Make it stop

All I want for Christmas is a somewhat respectable NFL team.

I thought the guys would show up this weekend after the crazy week they’ve had. Thought they’d want to show Petrino something, but maybe they don’t have anything to show.

No wonder Cowher doesn’t want to come here. Kind of tough to win a game when you only have the ball for 17 minutes. Guess we should have seen this blowout coming when the Falcons gave up the Bucs’ first kick return TD in the first quarter.

I really wish Blank could just call the league and forfeit the rest of the season. This is really too much to bear.

Oh Bird Babe, If only they did not fire Dan reeves. We just might have made this hell hole of a season respectable. go back to home depot King Arthur. Even your friend in Dallas Jerry Jones stabbed you in the back. You know Petrino’s back door buddy! That goes to show how “nice” your friends in the NFL really are! By the way MeAngelo Hall nice interception today to go with your stupid a$$ penalties!!!

Fire Rich McKay now. My $2 grand will go to the Dawgs next year in addition to my current contribution. What a joke this organization has been and IS EVEN more so now. I was stupid to sign on in 2001.

Hi Bird Babe. I am probably too disgusted to type coherently. Agree that backstabber Putridwino is toilet scum but, that said, who are Falcons going to blame quitting ways on now? Interim coach? Owner? Fans? Santa Claus? Players gave up before first regular season kickoff. That was obvious to all true Falcon watchers. Enjoyed more temper tantrums from overrated DeA++hole Hall! Loser should have been ejected. Hell, he was even put to turf by member of officiating crew. EASILY, I MIGHT ADD! Way to go zebra. All of us have been wanting to do that all season. Solution? Send all packing except Andersen, Norwood and (reluctantly) Redman. Veterans are classless MF CS SOBs! TO A MALE (man not term which applies here). Quit on fans, teammates and selves. NO EXCUSES! Will probably type more later. No-talent SOB quitters gave me headache. Merry Christmas.

Arthur you may have money but nothing else. You are a tired act that should sell the team or move it to Los Angeles. Dan Reeves has more class and knowledge of football in his big toe than you will ever have. Looks like your sin of 2003 has finally come back around.

Oh Arthur by the way, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Bird Babe,

I’m sitting here watching the Falcons climb to a virtual tie for #2, draft pick that is…

With only 2 games to go we still have a chance to lock in that #2 draft pick! There’s no way in heck we’ll get #1 with Miami playing New England next week but #2 is our’s for the taking.

Now we just need for Mr Blank to take draft decision authority away from McKay. I say we package Hall and a reasonable draft pick to get a 2nd Top 5 pick and draft the best OL and best DL in the draft.

2008 is our year! Dirty Bird!

You people want to know what else is wrong with this team other than: Vick, Petrino, D-Hall? Its fans.

Where do all of you negative, lets hate everybody, curse Arthur Blank people come from?

Do ANY of you remember what this team was before Mr. Blank? It was like this season only EVERY YEAR!!!!!

I personally believe that the decisions Arthur has made were in the effort to give us the best team he could. He’s made some mistakes but hopefully learned from them.

The consistency is lacking but we’ve still won more under A.B. than we ever did under the Smiths.

Yes, this season is lost, but hopefully, we’ll begin next season with Redman handing off to McFadden and Mike Singletary telling D-Hall to shut up and play or I’ll drop you myself!!!!!

Don’t forget D.J. Shockley! He still has a chance to be a good NFL starting QB when he comes back next year from his injury, and he’s got a better arm and mobility than any of the Falcons QB’s right now, plus he doesn’t have the long throwing motion of Loserwich.

I’d like to see D.J. Shockley, Darren McFadden and line up J-Rock in the slot with Mike Singletary’s discipline on the team, they have a chance to rebound right back.

Don’t forget the O-Line gets healthy next year, you never know!

This was perhaps the worst game I’ve ever seen. No execution. No heart. No energy. No class.

If I was Blank, I’d have gone off and left their sorry butts to find their own way back home.

Hope Mr. Blank realizes that drastic measures are required. A lot of players should be released.

Mr. Blank, you’ve got to bite the bullet, take the hit, cut to the root. You not only need a new coach, but a major overhaul of the team. This will take a few years, but you’ve got to stop cutting the man’s leg off an inch at the time and do the complete job as quickly as possible.

