’re going to run the ball, I don’t care how many people they have stacked on the line to stop us.”) has resulted in yet another west coast/big game debacle. I’m going to be one grumpy joker for the foreseeable future based on what transpired in Pasadena last night.
— What do I do now that my fantasy team is shot, at least through All-Star Weekend (Chris Paul and Yao Ming are down and Nenad Krstic is done for the year)? I waived Krstic and picked up Chris Duhon, to help ease the loss of Paul for a few weeks. But I still feel like I need to make some more moves to energize my crew –- I’m 4-5 with an outbreak of outrageous injuries and bad luck (I inadvertently kept Kevin Martin on my bench the first two weeks of the season, losing all of his best early games). Since I’m a fantasy league rookie, I’m relying on one of you vets for some advice.
— How many do you think Allen Iverson is going to put on the 76ers tonight in Denver? I’m guessing at least 40!
— If Florida knocks off Ohio State and Boise State ends up being the only undefeated team in the country, who says the (whatever their mascot is) shouldn’t be touted as the “true” national champs?
— Now that he’s out for about a month, how much are you missing Josh Smith (on-court warts and all)?
— Nick Saban’s a scoundrel, whether he leaves the Miami Dolphins for Alabama or not. He left Michigan State hanging and LSU in much the same way (swearing he wasn’t leaving when it was clear that he was), but at least he left both of those places on a winning note. His professional coaching tail will be between his legs if he runs from South Beach after a 6-10 season. The Crimson Tide and Saban seem to deserve each other.
And finally, in case you have to make a flying trip any time soon, remember to carry your bag on with you. I broke from a season-long tradition over the weekend and checked a bag to both Houston and San Antonio. Big mistake. Huge. It took me over an hour in Houston to get from the plane, get my bag, get my rental car and then get to my hotel -– AT THE AIRPORT! In San Antonio there were already hundreds of bags surrounding all the carousels (courtesy of the nasty weather in Denver and supposedly in the Southeast), so we ended up having to wait 90 minutes for the bags to finally come out. CARRY ON BABY, CARRY ON!

Man sekou i want to talk about the sorry hawks. here is what is going to happen JJ(My favorite player on the team by the way) is the going to probably blow up because this organization is terrible and they do not know how to build around talent. ZaZa Pachulia is a backup Power Foward at best, who is ataring at center. Marvin is not a Power Foward. Josh childress is better than Marvin. After joe, j-chill has the highest basketball IQ on the team. Having Greg Oden on this team is the only way to save this city. but unfortunately i think Billy is too stupid to take him even if we had the chance. And finally get Woody the book “coaching for dummies”

In Ando-like fashion, I’ll remind everyone that I predicted last week that JJ would ask for a trade by the end of January.
I’m missing Smith (and Lue) just because I am exhausted with using injuries as an excuse.
And Sekou, I find it interesting how much you put on Carr’s shoulders when you seemingly place less on the shoulders of Coach Woody. I know they are different sports and college coaches are more influential than professional coaches (especially in guaranteed contract sports like basketball). But the frustration you expressed above sounds like words I have used for Woody. “What were you thinking?” “Why isn’t the team better prepared?” “Where are the adjustments?”
If AI REALLY wants to mess with Billy King, he’d score something like 15 points and dish out 20 assists against the 76ers.
For those interested in stats, take a look at what Shelden does when he gets 25 minutes per game. And also look at what he does on the road, while stinking up Philips Arena.

hello 2007!
not much to talk about in terms of the hawks. even i, am ready to tank the season in hopes that maybe we’ll find a franchise player in the draft.
had to throw out the impressive chik fil a bowl win by my beloved dawgs. 3 straight wins against top 25 teams and it looks like coach richt has this team back on the national scene. 2008= national champions! heh
walter: love the ideas. lets clean house. keep only chills, marv, jsmith, jj and sheldong … get rid of everyone else. finish the season with no wins in the 2nd half. get the best chance of winning the lottery only to see us fall to 4th. then i will officially retire from being a hawks fan!
the hawks have all the necessary parts to run up and down the court… yet the coaching staff refuses to change. please let this inept coaching staff continue to run this current team into the ground so we can start the 07-08 season brand new.
offer billups/bibby a fat new contract. draft oden. sign another viable big man. start billups, jj, marv, jsmith oden……… AND RUN ALL DAY! with of course new coach rick adelman or doug collins running the show..

