Falcons likely done with Brooking

Keith Brooking has heart. Although he deserves to finish his career with the Falcons, it looks like the Falcons won’t pay him the $1 million roster bonus he’s due Feb. 23. The bigger deal is that he’s slated to make $8.3 million next season. If they do release him, I can’t blame them.

The move back to the weak side didn’t help Brooking last season. He was constantly getting beat on pass coverage, probably one of the biggest came against the Cards in the playoffs. He looked like he was always a step behind. He missed the interception against the Cards that would have been huge. Sure, guys make mistakes, but when you get paid that much, you have to play to a certain standard or expect to be released.

I like that he’s a local guy who has played his entire career for the hometown team, but Dimitroff isn’t impressed. It’s all about money for him. If Brooking will take less, I think he might have a chance to stay. If not, Dimitroff will send him packing.

Brooking has started every game for the Falcons since 2001, a pretty amazing feat considering how many guys sit out because they’re banged up. He admits that his last game against the Cardinals wasn’t his best. It would be a tough way to finish a career with the Falcons.

Keith, you were great for the Falcons and the city of Atlanta, but its time to retire. A true team player will put the team ahead of his personal desires, its time, you’ll always be a Falcon and will live forever in the Ring of Honor.

Thanks for your service #56

I didn’t believe it until the AZ game…

My only question is whether it was Boley / the line not doing their jobs, giving him an impossible, untenable situation..

Maybe AB can use a smart Tech guy in the front office if he doesn’t want to coach. He should retire a Falcon, but maybe not yet, if another non-playing role is found.

I think it would be a lame move to lose both Lawyer and Brooking, two monumental, veteran leaders. I think Brook has said he’d take less money, and that’s fine. I want him back. I want more chances for him to finally sign my jersey, too.

Thanks #56 for all your hard work.

I think we have to go with Bart Scott in free agency and then pick up another LB in the 1st or 2nd round.

You Falcon fans amaze me, many of you claim to be true Falcon fans but constantly disrespect the last link to the greateset season your franchise ever had. Many hated the Falcons drafted Brooking over Takeo Spikes, but Brooking was just as strong and faster than spike at the combine and truth be told he had the better career. Spikes career was disrupted several times due to injury. Brooking was a soldier for the Falcons for many years, yes he got jucked a few times by shifty RBs and WRs but what LB don’t. Good luck to Brooking if he does get cut, it will be another reason why the Falcons will suck, you can’t convince me his leadership in the locker room won’t be missed. A true professional that could teach the young ones a thing or two. But still with Brooking or with out him…..

The Falcons Will Suck in 2009.

Fresh for 2009, You Suckers!!!!!!!

If you want to compare veteran LB’s with Keith Brooking, let’s use Ray Lewis, lomgtime vet with the Ravens, shows up every week to make game-changing hits and plays, is a true leader on his team even with his one run-in with the law. Ray Lewis is synonomous with Raven defense, also not to mention Ray Ray has been in the league longer than KB,and yet every year I hear about Ray Lewis’s season and defense and nothing about Brooking’s. It’s time to put that mule/or Yellow jacket(whatever you want to compare) out to pasture or free agency, not on this Falcon roster.

Bigeasy you are not a falcon fan so don’t worry about it. It’s all about winning dude, a washed up soldier way past his prime will not help. This is the NFL and if a player cannot help the team, you let him go. Maybe KB could help as a coach but you know that’s not gonna happen.

Keith Brooking? The most overrated, overpaid fraud of a linebacker I’ve ever seen…in my life.

Nothing but an ankle-grabber eight-yards downfield while at Tech—and, guess what, that’s all he was in the pros.

The lack of true, impact plays is the giveaway to the non-sheep. For someone with so many “tackles” (or “tankles”, if you prefer), you would think he would force a fumble or two?

(But, then again, runners don’t carry the ball with their ankles or feet—so thus the simple answer to a very relevant question).

Stop the fraud—stop being such sheep for our precious Hometown Hero, who is better at reading ‘Green Eggs and Ham’ to the kiddies than he is at “leading” and making plays commensurate with his bloated salary.

Pure emotional rot. This is why the Falcons are who they are…

You have no clue? Keith Brooking needs to be signed in Atlanta, what made the Falcons good last year is they cut all of the gangster trash along with M Vick. KB is TEAM Leader, leads the team in tackles,Does all kinds of great things in the community. If a Pro organization wants high character people show some loyalty and keep Keith Brooking. The BirdBabe needs to go to the Cowboys or Raiders with the rest of the trash!

Keith had a decent run with the Falcons, the true fans salute him! It’s time to move forward, he’s slower, older, and getting to plays late! Jimmy, KB didn’t lead the team in tackles last season and most of his tackles are 10 yards off the line of scrimmage, his coverage skills have deteriorated due to his age!

hey over-rated, do you notice anything similar about all the people you mentioned? Heck why not throw Kroy Biermann, Harvey Dahl, Jason Elam, Simon Fraser, Ben Hartsock, Michael Koenen, Todd McClure, Justin Peele, Jason Rader, Chris Redman, Mike Schneck, Alex Steponavich, Coy Wire and Keith Zinger in their too. Maybe we need to relook at Coach Smith and TD also. Got to make sure and get rid of them all right???? Can’t be successfull with that “type” of player on the team huh?