I’m embarrassed and wish we could forfeit the remaining games, but since that is not possible, hope it will serve as a motivating experience to make the tough decisions to start the rebuilding process immediately.

Nooody is forcing you guys to watch are they? The veterans are not classless. It’s hard to win without an OL or a QB. There’s a reason that nobody is knocking down the doors for Harrington, Redman or Leftwich.

You can’t play man coverage on D unless you’re getting a sustained pass rush. It’s been dysfunctional all season so why would it change now?

From NFL.COM (it’s only been a secret to us)

Petrino assistants were ready to leave If Bobby Petrino didn’t leave for Arkansas first, there would have been a mass exodus of Falcons assistant coaches. Many of them, even the majority of them, couldn’t stomach the idea of working another season for a head coach that had lost the trust and faith of his assistants.

Had Petrino stayed, many assistants wouldn’t have. As it is, not all Falcons assistant coaches will be back.

For starters, interim head coach Emmitt Thomas had been planning to retire after this season after an illustrious career, and it looks like this will be his final three games. Thomas has much to look forward to after this season.

Thomas is one of two senior candidates, along with former Chicago Cardinals back Marshall Goldberg, nominated for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2008.

Even before arriving in Atlanta, Thomas certainly has served his time in football. He starred for 13 seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs and intercepted 58 passes. Thomas was a key component of the Chiefs defenese that won AFL titles in 1966 and 1969.

Same song - 14th verse. This is a horrible, pathetic football team. This whole sorry bunch should have gone to Arkansas with Petrino. They deserve each other. If they were “playing for pride” today, it is obvious they ain’t got any. To not even be competitive anymore is really sad for this sorry franchise. You people harping for a high draft pick are a lot more optomistic than I am. It is going to take a lot more than that to get this team respectable again. Good luck.

In the Year 2525 a trivia question will be linked to Tampa Bay and the only kickoff return touchdown they EVER scored. My, how truly pathetic THOSE Falcons MUST have been! So thoroughly and completely reviled and disgusted! All players on field when return occurred should be horsewhipped then exiled to Oakland Raiders! F+++++G quitters. No Falcon even tried to get a finger on him! Is it not enough you quit on fans? Must you rub S++T in our faces, too? To Hell with you heartless CS SOBs! What could you expect after the turmoil that’s been the Falcon’s week. The defense played well, since the offense kept putting them in the position they did. No first downs and all the turnovers, the Defense got tired physically and mentally. GOOD JOB DEFENSE. I’m glad Bill Cowher turned down the Falcons, if the offer to coach was actually made. I think he’s overrated as a coach, average at best. He won one Superbowl in 15 years, and teased the owners prior to that by making the playoffs. Sounds like the Braves. Dan Reeves as GM and Mike Singletary as coach would be the best fit. Keep Rich McKay around for another year as team president to handle contracts or let him go and hire a team president who’s duties would be contracts only. Leave player evaluation to the GM and coach. Oh yeah, Merry Christmas.

The Falcons’ organization is a business like any other. POOR MANAGEMENT is why a business fails, not the actual business itself. Can any of you adequately LEAD without ANGER. When one in a leadership position has plenty of anger on the inside, I highly suggest that person step down. The Federal Reserve doesn’t have the money it would take for Cowher to come here so I don’t even know how that pipedream got started. This team’s issues isn’t the result of Vick or Petrino….its the result of the Owner and GM. Vick hid it from you idiots all this time, and Petrino refused to take the fall for it. Are y’all still being duped into believing that the “offensive guru” was bought in for any reason other than Blank’s cash cow?? Who still thinks back in January that Petrino and McKay discussed the long-term prospects of this team and its direction?? The man was hired over the phone!!!!!!!!! There was never any intent for the hire to be long-term. Petrino was outta here the minute MV got indicted….but he put a dent in the plans of Blank and McKay. He was supposed to wait until Jan so they could spin it nicely. Petrino’s crazy control-freak ways aside, he was not supposed to be rebuilding sh!t….he was just supposed to be all about MV…and now this shock that he dipped in the night like a cat burglar?? LOLOL…please….stop being fooled by this national pity party for Arthur Blank… the only thing he is thinking about is merchandising sales and PR. I believe the next moves by ‘Blank’ will seal the Falcons fate one way or another as a franchise. Now is the time when real leadership comes forth, or lack of.