Yeah, the off-topic stuff is stupid, but then again, Sekou is the worst beat writer in history. His blogs indicate a too-close relationship to team officials and players to tell things like they really are. What a weekly newspaper homer. And, his game stories are the worst type of stylized tripe. Are you writing about basketball games?

The close losses seem to point right at Woodson. The injuries are an issue but these guys have lost so many games in the last minute its hard to just blame the injuries. Billy Knight has done nothing in his GM career to justify more time. He and Woodson deserve an immediate exit. I’m not sure the Atlanta Spirit have the gumption to do it. They also seem hapless. What a disgusting mess.

whatever guys—Sekou I watched your game with 10 usc fans—I rooted for you. I wanted to thank you for making it a fun bowl. Sorry for your loss. I read the blog most days. Don’t say much-most know alot more than I, one thing though if the hawks keep losing they have two #1 one picks right—if there in the top two or three they get the #1 pick from the suns we gave them. I was at the hawks game when they played cleveland(amazing seats 2nd row midcourt—amazing) the hawks seemed to slepwalk through it—yes they played hard at the defense end and really faught for a long time and then they just folded. Shots just would not go down and somewhere along the road they knew the shots would not fall—and they stopped trying. I’m all for another losing season—I know this might be doom saying this—but this draft is knight proof—I mean can Knight pick a bad #1 in this draft with so many great big men? I am saying he will pick someone great—cause he has to—a blind guy trowing a dart at the top ten picks couldn’t go wrong. Who knows—it will be a long season. I’ll still watch. Can’t wait for josh smith to get back. I knew how important he was but now….

Well, this was the year the Hawks were supposed to put it together — Billy Knight basically made it that way by trading this year’s (top 3 protected) draft pick to Phoenix. I would say the Hawks probably have 10 games or so to get it together and get back into the playoff race, or else heads are going to roll, specifically Mike Woodson’s head with Billy Knight soon to follow. I don’t think it’s Woodson’s fault that this team has no post presence on either end of the floor, but the coach is usually the first one to take the fall and I don’t think this case is any exception. Within the next 10 games, this team will have to decide whether a top 3 pick or a playoff berth is more likely.
I have never seen Joe Johnson’s facial expression change, so it’s hard for me to imagine him blowing up on a teammate, but if any NBA superstar was on the verge of a blowup it’s probably him.
Thankfully for me, I slept through the boring Rose Bowl and woke up in time for the amazing Fiesta Bowl. What a performance by Boise State. BCS, where you at?

The other frustrating thing about this mess (ownership) is that the fans have NO voice. The sports talk shows discuss 2 sports, football and baseball. The Hawks are used as a punch line to a joke. There is no outrage with the ownership mess. The Thrashers have amassed talent due in part ot a lower payroll cap for the NHL. It takes less to deliver more talent in that league vs. the NBA. Also, that team is coached by a former Stanley Cup winner.
So we are left to yell at each other all the reasons why we’re miserable. The AJC columnists (no, I’m not talking about Sekou) are much too consumed with Falcons, Braves, Tech and Bulldogs to put the Atlanta Spirit under the hot seat. Wouldn’t it be great for any media outlet to get some of the execs in a room and ask them about this pitiful team? Like what would it take for them to left their finger and make a change at the coach or GM position? If it is better to “err on the side of continuity” as opposed to build a culture of high performance? I’d love someone to ask them how much longer Hawks fans have to be hijacked by their own incompetence? I’d like to know if they plan to offer the few existing Hawks fans anything other than the hope of returning players from the injury list?
But in Atlanta, our voice is mute. We’re left debating old drafts, old trades and the performance of a Big 10 football coach. GO GEORGIA FORCE1

The Hawks are just plane sorry. My old high school b-ball coach could outcoach Woodson. Josh Smith is all hops and no jumper or handle. Josh Childress should just be known as ‘osh because he has an ugly “J.” And I hate to say it because I bleed Tarheel blue, but Marvin Williams… he just isn’t getting it done like he’s supposed. The future might get better for him if he’s trade. But hey maybe Greg Oden can save the Hawks, but sadly I doubt it. Joe Johnson is going to be a one man band for a long time.

