Horrible call
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Heartbreaking loss. The officials handed this one to the Eagles. I am so mad. The Falcons had a chance to pull this one out, but the officials took that away. It wasn’t even close.
Ryan continues to impress me with his never-give-up attitude, but the officials didn’t give him a chance to pull it out. So disappointing. He made a bad throw on the interception in the end zone, but he came back and gave them a chance to win this one on the road. Lots of guts.
Just seemed like the running game never could get going. That’s a lot of pressure on the rookie against a good pass rush. Too much pressure getting to Ryan.
Just couldn’t stop Westbrook today.
Go Falcons! This should have been a win.

When league Officials BLOW the GAME should it be OK unless you have a timeout?
That was an obvious blown call but Goodell allows it to stand, talk about a crime..

This call was crap. I agree Mike should have saved a timeout, but come on, the refs should get obvious calls correct. They should also have favored the Birds and let the Eagles challenge the call. The league needs to figure out this issue. I wonder if there is corruption. This is the third game this year decided by refs. They have to be held accountable, but instead, the first Falcon to complain will get fined! The system is screwed.

The officials cost the Falcons a game and the NFL a shot at a highlight ending. It’s bad enough we have to listen to how underrated every player on the Eagles roster is all afternoon, but this is not only insulting, but scandalous. Simple fact of the matter is that Goodell should get a new officiating crew and replay the final two minutes of that game. All of the officials should be fired for incompetence. A blown call should NEVER cost a team a game. What is the point of replay if you don’t use it? What a crock! Falcons got shafted and if there are no repurcussions, we can only assume that the NFL supports such incompetence. There is NO EXCUSE for this. One game could mean the difference in making the playoffs!

Adam Jennings - CATCH THE DA*% BALL. You have one job - ONE JOB on this team, field and return kicks. Just fair catch the ball and give us a shot.
Jennings should be cut immediately. Let Norwood or Harry Douglas return kicks. This loss is on YOU Jennings. That was pathetic.

Look not to defend the refs because the call was wrong. However Jennings was too far back on PR all day. Either catch the damned ball or get away from it.
And I’ve been saying it but the ball as to get to the TE in the red zone. If you don’t you’re going to have a really hard time scoring down there if you don’t have an overpowering OL.

THEN TAMPA/CAROLINA/PHILLY
REAL GROWN MAN DEFENSES SHOWED UP AND JUST AS PREDICTED AT DRAFT DAY

All around I’d say it was a well played game…we were in it long enough to where we had a chance to go for a win so I can’t really complain about that. I’m sure that this blog will mostly be dedicated to the blown call and I’m sure all of us Falcons fan will bash as much as we can out of that call. So I’ll go ahead and ask the question now…
When does the league move to the college rules when it comes to reviews??? Each week we have seen bad calls by refs lead to the final decision of ball games everywhere.
If I ran things I would allow for the booth to review all plays in the 4th quarter.
But Adam Jennings is not innocent at all with the “muff scandal”. There were two things he did wrong which is why I am still saying we should have fired the guy before the season started.
1) SIGNAL FOR A FAIR CATCH Clearly the Eagles defender was closing in quickly on him so he could have easily called for a fair catch and not have to worry about going up to catch the ball. From the looks of it if he would have caught that ball he would have been nailed immediately so he should have just fair caught the football.
2) DON’T GO UP TO CATCH THE BALL Again like I mentioned before. The Eagles defender was going to nail him, I look at that play and don’t see him having a chance to make the defender miss. So if you’re not going to call the fair catch just get out of the way.

