Williams takes Senate post

Senator Tommie Williams (R-Lyons) was elected president pro tem of the Senate this morning. It’s the number two position in the Senate.

Williams was first elected to the Senate in 1998 and became Senate majority leader in 2005. In that position he served as the formal leader of the Republican caucus in the Senate.

Williams, 53, who owns a pine straw business, promised his colleagues this morning that, “I will not use this position for my own personal gain.”

He focused his comments on the need to improve education in Georgia. “Folks, we have to make some drastic and radical policy decisions to catch up,” Williams said. “We can’t wait until a non-election year,” he said.

The immediate past president pro tem of the Senate, Senator Eric Johnson (R-Savannah) is now running for lieutenant governor.

Well that settles it. Surely a dude that makes a living selling pine straw knows what’s best for the state.

What’s next? Someone that drives a turnip truck?

Get me out of this state!!!

Um, dude, isn’t 2009 a non-election year? What year is Tommie Williams in?

What, selling pine straw make an individual less able to run government. I would much rather have someone who has scraped out a living doing something productive than a bunch of lifelong, generation after generation politicians. And I can give you directions on how to leave this state LEROY.

Hmmm….so you are implying that someone who runs a business is too stupid to lead? I thought that was the American ideal. It sounds like you think our leaders have to be executives or administrators, or,…..lawyers. It also sounds like an elitist attitude.

I say, Good Luck, Mr. Williams. I will give you the chance to do your job, and , as a citizen, I will do mine: provide feedback, support, and voice my concerns about what is happening in the legislature.

Be careful Williams is a snake in the grass. He has ambitions and will sell you all to get what HE wants. Do not think for a minute he has Georgias best interests in mind.