I too find it interesting that a college coach gets blamed for so much while pro coaches are seen as innocent bystanders. Then I realized that college coaches have drafts every signing day and pick the personnel they work with while most pro coaches, and certainly Woodson, have to work with what they’re given.
What’s wrong with talking about something other than the dreadful Hawks? I wouldn’t want to talk about them all the time either. Go Sekou.

Proof that college football fans are the most irrational of them all: you complaining about a coach that went 11-2, with the two losses both on the road to top-10 teams. Give me a break. Im sure you werent ripping on Carr when they were 11-0, or when they blew out ND, or when they won the title in ‘97. And the score just doesnt show how the game was close going into the 4th.
I know its hard after a loss, but please try to put things in the context of…after a bad season you went 11-2 with losses to nc title contenders, you’ll be preseason top 3 next year. So quit crying.

OK, it is time for Mike Woodson to go. It just isn’t working. Yes, there have been plenty of injuries, but they have lost 11 of the last 12 and the poor effort in some of those games is ridiculous, not to mention losing huge leads in the 4th quarter. What exactly does it take to get fired? Do they really think this is the guy to take them to the next level?

The Hawks are in dangerous waters. I too have noticed increasingly negative body language from JJ and others.
Even the coach has expressed publicly a lack of “chemistry” with this group. We knew JSmoove, Salim were immature, however, we wrongly assumed Shelden was as solid as the prudential rock. Wrong.
Profound losing will do that. You never want winners to accept losing, but they need to be professionals and accept responsibility as well. We live in an imperfect world, sorry fellas, just a fact.
The truth hurts: Mgt. nor coaches blew repeated double digit leads, missed countless FTs or committed unforced turnover after turnover or jacked up 3s like World B. Free. Look no further than the mirror for your relief. You guys shoot yourselves in the foot!!!
Its even clearer that the coaching isnt in sync with the personnel. Yet, the team has to play and the coach has to find a way to win with the team he has, thats the job, figure it out.
However, night after night, we see the same thing. No adjustments whatsoever, its like Larry Brown with the NYK, he was unhappy so he didnt even try to win.
Now, Isiah has those same kids literally fighting for respect, exact same guys as last year, but now playing with heart and passion. We obviously have a disconnect between the coaches and players b/c apparently ours have quit and do not play with pride or passion.
As I’ve said before, by the end of the 3rd qtr. they “rollover like new meat on a cell block”.
Do we need change? Hell yeah, but it seems the change should first occur within the framework of the present team.
Have we tried all possible combinations, rotations and schemes?
Or have we just thrown our hands in the air and said everybodys hurt and sit there night after night with a stupid frown on our face?

Let us look at the bright side. JChill is improving. He is getting better with each game. Shelden is getting some valuable playing time. He has been in double figure when it comes to rebounds.
I have a plan. I say we move Zaza to power forward. He seems to be a better fit because he is not bruising enough at center. Solomon Jones will be his back up.
Now at center, we get our wide bodies and rebounder there. I know we can play Shelden and Esteban at center. Both are big bodies and should provide us a low post power man down low.
Jchill has earned the right to start. Marvin may be better coming off the bench.