If he comes back he needs to learn to play down and distance and not go for pop warner ball fakes when it is third and long (see Arizona game)

Brooks a class act. But the NFL is about winning and he’s not what he once was. (Who is?) I hope he chooses to take a pay cut and work as a sub but if not I can’t blame the Falcons for moving on without him. I wish you the best Keith no matter the outcome!

Big Easy 830 we are true falcons fans we just hated the fact that brooking took the place of Jessie Tuggle to early and that he is a little overrated !! Great player, great guy, love to see him in a back-up role for less money but as a starter i dont know. Nothing personal but we need playmakers and brooking has been a great player but an average playmaker.

As a mom I have to give Keith the sportsmanship and I appreciate your attitude award. In this time of young kids looking up to athlete’s as GOD I must say I appreciate Keith’s professionialism and giving back to Atlanta. He is a true person with honesty and stood behind his team when others didn’t. I certainly want my children to see this type of pro player. I agree that his leadership will be missed.

Jimmy Davis : “what made the Falcons good last year is they cut all of the gangster trash along with M Vick.”

Just say what you mean. It’s funny you use the term ganster when you talk about the players we cut. Dunn, yeah he’s a ganster, Crumpler, he’s one too. So, if we cut Brooking I guess we’re cutting the “good” guy right? Brooking was a leader of this “D” early on in his career, but the real leaders were Milloy and Abraham (as voted by their teammates).

If the “gansters” as you put it that we cut would’ve been having pro-bowl type seasons you wouldn’t be calling them gansters. I wonder what happens if JA55 has a bad year. Are you going to call him a ganster too? People like you are so pathetic.

It’s time for Kieth to go!!! He’s one of the most overrated LBs in NFL history. He’s slow, makes shoe string tackles, jumps on piles and is not a threat at all to anyone in the NFL. TD, Let’s go out and get a hard nosed, hard hitting LB to help out Lofton and the rest of the LB crew for the Atlanta Falcons!!!!

Jimmy…retarded. Brooking is the reason the falcons succeeded last year? I understand he’s a team leader…but this is now a NEW TEAM…with NEW LEADERS. Abraham ALONE carried that defense. Milloy helped wonders in the secondary. Brooking is getting old…and you can argue HE IS the reason the Falcons didnt get the ball back down 6 vs. Arizona in the playoffs to try and win it.

It’s time to let him go. And quit takin the cheap shots at Vick. He’s serving his time…bout to get out…he’s “payed his debt to society”. You guys complain when you have “vick fanboys” on here preaching “MV7”…but you take shots at him even when they’re not around.

By the way…LOOK AT WHAT THE MAN WAS EARNING AS A FALCON and WHAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO PAY HIM TO GET HIM BACK HERE…

$8.3 Million? Are you kidding me? And you guys want him back for that kinda money?

Guess Mike Vick isn’t the only Falcon that had his own fanclub…looks like we got some keith brooking fanbums in here too.

I need to point out to TPEC that Keith Brooking had 102 Tackles & Asst that lead the team. To Wabe the WANKER; I am all for improving the team, but getting rid of K.Brooking is not the way to do this.{ Falcons need a run stuffing DT.} With L. Milloy leaving They need KB’s leadership more then ever.Warrick Dunn is not ganster trash He is great player & human being.Speed and Size is only a small part Determination,Willpower,Heart, loyalty and wanting to tear off your opponents skull is the most important quality in a football player! {A SEASONED VETERAN KNOWS HOW TO GET THIS DONE.} I have faith with the falcons GM & Coach Smith they will get it right this year! (Just Keep Keith Brooking ;He will only help the TEAM WIN IN 2009

I’ve been living in the ATL area for 12 years and besides Jim Mora and Bobby Petrino, Keith Brooking has been the weakest link for a long time.

I told my friends on the Gulf Coast who are huge Saints fans, “when TD gets rid of KB I will become an ATL Falcons Fan!” Note: I have “NEVER” been a Saints fan or a fan of any other team!

TD pls do the organization and this city a favor and get rid of the former pro bowl LB who makes 90% of his tackles 6 or 7 yards downfield from behind.

This truly would be addition by subtraction!

By Wabe

February 24, 2009 5:49 PM | Link to this

Jimmy says “A SEASONED VETERAN KNOWS HOW TO GET THIS DONE.} . “

He obviously knew what he was doing when he bit on a 3rd and 16 playaction…and HIS MAN caught a 20 yard reception to put the game away.

You’d sign him for 8.3 million? Why not explore FA with that money? There’s good LB’s coming out of college…good one’s that will become FA’s. Brooking will never get his original spot back at MLB with the emergence of Lofton. And he’s pretty much mediocre at weakside…you can get someone better for that kind of money. Leadership dont mean nothing when the “leader” is the one telling the other guys in the locker room “my bad on that 3rd and 16 guys”. Bum Davis. His best days are behind him…go follow him wherever he winds up going.

The problem with the use of terms like “gangster trash” is that they tell you too much about the user of the term. Lets take Mike Vick as gangster trash, being a criminal and having a posse, all that fits. Who else was gangster trash? Alge Crumpler? The team leader who people turned on because A. he had a friendship with Vick and B. he spoke out against a coach he turned out to be right about. Nothing gangster about that. Nothing criminal about him. No incidents. So what’s gangster? DeAngelo Hall… a narcissistic diva, but never in trouble with the law. He wore jewelry. Is that it? Warrick Dunn - self explanatory. So when you say “gangster trash” that got cut with Vick, it’s pretty obvious how hard you have to squint to see those guys that way. We know what that common thread is. Time to wake up.
