Brooking might be back with Falcons
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I think Brooking will be back. Sounds like the Falcons and Brooking tried to reach an agreement right up until the deadline Friday. That tells me he doesn’t really want to leave Atlanta and the Falcons would be interested in re-signing him.
I think he’ll test the market and see that there’s not a lot of interest and then reach a deal with the Falcons. That way he can retire in Atlanta after being with the same team his entire career, pretty remarkable these days.
As I said in my blog last week, he’s not worth $8.3 million, but he does play with heart and that should be worth something.

atlanta will probably be stuck trying to re-sign brooking because their is no depth in free agency and the top linebackers in the draft are either out of our reach or 3-4 types. i think we may have sung the praises of tom dimitroff too soon. you give up a draft pick for foxworth and then dont sign him?? you knew you were not going to re-sign boley but instead of playing nicholas you play coy wire??? atlanta like it or not is going to have to make some big moves in free agency to contend next season. ron bartell, sean jones, rocky bernard just to name a few. oh and the defense needs all of the work and you go out and sign l.j. smith??? atlanta lost lawyer milloy, keith brooking, dominque foxworth, grady jackson and michael boley, if dimitroff thinks he is gonna replace 5 starters with this draft class he has fallen off his snow board.

I just read that Foxworth is headed to Baltimore to work on a deal.

We gave up a 7th round pick for Foxworth, who cares…he signed a 4 year 28 million dollar deal with 16.5 million guaranteed…we let him walk because of that…he had a ridiculous asking price, and in my opinion, Foxworth is not worth 7 million a year…Brooking will not be back, lawyer was old and really didn’t play that well this year, grady is just plain fat and lost the push he had a few years ago because he’s old, and boley was a one year wonder…if you look at us now, we’re still in great shape, I don’t know why you’re criticizing Dimitroff, he brought us to the playoffs, this guy is from the patriots, he knows what he’s doing, and no, he isn’t thinking he’s going to replace 5 starters through the draft because that’s absurd, let him be the GM, and you can continue being the fan

first of all dc, you said who cares about a 7th round pick if i remember correctly tom brady and matt cassel were late round picks so anytime you give up a draft pick for a player you should have a plan to keep him. would the contract have been this high if they extended him during the season??? the starters that we let go were old and losing steps but as i said atlanta is going to have to make big moves in free agency to contend. if foxworth price was absurd do you think a player of his caliber will sign for less???? you think we are in great shape because we let players go…who is going to replace them einstein players that sign for just the amount of money that you think is justified. and i appreciate you giving me the privilege to continue being the fan

Well said dc…agree 100% How we’re praising TD too soon after where he helped bring this franchise from the year before is an unbelievably negative “half-empty” statement. Sounds a lot like the statements that were made after TD’s first draft about picking Ryan instead of um, what’s his name, I’ve forgotten it now. After that Ryan pick, that draft, helping make the decision to bring in Coach Smith, and seeing the things he helped accomplish in New England you’d think even the “average” NFL fan would believe in TD. We may not win the Superbowl as fast as some want and will hit a few bumps in the road that will bring about more negative nancys, but I believe the makings (finally!) of a real solid football team and franchise are in the makings here in Atlanta and this KB move is an example of that. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made to move along in the right direction. Rome was not built in a day ya know…
GO FALCONS!!!

Please oh Please DO NOT resign that slow son-of-a-brooking.
Falcons- please move on! If you can’t see that he’s not worth it then A.Blank has a bigger issue on hand with his FO personnel.
Brooking is garbage! Get it thru your heads. He will not become your Great White Hope/Savior for the ATL like the Falcons org wanted him to be. Just another wanna-be white player Blank & Co are trying to keep just to appease his North Atlanta fanbase, which is the reason the Falcons will never-ever be winners.

