Falcons curse

What was I thinking? Atlanta is landlocked. Why would a Tuna come here anyway?

I wasn’t 100 percent sold on Bill Parcells in any capacity, but he certainly would have been better than what we have now. What does that say about Atlanta that a guy like Parcells would go to the Dolphins, an organization that is rumored to be on the selling block and has won one game, rather than work for an owner who is as dedicated to winning as Arthur Blank. Of course Miami in the fall and winter vs. Atlanta? No-brainer.

Another shot in the heart for the Falcons and us fans. I’m not sure who else makes the most sense now.

Good luck Arthur.

The one thing that everyone needs to consider is that Mr. Blank bought the Falcons at a desperate time in the teams future. The Smith family did one thing correct in thier ownership reign and that was to hire Dan Reeves. Mr. Blank stepped up to the plate and tryed to upgrade the team to the 21st century at his own personal cost. I appreciate all he has done and is continuing to do. So all the people that want to play “arm chair owner” your imput is not needed until you buy a share of the team. A ticket and popcorn at the game doesn,t cut it.

The question is, will Parcells hire an old school type like Singletary to coach the Falcons or some puppet that he can easily manipulate?

By Larry

December 19, 2007 8:42 AM | Link to this

Is Parcells really “the next est thing?”

Parcells is a quitter! He quit on the Patriots, the Jets, and then the Cowboys when he didn’t get his way, got a better offer, or just burned out (Cowboys).

After Petrino, can the Falcons afford to gamble on another quitter or should they seek a VP/GM that will decicate themselves to this team for the next 10 seasons?

Folks, this is a VP, Operations position, not Coach. Parcells will be in charge of the Chess pieces, not he X’s and O’s. Singletary would be icing on the cake.

Any move the Falcons could make which includes the removal of Rich McScrew-up will be a vast improvement! If Parcells wants a real challenge, well this job is the one! I wish I could think he’d seriously consider it but he is something this organization had never seen: a football-man!

I will fully support any coach who pledges to immediately jettison Deangelo Hall and Roddy White, and who is willing to make it crystal clear to the kool-aid drinkers out there that Vick ain’t EVER coming back. At the very least, that would shut some of these idiots up, and make attending the games a little more palatable.

If he comes, there will be at least 20 new players in Falcon uniforms next season. A. Attitudes. B. lack of NFL talent C. Need to retire

Hey, at 3- 13, what do you have to lose. Get some Fast, young, jacked up great attitude players in here. I swear, 7 or 8 players are ruining that lockroom. Move them out.

It will work only if Blank will take his seat in the stands and stay out of the operational side of the picture as far as pure football goes..he has no business interfering anymore if he really wants to get this turned around…removing himself will be the greatest value to the Falcons..

Parcells would be a great hire. Meangelo and Roddy White would be run out of town. Crumpler will be right behind them if he doesnt shed the weight. Like Blanc says, lay off the fried chicken.

By preston

December 19, 2007 9:43 AM | Link to this

diogenes- why would you want to get rid of two of your better players on the team? Getting rid of those guys makes zero sense…..you people have turned D-hall into a monster, when in actuality he has been a very solid corner for the team. He has had episodes of frustration, but can you blame him? He hasn’t costed the falcons any more games this year than that kicker that they had to “jettison” out this year, or Harrington or Leftwitch. Wasn’t Randy Moss a “bad guy” before he went to New England? But I don’t hear anybody saying a word about the guy now, even though he has had prior run-in’s with the law. Roddy White has shown that he has progressed, and getting rid of him would be just plain old dumb…..so what is really your problem with those guys?

Parcells had four years in Dallas and didn’t make the playoffs, and he quit.He didn’t know how to handle Terrell Owens, one of the best players in NFL. The taam was glad to see him go. The Falcons don’t need a washed up Parcells.

December 19, 2007 9:52 AM | Link to this

Hi Bird Babe. May be in minority but do not think Tuna is answer. Never have been personally impressed with guy. Does not come across as hard iron glove discipline master these quitters require. Do not think I am wrong. Parcells seems to be foot shuffler. Hard to explain. Much like Putridwino except not to THAT extreme. MAKE SENSE? Oh well. Not a positive Tuna vote here. Sorry!

