Defense does it again

Joey made the play that beat the Panthers. He stayed in the pocket and found Alge up the middle and then got clobbered. No, he’s not the best quarterback in the league, but at least he plays with a lot of heart. Nice to see.

The defense was awesome again, holding the Panthers offense to 6 points. Holding the Panthers to the field goal late was huge. They were all over Testaverde. I’m not crazy to think that the Panthers are a great team, but the defense shut them down for most of the game. Testaverde couldn’t get anything going, and the rushing game was pretty much obsolete. D. Hall made a nice play on Steve Smith to strip the ball away on a play that could have been a touchdown. Boley looked solid again.

The Dunn of old is back. He’s hit his stride and has given Joey the help he needed to keep defenses on their toes. Two straight 100-yard games. Gotta keep it going against his former team next week.

Go Falcons! Let’s go for three in a row.

Has anyone noticed Harrington’s jersey has the second R backwards like a mirror image? What a loser organization!

The Falcons are so back page news now that I can’t watch the game in Alabama 2 hours away from Atlanta. They showed Green Bay and the Vikes and to make it worst Fox switched to Redskins and Philly because of Green Bay’s blow out. This is what the Falcons have been reduced too?

Why does any falcons fan want to see us win today!?? What big name free agents are going to wanna come here in the next 2 years??
Our BEST hope at aquiring talent is THRU THE DRAFT!
Damn we just scored a TD….game over. Man the Falcons cant get ANYTHING right this year!
So long to our hopes of getting Dorsey from LSU, or Mcfadden.

This one IS for the defense! The Falcon defense surrendered two field goals (six points). THAT WAS IT! The generous Falcon offense scored a few points (very few) but coughed seven up to Panther defense. NOT GOOD AT ALL! Thank God for Morten Andersen. The ageless one came through again. Algae Crumpledup finally spoke with actions instead of mouth. ABOUT DAMN TIME! Playcalling still stinks. Receivers still have grease on fingers. Hey, a win is a win. These are, after all, the Falcons. Panthers deserved this defeat after DeA++hole Hall blowup in first meeting. Even saw Brooking make a tackle. Imagine that!

Link: Crumpler one catch at the beginning of game thrown by Redmon. One catch to end the game. What is wrong with the quarterback (Joey) ultimately the fault of the coach that does not throw to Crumpler? I am beginning to believe Petrino is over his head. I know Joey is over his head as passes must be thrown down the field to win!!!

By Spare us!

November 11, 2007 4:59 PM | Link to this

Will you please stop with the Joey stuff?? Please, stop! You’re the only person who thinks that he can play. It’s more than evident why he’s on his third team and more than clear why Petrino has said that Leftwich when healthy, is the starter. You win with guys who can get the ball down the field. And by the way Crumpler made the play that won the game. You write like a love sick teenager!

When Atlanta (1-6) hosts San Francisco (2-5) on Sunday, Anderson may have his best chance yet. The 49ers have allowed 26 sacks, third most in the league. “I’m serious,” veteran John Abraham said. “He’s got to step up. They gave him some money, so it’s time to show some improvement. That’s what this league is all about. I’m not saying we’re trying to make him stress about it, but if we’re going to do what we want to do, everybody’s got to contribute.” Anderson is considered a low-end Fantasy DL at this time and decent long-term keeper.

The reference above is the main reason falcon fans should not hope we lose for draft position. When has this sorry franchise ever made good on draft picks? Richie mckay no longer has jerry angelo and tim ruskell to lean on! Those two men were the real genuis behind those great Tampa drafts! Why do you think the Glazer family let rich mckay walk even though he was still under contract. Because they knew just like everyone else in the Tampa organization that it was angelo and ruskell who were really responsible for those drafts. Mckay was just like the big boss in corporate america who takes credit for his underlings hard work. Blank got snookered big time when he hired mckay thinking he could pull off the draft magic that happened in Tampa. Folks this franchise will continue to be trash until we FINALLY hire a personnel guru who can freakin draft good talent.