So, Sekou—I see the Top Five has blown up into the Top Nine. I’ll take on everything you’ve thrown:
— How much more of this will Joe Johnson take before he blows up on a teammate, a coach or a Hawks executive about having to carry the entire load?
Maybe it’s time he DID blow up. Jordan, Bird & many other superstars all took their newfound power and got in the face of teammates and/or management who needed to have fires lit under them. Given the egotistical way the Bulls owner threw away the MJ/Pip/ZenMan triumvirate at the pinnacle of it’s success, would Pip EVER have worn a Bulls uniform if Jordan hadn’t spoken up? Bird and Isaiah were both known to give teammates withering looks when one of those sizzling hot passes didn’t turn into an assist. Joe has the credentials. Why not use them?
— Who else might be ready to explode now that the good vibrations of early November have subsided?
My prediction: Josh Smith has been acting and sounding like a leader, IMO. He’s still got an awful lot to learn about the game, but the kid has leadership written all over his personality. Team chemistry does not always mean making nice with your buddies. To me, it’s the happy coincidence of a leader getting ticked and his teammates responding by stepping up.
— Who is the bonehead that decided to give New York her own show?
Amen, but you’re preaching to the choir. Just a natural extension of Jerry Springer and Survivor, IMO.
— Did you think USC tossed the Ohio State game tape in the trash and decided to guess what you were going to do? Just like training techniques, coaching has to be something that evolves with the times, something that adapts to the personnel and something that is tailored to a specific opponent. Lloyd Carr’s arrogance (“We’re going to run the ball, I don’t care how many people they have stacked on the line to stop us.”) has resulted in yet another west coast/big game debacle.
It’s what we southern football fans dealt with for the better of three decades before Steve Spurrier blasted the SEC into the 21st century. It’s an easy recipe for 10 wins a season if you’ve got the hosses. When you’re the big boy on the block (a la Bama in the 70s, Auburn in the 80s), you tend to go with an approach that maximizes the advantage you gain from your superior talent. But that approach does break down once you leave the block and venture uptown, as Lloyd found out.
— What do I do now that my fantasy team is shot?
Can’t help you. I’m blissfully ignorant of the fantasy addiction that afflicts you unfortunates. My own addictions are plenty for me, thanks.
— How many do you think Allen Iverson is going to put on the 76ers tonight in Denver? I’m guessing at least 40!
Highly likely. Just like Nique lit Lenny up in his first game with the Clips.
— If Florida knocks off Ohio State and Boise State ends up being the only undefeated team in the country, who says the (whatever their mascot is) shouldn’t be touted as the “true” national champs?
Ouch. Auburn fan here confessing that my words in 2004 may come back to haunt me.
— Now that he’s out for about a month, how much are you missing Josh Smith (on-court warts and all)?
I miss watching him develop, which is what’s really griping me: not only do we miss the blocks & rebounds, but HE’S missing the court time, just when I had predicted big things for him.
All the same, we Auburn folks would prefer they hired Mike Price back. ;-)

Astro, I love it… I couldn’t agree more about the lack of coverage of the Hawks in the local media.
I get so sick of hoping for a little Hawks talk the day after a game, only to get a 1 minute afterthought with a joke thrown in at the end.
We absolutely have no voice. And I hear people say “why talk about the Hawks, they suck”… well that’s just as good a reason to talk about them as any. It’s the only way to put pressure on ownership to do something about it!
If no-one was talking about the Falcons, it would’ve been real easy for Arthur Blank to not make a move. He had plenty of excuses, injuries, whatever… but the focus is so high, something is expected of this team.
I don’t believe there aren’t Hawks fans in this city. There’s plenty of us that want an ownership that cares about winning!
But then there are those fair-weather fans that’ll only show up when the team starts winning. I’d expect our local media to be a little more forward thinking.

Doc, am I hearing you right? Did you call me self-righteous and a host of other things? Well you have my attention now.
First of all, I’m not suggesting anything other than we should have picked a talented young point guard between all those forwards. That alone would likely have changed future picks and maybe things would have been brighter future-wise. I recognize that any draft pick is a risk. I cannot take away the significance of injuries, no matter who or how many are injured, or for how long. But before the rash of injuries, we were having problems. Did our four game winning streak end because of injuries? In fact, where was our “starting” point guard during those games? Speedy and Lue are only going to get older…and Speedy will only get more injury prone, unfortunately but most likely. I screeched for a while about trying to somehow grab a young pg from Boston to groom. Not even anybody on the blog responded to that one.
Second, are YOU suggesting that I or anyone else not sit in judgement of GM, coaches, and players? I mean, just how are we as bloggers going to unseat Knight or Woody? I suppose we shouldn’t even have opinions or post on these blogs. If that’s the case, then you shouldn’t have anything to say about the owners either. Speaking of which, what’s your “retrospective” opinion on that? I know for a fact that I’ve raved for quite some time about the owners while others were still sticking a fork in Knight and Woodson ONLY. I couldn’t count how many times I’ve said that everything starts with the owners. I’ve even argued that point to Ando from time to time, even when he was pointing out his opinions on Knight’s decisions. But somehow you seemed to have missed that, I guess you haven’t read half of what I’ve posted, only that which makes me look self-righteous to you. Well if you’re going to take frustration and blog-venting as self-righteous preaching, fine.
You know, if you can blame it solely on injuries and focus on owners, then why are the players saying the things they are saying. Is it because they never thought anyone could be injured on this team? No, it has to be something else. Why would Joe say the things he’s saying? Why would Marvin all of the sudden try to take charge and bring some life to the team? Why would he say that they have to dig themselves out of their current situation? Relax Marvin, a rash of injuries is all it is. Everything will be just fine as soon as everyone’s healthy. Right?
You know, I have mentioned from time to time that when things get bad enough, bloggers tend to go after each other. Well I should have taken my own advice/warning.I have to congratulate you, Doc, you snuck up on me pretty good.

