A patch of honor for combat
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
It is nothing more than a small piece of cloth with an Army unit’s insignia affixed to the right sleeve of a soldier’s uniform.
But for soldiers everywhere it signifies that those who wear it have spent at least 30 days in a combat zone.
In a recent ceremony at Al Asad Air Base in western Iraq, members of the Savannah-based 1st Battalion, 118th Field Artillery Regiment, received their combat patches.
The patches are from the 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart, the unit under which the 48th Brigade Combat Team served during its first six months in Iraq.

Congratulations to the soldiers of the 48th Brigade on getting their well earned combat patches.
The next question is what is going on with their Combat Infantry Badges? I’ve noticed some of the troops in the photos wearing it but no story on that.

My husband is a part of the 48th. He was told there were not enough bagdes for everyone. So, we have ordered enough for his platoon. You may want to do the same if your soldier does not have one.

We are proud of all the men and women in the military especially those that have been serving in Iraq. They all need to be awarded a special insignia. They shouldn’t have to be ordered by their families. They should be awarded by their leaders and should be provided to the leaders for awarding the military men and women. We continue to pray for all our military. Glenda Cowan

Irregardless of who paid for the patches they were well deserved and very proudly presented to the men and women who have been risking everything for us. Congratulations soldiers on a job well done. Continue to be thankful, serving your country with honor. Hoohay!