The Professor at least come with some facts next time. Vick never threw Roddy or anyone else under the bus. Roddy himself said Vick was always supportive. Roddy mentioned in a recent article that Vick told him that he would be a pro bowler one day. So please explain to me how Vick threw him under the bus when Roddy the himself said Vick was always supportive. He said Vick told him he might as well start catching the ball because he will always come back to him. I laugh at guys who make up crap on here although the players themselves say things totally different. Roddy said Vick supported him but I guess Vick threw him under the bus because you said so. I mean Roddy actually played with him while you never did. I guess we should take your word over an actual person who played with him. ha ha ha ha
Vick also said he wished that the coaches would let him throw more. He said he felt bad for his wr’s because they were not getting the chance to show their true talents because they were a running team. The coaches then let him throw the ball. They won those games but went right back to the same crap. So once again how did he throw his guys under the bus when it sounds like he was praising them. You guys are funny on here.
Algonquin J. Calhoun dude you are as bad as tito used to be on here. You do realize that the Falcons actualy beat the Eagles in the last game Vick played against them on Monday night right. You do realize they scored right. Did Vick refuse to sign you panties one day, because you act like a little bitter chick.

The reason coaches did not let mv throw more is because he was pitiful at it. He had no foot work, no skill as a passer, he was a great sand lot player but he was never going to lead a team to a championship. He just did not have the brains. Once teams figured him out, his little dog and pony show was over. So…lets forget about the loser who never was and get behind the quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons…Matt Ryan.

Though the refs blew that call, Adam Jennings (and I’ve been saying this for TWO years) is the absolute worst punt returner I HAVE EVER SEEN!! His being on this roster is a crime! What is it going to take for them to get rid of him? Even when he does something right it goes wrong for the Falcons. I wish I could think of a way the NFL can do something about obvious bad calls by the refs, but what can you do? I hope the fellas get over it before the Oakland game and I also hope none of the injuries we suffered were too serious as it is extremely obvious our 2nd and 3rd tier players on this team can’t cut it. Having said all that (or rather whine), kudos to Ryan for keeping up the fight. The nickname “Ice” is well deserved.

CALL THE POLICE!!! We have been robbed. Why is it that the league and its officials protect the Eagles? There seems to be “bad calls” every week in the Eagle’s game. Matt Ryan had another great game. He sure doesn’t look or act like a rookie. The Falcon’s future is bright. I can hardly wait to see what is coming the next few years.
We also saw, in his absence, how good Sam Baker is. He really means a lot to this offense. It did struggle without him at times today.
I thought the Fox announcers we very pro Eagles today. It was one of the most one sided announcing jobs that I have seen and heard on Fox.
It is time for all Falcon fans to come together. The future is bright!

wtf, 1) Last game Vick played in the NFL was against the Eagles in which Falcons lost. I know your memory is selective but in that game the receivers actually showed potential when Schaub was throwing to them after Vick wussed out of the game. Pretty sad commentary that he ended his NFL career on a losing note to back-ups in Philly. 2) After Falcons lost at home to Saints that year Vick (in his usual limited press conference appearance) threw White and the other receivers under the bus. End of story. End of career.

2 weeks ago the headline was, “WOW! Old Falcons would have never won”, but the same old fair weather fans are crying about a call. What, you think your savior Matt Ryan was going to bring you back in this game as well. They lost plain and simple get over it. Next week against the Raiders won’t be a gimme either. Bad teams play better at home. The one thing the Falcons got going for themselves next week is Greg Knapp is calling the plays for the Raiders. The same Greg Knapp that destroys every talented black QB he coaches. So next week Falcons fans you may be able to hold hands and sing praises to your savior Matt Ryan again on these blogs, but until then, quit crying and take the lost in stride because there will be plenty of more lost before the season is over.

Im laughing at saying Vick threw Roddy under the bus. Google the recent Roddy article where he says in it that Vick always believed in him. Where he says Vick was always supportive. Where Vick told him he would stil throw him the ball so he might as well start catching it. ESPN ran a little piece that year about all the drops the Falcons wr’s were having. All of the wr’s manned up and said it was their fault, that they had to catch the balls that were hitting them in the hands. Roddy said in the piece that Vick was out there busting his a* and the recievers needed to help him out by catching the ball. In that Saints game Vick did not throw anyone under the bus. I clearly remember all the so called experts ragging on the coach because he fell to his knees after Roddy dropped that easy pass that should have been a touchdown.
Rick are you serious? Vick threw 20tds his last year and should have had around 28. Mora was talking about how the wr’s dropped a good 7 to 8 easy touchdowns. For a guy who you say is a sandlot player, no passing skills, and is not very smart he managed to get this team to the NFC championship game. If he is so dumb what does that say about other qbs who cant even get their teams to the playoffs although they put up all those statistical passing numbers.

