A great first

What a great win on the road — the first for the Falcons in Oakland. OK, the Raiders stink and the Falcons didn’t score in the second half, but this was still a total domination.

I loved seeing the defense get that interception in the end zone to preserve the shutout. Allowing three first downs the entire game was amazing. John Abraham was everywhere.

And Matt Ryan and the offense looked like they were just running through practice in the first half. Keeping the Raiders defense on the field for more than 40 minutes was impressive. Great job by Ryan (with the exception of the stripped ball) and Michael Turner.

I was glad D. Hall didn’t get to do any talking. The announcers even got on him a little for seemingly being too friendly with his former mates. For me, subpar play is what I was used to seeing from him and thankfully he’s not here anymore. I really like the team Blank, Dimitroff and Smith have compiled.

The victory is good, but I would have liked to see some scoring in the second half. Ball control is fine, but there are going to be times when you can’t just hold on to a 24-point lead. There are too many good teams that can come back from that deficit.

Let’s crush the Saints next week!!

Go Falcons!!

I believe it was the first time in NFL history a team was held to minus yardage in the first half. I didn’ t realize the raiders were as dreadful as that.

A win is a win and you can’t take that away no matter what. However the VERY CONSERVATIVE play-calling in the second half was terrible. Are we going back to the days of trying to get a lead, sit on it, only to have the team come back on us??? Fortunate for us today we were playing the Raiders.

Big win! At least in the sense that it seems like we’ve gotten to a level where we win the games we should. 5-3 at the mid point, I’ll take it. Particularly with every loss being on the road and close to the very end. The next 3 games will dictate whether we are a feel good story and a great first step, or legimately have a shot at the post-season, which would be amazing.

Also, it sure was a nice cure for that embarassing @ss whippin’ UGA took from Florida yesterday. It was nice to see a qb throw touchdowns instead of interceptions. Home games against the Saints and Panthers will show us how good we are this year, but I think Blank finally got it right with Dimitroff and Smith.

Mularkey, we haven’t been able to “sit” on a lead too very often in 42 years!!!! Our D was kicking their arse so I can take the conservative approach. I do agree though, going forward, when we are in this situation, please continue to put the throtle down and go for it. We are just virgins to being in control. GREAT job Coach Smith and staff, Thomas D and all associated with the Falcons. I think we are a legit NFL team for several years to come1!!!!!

Judging by her comment at 7:29, Conservative Mularkey doesn’t know if a football is stuffed or inflated.

The fact of the matter is this: the Falcons had a 24-popint halftime lead against a team that had ZERO first downs and MINUS THREE total yards at the half.

With that in mind, why in God’s name would you want to do anything risky on offense that might give the Raiders a spark?

One more thing: Jamarcus Russell should be arrested for theft, because he’s stealing money from Al Davis. What a stiff! (I’m talking about Russell AND Davis.)

That’s all for now, Conservative Mularkey. You can return to the kitchen and finish cooking my supper.

Remember, I like chicken … fried.

That first half was amazing. The only flaw was Ryan getting the ball knocked out of his hand while he was trying to make something out of nothing and you can’t fault him for that (at least you can’t fault him for that when already up 24-0). The second half was almost as if the Falcons didn’t want to embarass the Raiders. A little more agressiver play calling and the final score could have been 45-0…seriously. They went for it running up the middle on 3rd and 1 (and then 4th and 1) on the Oak 9 in the 3rd. They ran out the clock at the end of the game with over 7 minutes left (seriously, how many teams can kill the last SEVEN minutes of a game with ease against an opponent, that’s almost as impressive as another score in my opinion).

Matt Ryan + Roddy White + Micahel Turner = playoff berth and in this crazy year, who knows beyond there.

I was 10 years old when my dad took me andmy brother to the very first Falcons game every played. Never in all the years since have I seen a Falcons team dominate quite they did today. I remember the season opener ‘73 when we beat the Saints 62-7, I rememer the “gritz blitz” in ‘78 when we held the Bucs that year to 78 yards. Never saw anything like quite like this, great game great effort. The Falcons are on to something. Let me go on record predicting this regime will break the jinx of never having winning back-toback seasons. I am in awe of Matt Ryan…. Michael who? that would be Michael “the Burner” Turner, 31 carries 139 yards. Michael who? That would be Michael Jenkins, 2 catches, 2 touches. Those are the only Michaels producing for the Falcons. UNBELIEVABLE! Go Falcons!