Swweeet!! These Vick huggers can’t handle the fact that Joey Harrington won the game for us today. FACT is that Joey has played well in most games, where our O-Line gave some protection. Joey completed more deep passes than Byron in the Saints game. That is a FACT. Nobody wants to see Leftwich launching bombs out of the endzone, its about making plays and completing passes.

By Love 'em & Leave 'em

Petrion must be a Vick hugger then because he’s said that Leftwich is the starter when he’s ready. Maybe you should take it up with him.

Well at least the Falcons proved that they can beat a team that has their third string quarterback WHO IS 43 YEARS OLD BY THE WAY with a TD with 16 seconds left on the clock! WORST FRANCHISE OF ALL TIME! KEEP YOUR HEAD UP VICK YOUR BLACK PEOPLE HAVE YOUR BACK!

By Objective Falcons fan

November 11, 2007 5:23 PM | Link to this

Joey Harrington was 19 of 26 today for 192 yards, one touchdown pass, and no interceptions. His touchdown pass to Alge with about 20 seconds left won a road game in the clutch. Joey also led the team on a 70 yard scoring drive at the beginning of the game. He threw the ball accurately all day. He doesn’t call the plays, so it’s hard to blame him for the lack of downfield throws. That’s a very good day for a QB, especially one who does not appear to have the support of a rookie coach whose play-calling is questionable. Dunn looked great. Also, the defense played very well. The Falcons are not the Patriots, but there are signs of hope.

Until Crumpler’s play that was one of the most boooring football games I have ever watched. I went to sleep at one point. Bless his heart, Dunn is a warrior but he is at the point where he should be a change-of-pace back behind a big power back. Hope we can get one in the draft. And yes, Joey is a gutsy guy, but there is a reason that teams like the Panthers are willing to put 8 and 9 guys in the box. The reason? ‘Cause Joey can’t go deep.

If Blank is smart enough to give Petrino full support and stay out of his way for three years he will get the job done.I hope they’ve set down and made as much clear,it could have gone something like this——-Blank.. coach I need to know that you’ll stay and give this every chance to succeed, what do you need from me ?——Petrino..I need three years with full support and NO interference with players in any way. That means no cozying up to them and no comments to the press. If a player comes to you with a complaint you simply tell them all such matters are my authority unless a law has been broken.Just kidding about that last one but you get the point.—-Blank…so we have an agreement, you give this 100% for a minimum of three years and in return I’ll give you all the support in my power while staying completely out of your way…agreed—- Petrino…agreed.

By Objective Also

November 11, 2007 5:42 PM | Link to this

Signs of hope!! What signs of hope? I’m no fan of Petrino but there are plays downfield to be made. In this offense the passes are layered and there is a short, medium and deep routes being run most of the time. 3-6 us worse than mediocre. I don’t think that anybody is bashing Harrington. He’s just not a long term answer. The words that damn him seem to be those of that rookie Head Coach.

By Objective Falcons fan

November 11, 2007 5:57 PM | Link to this

Signs of hope: (1) Two wins in a row, with one coming on the road. (2) The fact that the team can win anything with this patched up o-line. (3) The return of Crumpler and Dunn looking good. (4) The good play of the defense. (5) The team isn’t quitting, even when many fans are.

You also have to give Harrington credit for staying in the pocket and taking a massive hit to deliver the game-winning TD. With all the negativity surrounding him, he’s been pretty tough. It’s got to be hard to go out there and win when you know the head coach doesn’t want you.

By This Gets Old

November 11, 2007 6:10 PM | Link to this

You know what’s bizarre to me? This faith that Petrino “will get the job done” Says who? Where’s the pedigree that says he wins championships?

He was the QB coach in Jax not the coordinator until his third season and he left after that year.

The Big East isn’t the NFL. The SEC ain’t even the NFL and Spurrier can tell you that. Don’t even talk about Jimmy Johnson because that was an era with no salary cap. That 1-15 year was about one player - Troy Aikman. They already had Michael Irvin.