Unfortunately virtually all of Blank’s past insights from Vick, to Petrino, to the season have been wrong.

History does not suggest Arthur Blank will get this right, and getting it wrong could eventually send the team out of Atlanta. The team, Arthur Blanks, is a liability to the city right now.

Pride was/is a deadly sin.

By stendec

The priority should be installing a defensive-oriented head coach. It is obvious Redman and Shockley have potential but the offense will be woeful next seaon. Norwood could become another Jamal Anderson if he remains healthy. No decent receivers in sight except Finneran. Or is he out forever? If offense musters more than 11 points per game it will be plus. Defense needs to be forever on attack. Takeaways will be key. No more 30+ point efforts by foes! Coach should cut loose malcontents. Any MV supporters or those with sympathy for him should not be offered contracts! Good riddance to bad rubbish. New coach must rule with iron fist. If veterans quit then bench them. Someone always in wings looking for opportunity. Merry Christmas!

after all the mouthing-off and finger pointing at Petrino being the sole reason for all the problems in this world, i sort of expected the falcons to go out today and play tough and with some attitude. they had no pressure, nothing to lose. but i should have known better…… anyway, does it really matter if we have the number 2, 3, or 4 pick if its Rich McKay doing the picking? or worse, if its Arthur himself? the level of disgust with this team, this franchise if probably reaching a new low, because we’ve all believed the hype machine, and now we all see it for the mirage it was. One Player. build a team around One Player. Well- i guess that didn’t work. so lets get the right people in place and build the team from the ground up. and this time, Arthur- please pay some attention to character. maybe the best way to do that is to avoid anybody associated with virginia tech.

Hall is our best corner. If you can find a better corner thats willing to come to Atlanta you let me know. Hall is matched with the other team’s best wideouts. If you watched every Broncos game you would see Champ getting beat at least once a game. Falcon fans need to be thankful for what we have. Wake up folks. I was watching the Falcons when Randy Johnsons was the quarterback. Who remembers Hampton getting 1000 yards then losing yards on the next play! The problem here was not Petrino, it is Blank and McKay and a bunch of ‘so called’ professionals who have given up. The players who were loudest last week (MeAngelo) are the ones who gave up first and now have an easy excuse as to why they are so bad. Bottom line, until we get a reasonable owner and reasonable players the Falcons will continue to be a JOKE! No respectable coach would come to this disaster.

These guys don’t represent you so if you don’t like those who play then don’t watch it. I love football and will root for the team. Organizaions go in cycles. WoW! Thanks Lynne, at last someone else understands Arthur Blank’s incompentence as a manager. Remember, the company he co-founded (HD)fired him and brought in Nardelli (sp).

Blank is not a leader (see Bernie Marcus for this attribute)and not a good judge of character (see MV7 & that jackass, MEHa21). He has been meddling in the day to day football ops since he bought his new toy. He fired a local hero (Dan Reeves)because he couldn’t bully & meddle with him about the team prayer - please!!

Blank is a slimy salesman who looks down his nose at others. All the media praise of him is so overrated and self-servingly misrepresented. I worked for him when he first opened HD here in ATL and he brought slimey people with him from CA - I knew him when he was still a poor man (before Bernie carried him on his coattails to HD Nivana). He was a slime ball then and is only a rich one now. Money doesn’t build character in an owner any more than it does for the players.

This “team” (laughable) will only further self-destruct with Blank at the helm. However, if he were able to swallow his arrogance and turn over the organization to competent football people (not McKay) then maybe, maybe the Falcons could be an organization that the community, one & all, could be proud to support.

MV was an amazing athlete to watch (at times), and I enjoyed him at VT and under Reeves. However, he admittedly bankrolled and participated in something that at least is considerd cruel. Not much different than the treatment of the African slaves brought to the US in the 1700 & 1800’s if one thinks about it. Even he admits the evil nature of it in his letter to the judge. MV was another victim of Blank’s ineptitude to truly inspire greatness.

However, I believe most of those who flaunt MV7 by wearing his jersey only show their need to spit in whitey’s face rather than empathy for the man. They claim he put seats in the dome but did the TEAM win. What is more important - to see their answer to Paul Hornung (see his Heisman trophy year) or to have a WINNING TEAM? I for one want a winning team to support and be proud of.

