Turnovers can’t stop Falcons

The Falcons should have won by a lot more points, but it was an awesome victory on the road against a team they should have beaten.

Turnovers made this one closer than it should have been. The refs tried to hand this one to the Chargers. Didn’t think Finneran or Turner fumbled. Bad, bad calls. Not sure what replays they’re looking at. Fortunately, it didn’t cost the Falcons the game.

Matt Ryan was awesome again today. He and Roddy make such a great team. Ryan was on target and Roddy did a great job getting open. The rookie Harry Douglas made a rookie mistake on the fumble, but made up for it with the TD catch. Glad to see the tight end get in on the offensive game plan.

The defense played great, getting the safety and making big stops when it had to. Then the blocked field goal. They held down LT and were all over Rivers. Their only points came off three turnovers (2 questionable ones) that gave the Chargers good field position.

I like Mike Smith’s decision to go for it on fourth down, but give Ryan a chance on the keeper or a pass play way before it gets to fourth down. When they’re jamming the middle, go around the end.

Next week: a huge game at New Orleans. Need to win that division game.

Go Falcons! Awesome win today.

Falcons run over Panthers

Michael Turner ran all over the Panthers. Four touchdowns. Unbelievable. What a great addition to the Falcons. The Falcons are now a huge contender in the division.

Coming-out party for the rookie Harry Douglas. He did it all. Came up big with the rushing touchdown early, big receptions and the huge punt return for the TD to shut the door on the Panthers.

What a gutsy call for Mike Smith to go for it on 4th down. No choice there. Had to go for it. A field goal gives you nothing there. Great confidence in the offensive line.

I was a bit nervous after the first quarter. It was a great start for Ryan, but the Falcons got way too conservative. The no-huddle really got the Falcons going in the second half. Love the way Matt Ryan handled himself when the Panthers had shifted the momentum.

Why is it so hard to cover Steve Smith? This guy always tears up our secondary. And his celebrations drive me nuts. Triple team if you have to and make someone else beat you.

Chauncey Davis came up huge today. Big sacks at critical times.

Great job by the O-line keeping Julius Peppers out of the mix.

Go Falcons!

So close against Denver

Roddy White had it in his hands, but just couldn’t hold on. Ryan put it where it needed to be, but Roddy just couldn’t hold on. Can’t blame Roddy for this loss, though. The defense couldn’t keep Cutler out of the end zone late. The secondary really needs work. Where was Abraham today? No pressure on Cutler.

Ryan had a good day, except for the loft pass that was intercepted. He got away with one earlier and he should have known better to try that again against a Pro Bowler.

The running game really never got going. Turner had a couple of big runs, but the running game needs to get established to take pressure off Ryan.

Finneran came up big today with some big third-down catches. Nice to see him contribute again. He’s a nice big target that Ryan needs, especially on third down.

Elam is still too much of the Falcons scoring. The Falcons have got to get into the end zone more. Fields goals just aren’t enough.

Huge game next week against the Panthers. Go Falcons!

Who would have thought 6-3?

It was good the Falcons got a jump on the Saints.Drew Brees passed for more than 400 yards, but huge interceptions at the end of the game when the Saints were driving.

Once again the boys won another game they should have. Norwwod and Turner had another great game, especially Norwood’s 60-yard-plus reception to give Atlanta an insurmountable lead.Ryan definitely was the better QB, 200-plus yards, 2 TDs and no INTs.

It’s so nice to see this team have success.

Denver won’t be easy, but I’m confident the Falcons can win.

A great first

What a great win on the road — the first for the Falcons in Oakland. OK, the Raiders stink and the Falcons didn’t score in the second half, but this was still a total domination.

I loved seeing the defense get that interception in the end zone to preserve the shutout. Allowing three first downs the entire game was amazing. John Abraham was everywhere.

And Matt Ryan and the offense looked like they were just running through practice in the first half. Keeping the Raiders defense on the field for more than 40 minutes was impressive. Great job by Ryan (with the exception of the stripped ball) and Michael Turner.

I was glad D. Hall didn’t get to do any talking. The announcers even got on him a little for seemingly being too friendly with his former mates. For me, subpar play is what I was used to seeing from him and thankfully he’s not here anymore. I really like the team Blank, Dimitroff and Smith have compiled.

The victory is good, but I would have liked to see some scoring in the second half. Ball control is fine, but there are going to be times when you can’t just hold on to a 24-point lead. There are too many good teams that can come back from that deficit.

Let’s crush the Saints next week!!

Go Falcons!!
