Hello, bye week

Thank goodness for the bye.

Can we just stop the season now? I do not know what to say. I really thought Joey was going to lead them to the win late. Not being able to score a touchdown inside the 5 is inexcusable.

Leftwich wasn’t the answer everyone had hoped for. He played fine, but the Falcons need a quarterback and playcalling that will get them into the end zone. Field goals aren’t enough. Hope his injury isn’t too serious. I’d like to see what he can do in a full game.

Roddy had another good game.

I know the players are frustrated and the fans are, too. A lot of work to be done in the bye week.

The Falcons are who we thought they were. For everyone (including players) who said this wasn’t a One-man team…..when you gonna prove that? When?

Petrino’s decision to bench Joey H in favor of Byron L BEFORE the bye week is puzzling.

But even more so is his decision to punt on 4th down, down by six with less than two minutes left.

Very poor coaching decisions…….

Bird Babe you have further proved the point that you have a crush on Harrington. To say that Leftwich was not the answer is laughable. We were actually winning with him in the game. We gained a lot of yards with him in there. We were dominating the clock with him in there. Please take off ya I love Harrington tee shirt and watch the game. What cost us the game was the sorry o line, more drops, penalties, and Keith Brooking tackling Lewis on the Reggie Bush touchdown. How in the world do you tackle your own man. Well when you jump on the pile like he does it is easy. He wasnt even looking . He just jumped in and knocked Lewis down thus letting Reggie Bush score. This season is done.

We have the curse of the Chicago Cubs!!! Injury after injury, especially on the offensive line that was pathetic beforehand. A defense that plays well for three quarters but can never stop anyone when it really matters. They seems to be playing hard, but always seem to be out of position and undisciplined when it counts. This is a result of either poor coaching or players tuning coaches out and not playing disciplined football. Either way, we may need to trade the whole team for future draft picks. Maybe then we can draft some players who might play with intelligence and discipline. Where are the leaders on this team?!?

If we fix the #1 problem then Joey/Byron would be better. If we fix the #1 problem, the defense also would be better, if we fix the #1 problem we would have a better running game. I’d like to make a suggestion for the draft/free agency.

Over pay and get two studs on the O-line. Draft an OT and OG in the first two rounds. Sign a couple of more O lineman then declare all positions are open.

Gosh the O Line stinks.

Thanks to our pathetic Hometown Hero, Keith Brooking, for helping Bush score that late touchdown (by literally blocking our defensive back who had Bush stood up)…

Stick to reading ‘Green-Eggs-and-Ham’ to the kiddies—that is ALL this fraud can do…

Don’t EVER wonder why we suck.

I was wrong about Leftwich - he definitely is an improvement over Harrington. Bird Babe, I believe Harrington already has a girlfriend, sorry to burst your bubble.

Petrino’s decision to punt on 4th and 13 with 1:46 left in the game was the decision of a coward. The Falcons’ offense with either Leftwich or Harrington had been playing better than the Falcons’ defense at that point in the game. To put the trust in the defense to get a 3 and out from New Orleans in that situation, instead of going for it, shows a lack of courage and confidence. Dumb move.

If the Atlanta Falcons were a college football team they would not be in the TOP 50 in the country. Right now I think Duke could beat them. They are a PITIFUL excuse for a professional team

Please give Tony Taylor a look, Petrino. Brooking is a joke. He looked like he was blocking for Reggie. We need to go ahead and faze out all of these senior citizens; Brooking, Dunn, Crump, Gandy, Milloy, Horn, to name a few. Its rebuilding time, or may I say, post vick time. Leftwich looked good until the injury, so I dont understand what the Babe is talking about. We could actually throw the ball, DEEP down the field for once, until the human sack machine came in. Story of the year 2008: Mcfadden reunited with Anderson and Houston in Atlanta.

I know that I am in the minority, and I don’t care, but I AM STILL a huge Michael Vick fan. I am glad that he is not a part of this LOSER FRANCHISE! This organization has been a joke since 1966. Just fold the team. I hope that they lose EVERY GAME the rest of the season. Petrino is an idiot.

You so called Atlanta fans got what you wanted. You wanted Vick out and you see what you have now. Vick did more for this team than any quarter back could have done.He had a winning record with no offensive line and receivers who couldn’t catch a cold and a defense that couldn’t stop a good high school team. So stop the crying and get ready for the empty stadium next year, that’s exactly what you deserve.

Norwood is gonna get more carries next game ? I like Dunn but Norwood is more productive. Why doesn’t he get more of the carries? What is Petrino thinking? How does he see the stats? Why does the highest paid fullback in the NFL not get the ball? The game plan is not working in the first fewn games.

Will someone please tell me who Brooking was suiting up for today—us or the saints. I couldn’t tell on the Bush touchdown run when he literally tackled Saunders instead of Bush!!!!! GET BROOKING OUT OF THE MIDDLE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again we get to suffer through Harrington holding the ball TOO LONG!!How can Byron Leftwich, even with the slow windup, manage to by enough time to throw the ball downfield ACCURATELY, while the supposedly MORE MOBILE Harrington give up STATS to the opposing teams sack totals every week. This season for me is over. I refuse to suffer through such ineptitude anymore this year. I’ve been a falcon fan from 66 and have seen the franchise’s peaks and many valleys but not anymore THIS YEAR. SEE YOU GUYS NEXT YEAR!!!!

sckot,

Good points. Mughelli is being paid a lot of money to do nothing. Norwood is obviously better in this offense than Dunn. Is Petrino REALLY going to implement this crap during the bye week and act like he wasn’t aware of this stuff before? You win in the NFL by making adjustments, not by running the same damn garbage ad nauseum. If Petrino is really going to bail on the Falcons after one season, it makes sense. He’s doing precious little to try to help the Falcons win football games. Maybe he can go to Nebraska.

