Ryan looking good

It’s only one preseason game, but Matt Ryan looks like he can play in the NFL, but it’s still too early to tell if he should be the starter. More preseason games will show us that, but probably what’s more important is how he handled himself. He looked poised and to be a team player, something the Falcons need desperately at quarterback.

The good: Snelling was impressive. He and Thomas Brown are battling. Can’t wait to see what Finneran can do this season. The Falcons have missed his reliable hands.

The bad: Hope Abraham’s ankle isn’t too serious. The Falcons can’t afford to lose him. When he’s healthy, he is a game-changer with his quickness and tenacity. Still need to figure out the run defense and cut out the penalties, two things that hurt them last season. I’m sure the Falcons are busy this week working on those. It will be interesting to see the adjustments Mike Smith has made.

Go Falcons!

Looks like the new face of the franchise is a winner. Its so refreshing to have A QB who can actually read defenses. Good call Mr. Blank

Watching highlights of Ryan and watching Brohm last night I totally understand why Dimitroff went with Ryan over Dorsey. Brohm, Henne, Flacco all are looking like they are struggling. I know it has only been 1 preseason game, but Ryan looks like he is in control and a leader. He has those intagibles that everyone spoke about during the draft. As much as I am a Vick fan, he never looked like a leader when he played.

Keep working hard Matt

Well Ed, Ryan didn’t read that blitz that left him in the turf…TWICE, but whatever helps your racist mind sleep at night.

By the way…I hear plenty of tickets are left…did all of you Ryan fans by yours yet? What’s the hold-up? Does your excitement not extend to your wallets?

Glad to see that we have a QB with a brain. The Vick nightmare seems so long ago now.Goog job Mr. Blank of attempting to reconnect with your real fan base and separate yourself from the undesirables.

JOEY HARRINGTON LOOKED GOOD IN PRE-SEASON GAMES ALSO. I SEE NOW THAT THE FUTURE OF THE FALCONS WILL BE RATINGS AND NOT WINS.

MOUNTAIN JIM - IF VICK WAS OUT OF YOUR MIND, YOU WOULD NOT BE MENTIONING HIM IN A BLOG FOR RYAN. LETS SEE HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE FOR THE “DESIRABLES” TO SELL OUT THE DOME. THEN AGAIN WHEN VICK SIGNS WITH CAROLINA, IT WILL SELL OUT.

Ahhh! It’s good to see all that blatant racism constantly displayed by Vick supporters. Example: Former STH somehow equated Ed’s comment as racist. There was nothing racist in Ed’s commment. However, the reaction of ol’ STH is a shining example of STH’s own disgusting racism. In this case, the “bit dog” hollered!

As you can see the abuse by my father affects my emotional state of mind. The Falcons will probably never sell out another game and won’t sniff the playoffs anytime soon. Get ready to turn on your radios when they play in the Georgia Dome. The next game televised from there will be the Atlanta Classic and then the SEC Championship.

Wow…..this is all the interest? Used to be 100 comments within 4 hours of a new blog on the Falcons…but…I guess nobody cares that much! Hey Ed, Mars, Mountain Jim….did you buy those season tickets or are you just the regular blog fans that Blank is quickly finding out don’t really give a flip about his lowly Falcons? Nope, all you wanted was a Golden Boy to satisy that white male envy. I guess Arthur Blank found out that don’t pay the bills. Maybe that’s why they are now trying to peddle 3 game packages….LMAO! The Titans sold out their single game tickets in 30 minutes…the falcons can’t even put there’s out yet. LOL!

Dear, AJC… I have no idea what you are paying this woman to type these bland, obvious-fact-based, boring columns but I will do it for free. Heck, I can even be funny and throw in a beer joke from time to time. I used to enjoy “Fan Man”, but this is just absurd. Did she win some contest or something? Does she have 8x11 glossies of someone high up in the Falcons’ brass picking his nose or soemthing? Jeez.

It’s early yet, but Matt is looking pretty good. Right now, I would start him the first game. Let him get some good experience in his first year. Expectations are not high for the Birds this year, so that makes for a good year to gain experience. No pressure, just go out and play your best. Next year, he’ll be a vet and maybe move the Birds to compete for the division.

