G.I.G.O.

On a daily basis, you are overloaded with misinformation from advertisers, authors of books and articles, and even your friends and family as it relates to your weight loss and fitness goals. Sometimes, those closest to you will try to drag you down and tell you “what you’re doing is worthless.” When you hear things like this, use this acronym to remain positive.

GIGO: “Garbage In, Garbage Out!”

Anytime you read or hear something negative, repeat to yourself “Garbage In, Garbage Out!” This may sound silly, athletes and other successful people use similar methods to reach their goals. It is also something that sports psychologists and lifestyle managers instruct their clients to do.

There are a lot of enemies out there. People who will tell you things like “all you have to do is swallow this little pill before going to bed at night and you’ll lose all the weight you want,” or “do 5 minutes of this video each day and you’ll lose that big stomach.” You may have people tell you that what you are doing is worthless. It is your choice to believe it.

Remember, you may not be in control as to what you see or hear, but you are in control of how you respond.