By Ramblin Wrecker

December 19, 2007 9:59 AM | Link to this

CJR,

Do some research man. Parcells took Dallas to the playoffs in two of his four seasons there and the roster that is currently 12-1 is made up mostly of players Parcells acquired. Do I think Parcells should be the coach for the falcons? No. But the guy knows football and knows how to evaluate players. That’s what the Falcons need to replace Rich McKay.

By Singletary?

Dallas fan here. I think this would be a great hire for you guys. Everybody forgets that before parcels came to dallas, we had back-to-back 5-11 seasons and only dismal hopes for the future. Jerry Jones was desperate. Now we have best record in NFC, and 99% of the starters were picked by Bill.

By Brooking sux

December 19, 2007 10:06 AM | Link to this

Get rid of Brooking. Cut him or trade him. Trade Crumpler, D. Hall, Abraham, and Boley for draft picks. Draft and build both lines of scrimmage. This is what Parcells will do, hopefully.

Bill Parcells is an instant solution to a very dirty problem that could last for years. If he comes, every good coach and GM will want to work with him because he brings credibility to the Falcons, and his no-nonsense attitude will clean house. Whoever got this idea started-thank you!

It’s been more than 20 years since the Falcons had football men in charge (Eddie LeBaron and Leeman Bennett). So many good coaches in the league now are Parcells disciples, I cannot help but think he will land us a good one. Good going Blank! And McKay’s going. Good!

Preston, my problem with those two is that they are unprincipled, asinine, mindlessly-combative, immature, whining, corrosive, self-centered idiots. They have wasted no opportunities being divisive influences within their own cluhouse, and have managed to alienate most responsible ticket-buying fans. The vast majority of people I know want nothing to do with this team until the likes of those two are jettisoned, and replaced with players who understand the value of “team.”

As a person who can evaluate talent it’s no doubt that Bill Parcells is capable. He’s still not the person I’d had chosen, maybe Dan Reeves turned down the job, due to his personality. But there are alot of free agents who’d want to play for him, depending on the coach he hires. One thing is sure, Bill Parcells will definitely run the football operations. Mike Singletary as coach would still be a good fit. D Hall is probably the better trade bait for a better QB and/or OL-DL line help. Why was Grady Jackson ever released? The defense tired in the 2nd half on Sunday and Tampa Bay ran up the middle every play. GO FALCONS!!!! Good Luck.

By dr soul

December 19, 2007 10:48 AM | Link to this

Parcells has the credentials and will put it all at stake to leave a good legacy…there are plenty of prospects out there that would like to be associated with him…he is proven, though many would dislike his personality; he does know football and organization…if he can only keep Blank out of the picture and be allowed to be his own man and not let the ‘novice money many’ taint this organization any further…this will be the last hope for Blank to succeed, if he is smart enough to take his ego and be totally silent EVERYWHERE..!!!

By mountain jim

December 19, 2007 10:48 AM | Link to this

I support the move, but I think you folks not including Dan Reeves in your ‘football men’ here are mistaken. He was a football man. He was not a great GM though, and his draft decisions were what lead to his ouster.

It’s clear that McKay was overrated and his upper-round draft choices and free agents mostly have been misses, so this fixes all that.

Wow diogenes, I know there are some fans that do not like D-hall, but I have never heard anyone come close to using those very unsavory terms to describe White, and if you have ever heard any interviews with D-hall, you will know that they have always been professional and articulate. Admittingly, D-hall can be immature and unprincipled on the field, but you, and others have gone overboard in your dislike for the guy, he is really a pretty good corner, infact, the best on our team…….let’s get a winning atmosphere and a solid coach, and let’s see if his attitude changes……if it worked for Moss, why can’t it work for Hall?……but getting rid of the guy will not help this team at all.

The real problem with the Falcons is that Boley won’t step it up.

By Ryder

December 19, 2007 11:24 AM | Link to this

Here’s the thing with Singletary: He is first and foremost a DEFENSIVE minded coach, much like Jack Del Rio in Jacksonville. Anyone who knows anything about Parcells knows that he is the kind of guy who likes to play the kind of football that wins games in Janurary: run the ball and stuff the run. Say Goodbye to Warrick Dunn and that small offensive line. Parcells will want a power running attack to go along with Norwood.