Those of us who supported Vick until the end need to remember one thing: The original Vick Haters, who wanted anyone but Vick to start for the Falcons, are not the same as those who turned on him after the empty scandals he kept getting into, who are different from the ones who turned on him when he screwed the franchise over dog-fighting. So only a few “got what they asked for,” and those guys are, contrary to popular belief, not ALL white racists, plenty of them were just goofy stat worshippers.

I hate to say that I properly predicted that Leftwich would be on crutches before the 1st game was over. That said, I am not a Leftwich basher. The team was definitely better with Leftwich at QB. But, Jax didn’t let him go because of his lack of talent. They let him go because he can’t stay healthy. The hit that took him out was ugly, but that seems to happen with him. I hope he comes back after the bye-week, healthy, and we can see what he can do in a complete game. With that o-line in front of him, that is doubtful. Harrington did a good job in relief, but he can’t throw the deep ball and the other teams know it. He’s not the answer; he’s the question.

Congratulations Bird Babe, you got YOUR QB back! Wonder what Redman did to get so far off the Petrino radar? Does he have plague? Joey “Another Sack” Harrington still S++T. Just regurgitated S++T! DeA++hole “No Tackle” Hall could not cover a one-legged woman in a wheelchair. What an overrated piece of talentless trash! Most girls I know tackle better than this quitter. Leftover at least got Falcons into end zone. How serious is injury? Check that, does not matter, no one gaves a damn! Only two Falcons worthy of oxygen they breathe. Andersen and Norwood true professionals with pride and dignity. Other Falcons are gutless, heartless, ball-less and clueless quitters who mailed another one in! Could not compete with major college team. Higher classification high school team would give them trouble! True parasites. All worthless trash. To Hell with all but two!

We have a top 10 pick who is doing absolutely nothing. Wr’s who still drop the ball. A qb who holds onto the ball too long. An o line that cant open up holes or pass block. A coach who wants to punt when we needed a score.. It is a done season. I honestly dont see how we beat Houston or even won 15 games the past two seasons. We dont have a lot of talent and we have over the hill talent. Keith Jump on the Pile Brookings is a joke. He tackled his own teammate which resulted in a touchdown. Bird Babe are you Harrington’s wife? . Week after Week you come on here defending this joke of a qb like he is a future hall of famer. Get off his lap. I will never forget Blank during that pre season game after Vick plead guilty. He was all in the booth clapping and smilling and giving the thumbs up like this team was going to be good without Vick. Well sir you were so wrong that its funny. The fat lady is singing so much she has a double disc coming out.

I can’t remember ever being this frustrated!! Every week it’s a new way to lose a close one. Here’s the game in a nutshell: Byron is fine but so was Joey. Petrino only changed QB’s b/c he couldn’t change the whole team. This line is horrendous & another went down today. Can Jeff VanNote suit up? Joe Horn is done. Keith Brooking is done. Lawyer Malloy is done. Fine leaaders all but DONE. I actually saw Jimmy Williams playing & not just on special teams & he looked OK! Roddy is a player. John Abraham needs help from the other side of the line, anybody there? Wish Kearney still was. It’s pathetic that Petrino had so little confidence in his own offense that he punted when he knew darn well the defense couldn’t stop a fly…And where is Mr. Barlow/Igor who put this sad sack team together????? I never see or hear from him this season. Gee, wonder why? Thank God their off next week so we don’t have to suffer through another gut wrenching loss. Alge is done as well, his knee problems will not get any better. Sorry Crump.

Brooking is still Brooking…the secondary is still the secondary…what’s all the surprise about the season’s losing spiral?? What?? Oh, you thought the O-line was better last year? It wasn’t. You thought this team was the #1 rushing team in the league? It wasn’t. You thought in a real close game, this team would find a way to squeak it out..is that it? You thought they had heart? People…these are your Atlanta Falcons….the mask is off.

So the Falcons lose again, and no matter how much they falter no one wants to give Michael Vick credit for making plays behind a mediocore Offensive Line. This was a close game today, and what the AJC and ALL the “Vick-haters” know, but don’t want to admit…MICHAEL VICK “RUNNING TOO MUCH” KEPT US IN THE GAME AND ACTUALLY MADE THE FALCONS BETTER!!! HIS RUNNING WAS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING SACKED ON 3RD AND LONG AND GETTING A 1ST DOWN!

Bobby Petrino is working with Jim Mora’s players. Jim Mora went to the NFC Championship game with Dan Reeve’s players. Michael Vick thrived under Dan Reeves, but he regressed under Jim Mora.

Until Bobby Petrino can get his type of players in place (i.e. bigger O-Line) then we will continue to go “3 and out” and lose games.

MV7 would have been the difference between a Win and a Loss today. But somehow the AJC thinks Michael Vick set the franchise back…MAYBE, JUST MAYBE it was hiring Jim Mora!!!

Third, Thanks Brooking for allowing Bush to score, you get the game wedgie. And last but not least Coach Bobby Petrino for punting with 1:46 left in the game and thinking your defense was going to get a 3 and out you get the game Wet Willie IN BOTH EARS! You idiot.

Leftwich is clearly superior to Harrington. He gets the ball down the field while Harrington looks short first.

Would someone tell me what Brooking doing out there today? He got bowled over for one TD and tackled his own man on the winning TD.

But the absolutely, unbelievably biggest question of the day has to be WHAT LB CAN BE EXPECTED TO COVER A WR 40 YARDS DOWN THE FIELD???

Dirtybird. I rarely respond to bloggers but I took great exception to your post. I covered sports for over 30 years and watched sports all my life. I KNOW when athletes tank it. THE FALCONS TANKED IT TODAY! They are pros (supposidly) who get paid big bucks to PERFORM! Have they performed? HELL NO! So you may hold their hands and kiss their A+++S when they lay down. I SURE AS HELL WILL NOT! Did not in the 1960s. WILL NOT IN THE 2000S! I love the Falcons but hate all but two of the players wearing Falcon uniforms. Live with it!

