Welcome back Mr. Hirschman. I read this article last night and am glad a link to it was placed on the blog. It is informative. I learned the First Army is at Ft. Gillem and helping to training our soldiers for combat in Iraq. Surely this Fort is important to the defense of this Nation and we should all ask the President to let it remain.Since we are in Iraq our soldiers need to be trained in defense against anything the insurgents will use. PLEASE NO CONTROVERSY OVER THIS STATEMENT. IT IS AN OBSERVATION AND AND MY OPINION,

Again, thank you, Mr. Hirschman, for an informative article. I hope we see more of Moni Basu’s articles soon. She is doing well.

I agree with you “my opinion”, they need to keep Ft. Gillem open and running. It is a shame that they are closing so many bases for the all mighty dollar. The cost is much higher which is human life, and there is no price tag on that one. This whole article was very informative as well as sobering. The insurgents are such cowards but I guess we already know that. The deaths of so many soldiers are a daily reminder how all is not fair in love and war. God Bless all the Soldiers, thank you for your sacrifice!!!

My son, Sgt. Marc A. Davis, has called me several times a week and has sent me some fantastic pictures. If Marc should read this, I want him to know how how terribly proud I am of him. He hasn’t received much mail, except from all of my friends and the people I work with. If anyone could drop him a few lines, I surely would appreciate it. His address is Sgt.Marc A. Davis A-Co - 2/121, 48th BCT, APO AE 09372. Marc, I am so proud of you, you’re my pride and joy! Love, Momma