Parcells and whomever he hires as a coach will bring in a QB who is capable of being efficient and be a leader on the field. Say Goodbye to Chris “I should’ve stayed in the insurance business” Redman and Joey “backup for life” Harrington.

Every move Parcells makes will be glamorized and dissected. I think he wants to prove that he can still construct a winner. It’s part of his ego.

Now then, for DHall and others, I think they will stay with the program because they will believe in what Parcells and (hopefully) Singletary (or even Schottenheimer) is preaching. They have the winning pedigree and reputation, which earns instant respect.

As for the X’s and O’s, I doulbt Jason Garrett will come here, so I think they will hire another bright Offensive Coordinator who will emphasize their style of football.

Of course if Parcells doesn’t take the job then this is all for moot.

I have got ask the same question. Why is everyone pushing Singletary? Here is the resume:

YEARS COACHING BACKGROUND HEAD COACH 2006-Current Assistant Head Coach/Defense San Francisco 49ers - Mike Nolan 2005 Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers San Francisco 49ers - Mike Nolan 2003-2004 Linebackers Baltimore Ravens - Brian Billick

How does this make for a Head Coach. Great player, not enough experience as coach to be a Head Coach, especially for the Falcons. Falcons need to build a team from scratch, i.e., players who want to play not cry babies and prema-donnas.

Parcells is the MAN and whomever he brings as the Head Coach will be the right choice.

Those who are pushing Singletary as the next Falcons Head Coach, what Kool-Aid are you guys drinking. Geeeeez.

I know a lot of intelligent, ethical, and unbiased African-Americans who have clear minds undistorted by their own racism. Free Mike Vick is not one of them. “Whitey” didn’t invest millions in an illegal enterprise (“business” to you Free Mick Vick), “Whitey” did not fight or kill dogs as Mike Vick did. ANY dope smoker knows what Mike Vick had in the bottle in that airport and what it was for. “Whitey” did not give a beautiful Black woman herpes. “Whitey” did not lie to authorities numerous times, the result of which was a more severe sentence for him. “Whitey” did not rat out his “‘brotha to save his own skin. Idiots like Free Mike Vick are why Black culture keeps self-destructing. “Whitey” doesn’t have to do anything to Blacks - you do it to yourself. Wake up before it’s way too late!! Mike Vick is an excellent and an inspirational quarterback, whose running skills for his position are yet unparallelled. Mike’s fault, and his downfall is his flawed character. I hope he serves as an inspiration to the Black culture to break out of a “get over on somebody” mentality which is seemingly pervasive. I bet Mike knows some some for-real thugs NOW. Just maybe some young Black will see that the “Thug” way is a false way leading to self-destruction and is hurtful to others. Maybe some good can come from what “whitey” did to Mike. It’s too late for Free Mike Vick.

If David Duke and Free Mike Vick is the same person.

They both sounds like two sides of the same coin. And I believe that people come in this blog, spout racist banter, and have their giggles.

Also,

Would it be possible to get a head coach that can truly be a manager type, like a Dan Reeves or a Dick Vermeil (not necessarily those guys specifically).

Then go a get a good Offensive Coordinator and hire Mike Singletary as Defensive Coordinator. After a few years, name Mike Singletary as head coach and you can get yourself a dynasty.

Freemikevick is an illiterate bumpking whose educational background does not go beyond ninth grade. There’s no wondering about that. Matt Ryan, LT with our first 2nd round pick, and a MLB with our second 2nd round pick. A RG with our 3rd round draft pick. A power runner with one of our 4th round picks and an athlete (KR/WR) with our other 4th round pick. If we can pick up another FA OT, the Falcons will be right back in shape to compete in the NFC. You doomsayers need to look at the big picture. There aren’t many teams in the league that are really creating dynasties outside of the Patriots, Steelers, and Cowboys. Every other team in the league could turn out to be the worst team in the league next year. I believe this is what the Falcons needed. We need to clean house, but not of the only talent we have. What these players deserve is a good GM to find them good teammates and a coach they can respect and give 100% for. That means D. Hall, C. Houston, and R. White. Man you people are so short sighted. When was the last time we had anyone close to 1,000 yards receiving ? Have you all forgotten when our secondary used to be absolutely horrible ? They can support whoever they want, because they are not politicians. Their job is not to represent how you feel about issues. Their job is to play football, and play well despite circumstances. Everyone has done so except Crumpler and Joe Horn. I think both of those veterans can go, but not our young players. I’m glad our fans have little effect on the GMs decisions or the Falcons would have absolutely no team.