I agree. And I do thank Sekou for this blog in which we can at least hear each other’s voices. Although some of us don’t want to hear others, and others don’t want to hear some of us. Oh well. At least you didn’t have to endure that joke of a second half that I suffered through while watching my Jellow Jackets lose their third sure-victory in a row. I mean, is catching a kickoff that bounces right to you too hard ar making one tackle in the open field or at least trying to cover a reciever who runs a pathetic rout to the corner of the endzone really that hard?
Back to the Hawks. I hope Joe does jump down someone’s throat. In fact, he needs to get on his teamates, the coaches, and especially these pathetic jock-riding refs who only give a select few foul calls. It wouldn’t hurt if Woodson would get a couple of Ts and really let some of these clowns have it. I’m tired of watching this crap. When they actually do compete, it is undermined by the officiating.
on a completely off-the-subject-note…I want them to change those uniforms. I’d like to see that yellow trim used a little more in the overall uniform and maybe change it to more of a gold color. And maybe even bring back the old logo.

So, Marvin has ‘decided’ to take a crack at being the team’s ‘vocal’ leader huh? Gosh, SOMEONE needs to step up and fill that void. I’ve thought - and said - for awhile that JJ’s personality wouldn’t allow him to assume the role, so it would be counter-productive to try and force the fit. Must admit that I’ve not observed anything in Marvin’s behavior that would lead to the conclusion that he has such attributes. Suggested a couple weeks back that Josh Smith seemed a ‘natural’ for the role; still fairly sure he’s the ‘child’ who’ll eventually lead us.
Nonetheless Marvin has asserted himself and grasped the reins; we should wish him success. Assuming vocal leadership demands personification of the exhortations. Maybe Marvin’s assumption of the role will be accompanied by more inspired and consistent nightly effort on his part. Maybe it’s the fault of a less than fully healed hand (maybe it’s talent limitations), but his play over the past couple weeks has been much less than inspired.
Hurry back JSmoove!
Happy New Year everyone.

ray all i have said is we can reevaluate personnel choices til we are blue in the face but it doesnt affect the present. i could yell all i want about not getting the man that flash and i wanted loudly on this blog brandon roy putting up 15 a night for portland but looking at the big picture and what bk got and why that being sheldon i can see why. i really dont think that billy had 15 mil in the bank to go out and spend on 2 marginal bigs which we needed so he got something cheaper who looks very much like drew gooden and is cheaper and younger providing a little bit of bulk under the basket but a rook and spent three mil for wright fitting his budget. okay there are some who now yell paul milsaps would have been better, maybe but he wasnt on any radar screeens at the time of the draft and i talked personally to one of the persons and he didnt mention him that night or at all during the draft pre-post(if memory serves me but with ando i will quickly be shown his post from him before the draft but he is the only one heh, heh). that is why i think taking names “missed” through the history of the draft by bk is sounding smart or self righteous. it is all done after the fact.
i look to see that billy had to field a relatively competitive team with a very strict budget, if you cant see that or begin to try to understand some choices then so be it. no championship team in the history of the nba has been put together on the cheap, FACT. it is also why i dont waver from the get go that until this franchise has owners that are willing to pay for a product or find someone who can put the team together on the cheap or coach one (now who could ever fill that charge in the history of the nba) we are stuck.
maybe, there is a coach that could have gotten more out of this team given the injuries. maybe, we should let them run which i advocated last year but in all honesty with the players still standing and the lack of vets i for the life of me am pleased i am not woody trying to make it work. the pool to pull from is very small and maybe if billy had been as smart as us he could have looked into the crystal ball and do what no other gm could do either and predict really who should have gone ahead of everybody else to perfection.
ray, we can talk draft, trades and it is fun but dont take it seriously nor personally if you do take it seriously. love you man, but this blog too is entertainment which we dont have to pay for and dont forget it. the owners dont take it too seriously beyond protecting their investment which is their right, make sure you dont put too much of your id into it either. until then the mantra i have is change owners or make them accountable, at least blank did that, since they dont with the hawks they must be satisfied with their product.
again there is no such thing as a salary cap in the nba, to say that is the goal is their lie and a ploy to keep us stupid, ignorant or naive when you look around at the spending. i mean how can there be only three teams at or under the cap and call it a cap? when they elect to spend, then your product gets better, ala mark cuban cap be damned who changed his organization within months but coughed up the change. i am not an apologist for bk or woody but am not going to get lost in the forrest looking for the trees. the trees are the owners, it has to come from them first.
lets continue with our own form of entertainment here, say what you want, say what you will, dont take it personal. maybe, i was putting you in the sound smart group rather than the sound self righteous group which you quickly heard, assumed or put yourself into and began to defend, hmmm.