Where is David Duke and the Harrington fan club? There is nothing wrong with the Falcons - they are just missing their inspirational leader, and I think we know who that is. Petrino should be released for continually running Dunn up middle. Opponents have figured this one out! Norwood outside - big yards. Dunn outside - little or no yards. New guy fumbled. First off, stop with the MV7 comments….he’s gone, and never coming back to the NFL…. Some positives: Leftwich looked good, Roddy White finally is stepping up, and the defense once again played decent enough to win…. Negatives: we saw the injury cart more than the end-zone, our o-line is a joke, and Warrick Dunn cost us the game by dropping a pass and then batting the ball costing us another 5 yards…..AND HOW HARD IS IT TO GET & MEN ON THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE??? Prediction: Petrino bows out after this year…let’s pray we can get Bill Cowher…..

AGAIN DUNN lets the team down! and his time SHOULD be OVER!!!

Norwood gets 6 touches for 38, Dunn 13 for 28 and he drops the screen pass to kill the last drive, and then pulls some crap penalty too.

What evidence does Coach need to get Norwood more action and Dunn less?

Could not ask for much better QB play than we got today from Byron and Joey, too bad Coach gives it to Dunn 27% of the time.

To futher the point about Dunn take away to one 12 yard carry he had through a huge hole and he was 16 yards on 12 carries, pathetic!

The falcons continue to build on their legacy as the worst pro sports franchise in the history of american sports. 40 plus years and counting with zero leadership at the top. This team has no pride whatsoever. The players have no heart and are a bunch of quitters. Bad personal moves. Bad coaching. Bad team. As a fan of more than 30 years I am officially done watching this wreck. I can’t take it anymore. I hope to god that this moribound franchise will be moved to another city and then maybe sometime in the future we could get an expansion team and start over. I had dreams when Arthur Blank bought the team that he had the brains to finally turn things around but I was wrong. Yes he will spend money but he is the classic meddling moron owner that can’t stay out of the way. His idiotic decision to continue to give employment to one of the worst personnel people in the league will continue to harm this franchise for years to come. Over and out!

To sanderusuck, are you kidding? Sanders had Bush stood up, and Brooking came flying over and actually pulled Sanders down as if Sanders was the ball carrier, it was the funniest thing I had saw in my life. Brooking has done that for years, come into plays late and knock tacklers off. And if you look at the rushing TD that New ORleans scored, Brooking actually took 2 other Falcons out of the play. Thanks Brook. I dont want to knock the guy, but the guy is a little overrated. He definitely shouldnt be playing MLB, he cant shed blockers and not really good at filling holes either. Offensively, the team looked better, Leftwich does have the ability to throw the ball deep, something Harrington cant or wont do. Harrington does his best and I think he has shown he is a great team guy, but will never be more than adequate. He cant go out and win a game for you, you more or less ask him not to lose the game for you.

Apparently Leftwich has a high ankle sprain which will keep him out 2-4 weeks, although based on his history it wouldn’t surprise me if he was out for most of the rest of the season. It’s too bad, because even though he was playing against a mediocre defense the offense was definitely performing better with Leftwich under center. Like Harrington, he was being pressured a lot and threw some passes inaccurately as a result, but he was getting the ball out of his hands much quicker than Harrington.

Bring back Vick in ‘09. Go easy on him, U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson.

BYE WEEK ANALYSIS: What do we know? The problem is NOT Vick. Vick is not on the field, so he is NOT responsible for the outcome of the game(s). The performers on the field are responsible. Is it Petrino? No, Bobby is working within the framework of the GM. Ahhh! We can now turn our attention to next season. Anybody want to entertain the thought of Mike going to the Chicago Bears?

The revisionist history on this blog is astounding, especially among the MV7 lovers. Tell us, JR when did the Falcons ever “blame” Vick for any of their failures? And de you are a supreme idiot…yup, the Falcons made Vick look bad and they never had his back, what a joke. The reality is that the franchise (Blank, McKay, Billy White Shoes, the PR department, etc.) bent over backwards to cover up Vick’s many messes. Go ask anybody who works for the Falcons, hell even the African American ones.

You freakin cretins are all crying at this very moment over the poor performance of the Falcons and demanding improvement while at the same time you demand that they let Vick come back and play when he is out of the pokey in 2-3-4 years.

So, retards, which way do you want it? Do you want the Falcons to (a) run in place and suck while waiting for Vick, or do you want them to (b) move on, improve, and be real team without your “Superman”?

Remember, if you choose (a)then you have to shut the hell with all the griping about how bad they are now, because you can’t have it both ways you bunch of dumb azzes.

Get over it Vick haters. #7 is missed by many. Because the convict as many of you call him is no longer the QB we suck. Not only that, no one in the world cares to look at this team (the lowest viewing on MNF). Vick will do his time and he will come back with the support of a NFL owner, team, and community that will respect and support his time served and rehabilitation. He will bring that team the excitement and ability that many respected and many were resentful of weekly. The Falcon will still be doing what they do, LOSING!

I don’t, for the the life of me, understand the Vick worship that is still encountered on these boards. The idea that we can’t win without Vick is ludicrous. We rarely won with him. In his 6 years with the team we had 2 winning seasons and won more than 9 games only once. He accounted for almost as many turnovers (79) as TDs (92). His career QB rating of 75.7 is a joke and his 52.1 yds per game rushing avg, while great for a QB, really isn’t a lot of offense.

When you think about it, this misplaced adoration is based on a handful of very electrifying plays and certainly not the body of work. Please get over it folks, you’re just making yourselves look stupid.

Hey, Unbiased_Blogger, I don’t know what the hell you are talking about or to what group of “you people” you are referring.

I’m talking about and referring to a convicted felon who knowingly ran an illegal operation that particpated in illegal gambling. I’m talking about a self-absorbed jerk-off who lied to his bosses, lied his teammates, lied to you and me, and then managed to get himself suspended when he is needed most. If Blank wants that caliber of scum on his team then he is obviously pandering to butt wipes like you.