I blame Jennings for his indecision, a trait that he has demonstrated since he has been here. He fair catches balls that he could easily make positive yards on and all to often he fails to follow his blockers turnig potential positive gainers into minimum and sometimes negative yards. The guy just makes too many mental errors to remain the premier return man for this team. It is my opinion that J. Norwood is a much better return man and he always get us positive yards.
Will someone please remind the offensive coordinator that he dose not have to run up the middle all of the time, sweeps to the left or right are viable options when it becomes evident that the oposition has shut down middle. Most of Westbrooks runs were outside left end right.

It stinks but like Coach Mike Smith said, it never should have come down to just that one play for the Falcons. To whine about the officials on the one play is to sound exactly like those Chicago Bears fans who were crying about how the Falcons got an extra second of time to beat the Bears.
There’s no crying in football. Just get over it. The Eagles are a better team than their record would indicate as they have several Pro-Bowl players on both sides of the ball.

The Falcons fought hard but made too many mistakes. You can’t blame that one play for the game even if it was a bad call. If teams are able to shut Turner down as the Eagles were, we have to be able to move the offense otherwise! We just couldn’t get any offensive flow going. I’ll say it again, sure do miss Alge! I don’t know why we keep Jennings on this team, he has never shown anything at all! Rossum was awesome but is gone, can’t we find someone better than we have now?! The defense played valiantly, even Brooking who I usually rant about, was fine! And I never ever thought I would see the day where Anderson got a sack & then we were worse off when he got hurt! This was a winnable game, the Eagles made alot of mistakes, too. The difference wasn’t the call, just too many missed opportunities. I still hate the playcalling, absolutely predictible except the the ridiculous trick plays which yield nothing!!We need to go out to Oakland & kick some you know what!!!

Vick actually threw his receivers under the bus in October 2006 interview with Cris Carter - remember?
Now this is what I call “leadership.” ESPN.com reported today that Michael Vick is not very happy with the offensive play calling in Atlanta lately. In an interview with Cris Carter for HBO’s Inside The NFL, Vick said he wants to throw more. He wants his coaches to trust him so he can throw more. This from a guy who can’t complete 50% of his passes and frequently throws the ball into the turf or five feet over his receivers’ heads.
But Vick wasn’t done. It’s one thing to question the logic of the gameplan; stupid, predictable gameplans should be questioned anyway. But it’s quite another to throw your receivers, and indeed your whole team, under the bus. And that’s exactly what Vick did when he said when Carter questioned him about playing with receivers like Chad Johnson and Randy Moss:
“Or a Marvin Harrison. … I always think about that, Cris. I always think, if I played in Indianapolis, what type of effect would I have on that team? Or what would I be able to do different? It’s something I wish I could do for just one week.”
The italics is mine. “I always think about that,” Vick says. That’s has to be the biggest slap in the face a receiving corps has ever taken from a marquee quarterback.

The pick on the fade was crucial. Westbrook ran all over the field. The guys played tough and didn’t give up. Did Ryan have a Reggie Ball moment when he threw it out of bounds on the last play? AHAHHAHA