What is the situation with the ownership now? Because a decision need to be made about Coach Woodson and Knight. There needs to be some accountability.

Watch Cedric Bozeman make another roster and contribute to his new team. Bad move Billy Knight.

The Hawks were impressive in November. The turn for the worst came when T. Lue when down. The PG duties became Speedy Claxton’s and he has been a flop.

ive been too busy to post, but i will say one thing…
if any of you saw the Hawks team at the beginning of the chicago game and the first 3 quarters of the utah game, you’d have seen what i saw: a team with an extraordinary amount of potential, that really should be better then they currently are.
i just remember seeing those games and being excited because it was the 1st 2 games where the starting lineup was in tact and playing together (speedy, JJ, marvin, smoove, zaza), and they looked good together!
marvin and smoove were co-existing fine, speedy was racking up assists and being a great floor general, jj was solid as always, etc…
as bad as the hawks are now, i still believe they can easily play .500 ball with a healthy team (something that hasnt happened this season, or may never happen as long as speedy is our pg, jj plays 45 minutes a game, marvin keeps getting owned ttaking the ball to the rim, etc)…
anyways, a little bit of tempered optimism for yall…
gosh, oden would be nice

Jus’ look at you all. Blah, blah, blah. You all sound like flucking idiots!! Bloggin’ week after week about what would make the Hawks better. Who needs to be hired/fired, traded for/cut. If your wife under performed like the Hawks, week in and out. Would you try to figure out what you could add to make her better? Or would you drop her a$$ and find a new wife? I think that most of you losers would try figure out the right combination to make her love you, based on your comments about the Hawks!! They suck! ADMIT IT!!

How is Woodson still coaching the Hawks? How is Knight still the GM? I thought Woodson may have turned a corner at the beginning of the season, but this latest stretch is textbook awfully-coached futility. Anyone been watching what’s going on in Memphis since they fired Fratello? 144 points?!? And all the interim coach is doing is letting his boys run and calling a few timeouts. Woodson is far too connected with losing for these guys. He refuses to adapt the offense around our players’ strengths. The kids need a change of scenery. I still believe this team can chase 40 wins this year. Screw the Oden sweeps. Must I remind you all that the Hawks still hold the longest drought of not drafting an All-Star in North American pro sports (22 years). Also, we’ve been out of the playoffs forever. In fact, The Hawks trail only the Golden State Warriors (12 in a row) in terms of the most consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance with seven in a row. A draft pick, a trade…none of that will do crap with Woodson and Knight at the helm. Both need to be fired. Woodson should have been canned yesterday. Knight should have been toast this summer after Diaw won comeback player of the year and Paul took ROY. Woody and Knight have been given more than enough time to prove themselves and have failed miserably. Get Woody gone before the damage he inflicts on our young talent becomes irreversable. Our talent is noteworthy with massive upside potential. I Love J-smoove, JJ, J-Chill, Marvin, and even Zaza-who’s only 22. I would love to see what these guys could do with a halfway decent coach.

It hurts to listen to you bloggers say such hurtful things about my beloved Hawks. Don’t you know that we’re in a rebuilding year?
By 2054, all of this will be ironed out.