As I recall, if Foxworth had been resigned, we would have had to give Denver an additional draft pick in this years draft. I can’t remember which round but a 3rd or 4th rounder seems to come to mind. I am no GM but I learned last year not to call into question what TD does. Until we see what this year will bring, I can’t sell TD short. He made a believer out of me.

m2p your information is inaccurate atlanta would not give an additional pick, instead if he were re-signed the 7th round pick would then become a 6th round pick. i have alot respect for what dimitroff has done in atlanta but if certain moves dont make sense to me i will respond to it like it or not.

FFOSHNL…..? Haven’t learned what exactly? That they need to get rid of all white players on the team if they want to win? I mean we all know how good football teams are that have no diversity… Some people say the darndest things.

Brooking is gone? Only about ten years too late. Yeah he tackles well enough, but when are those tackles made? Not in the back feild that’s for sure. No sacks, no interceptions, not worth the money. Never has been.
Now if we could just get rid of Sonny and Saxby.

I agree alot with many things that cutter said…but i think you’re not confident enough in dimitroff. I think it’s clear he’s ready to build through the draft…and not to win next year…but within the next couple of seasons.
With that said…the falcons at this point have lost or have not yet signed FIVE starters from last years defense. I personally thought they should’ve bought boley back…i think he’s got talent. I WAS EXTREMELY UPSET AT SEEING FOXWORTH GO…he’s very young and has a tremendous upside. But as someone else stated…for that kind of money - it’s risky. I think Jackson will step in and should be alright. WE STILL NEED A SAFETY DESPERATELY…NO MIKE BROWN - someone who actually plays a full 16 game season. Brooking needed to go…and i hope they dont bring him back. Personally i think we should’ve held on to Milloy…because our secondary right now looks horrible…along with our LB’s…
It’s going to take a few seasons before you see this defense get to where dimitroff wants to take it. Let’s hope he can make some things happen in the draft and get something going this april.
SAFTEY - Missouri - Moore : someone the falcons are eyeing and sounds like a gamebreaking safety. If we can snag him at 24 — it’s a steal because he was set up to be a Top 10 pick if he came out a year earlier.

Hey guys, TD is doing a good job, despite losing Foxworth to free agency. By the way, Foxworth is from the state of Maryland, so he probably wanted to play in his home state, he played at the UofMaryland also. TD got us the Iceman, Lofton, Harry Douglas, Sammy Baker, and Thomas Decoud, who will fight for a starting safety spot. We will get a Linebacker in round 1, and Tightend in round 2. Remember, “THIS IS ALL PART OF THE PROCESS.” The offensive line will remain in tact, and don’t be surprised if we add a Center in round 1. Brooking will be back, as a backup, at no more than 1.5 million leaving space to grab help in Free Agency. Trey Lewis will replace Grady Jackson, and I am telling you Jamal Anderson will be much improved.

I think Keith Brooking will re-sign with the team—and continue to be the most overrated, overpaid (even near vet-minimum), fraud of a linebacker in the league.
Nothing but a rah-rah ankle-grabber—always has been; always will be. His toughest talk was during either pre- or post-game interviews. His brand of “leadership” was sitting alone on the bench, aways from his teammates (who consistently did NOT vote him team or defensive captain; from Keion Carpenter years ago to Milloy last year).
Still sheep-headed? Well, remember when DeAngelo Hall melted down at home against the Panthers? Remember who tried to talk sense into him or calm him down? It was Alge Crumpler (off of the sideline). Your invisible “leader” was nowhere in the picture. Nowhere. How sad and pathetic!
It was the COACHES who gave him the title and the ‘green-dot’, sheep. Never confuse the two or try to spin it any other way.
His impact on the game was de-minimas; his “tackles” can easily be replaced. He does little besides grab ankles and jump on piles.
I don’t know which is more humorous: watching good ol’ Keith “play” or reading the ignorant defense of the indefensible by the sheep out there? It’s a tough call!
I hope the front office stays true to its word—and stops insulting the fanbase with this fraud; a fraud which has been jammed down our throats for 11 years now.
