1SG Bobby Barnes, As we gather at mama & daddy’s house next Thursday for our usual Thanksgiving Day meal, there will be a great void. Your presence will be missed so much, I don’t think you really know how much we all miss you.
Without you there to carve the turkey, you know I will end up ripping it to shreds!! But, that’s not the only reason we will miss you.
We think of you always and pray for your safety and that of the other members of your unit.
On this particular Thanksgiving Day, we will thank God for watching over you and keeping you with us, even if there are miles between us.
I will send you a note later and let you know how good your piece of Peanut Butter cake tasted, and yes I will volunteer to eat it for you!!! Take care of yourself, stay safe, and stay strong so that you can come home to us soon.
Love you, Janet (and the rest of the family)

We had wonderful Thanksgiving dinner plans. The best part was our children would have their daddy at the table and I could look into the eyes of the man I love on Thanksgiving but 24 hours before he was to leave camp they told him his leave was canceled. I would like to say thanks to the army for the heart break. We were so close to R&R that we were not prepared for this emotional crash. The holidays are just not the same without the one you love and my heart goes out to all the other families that endured the same heart break. ~A disappointed wife~

Hi Everyone. Just wanted you to know that we love you here in the U.S. Thank you so much for all that you have done and what your are doing. We miss you and need you to come home real soon! May the God in Heaven guide you on what steps to take and what decisions to make, so that you can come home safely. Please remember this: God has not given us(his Children) the spirit of fear, but of Power, of Love and of a Sound mind. My prayer to you is that you keep a sound mind, and that everything will be well with you!!!!
One more thing, know that you mean the world to me because you are my brother and/or sister. Read your bible everyday and pray, I promise that it will be a brighter day, and soon it will all be over.

Thanksgiving is about giving thanks and taking time to reflect on what things in your life are you most thankful for. This Holiday I want us all to count our many blessings that we are all so fortunate to have health, life, food etc. We tend to forget the things that really matter and focus on things that have no value and conform to the materialistic fortunes that we incur. Take a moment of silence and meditate in whatever form is appropriate for the soldiers. Although they are away from home, and their families help them through this deployment asking for courage and strength through this war, and bringing them home in the same body, shape and mind that they left with. The true blessing that can’t ever be taken from any of us is the blessing of family and the ability to love and be loved. This Thanksgiving I will be Thanking God for my fiancé Spc, Demetrius Herring, who is the love of my life and my inspiration. I am thankful for his courage and his patience his strengths, and his sense of understanding.
I Love You Baby LaToya Johnson

We all must pause and send our heartfelt best wishes that all of them who serve in a far distant land, Happy Thanksgiving. It is our prayers and hope that all of them be able to join us if there is a chance they can, we welcome all of them who has that right and are lonely. May each of them know our hearts remain with them and we shall never forget their great leadership which they remain on the front lines, keeping our soild free for so much of blood shed. Please give him the strength and courage to go on when the odds are against him, to hold his head up high when nobody else can. And to return home to the ones he loves just as soon as Worldly possible. We were recently disappointed by the fact your leave was moved to a week after Thanksgiving. And we will not have Thanksgiving without you My Love, we will wait as long as it takes. Happy Thanksgiving to every man and woman serving this United States, everywhere. You will be missed and thought of by all on this upcoming Holiday. My son, Spc. Lanny J. Keith is in Tallil, Iraq and will be missed by every one of us on Thanksgiving just as he is missed by us every single day. Don’t worry baby, we will bake pumpkin pies for days when you come home! Since you were the life of the party when we all get together, it will be pretty boring without you - take care and remember how proud of you I am, as we all are and how much you are missed and especially how much you are loved.
I love you, Mom Toni Keith

I hope that the 48th has the best Thanksgiving that you all can possibly have. Everyone is always in my thoughts and prayers…but most of all I think of my soldier, SPC. Joseph Price. Josh and I really miss you more now than ever…and Thanksgiving and Christmas will not be at all the same. We go on for you b/c every day you are separated from me is one day closer to your return. I am so thankful this Thanksgiving that God gave you to me, Joseph. I thank Him for your safety and well-being. That is all I can hope to ask for, is that God will watch over you and bring you home safely. Our love has always been strong, and it will stretch across the ocean and I will be tucked in your heart as you are in mine. Not a day goes by, not a minute, not a second that I don’t think of you. I am proud of all you do, and I will always be proud of you. To all the soldiers: be safe, stay strong, and know how much you all are supported and loved. Joseph Price I love you. Happy Thanksgiving to all…Come home soon!!! We are all counting the days!!!!