Is it me or does Ryan look like a scared little girl and falls down easily before an apparent sack? At least he has enough brains to know you don’t need your earrings on under you helment to play NFL QB. Jamarcus Russell—like Vince Young and Michael Vick—is as dumb as a box of rocks!

Falcons are winning because of quality coaching and great pick ups in the offseason and in the draft. The best thing that ever happened in ATL was for VICK to go away and the Thugs to be weeded out on this team i.e. Hall! Ryan has more talent and brains and the QB position than VICK every had or well every have if he plays again. Kudos to ownership, staff, and players for making a big turn around this year.

It was great to see Snelling get some carries today. He’s a great special teams player and a tough runner between the tackels. I like that dude. Also, instead of refering to Quaterback busts as Ryan Leaf, we can call them Jamarcus Russell from now on. What was it that he was holding out for?

Bird babe, your last paragraph was spot on. The Falcons like to sit on a lead too much and that philosophy has and will bite them in the rear. I wish that they would allow their history of being the stepping stone for most teams on their way to their next opponent be the inspiration that motivates them to score as much as they can until the time clock says that there is absolutely not enough time left for the Falcoms to loose the game. Atlanta needs to rmember that most every team in sports have hade some of their most lop-sided victories when they have played against teams from Atlanta. Don’t be afraid to run up the score because everybody out there has run up the score on us.

Congratulations on a totally dominant victory Falcons. Offense lost interest in second half but that is okay. These were the Raiders. Will not be okay against better teams. Love touchdown pass over untalented DeA+shole Hall. Kodak moment! Thank you Matt Ryan. Two defensive plays stand out. Good one was end zone interception which preserved Falcon shutout. Falcon shutout! That has a nice ring to it. Bad one was when Raider quarterback faked Keith “No Tackle” Brooking out of his jockstrap. Happened out in open for whole world to see. Exposed how slow the former Pro Bowler actually is! Only other major negatives were blocked punt and unforced Ryan fumble. Thankfully, neither led to points. Long field goal miss not overly alarming. Overall, an exceptional road performance. Just do not get cocky and stumble at home!

I honestly don’t think we a have to worry about us being too conservative this year. We were up 24-0, but the way our defense was playing, it might as well have been 100-0. Their offense was gonna do nothing against our defense, so why take chances on the offensive side of the ball and give them a cheap defensive touchdown. I would’ve loved to put a big number on this team too, but I’m just as happy with a 24-0 win. 3 first downs allowed, that’s crazy!! GO FALCONS!

Sure, I would have liked to see the Falcons blow the Raiders out, but, bottom line, we won. This year, we have beaten the teams we were supposed to have beaten, and beaten teams we should have lost to. Last year we lost to teams that were pathetic. This year’s team is as legit as they come. To Poncho and the other pessimists….we beat the Bears and we weren’t supposed to. We’re contenders in a year we should be rebuilding. Heh…how do you like em now???

hey Poncho Villa, the ‘niner’s, Rams, Chiefs, Bengals and Lions all have the a worse record than the Raiders, Einstien. How can the Raider’s be the worst team in the league? Anytime you shutout an NFL team it is an accomplishment. Anybody who doesn’t realize doesn’t have a clue. Obviously a numb nut of the nimrod variety, and a fine example of one at that.

There are teams that can come back from big deficits but these Oakland Raiders aren’t among them. The Falcons could have run the score way up but what’s the point? That scumbag Hall is the worst corner in the league and he’s been exposed now. he’ll be out of the league within a year.

Let’s keep the whole bunch together - management, coaches, players, etc. It AMAZES me how well this team is playing and probably doesn’t have HALF the talent of last year’s team.

Yes, you can only go so far with talent and this team still might not win many more games, but man it is really impressive how well prepared this team is each week and how focused they are with the limitations they have.

I must say that in terms of the ATL franchises, the football team is on the way up and given all the events of the last twelve months, kudos to the ENTIRE organization of simply purging all the old toxins and moving forward.

Arthur Blank might have found his true coach and franchise quarterback that may lead this team to consistent success in the years ahead.

Obama T-Shirt Wearer: Cool.

Interviewer: Okay, then. Which candidate do you support for President?

Interviewer: Okay. May we ask what it is about Mr. Obama or his policies that you like?

Obama T-Shirt Wearer: Obama is THE MAN !

Obama T-Shirt Wearer: Mmmmmmph! HE JUST IS .

Interviewer: Are you more excited about this election than previous ones?