Eddie from Acworth,

Andre Woodson is actually mixed. One of his parents is black and the other white. So that means nothing, but then again white people said during the slavery that ONE DROP OF BLACK BLOOD IS TOO MUCH. You can say whatever, but Vick covered up alot of our weaknesses. I think you people are seeing that he was the reason we were 8-8 or 7-9. These close games usually favored us.

God, some of you are the most stupid people ever. Wake up you stupid, STUPID IDIOTS. The Falcons made Mike Vick the feature player they did not want to get rid of him, that is why they traded Schaub. They did not get rid of him, HE SCREWED IT UP HIMSELF. Do some of you even read the news, watch Sports Center, talk to people at the store? He is guilty of federal felony charges. The NFL suspended him. He can not play. He will not be able to play when he is in jail. He will probably continue to be suspended when he is out of jail. If he was not and IDIOT, he would be playing with the Falcons. Please stop with the stupid Mike Vick comments. He is a non-factor in the NFL and will be that way for 2-3 more years.

I guess Petrino has to try anything to save his job and juggling QB’s is one of them. I think Harrington showed that he is the best quarterback that the Falcons have. His passes are accurate and he made some fine plays today. The loss against the Saints was a team effort. Having a center who can’t tell when the quarterback is under him and with Dunn throwing his tantrum drives were killed. The receivers continue to drop passes and the line can’t pass block. No it is not Harrington’s fault. Everybody get in line!!!

Is someone here still hoping Mike Vick will come back? Give me an everlovin M.F.’en break. He had one , maybe two good seasons. The rest of the time I was hoping that they would trade him while someone still felt highly of him and we could get some money and top draft choices in return. I base this on what went on during the last two seasons. When he started growing those little pig tails on his cornrows I personally felt he was doing drugs. Now we know he was. Marijuana saps your performance. That explains why he would implode at the end of games, his strength was gone. Does anyone remember the game last year that we were down by 7 points and needed a score with 1:00 left; we had a 4th and three when he non-chalantly unstrapped his helmet and started walking off the field. The sideline had to yell at him to get back in there. To be an athlete at the professional level, you have to be drug free and almost a health freak. I’m surprised he lasted as long as he did. Chemicals and Sports don’t go together. What a loser. My point here is I could see it, why couldn’t management see it and do something about it. I felt like throwing something at the T.V. to get someones attention. What a bunch of goobers. Oh, and I guess it wasn’t just his brother now was it? On to the current regime. We are in the hotbed of football and can’t field a club. We need an offensive line, build the backfield around #32, The defense sucks wind. And on top of that they hire Bobby Petrino. Got rid of Schaub. On and on and on and on. Bring back the Clampetts

runc, who exactly “resented” Vick on a weekly basis? I’m sure a very small minority of fans were resentful of Vick for racist reasons, but the vast majority of Falcons fans of all colors appreciated his athletic ability and enjoyed the fact that he gave our team at least a fighting chance to win almost every week. So cut the crap where you suggest that all white fans out there are now dancing in the streets because our black quarterback got what he deserved. That just isn’t the case. On the other hand, judging by the venom Brooking takes on this blog and others (some of it very well deserved) I could quite easily argue that “you” won’t be happy until our white middle linebacker is replaced by a more appropriately pigmented defender. And you won’t be completely happy with the Falcons until they play in an all-black league, owned by a black owner, have a black GM, black coaching staff and all black players, and play their games on BET.

And I agree . Kicking the ball with 1:23 left in the game? That was so stupid I fell over laughing ‘cause I didn’t know what else to do. Petrino is basically dumber than dirt. Do you rememeber the game last week in the first half. They had a critical 3rd down play and needed a first down in enemy territory. The braintrust on the sidelines actually called a timeout, thought about it for two minutes, then came back in and ran Dunn straight up the middle for a two yard loss. God, my dead mother could have called a better play than that. Geeesh I can’t take it anymore. BANG, BANG, BANG. Just shot myself in the toes.

Did anybody else today thing Petrino should have challenged the call that Roddy White was out of bounds on the long pass/run down the sidelines? I watched it 4 or 5 times on TiVo and it wasn’t at all clear that he was out of bounds. White motioned to the bench to challenge the call. Of course, the 9th string announcing crew covering the game on Fox didn’t say anything. I knew we were doomed to a field goal when the official called White out of bounds at the 8…

HELLO faithful Falcon fans. 6 years ago, Arthur Blank purchased the Falcons and after that came MV7. Shortly after MV7, the lights were turned on in the city of Atlanta. He won one of the biggest game in franchise history in Green Bay. Shortly after that, Arthur rewarded him with $130 million contract for which MV7 did not ask for. After that, he(MV7) rewarded the team and the city with MNF & SNF games. We also got a Thanksgivings game and many sellouts. There are many fans that hate him because he played the game with a lot of heart! Yet, it was said that he (MV7) was NOT the team. A few questions, “what would you do if someone called you out of your name after a loss (the finger incident)”, “why did everybody make a big deal out of the water bottle” and “why would Arthur Blank allow the animal rights groups to operate his football team by dictating to him to take MV7 off of the team over an issue like this”? The whole ordeal is not as bad as it seems. It looks bad on Arthur Blank’s behalf for turning his back on MV7 after all that he has done for him. He treated him like a slave….used him and discarded him when he got into a little trouble. Everybody is not perfect. Mr. Blank lied to the ticket holders by saying that the price of tickets would not increase, but they did. Is that not lying? So in conclusion, it will be interesting next year to see how many dogs buy tickets, beer and tee shirts at the dome!

I really don’t think they make the best QB’s. Wide receivers yes. It’s not a brain thing either it’s about skill and speed . They’re the strongest and the toughest and the fastest. They need to get the ball and run with it. Mike Vick should have been a wide receiver.

1) Can we leave MV out of it. Whether the Falcons would be better or not is a moot point. MV is not here because MV broke the law. MV will not be back in the NFL for a minimum of this season and next and probably longer. Doesn’t matter if you love him or hate him…he’s gone.