Now MWHa21 has taken up the mantle of the next Falcon player to self-destruct under the Blank regime as evidenced in his total disregard to play within the rules of this great sport no matter how it affects the team. He claims he should be treated as a man but acts as a spoiled brat when his skills fail him. HE HASN’T TACKLED ANYONE THIS YEAR. Watch him avoid any chance to be involved in a tackle downfield. He only takes cheap shots and causes penalties. Nothing he has done this year warrants the community to look up to him. He was willing to split on his teammates too as soon as the season was over. Now he thinks he could stay. The integrity of the TEAM could be helped if Blank, McKay and Thomas, in concert, benched him for the two remaining games. But as I see it it all talk and no action. Same as this team/organization.

A racial divide sales papers. I only come on the site on gameday…throughout the week? I refuse, refuse to buy it, ever. It is what it is. Just look at the polls and think about all the questions that were never answered and will never be answered surrounding any story on MV or Petrino’s hire or Blank’s “trust” (gimme a break)……..From day one of having a black face in the hallowed position of what is considered the “golden boy” position, the AJC has sought to make it as controversial as possible…and these blogs just fuel that fire.

Dan Reeves? DAN REEVES? You have got to be kidding me. The game had passed by “we didn’t ex-e-cute” years ago. Notice how all the NFL teams are lined up to hire him? Anyone that complains about firing Reeves is … well, let’s say sentimental. We can thank Dan for bringing Vick to town. Note to BLank: No QBs under 6-2. NO more VA TECH thugs.

All in all, today just brings the Falcs closer to a high draft pick. There is no reason to win a single game from here on out. Of course, given the track record, they will blow whatever pick they get.

My God, would they please trade DeAngelo for Chrissake?!?!

LYNNE - I really don’t know what to make of these blogs. When was the last time anyone ever killed a dog and done time for it? I wonder how many of these rednecks even know that Michael Vick is the winningest quarterback in this sorry Falcon’s history. He is the only quarterback that has won playoff games in different seasons. Other than being racists, their arguments don’t have any logic. I don’t feel anyone should go to jail for “bs” but if it had to happen to MV this may be the perfect time. Everyone was blaiming him for the Falcons losses and never appraising him for the victories. All of the NFL, America and the world are seeing this organization unravel and Vick is nowhere in the picture. If he just waits patiently, when he gets out, if these rednecks were complaining about the 130 million (like it’s their money) just wait and see the contract he gets next. GMs are going to say “wow how could that guy win so many games on that team”? So this may have been a blessing for MV.

Bobby Petrino has no shame…he is now hated and reviled at the professonal level, will never ever coach in the NFL and is now unmasked as a coach and human being with no ethics. BUT, he probably has quite a few million in the bank he duped from suckers like Lousville, the Falcoons and now Arkansas, so what could he care? If that is his measure of life’s success, I feel abundantly sorry for him and his family. May they carry the stigma of loser, backstabber, and low moral character with them. In my heart, I’d love to see the Falcons attain a measure of respectability in the NFL. But that doesn’t seem likely for the next several years.

So, since Atlanta has become the self-acclaimed “Capitol of Black America”, I guess the Falcons should join the city and county government, police, sheriff, social services, mental health, post office etc in releasing all the white players and hiring Singletary since that seems to be the only way to stop the mindless division that permeates every area of life in Atlanta.

Some of you knuckleheads just can’t get it through your head that the race of the quarterback is not the issue. We just want to win.

Cowher can cherry pick what team he goes to. There is not enough money in the WORLD for him to come to Atlanta. That goes for almost all other good coaches. Atlanta is a pit, a black hole. Why would someone wish to move here? Probably 40% of the fans think Vick was railroaded, and it’s pretty much ok to dog fight and hang a dog now and then. Blank has the money, but what is the appeal of Atlanta? Golf. That’s all I can think of. Traffic is insane, the politics are ridiculous, no ocean, no culture, not much of anything. I guess you could sell a good family environment, especially if you’re Christian or Jewish. Good HS sports structure for teens.

LYNNE - It’s rediculous! This man single handed had a record of 38-28 and before those last 2-seasons where he got absolultely no support, he had a winning percentage around 75%. No quarterback in Falcons history even came close. As much as I want to see him return to ATL and show these rednecks that he is the leader of the team and not them. However, it would bring me even more gratification if he went to another team, say Carolina and whips up on the Falcons 2 times a year, with that style that they hated so much.