There’s a reason that college guys don’t get hired very often as NFL head coach. In today’s game nobody, NOBODY asks your all-pro CB to return punts.

By Objective Also

November 11, 2007 6:28 PM | Link to this

They’re meaningless season over wins and they’re not supposed to quit. And real fans of the Falcons know that Crump and WD aren’t quitters, not that you said that they were.

The negativity surrounding Harrington has followed him from place to place. Everybody thinks he can’t go deep for a reason. I don’t hate the guy but to me hope implies that the future will be better. I just don’t have that feeling. I don’t want them to lose but them winning these games doesn’t thrill me.

Redman was perfect passing! Can the guy not throw deep (aka Harrington)? Is he unable to line up properly behind center? He sure as Hell appears more mobile than Harrington! I am almost 100 percent sure he can throw dump-off passes, too. Redman can certainly move around in the pocket? Did he get Petrino’s daughter pregnant or something? Why is HE not being given an opportunity? From number two to off the depth chart. ALMOST! Next Farve?

*Madden King: “The black folks have your back” is one of the most rediculous statements I’ve ever heard. Are you going to jail with him? What can you do for Vick? Vick screwed his team, coaches and ownership because by choosing to hang with his homies watching dogs fight rather than focus on his job. He’s toast. About all you can hope for is to see him play in Canada or with some arena league team. Personally, I doubt he’ll ever suit up again. Tragic, but the consequences of bad judgement and poor decision making can be a real beach. *

BOOTS - You must be smoking something. It was just an animal, and most of you probably hit more dogs crossing the street, and drive right on by. Anyway, back to Vick - he has no priors and unlike most of you, that Judge don’t care about any stupid dogs. He will only get probation if that. Now George Bush & Dick Chaney, now that is murder to humans in Iraq, so where is your loyalty - to dumb animals or “real” men protecting this country? Besides, Vick doesn’t want to come back to an ungrateful “loser” city.

Can you image Vick in the arena league. I mean think about it, if he can fill 50,000+ seats in this sorry city, can you imagine how many sell outs in an arena town? I mean, the arena television coverage might even be bigger than the NFL if that happened. Can you imagine how upset the NFL Commissioner would be and his boy Arthur? Oh that would be great!

Boots…. overall, your post was one of the most sensible I’ve read on these Falcon blogs in a long time. As a fan of the Falcons, I, too was very disappointed with Vick when he plead guilty to the charges for which he was accused. It was at that moment that I realized that my Falcons would once again find themselves relagated to the bottom of their division and more or less irrelavent in the NFL. I rooted for Vick because he played for the Falcons, he represented my team. Now I root for Harrington becuse he plays for my team and once he’s gone I’ll root for his replacement because I am a fan of the Falcons and not necessarily the guy wearing the jersey with the Falcon logo.

Anyone out there claiming to be a fan and roots for our team to lose is not a fan of the Falcons in my opinion.

Harrington didn’t lose the game, but he is not the cause celebre of this team. Harrington was serviceable, that’s all. The offense still doesn’t look very good, so to come and talk about Harrington as your first point confirms the crush you have on him.

The team won because of two things:

  1. The defense did their job

and..

  1. The Panthers are not even close to being a good team.

So this win, albeit I should hope it will spur some confidence, is a testament to timely scheduling.

Bird Babe, fair is fair: I have never been a Harrington fan. HOWEVER! JH has displayed heart, desire and fire even if he sorely lacks talent. Petrino is garbage for not treating him like a man! Hey, Leftover is no great shakes either. Redman is probably the best of all Falcon quarterbacks. Petrino does not like Redman. Anyone know why? Oh well. Harrington will never be a top flight field general but he deserved better from Petrino. BP has proven to ALL Falcon watchers that he is NO D++N offensive genius! Still expect him to bolt after this season. JUST A LINGERING HUNCH!. Sorry Joey! You do deserve better. The Falcons were awful before you got here and will continue to suck after you leave.