2) Can we drop the Petrino bashing. He isn’t going anywhere! AB knows he doesn’t have the talent. Even Petrino knew before MV was gone that it would be a long year. If anything Petrino will leave before he gets fired!

3) I never hear the #1 and #2 picks name during the broadcast. I’m just hoping they’re learning and hit the weight room and get a little bigger by next year.

4) Why keep bashing Harrington and Leftwich. They are both pretty decent QB’s but as someone said Peyton Manning wouldn’t do much with that line.

5) Yes we can write off this year but hey for those that still go cheer for those that aren’t giving up…Abraham, Coleman, Norwood, Boley and a few others.

6) Alas I thinking Brooking is done. Show some class and retire after the season…before you get cut.

7) Stop the Dunn bashing. Remember he’s got no line. Having said that Norwood should be the starter. Maybe Petrino’s just smart and saving him until they get some widebodies that can block next year.

8) If you’re so fed up then you can give me your tickets. My 8 yr old would love to go and he won’t care if they lose.

Yea I don’t expect much this season. They’ll win 1 or 2 more but I’ll still watch and hope. Hope most of you feel the same.

Same ole..same ole Falcons. This years team is another version of the 84,85, 87, 88, and 89 Falcons. All we are missing are the old red helmets.

Dont get me wrong, we have a little bit of talent. We have Norwood, Roddy, D-Hall, Boley, Abraham, Rod Coleman, and Algernon. A matter of fact Joey has played OK this year. He is not going to carry the team, but he plays well enough be competive. Our biggest issue is the O-Line. Our seconday sucks too. I say give Patrino at least 3 years before we start calling for his head. Give the guy time to get his own players and lets see what he can do. Personally…I believe in him. So here we are. 1-5. possibly 4-2 if field goals were converted to touch downs, we didn’t punt down 4 with two mins to go on the 50, and we had a line that could block better than North Cobb. No excuses. It is what it is and these are OUR Falcons. Not the white fans, black fans, or the vick fan Falcons. These are OUR Falcons. Lets look at the good in this team. D-line-Good. Linebackers-good (age is concern though no names though) DB’s- Average( good play in the first by Jimmy Williams) QB-No answer on this roster. RB- Dunn is done. Give Norwood the majority and let him loose. OL-Abomination. WR,TE- White can be a star, Crumpler doesn’t fit in though. But they can still get it done. Great young talent. We need the GM to do his job better. 50/50 doesn’t cut it in the NFL. Maybe Schuerholtz can give him some pointers. But guys, stop the hate. We are all fans. Lets go Falcons. And for those who havn’t noticed, there maybe be some post season action across the way in Phillips Arena next spring. Look out for those Hawks. The Hawks GM may have finally got it. Lets go Atlanta fans, you are better than this. You guys sound worse that Philly fans. and I’m Gone.

Keith Brooking(s) should get a few $$ from New Orleans for his remarkable play of pulling off the only Falcon defender keeping Reggie Bush out of the end zone. What a mess. He overpursues because he’s always out of position (remember his remarkable defensive stop..er..wipe out last week?) and along with Warwick Done hurt the team more than any opposing player. Warwick to the left for —ohh!—- minus 3 yards. Warwick up the middle—-ohh! he’s taken down by a loose mouthpiece for minus 5 yards. This team is not that bad, the coach is extremely good, he just needs to bite the bullet and make Warwick 2 string instead of this STUPID trade off that keeps one of our best players off the field. If we’re going to lose, I’d rather do it with a better MLB and running back learning the position than seeing these old farts embarrass themselves and kill the team. KB(s) and WD STINK!

Vick is not coming back. Get over it people. Furthermore those who thought that Leftwich did better than Joey, well you’re kidding yourselves they did just about the same. Yeah Leftwich got a touchdown. But how many? 1! So what Joey’s done that in other games. Haven’t anyone noticed? There have been other games where the falcons got only 1 touchdown. So getting 1 touchdown doesn’t prove anything. What they need to do is score more than 1 touchdown. I think some of that falls on the playcalling. This bye week the coaches need to work on some plays that will get the falcons in the endzone and not lose yards. Plus the falcons need to play the second half. Just about every game this year, last year too for that matter, the falcons look good the first half but the second half they look terrible. This goes for everyone, the players and coaches. The players seem to give up, and the coaches seem to get too conservative with their play calling.

On December 3, 2007, I am going to see if the Falcons can beat the Saints in a rematch at the Dome. They probably will not win and most people will stay home. All the Mike Vick fans can see him walk into prison that day. Mike, I hope that the number of sexual assaults in US prisons is exaggerated.

The Falcons record to date serveS them right. Although Vick was totally wrong for his actions it did not require the full wrath of the entire U.S. legal system. Mr.Blanks decision to recover Mr.Vicks signing bonus was and is vindictive. Two wrongs don’t make a right. After all the guy did play for three years. Mr.Blank, God Don’t Like Ugly!

I tell myself every week that I’m not going to waste another Sunday watching this team…but I get sucked in every week w/ a little gleam of hope…well ALL HOPE IS LOST…I’m reminded of a line from the movie “The Color Purple”…UNTIL THE FALCONS DO RIGHT BY MIKE VICK…EVERYTHING THEY EVEN THINK ABOUT (I.E. WINNING) IS GONNA CRUMBLE!!! I wonder if Vick is watching this mess week after week w/ a big azz smile on his face…I would if I were him…Karma is a B*tch!

Hey Nastradamus, do you REALLY thin that Blank is going after MV for the $$$? If so you are truly an idiot.

Any monies that the Falcons can recover go to the salary cap. Would you rather the team just gave away all of MV’s cap charge for NO performance? Or would you rather recover that money to rebuild the team.

As the saying goes, “It’s not personal, It’s just business”

Hey Old Man Falcon.

You say the Falcons can win without Michael Vick? Just look at the stats. 1-6. Is that what you call winning?

I am enjoying every minute of watching these loser’s loose every game. Go Arthur Blank. You made a wonderful decision. I hope the Falcons never win another game. Now enjoy your losses and an empty stadium.