The last two years or so all I heard from some of the fans in Atlanta was that they needed a drop back qb who stayed in the pocket and spoke well. They said this team would do a lot better once Vick was gone. Well he has taken not one snap this season and you got your drop back well spoken qb. Well it seems it did not help. At the end of the day everyone who knew football was saying that Vick had absolutely no help and now the whole world is seeing that. For all those that complain about the 7 and 8 win seasons, well how do you feel about 3. This team will be bad for at least another 3 years… I dont understand how a guy can get blamed for all the teams issues when he hasnt taken one snap this year. List of NFL records and milestones In 2006, Vick became the only quarterback in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards during the regular season. In 2006, Vick set the NFL record for most yards per carry in a season, at 8.4. When Vick and RB Jerious Norwood both ran for over 100 yards in Week 4 of the 2006 season, the Falcons became the only NFL team to ever record two games in a franchise’s history where both the quarterback and a running back on the same team surpassed the 100-yard mark in the same game. (Vick and Warrick Dunn both eclipsed 100 yards in Week 2 of the same season.) Vick (1,039 yards) and Dunn (1,140) became the first QB/RB tandem in NFL history to each go over the 1,000-yard rushing mark in the same season. They also became the fourth set of teammates in league history to each have 1,000 or more yards. The last set of teammates to accomplish the feat were Cleveland RBs Kevin Mack (1,104 yards) and Earnest Byner (1,002) in 1985. Earned his second consecutive and third overall Pro Bowl nod in 2005 as he passed for 2,412 yards and 16 touchdowns in addition to leading all NFL quarterbacks with 597 rushing yards and six scores. Named to the second Pro Bowl of his career after leading the Falcons to their third division title in team history and breaking numerous NFL and team records in 2004. Set an NFL postseason record for a quarterback with 119 rushing yards in the 2004 NFC Divisional Playoff win against the Rams. Became the first quarterback to ever throw for more than 250 yards and rush for over 100 yards in the same game at the Broncos (October 31, 2004). Named to the 2002 Pro Bowl, becoming the seventh quarterback to be voted to the NFL All-Star game in his first year as a starter since 1970, joining Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins (1983), Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers (1992), Kurt Warner of the St. Louis Rams (1999), Daunte Culpepper of the Minnesota Vikings (2000), Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles (2000), and Tom Brady of the New England Patriots (2001). This group would later include Marc Bulger of the St. Louis Rams (2003), Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers (2006), and Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys (2006). Top overall NFL draft choice in 2001 after a celebrated college career at Virginia Tech. Was the fourth Falcons #1 overall pick in club history (Tommy Nobis in 1966, Steve Bartkowski in 1975, Aundray Bruce in 1988)

To Unbiased_Blogger who ststed: LYNNE - It’s rediculous! This man single handed had a record of 38-28.

You statement shows your ignorance of the sport of football and of the ability of MV. He was only one member of an 11 man offense. No football player EVER has single- handedly won a game. This is a TEAM sport and as much as you wish MV was actually Superman, he was but a extremely gifted athlete. If he was capable of “single-handedly” winning a football game then he should have been 66-0 rather than 38-28. You obviously have never played the game. Your “unbiased” agenda is to promote a man (based soley on his skin color) who acted toward dogs with the same cruelty that whites acted on African slaves brought to the US in the 1700 and 1800’s.

Most Africans would find his actions reprehensible. They have a deep respect for animal life and nature not exhibited by MV and his cohorts. However, you can continue to act as if there is nothing really cruel about electricuting dogs if you like but in the end you will suffer from this indifference to life. In fact this is the plight of many young black men in America who lie dying in the streets at the hands of their own brothers due to the indifference now shown for others’ lives.

No, I am not saying that cruelty to animals began or ended w/MV. However, the fact he was not alone in his behavior and that others, white & black, participate in it, is not a sufficient reason to excuse or condone his behavior. MV did something illegal and, when caught, admitted it. He did not continue to proclaim his innocence. I for one hope he is able to redeem himself and show he has the guts to comeback and play football. But I want you to understand it is a team effort and glory is not only for the most gifted player but for the whole. team.

As for other instances of animal cruelty being an issue throughout history - you only need to go to the newspaper archives to find multiple cases of such cases being publicized and prosecuted. However, none were marquee names making $130 million playing in the NFL.