Good grief, can we all just get along? SHEESH!!!!
A lot went wrong with the game yesterday, but they lost because of some really costly turnovers at really bad points of the game. Not to mention the referees giving them the business on an obvious missed call.
As a team, they lost, but Ryan deserves blame for the loss. After all he is the starting quarterback. If he doesn’t throw that duck of a fade route pass that gets picked off, the game might have been a whole lot closer.
Roddy White deserves blame for the loss. If he runs a crisper break into the in route instead of just running up field and turning in the first quarter, allowing Assante Samuel to jump his route, there wouldn’t have been an interception.
The offensive line deserves blame for the loss. If they open even a slight crack for the running backs to get through, the Falcons might have had a good balance on offense. The same goes for the D-line. Kudos to them for getting a couple of shots on Donovan McNabb, but you’ve gotta also put a couple of shots on Brian Westbrook. Not to take anything away from the guy because he’s a beast of an offensive weapon, but how many missed tackles were there on him yesterday?
Adam Jennings deserves blame for the loss. He’s called ‘Mr. Fair Catch’ for a reason. Even the most slow-brained person knows that you approach a punt with a few options: catch the ball (in which he would have taken a hard lick), signal for a fair catch, which he could have caught the ball and allowed the offense to go down the field, or don’t go near the damn ball if you feel you’re not going to catch it. PERIOD. I’ve seen some lame-brained things, but THAT has got to take the cake. But, I digress…..
Mike Smith deserves blame for the loss. There have been a lot of things that have gone right for the Falcons this season, but not managing your timeouts in a critical situation with a chance to win was a mistake. Game management was not on point yesterday.
Yes, I’m citing a few things that went wrong instead of looking at the positive things that did take place. You’ve got to be encouraged by the fact that, as a rookie, Matt Ryan is gaining more and more confidence in his ability to make plays. That pass to the back of the end zone to Roddy White is one of the many highlights of his young pro career.
Roddy White is becoming one of the premier receivers in the NFC. Through 7 games he’s averaging close to 100 yds per contest (97.0), has 5 touchdowns, and (here’s a most important stat) he has 0 FUMBLES. He is having a pro bowl type season.
All I’m saying is this…the Falcons looked good in defeat. They held an offensive juggernaut in Philadelphia to no points in the first quarter. The Eagles had been scoring like madmen in the first quarter and the Falcons shut them down in that quarter. However, a football game lasts for four quarters, and despite a valiant effort and some ignorance in officiating, the Falcons lost. The league needs to move to the college rules for reviewing plays (they review EVERYTHING and it doesn’t slow the game down that much). The competition committee should really re-evaluate the review system in place.

Let’s not forget that moron Mora. All of the time he spent washing Vick’s socks and changing Vick’s diaper meant nothing when Mora’s job was on the line. Vick clearly did not apply himself that day, nor inspire his teammates to lend a hand either. And all the while the tearful eyes of Mora followed him around on the field like the jilted lover he (Mora) was. Not even a “reach around” from his most trusted friend and QB. Just watch a replay of this game including the following press conference, and tell me again how Vick never threw anyone under the bus. You can bet that even after all of your pillow-biting, VS2, that you would surely suffer the same fate. You really need to get a life and a better role model.

Two things worse than the “muff”. Ryan’s horrible fade pass that was intercepted probably costing a td. Finneran’s drop in the end zone which could have cost a td. Jenning’s “muff” did not cost anything-it was the bad call that cost them.

Lot of that bad call thing goin’ ‘round. The REDSKINS lost to St. LOUIS when the referee flagged a scoring punt play then picked it up and walked off saying that the REDSKIN #50 fouled the RAMS #50 when the replays clearly showed the opposite was true.

TIME TO CUT THE HUMAN GARBAGE LOOSE! Falcons who break the rules need to be booted off the team. No appeals! No reprieves! No damn exceptions! The purge of low-life gutless scumball C++++++++S was almost accomplished when the new coach took over. The biggest one is in some country club cell someplace. Should have been F+++++G fried! The coach must send a message that rule violations WILL NOT be tolerated. That goes for anyone from five-star performer Matt Ryan to zero untalented jerk Keith “No Talent” Brooking! With this can can be NO compromise. That is how the team got rear-ended before. By gentle wrist slaps for wrong-doers instead of sledgehammer blows to their damn heads! Has adam Jennings been cut yet?