So during the bye week, our strategy is “sandbagging” in preparation for next season. Wow! Winning is no longer important.

I’m outta here—tired of these racist overtones and dogma. What many Vick supporters are saying is that Mike is absolutely wrong for his actions (i.e., dogfighting and lies). Just as human beings wants to survive, so do dogs. I don’t think people are trying to rationalize Vick’s mistakes—I know I’m not. It is human nature that we want to see people take responsibility for their actions (as Michael eventually did), learn the lessons needed to not repeat his or her mistakes, and RETURN as a productive member of society. Vick supporters just want to extend a helping hand and show some love. Discipling someone w/o LOVE is why many people are unable to abstain from a life of crime and evil in general. People continue to measure people by what the see externally—color, and NEVER attempt to find out what’s going on inside a troubled human being.

Until Byron went down, I saw a team that was beginning to play with more confidence. Props to Roddy White for stepping up. This offense was moving the ball a bit and putting up some points. It may not have been a lot in the beginning but there was progress.

So of course once Byron goes down Joey promptly does nothing to lead this team when they had a chance. Face it, Petrino has no confidence in him but depending on the severity of this ankle injury to Byron he may not have a choice but to play him.

That being said, Petrino can use this bye week to begin playing for next year, and that has to start with phasing out some of these veterans such as Dunn and Crumpler. They were byproducts of Mora’s system and will not succeed in Petrino’s offense.

I know a lot of people may not agree, but I think they need to begin building their offense with Byron as their QB. Why draft a QB now when this team doesn’t have the o-line to protect him? Obviously they like having Leftwich lead their offense. Hopefully the ankle injury isn’t too bad and we’ll be able to see him play in the second half.

This season may be lost, but the rest of the season can be set towards building some confidence and some wins for the future.

QBs who did most damage to Falcons: 1-Dog-murdering convick scum. Obvious choice. Name need not be mentioned. Cursed. 2-Jeff George. Untalented crybaby. Known for sideline shouting matches. With own coach! 3-Chris(sy) Miller. True sissy. Falcon fans CHEERED when he was injured. Gave fans pre-Vick bird finger salute. My, my, my, Falcon fans have TRULY been blessed! Vick did himself in. Also as reported in the news lately, banks are suing him, his house is on the market. What a shame and a loss for falcon fans. He was too immature if not too dumb to be paid millions without supervision. The falcons should not have ignored the other incidents (pot at the airport, crew stealing rolex, herpes, blunt photo on interet, flipping off fans, etc…) The falcon org should have watched and checked on him. Quit saying we wanted Vick out. I was a huge Vick fan. He was so exciting and fun to watch. But it makes me sick that I was cheering for him while he was killing dogs. A guy who can do that to dogs needs to pay the price in prison. Lets move on to today. Petrino is not a coach for the NFL. We need an experienced NFL coach now.

I’ve being going to the Falcons games for 17 years, so this losing is nothing new. I can’t put into words the excitement I got from watching Michael Vick play. I don’t believe the Falcons will have the same following without Vick. I believe in REDEMPTION and I say to the people on this blog that is against Vick, please repent to GOD for this judgement. This man is entitled to play football in the future. In the name of JESUS, let him play. I rebuke the devil from the bloggers who’s hearts aren’t right. You know what I mean.

You people kill me. Vick is not even playing yet is still being blamed. Vick is not the gm of this sorry team. He did not sign the sorry free agent bust we pick up every year. He doesn’t draft the first round bust we get every year. The guy has not taken one snap this whole season yet people are still blaming him. Get out of here with that crap. How about putting some blame on the guys who are actually playing and the gm who put this trash together. If you don’t think people wanted Vick out of Atlanta before the dog fighting situation then I have some beach property in Dakota i want to sell you idiots. Take ya head out of ya asses. Even when this team was winning people wanted him benched or traded. They wanted a pocket qb who did not run all the time. They wanted a traditional drop back passer who could see over the line. No matter what he did it was not good enough for some of these clowns. He is not here so deal with it. This team is a good 4 years away from being competitve. We have young talent that dont produce. Veterans who dont produce. This team is sorry from top to bottom. Keith I tackle my own man Brooking needs to retire. People who hate Vick are some funny people. People who defend him are not saying what he did wasn’t wrong. . What they are saying is how can you defend a guy like Harrington who has done absolutely nothing yet blame everything on Vick. He broke the law so yea he has to take his punishment but some people took this over board. Vick would have been better off unloading rounds at a school or something they way people reacted about some dogs. Harrington doesn’t produce yet people want him to keep starting. Vick did produce but people wanted his back up in. What free agent wants to come here with these silly a* fans. And if you don’t believe people did not want him benched or traded before this dog fighting situation. Check out some archives and use google. 7-9 doesnt look so bad now. This team will be lucky to win 4 games.

Mark Chmura. Oh, I forgot he went to trail and was acquitted on rape. Not innocent though. Oh, don’t forget about Bill Maas felony drug & weapon charges. Let me see, one more. Oh, David Kircus charged with assault. Crime doesn’t have a color dummy. You’re the one ignorant. Check yourself. You need to pray.

MV7 is gone…. But now you know - that a real winner will carry the team on his back - they will do what is necessary to win.

All heroes have flaws. Jordan had well known gambling problem…but they didn’t run him out of the league for it. He carried the Bulls on his back, and kept winning because that was his job. Visk carried this team on his back, filled the stands, broke his ankle, and ran each and every week for his life…because we have an awful O-line. All last season - all these BLOGGERS kept saying that he wasn’t a “true” quarterback - because he didn’t stay in the pocket. Welllllllll, now you have one. Harrington ends up on his a** more often than completing passes. He can’t throw the bomb. BUT HE STAYS IN THE POCKET.

The receivers still can’t catch and what is up with all the injuries? Algie?????? (worthless)

Mike Vick covered up a bunch of FLAWS that are being exposed every week.

Be careful what you pray for !