If anyone thinks things are going to improve you need to get some serious counseling. There always has to be a best and a worse. The Falcons have been and always will continue to make the wrong decisions. It will never change. In the draft they make the wrong picks, same with coaches. This team will not post a winning season in the next 10 years. Get counseling, go to therapy, find a hobby because this franchise will always be sh!t.

As we can all plainly see….. this franchise rode the coattails of ONE person. 3-11, with one TV blackout already and another on the way….and its just the first season without MV…..if that doesn’t show you, nothing will.

What an impressive list of stats. Fact is he did absolutely nothing after the novelty of having a punt returner at QB wore off. One fluke in Green Bay and a bunch of terrible seasons later where he quit on his team at mid season make him nothing more than a failure. Speaking of punt returners at QB…how’s Troy Smith working out for ya Mr. Billick?

When Vick was removed from the team, his homies on the team quit.

Plain and simple, they quit.

As far as Vick’s rushing record —- that’s all he could do since he couldn’t hit a barn with his passes and he couldn’t read defenses.

It was a “fight or flight” response.

Nevertheless, when Vick is released from prison, if he plays again in the NFL, it won’t be as a quarterback. It will probably be special teams or as a running back —- which is where he should have been all the time.

Vick simply was not smart and disciplined enough to play quarterback, nor was he willing to work hard to improve. He was lazy and preferred to hang with his homies watching dogs fight rather than watch film.

It’ll be interesting to see if the other teams in the league rush in to scoop up the laggards on this team. My guess is that they may be picked up, but it will only be a second or third tier team that would have an interest in these quitters.

Redneck media tone must stop or no one will come to Atlanta Falcons, player or coaches. Every thing need a over hual. Blank there must be a change in how this team is put together top to bottom. Blank you must talk with the media too. They are part of the problem . The most hated people in sport are black players because 95% of sport writer are white and they put black player in a bad light. Blank if this don’t change pro sport in this town is doomed just the facts!

Change in the air: The media, black or white, doesn’t make the news, they merely report it.

If black players are not depicted in a positive light, it’s because of their actions, not because of their skin color.

The black community in Atlanta should take pride in the fact that the AJC has several black writers; but instead, they are vilified as Uncle Toms when they have anything negative to say about a black. Tell me how that serves the black community.

Blacks are championed or lambasted based on their actions. And, that’s the way it should be.

Change in the airhead, so it was the AJC that caused all the problems for Vick? I don’t think so. The AJC went out of its way to offer praise to this moron when none was due. It reluctantly criticized the fool when scathing condemnation was called for. The AJC didn’t buy the property, procure the dogs, fight and murder them. Vick did all of that! He’s history in the NFL! Get a clue!

I stupidly was under the delusion that this team would come out fired up & show that pig suey that they were still a TEAM. I forgot how bad we really are, thanks for showing me, Falcons. You could have Brett Favre behind that line & they wouldn’t be able to function. Here’s what we need to do: Can the line except for McClure & Weiner if he can come back. Pay for Free agent lineman, i.e. Alan Faneca. Draft Darren McFadden 1st round. Draft a QB 2nd round (i.e. Erik Ainge), keep one of the QB’s we have now, I vote for Joey. Leftwich is made of glass & there’s reason Redman was out of football. Groom the new QB. Trade D. Hall who is so talented but more of a liablity than he’s worth. Not a team guy, period. Keep Abraham, Boley, I guess we have to keep Jamaal the 2nd, Norwood, Morten, Roddy. Bye Keith, Alge, Joe H, Jenkins. I wish we could keep Warrick, the ultimate class act, team guy & I still believe could be effective with an actual o-line. Can the entire coaching staff. If Cowher won’t bite, hire Marty Shottenheimer, a respectable successful coach who can restore order to this team. Marty is good at putting together a good staff, see San Diego. At this point, I don’t care if Marty’s teams don’t win in the playoffs, I just want a winning season & then maybe another one after that. Baby steps, people. Don’t go after another young hungry coach, we need instant respectablility. The irony is, we need a “Dan Reeves” type of guy, we’re right back where we started. I want to, but I just can’t give up on this team, there’s still a little flicker of hope. Don’t blow it please Mr. Blank & McKay.

