If I can take the first step/punch you can!

My goal is to walk the 1/2 marathon in November. I have been tested, measured, weighed (my favorite - yeah right) and stuck with needles. I am with trainer, Sara Baker and acupuncturist, David Hobb. I meet with a psychologist and dietitian this week. I am excited about my journey to a better life.

While waiting to hear from the AJC I started working out at Fitness Factory and with trainer, Creed, doing boxing.

I have decided instead of having an image of a face on the punching bag the image needs to be unhealthy food that I eat and keep punching the bag till I knock out all of it from my body, mind, and soul. I plan to knock out my unhealthy life and will with the help of Sara and her team. Along with my faith in God, and support of family and friends.

If you need/want a healthy life take the first step or punch, it only takes one to start! Mine was writing the AJC!

Laura, congratulations to you on this amazing opportunity! Even without the AJC, you started on a journey to better health on your own… watch out George Foreman! May you be an inspiration to others as they consider a bold move like yours. Good luck at reaching your goals!

Laura, that IS an awesome start. It’s good to understand that it takes more than “just dieting” or “just exercising.” There are multiple pieces to this puzzle, as I am learning mysef. I’m behind you all the way!

We are with you all the way on this one! Not only do we know how many times you have seen the movie Rocky, we were also with you when you purchased the “oh, so precious” pink boxing gloves. We certainly qualify as two of your “biggest supporters.” We love you and plan to be by your side on the walk in November. Michael and Matthew

Laura, I am truly impressed with your goals for better health and fitness. You definitely have my support and I look forward to seeing you run the race in November. You can put my face on the punching bag occasionally to give you some more inspiration to punch really hard. Keep it up!

Laura,

Your favorite niece is so excited for you. I know you can do this! It will be hard but will power and discipline will get you through it. Once you start seeing results you will be motivated to work harder and harder until you achieve your goal. I am always ready to hit the gym - so call me:)

Here are a couple of things I found that work for me… I surround myself around healthy people, under no circumstances do I keep junk food at my house, when I get board I do something active instead of eating, don’t be afraid or embarrassed to tell someone you don’t want to eat a certain thing or go to a certain place to eat because your on a diet, and lastly never make excuses - you can always eat healthy no matter what - just prepare what you will eat each and every day - take a cooler in your car if you have to! One thing I constantly remind myself is, “Do I really want to eat this (something unhealthy) - for 5 minutes of pleasure?” And most of the time I am able to keep my temptations in check!

I am here for you 100% of the way. Good luck - I know this is your time to shine.

Love ya lots,

Kat

Wow, Laura, I’m impressed! I’ve finally started doing more to be healthy in the last year, particularly in the exercise area, but I’ve yet to do any kind of walk or run ‘race’. I’m inspired! The boxing sounds great, too. You hear this stuff about exercise, diet, etc., ‘taking care of yourself’ all the time, but I really can tell that I feel better on so many levels since I’ve made the commitment to stay focused and have managed with the support of my family/friends to stay with it, no matter how small my steps. I wish you that success as well. Looking forward to hearing more about it!

I’m so excited for you, Laura! I can’t wait to see the progress you make over the next few months. You definitely have the support of your friends and family, but most importantly your faith in God. I know the SAM Council is definitely behind you as well. Good luck!

We all need to be the best we can be in ALL areas of our life - when Katrina hit, I knew that if I had lived down there that I would have been dead - not from the storm but having to walk for miles in the heat - I think of that often and use it as motivation to be the best that I can be - so be a Nike Girl and ‘Just Do It’ and be proud of yourself when you cross the finish line of the “race” - as they say just keep on keeping on and soon you will be there and we will see a new you!!

Laura, I am so excited and proud for you at this wonderful opportunity. I pray that through the strength of Jesus Christ, you will achieve your fitness goals. And may you continue to glorify God (as you always do) throughout your journey. In the words of Eric Little in Chariots of Fire: “when I run, I feel God’s pleasure”. May you also feel God’s pleasure and strength and encouragement over the next few months, as you strive toward your goals. I wish you all the best!

What a great opportunity you have! From reading your blog, it appears that you have many supporters, me included. To plagiarize from “The King & I”, you’re gonna “box” that burger & fries right out of your life!! The next time I see you, I’m looking forward to seeing “less” of you thanks to all this hard work….Keep it up, we are all cheering for you-

Laura, How brave of you to face this challange so publicly and to set such an amazing example for all of us who have our own “punching bags”. Your faith will of course ensure your ultimate success even though that success may not be exactly what you thought it was going to be in the beginning. I will keep you in my prayers. You go girl!! The entire staff at Fitness Factory is behind Laura Kay! Go, Laura go. As owner of the club, I can remember when Laura walked in the door. Mostly filled with exceptionally fit men, the club at that time might have been intimidating. Everyone welcomed Laura and is cheering her on. She quickly found out the friendliness of everyone there. Laura will stick her neck out to help anyone. It takes courage to do what Laura is doing. Laure…..you’ll be loved and supported all the way…..from your home base….FITNESS FACTORY www.Ffatl.com Jerry Edwards