For all you people saying that Bird Babe is in love with Harrington just because she preferred him over Leftwich, you are dead wrong.

Look at it this way. Leftwich MIGHT be a better QB. The problem with Leftwich is, he gets hurt every time someone sneezes on him. Sure, he was a gamer for Marshall way back when, but now he is a total immobile QB with a body that is way too fragile. This has been his problem all his career, and it’s why Jacksonville got rid of him for ZILCH in return.

You simply cannot plan your team aroudn a QB who has missed almost 50% of the games his team has played over the last two years with injuries.

The rest of the year needs to be spent evaluating talent for the future. Start giving Norwood 20 carries a game to see if he can be the feature back. Rotate Joey and Byron and see if either QB plays well enough to save you a wasted pick in the draft. Anyone who is on the last year of their conttract that you do not plan on bringing back should be riding the pines if there are younger players behind them in the rotation.

As for the draft .. the NFL game is won and lost in the trenches. Sure, other positions certainly make a difference, but you will NEVER see a team win the Super Bowl without decent lines at the very least. It just doesn’t happen, so the Falcons need to spend their first couple of picks on the best OLine people in the draft. And if there isn’t one worthy of where they are picking, trade down and pick up a pick or two and get the lineman you want, plus a player or two extra. It’s not like we are one or two players away, and we are not getting any younger.

As for Petrino, I am giving him three years. It’s much harder for an offensive minded coach to come in and turn a bad team around quickly than it is a defensive coach. Since we went with an offensive coach, we need to give him time.

As for all those who still love Vick, just remember, he started this downslide by getting Dan Reeves fired. Please remember that Dan Reeves took us to the Super Bowl without Michael Vick, and with a team that arguably had less talent overall than we have now. Vick fans can whine and moan about how bad this team is, but decisions made to appease Vick, both in salary and personnel (Price and Reeves) have absolutely killed this team.

An Open Letter to Mr. Blank

Mr. Blank, please save your money and restructure the entire organization from the top to the field level personel. Create a position for Mr. McKay where his only responsibility will be is to handle the contracts for the organization and not player evaluation and selection. Mr. McKay IS NOT an evaluator of talent and never has been. The position of GM is an inherited position earned with his father’s laurels. He did not build Tampa Bay and as a matter of fact that team and organization regressed while he was GM. His father and Tony Bungy built that organization. His father from the beginning and Mr. Dungy later. They are just now in the recovery which will actually take another year under Mr. Gruden’s tutelage. It is time to swallow your pride and rehire, yes, rehire Dan Reaves as the GM. He’s been in this game for over 50 years as a player, coach etc.. He knows how to evaluate talent. A player’s personal life is their responsibility and a coach can only do so much for adults. Mr. Petrino was a fine and successful college coach. He now sees the professional aspects of the game are entirely different than the college game. Remember Mr. Nick Saban. He found this out, an after one season went back to where he’s comfortable. Also remember Mr. Steve Spurrier. A college head coach who has no experience in professional organizations should spend two years on the sidelines of a coach for mentoring. There will be a few who are successful, like any business, but the emotions and attitudes of a professional player are different than those when they were in college. A professional team is made of 50 players who were all stars on their respective college teams. Now they have the money and responsibilities of a an adult to take care of personally, but in some cases not the maturity to handle the leeches that follow money. Sure they have agents and such but for the most part these advisors and people only want a piece of the financial pie. Do yourself and all the faithful fans and team supporters a favor and think about these changes to save your organization. Thank you for purchasing the team and keeping it in Atlanta, but truly hire a professional football person who’s goal will be Superbowl championships not just making playoffs. Look at New England, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, and the former Dallas Teams, these are/were professionally run organizations from the top to the sideline. I know we can’t return to the Vince Lombardi days but the team needs to have a professional sideline during the games. Hanger ons shouldn’t be allowed on the sideline. Get rid of the Cheerleaders. Sure they do community service but they are all just show. Re-invent Professionalism for the game. Also, as owner, although you have the right, stay off the field during the game. The ONLY persons interacting with the players should be the coaching staff and medical personnel. Trainers should not make comments to players about responsibilities for game preparations or duties. This is the coaches responsibility. This hopefully is something to think about for the rest of the season and I welcome any reaction and/or criticism.

You people make me sick with all the idiot comments. Vick is a good player no matter what legal troubles he is going through …that will never be taken away from him. So what he fought stupid dogs, get over it. Yes, I did say stupid dogs, animals, whatever you want to call them. If they are not human then I don’t value them as a human. If you want to holler about what he did, you same simple-minded ignorant people need to go around the country hollering about other cases. I could never see the same value in an animal to a human. After all this hatred, Vick will still come out on top, becuse of all his HATERS. I say that because he is going to make money based off of you hypocrites. They assume so many people hate him, and some team will pick him up and will want to be the one to prove to people that Vick still have it after doing time.

On a positive note, Go Falcons!!! LOL

we all realize that without vick the team has to be totally rebuilt. so losing is OK. i expect any player who has been in the league for 4-5 years and/or has value to be gone. go youth movement. start over, people here are use to it. a 2-14 season will let us see if petrino is committed or not. if he wants out, he has a great excuse with vick’s situation and there will be plenty of plum college opps out there. if he stays, then we should commit to him for 3-5 years and try to build something from the ground up. free agents are for plugging in here and there to a solid structure, you can’t build a winner with free agents alone. if mckay can’t draft, well blank needs to pull the trigger on him and get a real personnel guy here. to me, staying in @.500 all the time is boring, and we aren’t going much above that with this team without vick…

I’m am not and never will be a fair-weather fan. This team WILL turn things around. It was a (first grader) no brainer to cover Bush on the touchdown play; he was the only player they were using in that drive and as we all saw…WAS WIDE OPEN…the defensive coordinator should catch the first thing smoking back to SF!! The losses the Saints suffered were due in large part to fustrating their QB…blitz, blitz, blitz…I don’t think the d/coordinator knows the meaning of the word. The offensive play calling is bad enough…the defensive play calling is awful. Please take Brooking out of the middle; he’s slow, slower, slowest…could have knocked Bush silly on the winning touchdown play; instead he tackled his own player!! Well, enough of this…Rich McKay, wake up and stop reading your press clipings…they’re bogus. Give the coach some (real) players and even I can guarantee a winning season. Nuff said; my tears are shorting out the keyboard…