Vicksupporter, yeah Vick had very little and his legs were worth 3-4 win’s a year. A good QB should be worth 3-4 wins a year regardless of his supporting cast. As skilled as Vick is and I actually had hopes for him to learn to be a better passer… He has no heart. He is not a leader. A leader doesn’t quit on his team like Vick did the last few games of the last two years.

It’s kind of funny for you to throw the race card in. Typical racist move throwing that in to divert your comments.

Want to fix this team? Blow it up and then look at Minnisota. Amazing O-Line and Good D-Line with a great RB (McFadden anyone?) and they are the hottest team in the NFC now. No they are not destroying people like Dallas or GB but put farve or even Romo on that team and I bet they would be.

No flashy moves (other than Mcfadden if available. Load up on Oline and Dline and build this thing from the base up.

Obviously the front office has yet to recognize the necessary talent in it’s own administration, the coaching staff, or the players.

Looks like a “top down” sweep of the organization is needed . Sometimes it is best to clean house and start from scratch. I think we are there.

I really wish Blank could just call the league and forfeit the rest of the season. This is really too much to bear.

Absolutely not. No quitting! These have certainly been trying times to say the least - but doubtful that this is the worst year in any team’s NFL history.

Unbiased Blogger,

First of all, Vick wasn’t that great of a Quarterback. A good quarterback has to be smart, and looking at some of Vick’s “hand written” letters, he looks more like a grade school drop out. If you can;’t figure out that Vick is a poor excuse for a human being and deserves all the bad luck he can get, then you are as dumb as he is.

Wow! I have been an Atlanta fan for a long time. I currently do not live in Atlanta but still follow Atlanta sports. I have seen a lot of sorry teams come through this city but this one takes the cake. Petrino looks to be brilliant in my mind “Run Bobby Run”. The players can no longer blame a coach they do not like. Being able to watch tv or listen to music does not make you a good player. If I were Arthur, I would treat this is an expansion team, fire everbody and start over next year. This team is disgusting.

It is time for everyone on these blogs to stop spitting your ignorance about Michael Vick, he is gone, he is not coming back to play for Atlanta and he is not thinking about you and what hatred you have in your hearts for him. I can understand the anger from him disappointing you at not being here. I can understand the hurt of him breaking the law and letting people down. I can understand the anger that he hurt animals that some of you feel are more important than humans but I cannot understand how during this time of year when the season is about the birth of the greatest person in history (Jesus) you can still teach and write about hate for a human being, for any human being, it is sad and the worst thing about it is this paper loves it. There are no winners in this mess. Michael, Atlanta, Fans, Owner, Sponsors, Vick’s Family, Children, and most of all Humanity we all lost in this. It is time to move on and learn. Michael has why can we as human beings stop this and move on to.

PLEASE HIRE MIKE SINGLETARY!! He would be perfect for this situation. This team, more than ever needs a real LEADER. A guy who knows the how to inspire others, a guy with an undeniable NFL pedigree that EVERYONE in the league respects. This team needs inspiration. You put a good staff around this guy and I truly believe he could turn this thing around. You’re not going to get an A-list coaching canidate to sully himself with this situation here in Atlanta so you might as well get a guy who’d be appreciative and loyal to this orginization for giving him a chance. I think the guys would play hard for Singletary. It could go a lonnnnng way in adjusting the attitude of this team which is sorely needed. Go and get it done Blank, you’d feel better in the am trust me!!

Hey, if you guys aren’t going to utilize the Norwood kid, why don’t you let him go, so that someone else can showcase his talents, and allow him to actually contribute to winning a game??? He has a great attitude and work ethic so I really don’t think he fits in very well with your team. Every other time he gets the ball something big develops. He’s one of the top backs in the league for yards per carry/catch and was last year. Nine carries yesterday — looks like the interim coach is as stupid as Mora and Petrino. Anyway, draft a back and let Norwood go. I’ll guarantee you someone like Denver or New England would snatch him up. Your team is only stunting an otherwise fantastic career. Just my opinion.

Anyone remember when the classy Vick family started a fight with Chris Chandler’s family at the dome? Chandler went down with an injury, and Vick’s mom and one of his dads started cheering because their boy was going to get to play. If I remember, Vick’s mom threw a beer can and hit Chandlers dad. Classy woman there! Then seeing her sob on TV the other day because her ‘boy’ was going to the pokie because his homies turned him in. Classic!

