Doctors drain fluid from Noor’s back

Doctors admitted Noor al-Zahra of Iraq to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Wednesday morning to drain fluid from the baby’s back.

Surgeons performed a life-changing operation on the Iraqi infant last week, a month after soldiers with the Georgia National Guard encountered her while raiding a house near Baghdad. Doctors removed a mass of skin from Noor’s back and repaired a damaged portion of her spinal cord.

A follow-up appointment Tuesday revealed fluid on Baby Noor’s back, the hospital said in a statement. In Wednesday’s procedure, doctors hope to determine whether her spinal cord is leaking fluid or whether the fluid is the result of post-surgery swelling.

Doctors continue to monitor Noor for signs of a fluid build-up in her brain, a finding that would trigger a second surgery to insert a shunt.

I don’t understand why Baby Noor is receiving so much attention when there are children in the USA that need “free” healthcare. Isn’t this publicity a slap in the face to Americans that need help?

Our soldiers are in Iraq fighting for our freedom. If trying to give an Iraqi baby a healthy future makes them feel like what they are doing is worthwhile, then we should be honored to help that baby! God bless our military!!

I dont think Stacy is saying dont do it. I think she is correct in saying there are American children that need the same about of love and attention that is being given to Noor. She is right it is a slap in the face when children here can get that same care.

Stacey It was my Platoon that found the child. Have you hear the phase “If not me, then who?” Well Stacey, if a simple infantryman can step up and lean forward in the foxhole and make something happen all the way from Iraq, imagine what someone could do if they were in the US and tried to make it happen for some American child. It is it to say but harder to do. The slap in the face is that there are few people who are willing to step up and do something. When was the last time you went out and found a child in need and did something? Yes, you are one person but so am i. With the help of others the mission can be done. All i ask is to help only one child, just one. We helped one, if you and your friends helped one and if Dexter and his friends helped one and so on, and so on…. It is not that hard. Take the time. Give the time. Can you do that? We did. The only thing we did was to get the ball rolling. Helping people is what the American people do best. To include you and Dexter. I know it feels like a great task but just ask. They can only say is “no”. Ask enough people and someone will step up and help you with the task. Good luck on finding that one child. Remember that you can fix only one thing at a time. With this in mind, maybe we can fix more than one child. Your humble servant michael

Well-said Sgt. Sonen. The world would be a better place…

Look at how many people fell-over themselves to help Baby Noor and would do it again if given the chance!

I support this totally. If we had more people like this, OUR world would be a better place. It’s amazing how doing something like this can make a difference.