Ryan looked decent for his first time out. But my concern is over the other QBs. Redman showed enough last year to be the backup or early season starter. But I hope the Falcons don’t waste time keeping Joey Harrington around. We know what he can do, throw short quick passes for very little and if there is any pressure he falls down. Shockley showed he could move to avoid the rush and make some throws as well. The pick at the end of the game was because his arm was hit. Still it was Shockleys fault but he brought much more to the table than Harrington. Please Keep DJ, Harrington at QB is a sleeping pill. This team is not going to win much this year so keeping a six-year veteran as a backup is a counter-productive move.

Ryan looks pretty good, so far. I want him to continue to progress though, because I saw some strong potential weaknesses. He’s not ready to be the franchise yet, but if he gets more comfortable, he just may be by the start of the season. But I think that he will not be ready until midseason, at best.

The next preseason game, I would like to see DJ Shockley play with the first team. If DJ Shockley can lead the first team, I would feel pretty good with our chances this season. I think that a good Ryan and a good Shockley is a good thing. I’m not too hot on Redman or Harrington.

But what is looking really good is though, are our WRs. Oh man, they look good! Roddy White made some fantastic catches, and he saved Matt Ryan from looking too bad- even when he threw balls behind the receiver. And Matt Ryan’s touchdown was mostly due to Roddy White being wide open. There had to be some breakdown in communication with Jacksonville’s DBs, but it was still great.

Yeah, Sure, lets just dump ALL the veterans and have a team full of UGA and Tech rooks out of college. Sounds like a real fine NFL team ???

Get real, the Falcons have invested BIG bucks in Matt Ryan, thats a fact. Now, We have one veteran 6-year Pro QB, Joey Harrington and, he should be starting while Ryan gets coached up. I know Bird Babe likes Joey, so that makes two of us anyway right Babe? DJ Shockley, sorry but one rookie is enough, bye bye. Start the veteran Pro, cut DJ the Scrub.

Also, can we please dispense with the Mike Vick talk? To the Vick haters: Mike Vick will not play in the NFL in 2009. He may play in 2010- if they can find a team that’s willing to pay him at least $4million.

To the Vick supporters, Vick will be just fine. The UFL will pay him the $4million, he keeps his plush residence in Miami FL, and the UFL actually WANTS for PETA and others to protest. The worst thing will be that no one cares. But plenty of people will. Either people will vehemently show their displeasure, or people will come out to support Vick and buy tickets. Either way, Vick and the UFL in general, will be just fine.

But my concern for being here is that I want to see the Falcons succeed. I hope that Matt Ryan matures and does well. I also want to give him some help.

Get rid of that malcontent Joe “has been” Horn! Horn”s petulance and intransigence, the Falcons would have a couple of options. Option #1 would be to pay him to stay away from the team. It’s been done before. The second option is to release him. Under no circumstances should the Falcons allow him onto a field, wearing a Falcons’ uniform. He’s personally, and intentionally, thrown at least one game already. He will do it again if he gets the chance. Don’t give him that chance!

By are you serious?

Just because someone thinks Matt could be a good QB means they are racist?Remember Vick was the one that broke the law and no one is to blame but himself for where he is right now.Should the falcons and their fans just wait for the next few years to hope for a winning team again. Are you people really that stupid?Remember most of us are falcon fans and not just vick fans.I say go ryan, shockley or whoever they pick to lead this team,Vick is history whether you like him or not,get over it and support the team or shut up.GO FALCONS!!!

Ryan looked good, what are you looking at? He threw behind receivers all night, the only reason Roddy had a TD was b/c he made an excellent catch of a poorly thrown ball! I am also a Joey fan, but we have to be covert otherwise we’ll be stoned! Joey gets no respect but I say Joey takes a lickin but keeps on tickin! He is tough as nails, did you see him get his face slammed & still ram it into the endzone for a TD!!! That’s balls, man. He is a good team guy, tough & will mentor Ryan about what it’s like to be a top pick under pressure in the NFL. Go Joey, go Finn, go birds.