The organization is completely classless! From the fans all the way up to the front office, including the players. I don’t go to the games, don’t watch them on TV, or buy anything that says Falcons on it. Last year my son got a Vick jersey, and we returned it. I really enjoyed telling the lady behind the counter why I was returning it to. She probably still thinks I am a racist.

I don’t blame Petrino one bit. If they are anything like what I see on ESPN, I would leave to. Serves the organization right.

Go Falcons, to another city, please.

This franchise will never turn around unless there’s a face-lift from the top down to the bottom. Can we all agree that McKay’s only in the NFL because of his bloodlines? The only 1st rounders we have left in his tenure are Jenkins and Roddy White. White’s flashed some potential, but is McKay good for anything other than finding decent LB’s in the 5th round?

Mr. Blank, please make the only sensible move. Parcells wants a Senior Mgmt position. Give him McKay’s job and let him do whatever the f******* he wants!!

jmt, Vick is a Felony, he is in prison for this reason, not his shin color.. Most Falcons fans are disappointed and hurt by his actions. He lied to Falcons, fans(you), NFL, and City of Atlanta. I am sure if he had to go all over again he would choose a different direction. There are racial tones , fans are hurt to see Falcons crumple and lose football games and they react. Mike Vick dug his own grave, embattle Falcons and lost millions of dollars personally, plus his team., so quit protecting MV, understand people feelings and maybe some day he will have a chance to redeem himself.

We need a totally fresh start. I’d prefer just cleansing this pitiful franchise from our psyche and starting anew. But if that doesn’t work, let’s change the name…make it the “Georgia __ “….let’s not even associate the team with the thug/ghetto city of Atlanta anymore.

Next, change the colors and maybe even the logo. Since the true love for football around here is with college ball, why not combine the colors of tech and UGA….come out with Red and gold, with black trim (a la USC). i think it would be sharp and different from anything in the NFL.

Fire the players that open their mouths in the locker room and in front of the press. I’ll bet the receivers, crumple, and dumbasselo hall will be 1st n line to go. When any QB - primarily Harrington in this case, throws a perfect pass to a receiver and bounces it “off their hands” he should be allowed to punch them in any part of the body he chooses. Not like he isn’t taking a beating himself by defenses alloowed to pummel him by his offensive offensive line. This season has been a sickening series of trashy events. Petrino was right to leave. Hilarious. If the Falcons had their act together, they would have won this last game. Hopefully, either I can move to Miami - the Dolphins would probably provide something - anything - much better than this version of “I Love New York # whatevah!”

Poor Billionaire “Saint” Blank. Petrino was never comfortable coaching in the pros (i’m sure it didn’t have anything to do with overpaid, uncoachable prima donnas) and was lied to by Blank and McKay when they told him from the start that they wouldn’t stand in his way if he decided to go back to the college ranks. They denied him the opportunity to talk to Arkansas, and they threatened to “make it ugly” for him if he decided to leave. Well I guess they told the truth there. Eat it up Atlanta. ESPN and Blank are spoon feeding you a story, and boy oh boy are you lapping it up. Good luck to you, and I mean it. But look to your ownership and management instead of bashing Petrino because no body will succeed there with the organization you have in place (just ask Jim Mora).

To Gens. Lee and KKK Forrest: The Falcons (along with the rest of Atlanta’s sports teams) are lousy because they have to cater to “slavery and segregation forever” mindsets of most of their white fan base (you two are clearly a part of this fan base). And if our teams keep right on catering to this white fan base, then no doubt we’ll go another 41 years with this time zero championship banners. To the Falcons: you need to hire Singletary! Yes he has some drawbacks. But I believe this whole Vick debacle would have never took place if Singletary would have been hired earliere this year. Singletary would have straightened up Vick after the water-bottle incident (and a straightened up Vick would not have been a Fed target). Vick would have played and the Falcons would have won at least nine games! Good players would want to play for the Falcons! Give Singletary a chance; he won’t do any worse than the three previous coaches! He might do significantly better!

Stendec: I understand you may not like the “Free M.Vick” displays on the football field. Those involved in it probably should be fined. But expulsion from the league?? GIMME A BREAK!! You’re probably just another example of the screwed-up mindsets that this team has had to cater to for the last 41 years (with absolutely no period of sustained success over that period of time). The Falcons will do better only when they can cater to fans who could care less whether the coach/qb is black or white! Unfortunately the majority of the fan base will NEVER be colorblind!