Stendec: glad I could hunt you down! You’re correct in your assessment that Tuna isn’t the right man for this team. Old foggies likwe him need to be in cities where it’s 80 degrees everyday. NOW TO WHERE WE MUST BUTT HEADS!! Your assessment of the “Free M.Vick” crowd needing to be booted out of the NFL is at best racist and at worst Naziist! The white fan base who is truly color blind (very few) stopped paying attention to this situation when the players involved were fined! LET THOSE PLAYERS STAND UP FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVE! THEY KNEW THAT THEIR ACTIONS WOULD DRAW FINES! The Falcons would have had sustained success if they were able to cater to a majority white fan base who cared less whether the coach/qb were black or white! Cities that have successful teams want the faces of their team to be competent, not of a specified race. So white Falcon Nation: please allow McKay to hire Singletary if he deemed the best fit for the task at hand. If he is anywhere close to the competence of Lovie Smith, then he needs to be hired now!! PS: to blogger NWA: I detest your mindset as much as white racist mindsets! But I must say your idea of bringing Dungy and Singletary on board would be good! Football is a game of the fundamental aspects of blocking, tackling, passing, and catching. Our team does not do that very well. That is where I would begin.

Mr. Duke: Before you got to the watermelon issue, you made some good points. Simply don’t believe that “Free MVick crowd should be booted out of the league (as stendec. suggested). Now if the Falcons want to trade them (NOT JUST GET RID OF THEM) then fine! Hope we get somebody who can play OL and DL in return! Back to the coaching issue. Marty is a proven winning coach! A no-nonsense coach to boot! If the Falcon hire him, then good! But the one thing that Marty is not blessed with is the ability to motivate! Singletary is a master motivator and motivation is the Falcons greatest need! On paper he might not be a perfect hire but one camnnot deny this: bring him and Dungy to town and you send a clear message to the players and fans that losing is unacceptable! Better is the fact that it sends a message that players poor conduct issues will not be tolerated (and admittedly the black players need to understand this quick!) I believe that if Singletary was hired earlier this year, Vick would not be in prison and the Falcons would have nine wins by now! Petrino is a fine coach, but not the type to get get a player to change his poor conduct ways! If Singletary is hired (quite possible) and he can bring Patrick Willis with him, Falcon Nation should rejoice! In the end, I just hope that Mckay has the foresight and the marbles to do (and spend the money) what’s right for the team! PS BLANK WANTED SINGLETARY OVER PETRINO! MAYBE HE KNEW THAT SINGLETARY POSSIBLY COULD GET THROUGH TO HIS TALENTED BUT TROUBLED “FACE OF THE TEAM!”)

The watermelon comment was thrown in for the benefit of the gentleman hatin’ on Whitey. I hope he appreciated it. What makes you think Tony Dungy would come here? He’s still needed and wanted in Indianapolis. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see him here but I don’t think it will happen. As for the usual suspects, time for a new day. Bring in Jason Garrett or some other young coach on the rise. Marty has been a great coach but his day has come and gone. Singletary is a straight-up guy and I’d love to have him here!

What is the one common denominator in Falcon F-ups? Offensive star Vick? No! The Coaches? No! It’s Blank. Arthur Blank was a genius at stocking hardware shelves, but he’s a chump at football. The problem is not in our stars, but in our shelves.

No self-respecting coach would come to Atlanta under present conditions. Conditions being: five or six players in the clubhouse who are over-paid and WAAY under talented! As long as these cry babies are on the roster, the Falcons are history..Sorry Mr. Blank, but it’s time to cut ties with D.H. and Alge for starters…

Longtime fan from NYC. Mr.Blank, save face & hire Dan Reeves in the position Parcells would have had, overseeing the operations. Hire Nix as GM & Marty as coach, offer Singletary the Assistant Head Coach job (I know he is one in SF already but there are also a losing team-no better than us) , since Marty is up there in age, promise him THE JOB after Marty!!! We do have the talent (except OL),just need the right MGT parts….trade for more draft picks!