Obama T-Shirt Wearer: Absolutely!

Interviewer: How long have you been a registered voter, Sir?

Obama T-Shirt Wearer: ……

Interviewer: When did you first become a registered voter? How long ago?

Obama T-Shirt Wearer: Do what, now?

Interviewer: Sir, you have to officially register as a voter at least a month before an election in order to be able to vote. The election is only a matter of days away.

Obama T-Shirt Wearer: ….. [Expletive Deleted] this racist country! Oh, H—- No!

Getting back to the game, the Falcons did great. They used the second half to practice their running game, which should be a lot better, although it looks good on paper. Ryan has to watch his back with Baker out. Really like Snelling, thou I realize he was in late in the game with the Raider’s D really tired. Snelling has the very quick start, and power!! Congrats to Ryan and coaches!

Good win Falcons. I must say this was a GREAT weekend for all the teams playing in the city of Atlanta. Tech finally beats FSU, I got to go to the Hawks home opener to see an great come back, and then we have the Falcons come out and completely obliterate the Raiders and to add on to it I got to see MeAngelo get beat a few time and whine like a lil baby.

Now, own to other things that seem to continue going on and on with this blog. Each and every week we have to deal with two things. Vick supporter comes on each week and you people let him get to you and I actually believe some of you like it. People like supes then lump all the people who supported Vick into this category of ignorant racist. Man I’d just like to finally come on this blog and talk some football. If the AJC isn’t going to do anything about screening these racist ignorant comments then do away with the Falcons blog for a while. Some of us actually come on here to talk football…not about the white QB or the black QB. Oh yeah…btw…I’m a black guy…I guess me mentioning that makes some kind of difference on this blog for one reason or another…

I don’t get to watch the games, so can someone tell me:

I hear Matt Ryan runs a limited “no-huddle”, but I haven’t heard if he’s progressed to running the offense from the shotgun formation. I know Mike Vick was held back two years from running that offense, by Reeves, then Mora, I imagine because it’s such a complex thing to do. It might be a good sign of Ryan’s progress if Coach Smith lets him take snaps in the shotgun. Has he gotten that far yet?

Have the Falcons beat any team worth a damn? Chicago played without its two starting corners and only blitzed TWICE, Green Bay was without Al Harris. Beating Oakland is like celebrating beating SW Dekalb High!

I laughed all game at Meangelo “Toast” Hall getting beat/burned time and time again. Even the one tipped ball he had was way underthrown and Finneran had gotten by him. Finneran are you kidden me! Good riddance punk!

Hey Y’all:

“ONE HEARTBEAT!!” We played together with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!”.

I cannot believe DeAngelo Hall was trying to start a ruckus with our team during halftime after being down 24-0. If he thought was trying to impress his new teammates by acting like he was the “most baddest tough guy on the Falcons, then he got it wrng. He made himself look stupid. Big Grady put him in check and you know he was not going to talk too much stuff to Grady and/or any of the other tough guys that would kick his butt, like John Abraham. How dare him try insult his former teammates with such childish behavior. His own teammates were embarassed by his behavior.

Nevertheless, the Falcoons kicked that butt on Sunday. They were on point with everything they wanted to do offensively and defensively. I can not wait until Sunday when we play New Orleans: a conference game. I am more than confident coach Mike Smith and his staff will have the Falcons performing in “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!” It is now up to us fans to join the beat on Sunday and give any New Orleans fan verbal hell when they come into “OUR HOUSE”. We will do this with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!!!!!!!”

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! This is a SECRET from a FALCON FAN.
TELL EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO FALCONS.

           "ONE HEARTBEAT!!!!!"

Any win is a great win. However, beginning with their last drive of the first half, the Falcons and the Raiders tied 0-0. With the clock at 2:30 remining before the half, the Falcons looked very lethargic and careless with their clock management. They looked as though they had no desire to put the ball in the endzone for a TD, but were rather just playing for a field goal.

In Coach Smith’s interview, he stated the coachs talked about keeping up their intensity in the 2nd half. Well at least the defense listened. While they did move the ball, up and down the field, the offense failed to score a point.

This concerns me. Against a good team, as a result of scoring failures in the 2nd half, we very well could have lost that game. As long as your team is on the field, you should be trying to put points on the board. The next game is not gonna be this easy. We don’t need to practice these bad habits.

See you Sunday at the Dome.

If you had asked me prior to the season if I would be happy at the midway point with 5-3 overall, 2-3 on the road, 3-0 at home and 5 home games in the second half, I’d have said, “Heck yes.” Perhaps not that exact vernacular, but you get the point.