Yo I am sick and tired of everyone calling people racists because we like Matt Ryan. He is a smart QB that will lead this team way better than that thug ConVick! Maybe all of you forgot, he SCREWED US over, not the other way around. We supported him, when he got caught with weed. We supported him when he lost games for the team by trying to be a “show boat” and we supported him when he gave ALL of us the “bird finger”! You think he cares about you? HELL NO!

So I ask you, support someone like that and have my children look up to him? No way! What kind of person are you if you do! PATHETIC! Thank GOD ConVick is gone out of this town, I pray every night he doesnt come back. The Falcons are a better team before him and we are def a better team without him! I dont care if we go 0 and 16, atleast we wont have to deal with worring about if our start QB is in jail the Saturday night before the game!

Go ahead call me a racist…Im not! Im a realist. The true racists are the ones who call the fans racists for moving on! I bet if Matt Ryan was black this conversation probably wouldnt even be happening! Freaking Pathetic…and you call yourself Falcons Fan…My @$$ you are…TRUE fans support the NOW, not the has been never will be!

Looking forward to seeing Joey play tonight. Hopefully, he will be the 3rd team QB behind Ryan and Redmen. D.J. Shlockley is not a quarterback of NFL quality. He’s a guy who runs around and scores no points. We’ve already had a failed quarterback who did that. Also, like the felonious predecessor, there are things about him that are disturbing. His father, Shlockley senior, was revealed to be a pervert. Usually the second generation perv doesn’t fall far from the raincoat!

Keep an eye out on the running back position. It is a great contest between Jason Snelling and Robert Brown. I hope they don’t let Snelling go because Brown has that UGA factor. Snelling is big, fast and can catch coming out of the backfield. I think he is noe what Micheal Turner was a couple of years ago. Don’t let a good player get away just to satisfy UGA homers. In a perfect world they could keep both.

Ryan is probably an ok QB, but with no improvements to the O-line which has always been the weakest link, we will see how well he reads defenses on his back. Once again R. White makes all kinds of catches during preseason.

More Falcon follies! Is Matt Ryan colorblind or just an ignorant SOB? The overpaid B+++++D spoiled an extremely rare exceptional Falcon defensive effort with an interception for a touchdown. Is that why mega bucks are being shelled out to this untalented yahoo? The gutless loser came to the right team. The high salaried rookie fits right in with the other heartless quitters wearing sickly red and black. More of a disaster than Kari Lehtonen. Another pitiful exhibition. Falcons need a D++M quarterback. Anybody have a number for Steve Bartkowski or Bob Berry? Can anyone say 0-16? As in no wins and 16 losses.

This game was the game that I wanted to see. Our running backs are solid. Our wideouts are solid. Our O-line (I can’t believe that I’m saying this) is solid. But our QB situation isn’t solid.

The QB is our main weakness. Matt Ryan will be pretty good someday. He has the poise to be a great QB. But this guy is just too green. He is a rookie and I can tell you that if he starts, he’s going to get killed.

I wish that he could hold a chart for a year. But we don’t even have a veteran backup that I would feel comfortable starting. I mean, I’m sorry- but Redman, Harrington, or Shockley isn’t getting it done.

To be fair, I need to see Shockley with the first team. If Shockley looks good with the first team, that may be a better option. With our line and WRs, he may serve the Falcons better. But if he doesn’t look good, we may not have an option but to start Ryan. And if Ryan starts the first game of the season, the Falcons’ season will be a long one.

I was very impressed with Ryan’s command of the huddle. This game film will allow him to view his mistakes and corrrect them. Look for big things from Ryan next week. I was also impressed with OT Baker. He appears to be the real deal. On the down side, Jamal Anderson appears to be a major bust and Shockley appears to be nothing more than a practice player who will never make an NFL roster. He just runs around mindlessly with no purpose as if he does not know what to do. The QB position requires the ability to think and he just does not have it upstairs. Congratz to Mr. Blank on the upgrades to the Dome. Great crowd for a preseason game. Also, the new fan code of conduct will make it easier for security and Dome personnel to throw out the undesirables when they get out of control.