The NFL needs to implement the same play review program the NCAA uses. Play reviews should not be tied to time-outs. There should be an option that, at the very least, allows a coach to call for play review with no time-outs left that would penalize his team 5-yards for delay of game and loss of down if he loses the challenge.

The Falcon defense is sinking like a rock. It will only get worse with injuries, like the one to Anderson. With a concusion the league now mandates games missed. Add in a couple of suspensions (to Grady and the Lawman), and the only defense the Falcons will have is a ball control offense. They need to review the last drive Tampa Bay had last Sunday (against the Cowboys), and duplicate that formual: a 16-play, 45 yard drive, going successfully on 4th down (4th and 1 or 2 usually). It doesn’t score points, but it runs clock. The Falcons cannot afford the luxury of a dropped pass. The lost time that doesn’t come off the clock means another TD against their defense.

You know, Vick really could have used Marvin Harrison. If Marvin had been there, they could have used his gun instead of choking/drowning the dogs to death!
Vick supporter 2, will you please come by and meet your seventh kid? He’s four already!
I’ll make those chitlins you love so much…

the league wanted a level playing field. they wanted all teams to be even. now that there is pretty much parity in the NFL, most games are so even now that one bad call can decide the outcome. OK NFL, fans want to know what you are going to do to make sure your officials dont decide the outcome of games with bad calls. who knows if the falcons could have scored another touchdown, they definately had momentum on thier side, and Matty Ice did it against bigger odds in the win over Chicago. every NFL fan, except those in Philly were robbed of the chance to find out. Mike Pereira your guys stink and you stink more for standing behind them in these obviously blown situations. all we ask is to GET IT RIGHT MORONS.

Every Sunday I twiddle my thumbs while the officials check themselves on late-game calls without waiting for a coach’s challenge. But, there are boneheads in every field of work who do not want their product inspected, and Jerome Boger appears to be one of those.

The point spread was 9. The Eagles were only leading by 6. If the game had been played in New Jersey, against the Giants, the call would have been the same, but the Falcons would have also been penalized 15 yards for unsportsman-like conduct, on Coach Smith, for walking on the field. All they wanted was a push (no bettors win or lose - a betting tie). They never planned on the Falcons not being able to keep Westbrook out of the endzone. The mob (Mafia, la Costa Nostra, organized crime in America) weeps for Atlanta because of Atlanta’s insensitivity over a “Loserville” status, especially in relation to its professional football team.

Ignore “Stendec”. He hates Brooking because he is white and good. I have quoted Brooking’s statistics to him on numerous occassions. At first he claims that I made the numbers up. When I tell him about the magic of Google and NFL.com he goes amazingly silent. He’s not a Jack@ss he’s an @sshole.

You people are mostly a joke. You know, the vast majority of us Falcon fans root for the TEAM and not only for specific individuals. If we are honest, no one can deny what Mike Vick did for this TEAM and for Atlanta as a city that actually started to matter to the rest of the NFL world. Subsequently, he made bad choices and now he’s paying up for those decisions. I wish him well but as a TEAM and city we had to move on. Now, Matt Ryan is our quarterback. Most of us fans will root for him just as hard as we did for MV and pack out the Dome just as much now as we did then because he is the new leader of this TEAM. Not because he is black or white or tall or short or fast or slow but because he is a Falcon. Again, I believe I speak for the majority of Falcon fans. I guess, though, there’s always the idiots on the extreme side of any argument (who always seem to show up on these blogs) that make it unbearable for the most of us.

the falcons stink. all your wins except for Detroit have come against first year QBs. Detroit is simply horrible.
Your defense cannot stop the run and this week you have a triple head monster of mcfadden, bush, and fargas, (aka huggie bear). you have no shot folks.
the raiders will run on every down.
get used to losing folks.

How was the call “obvious”? The ball landed about an inch from his foot! It was a missed call, but a close call. And Jennings made it a close call.
And don’t act like the Falcons played like they deserved to win anyway.