This is a young team, yes, but they play as if they’ve been there and done that. They have already developed a winning attitude and a strike-first mentality. I credit Arthur Blank for making the bold move to bring in a former scout in Dimitroff, and kudos to the latter for the bolder move of selecting Mike Smith (who?) to mold and lead this young team. And with the selections of Ryan and Baker (wish he’d get back on the field), and the move to bring in Turner, this offense is poised to make noise for the next 5-6 years.

Smitty’s emphasis on D is evident, and he’s been able to tap the leader of the D, Abe, to put together perhaps his finest professional season. Yes, the defensive performance (or lack thereof) against Philly was upsetting, but those games will happen every once in a while. Just can’t let it happen in the playoffs.

Stupid Herm Edwards. We needed you to put Tampa away. Thanks a lot, moron.

Home games a-coming against all 3 division foes. The Falcons control their destiny. And I get the feeling that this team will not allow any second-half collapses as we’ve seen in recent years. They want to win, and they want to win now. And I’m totally down with that.

Let me set the record straight. I am a young black male who is the biggest fan of michael vick. What he did was wrong, and he is suffering for it. Even though Vick is one of my favorites, I am not going to be an a*****, and bash my beloved Falcons. You should root for the team, not just one guy. This is ridiculous! We are 5-3, even though we should be 6-2, and people on here are being a*****, and it is making me sick. Matt Ryan, besides Big Ben, is the best rookie QB ever. this guy is way ahead of schedule. The Falcons are on a path to stardom. I’m not saying that we are going to win the Super Bowl this year, even though that would be sweet, but we are progressing. I would like to see the jackasses that said that the Falcons were only going to win 1 game. I’m done here. But reading this bs just makes me angry as hell! GO FALCONS !!!!!!!!

All you Vick fans will be able to cheer him when he is the QB for the Raiders in two years and Russell is bagging groceries. So quit bashing the Falcons.

Hey J, We need more falcon fans like you. There is a lot of BS on this blog, and it doesn’t make any sense. The Falcons are playing well and with some additional key free agents next year on this team, we could have the team to beat next year. GO Falcons!

HOW IN THE HELL ARE YOU HANGING WITH THE HIGHER ECHELON

CAROLINA - LOST BY 18——-TAMPA-LOST BY 18——-PHILLY-LOST BY 17

YEAH THAT’S HANGING WITH THEM ALRIGHT

VICK SUPPORTER 2 - Carolina 24 Falcons 9 (lost by 15) Tampa 24 Falcons 9 (lost by 15) Philly 27 Falcons 14 (lost by 13). I’m guessing math wasn’t you strongest subject in school (if you went). I assume your blog name would be VICK SUPPORTER ONE MILLION, but you went with the highest number you could count to.

I love watching D-Hall get shut up and beat about as much as I like watching Terrell Owens lose. What a wonderful day. The more Matt Ryan plays the more the Michael Vick experiment looks like a joke. It is awesome to have a REAL quarterback under center instead of an athlete who can run.

CNN: ranks Tampa, Carolina and Phillie in the top 10; Green Bay and Chicago in the top 15; I’d say the falcons are doing pretty well; all the losses were on the road to top 10 teams; hell, top ten teams lose on the road to other top ten teams; I’ll take it; we go 2 and 1 over the next 3 games, then the last 5 games will really mean something;

Wait Which Matt wrote: “Where are the people who were hollering for Matt Schaub?? LOL” Matt Schabb has a QB rating of 91 which lands him at 9th in the league…ahead of P.Manning, Ben Rothlesberger, Jay Cutler and a host of others. Yeah, he should have started over Vick here in Atlanta. Vick’s QB ratings are way down this year. But, now we have the other Matt, “Matty Ice”. Falcon fans are happy and Houston is happy to have the other Matt.

THANKS BROOKING! It was your F+++++G whiff on a tackle on fourth down play which led to Saint touchdown march. You are a worthless piece of S++T! Do the right thing for your team and fans. QUIT NOW! Do not coontinue to torpedo a young and improving defense.

Guess who was in the F+++++G end zone when the Saints scored on a prayer? Yep! Keith “Clueless SOB” Brooking. Was so happy with win until this untalented piece of S++T started again. He and two damn defenders who allowed Saint to get behind them late are worthless toilet scum. Bench defenders. Cut Brooking! Anyone else see the same thing?