I would like to thank all the brave men and women serving this great nation of ours. Unfortunately, hardship will all go hand and hand with blessings no matter where you are in life. Some of live in the valleys and others remain on the mountain tops. I am thankful for all of you and the standing in the valleys that your enduring. Especially, I want to thank my husband, Spc. Russ Bentley for the way he serves his country but more importantly the way he serves our God. He has been sick the entire time he has been there but still “LOOKS FOR THE GOOD” in everything. If it is 100 degrees out, atleast it isnt 130 any longer for example. Baby, I love you so much and our prayers are with you. We save a drumstick for you and a side of turkey jerky. Love you bunches and bunches, Pam and the kiddos

To all of our troops — y’all are definitely on the very top of our list of “things to be thankful for”. THANK YOU SOOOO much for all the sacrifices that you make on a daily basis for our freedom and protection. We think about you and pray for you daily. Even though you & your families will miss each other during the holidays, we hope that y’all will be able to fully celebrate each special occasion when you come back home — don’t even worry about it not being on “the exact day”! This Thanksgiving will be a very special and memorable one for you, in its own way, for you will “break bread” with your “other family” over there — the ones who watch your back, while you watch theirs. Keep the memories of the day in your hearts, so that you can share them with your children, grandchildren, and future generations. Each one of you are heroes… truly the “FINEST IN FIFTY STATES”!!! We salute you!!! BIG “HAPPY THANKSGIVING” HUGS all around!

Greetings,
My family, four children ages 4-10, pray each night before supper for our troops that keep us safe and for their safe return. We support the mission in Iraq 100%.
Here is what I read to them before the Thanksgiving meal (which can be found on many government web sites).
How Thanksgiving Day got started
Lincoln’s Declaration of Thanksgiving as a National Holiday, 1863
It is the duty of nations as well as of men to owe their dependence upon the overruling power of God; to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations are blessed whose God is the Lord.
We know that by His divine law, nations, like individuals, are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world. May we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war which now desolates the land may be a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole people?
We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven, we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown.
But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.
Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.
It has seemed to me fit and proper that God should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice, by the whole American people. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November as a Day of Thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens.
(signed) A. Lincoln October3, 1863

This year as I stop and think of what I am thankful for, I will silently send a prayer of thanks to each and every soldier serving with the 48th in Iraq. I am thankful for my freedom, for being able to wake up every morning and know that I am safe because you all have made the choice to protect this great country of ours. You are all heros, the bravest of the brave and you deserve America’s undying gratitude for the job that you are doing. I will pray for the families who have lost their soldiers, my heart goes out to you. My baby brother is in Iraq this holiday season and I pray that God sees fit to bring him home safe, so that next Thanksgiving we can hold hands around the dinner table and be thankful that we live in the strongest country in the world. Thanks for being my brother, Matt and for helping to keep me safe. I love you.

SSG BRIAN BOLT, 108th AR, 48th I sometimes feel my heart will burst from wanting to hear from you so much I can’t explain the words of how I long to feel your touch There is no way I can convey this emptiness inside That seems to tear my soul to shred’s as time goes swiftly by If I could merely hold you near for just a little while If I could simply talk with you or only see you smile To have you look into my eyes and wait to hear you say Something that would help me to take this pain way If I have to wait forever I guess thats what I’ll do For me, it will be worth it to finally be with you!
I know we both have alot to be THANKFUL for, but in times like this it difficult to see without a fog…..I want to wish you and the guys a Very BLESSED THANKSGIVING!! All My Love & Prayers, ~Regina

To all of of Troops serving for our country: Words alone cannot express the gratitude for the sacrifices that you are making for this country. Our hearts and thoughts will always be with you regardless of what some people say. You are the bravest and without you, this country would not be what it is. Be safe and know that we are thinking of you on this American holiday

Thank you for your sacrifice. Many do not see your service as for Americans, only for other countries. But, after 9-11, we all should know this is in part for us.
I pray to God through Jesus for you daily. May He give you a special blessing this Thanksgiving.

To My husband and my best friend we laughed half heartedly that this would be a piece of cake and you would be back in a year no problem. Baby did we fool ourselves didn’t we. I am so proud of you the kids all say hi!!!All four of them can not wait till after Christmas the kids even offered to give up all Christmas toys just to be there to pick up at the Airport before the new year. Can you belive we have three teenagers now? I got a vechile borrowed big enough for me you and all the kids so we can all be there when you get home even if it is for just 15 days. If we don’t get a private moment between our families and the kids I don’t care I just want to touch your face and know even for a moment your safe.. I love you and miss you most…Heart and Soul Always..Happy Thanksgiving

To SPC Allen Keith. I love you so much, and I really wish that we could spend Thanksgiving together, but we will have our own thanksgiving celebration when you come home. I might even try to cook green bean casserole (or maybe I’ll jsut leave it to mom) When I think of all the things I am thankful for, I am most thankful for the fact that God chose you as my wonderful husband. I love you so much, and I look forward to growing old together. The good news is that after this year, we will never have to spend another Thanksgiving apart!! To the soldiers of Troop E 108th Cav- I find great comfort in the fact that even though my husband cannot spend Thanksgiving at home, he will still be with his family. You guys are his brothers, and I am so Thankful for that. Take care of eachother, and thank you for all that you do.

To Sgt. Johnathen Eggleston and the fine young men of 108th AR Charlie Company. I cannot express to you my family’s deep appreciation for the tremendous service and sacrifice that you have given in the name of your country and state. All Georgians should be deeply proud of you! While this is the time of Thanksgiving, the greatest feelings and expression of the Thanksgiving spirit will be when we see you all safely come home to your families and love ones. Thank-You again and may God be with you always.

My brother spent a year in Iraq so I know what your families are going through every day and especially this time of year. I hope they serve you as well as they did while my brother was there. He said they had an awesome spread for Thanksgiving but it was not like being at home. Hold your head up high, be careful and come home soon!