JeanE, while it may be easy for you to say “Vick is Gone, MOVE ON”, it’s just not going to happen. Mike Vick is going to be mentioned in this press after every other loss that’s coming for the Falcons. It amazes me how the one week that Harrington “supposedly” had a good game he was glamorized as the saviour coming to the rescue. It’s apparent he does not have the ability everyone hoped he would. So constantly calling Vick the Team Killer is an excellent scapegoat. Now today we read that Leftwich wasn’t the answer everyone hoped for even though he was moving the ball and threw for a TD. And you say that it’s not a racist thing? Well if it’s not it smells like racism! I hope the falcons lose every other game this season. I was actually rooting for N.O. I’m loving this wonderful melting pot of a city we live in. Everyone is judged so fairly here in the Old South.

“I don’t know what we did wrong, but it’s coming on us this year,” Forney said. “I guess it just ain’t our year.” What they did wrong was; they got rid of the Mike Vick Show. Now they are playing the price.

So let me get this straight,

Leftwich comes in and had a pretty high completion percentage while throwing a TD. Didn’t Harrington do the same thing?

You people are dreaming if you think Byron Leftwich is the answer. He may be a slight improvement over Harrington due to his arm strength, but as you all saw yesterday he isn’t mobile and cannot deliver the ball behind that o-line.

How about you all stop trying to find a scapegoat (aka: blaming Joey, Brooking, Hall, Dunn) and just admit that the team sucks as a whole? There is no leadership on the team, and there is no emotion. Vick sure as hell didn’t have the leadership, but he had the emotion. Too bad the selfish idiot can’t tell right from wrong.

Petrino didn’t even give this team a chance to convert the 4th down. This is also one hell of an undisciplined team. Everytime I turn around, someone getting called for some stupid penalty.

I’d like to buy a Fathead preserving, for all posterity, the image of number 21 whiffing the open-field tackle on Reggie Bush. True, glw, Brooking pulling his own man off the tackle was humorous, but the D. Hall whiff was hysterical!

P.S. From the time I was six years old playing for the city team, defensive coaches drummed it into our brains: keep your head up when you tackle. Curious you’ve missed that basic instruction somewhere along the line …

TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO BASHED THE SMITH FAMILY LISTEN UP! Yes they were horrible owners for years but remember Taylor smith had finally turned the franchise over to Dan Reeves and we went to the super bowl. Reeves was fired by Arthur Blank and jimmy moras first and only winning season was with dan reeves players. WE ARE NOW SEEING THE RESULT OF ARTHUR BLANK AND RICH MCKAY’S HAND PICKED PLAYERS. So in conclusion we can surmize that at the end of the smith family reign they were much better owners than arthur blank. AM I out of line here? Dan reeves also was a father figure to mike vick and he never got into any trouble his first few seasons with reeves around. Reeves didn’t coddle vick and demanded that he was a real man on and off the field. If Blank doesn’t get rid of Mckay and turn this football team over to some real NFL caliber people then we will continue to suffer just like the good ole days.

Mr. Arthur Blank, shame on you for bringing such a terrible coaching staff to the ATL. Players shame on you for being so weak that you can easily be defeated by a ton of college teams at the moment. I have been an Atlanta Falcons fan for a long time and never have I been so embarrased, when looking at the remaining schedule I don’t see you winning another game this year including the game on the road to the winless St Louis Rams in December, they will be healthy by then and that pass attack will beat you to death. I am so ashamed of being a Falcons fan at the moment.

I wish that Mike Vick was back, too. Seriously. And it has nothing to do with race.

I wish we had that mediocre team that missed the playoffs the last two years. I missed that team.

Or what about that team that went to the playoffs and gotten embarrassed by the Eagles? I would LOVE to have that team right now!

In other words, I want a return to mediocrity, at least! This team is not mediocre. It’s incredibly horrible! At least with Mike Vick, I could see a horrible team become mediocre…

And for those who say that to want Vick back is immoral, what the Falcons are putting on the football field and charging money for is immoral. Mike Vick fought some dogs. He killed some dogs. But the Falcons are stealing money.

Blank sold out this team in furtherance of his man-crush on Vick. Now that his beloved Mikey is on his way to the slammer is it now possible to bring in a real coach with an agenda to win games and compete for championships rather than mold and coddle Blank’s Hip Hop Star.

Blank needed a weak sister coach that shared his vision of a dome filled with fans content watching Vick run around in circles on way to another 7 win season. Now that the bubble has burst on Blank Vick love affair possibly our owner can rid us of his latest Vick Babysitter and bring in a real coach.

Bird Babe, I can see why you could be in love with Joey. He is soooooo cute, but he is not a good QB. Byron is is a better QB, but not much. The O-line and play calling are the problems. We have problems in our defense, but they do keep us in the game.

This team is cursed, we need to perform a ritual. If anyone know what the curse is, let me know, I know some people in North Georgia that may be able to help.

Move on Vick’s gone. Not so. Vick isn’t gone anywhere. He’s suspended. Remember he’s still on the roster so he’s technically not gone. As for as the crime, it doesn’t fit the NFL trying to ban him for life. I have two boxers and would never fight them but if they fought each other, I don’t think I should go the jail for it. Some dogs will fight each other everyday without human intervention so why should he go to jail because he trained them to be better fighters. We train human beings to fight and die. The crime doesn’t fit the punishment. This man has repented and I pray that he will play in the NFL again. If the commissioner has a heart, he knows people make mistakes and should be able to atone for this mistakes. THE TRUTH.

The fact that the Falcons aren’t effective in the red zone and that the qb’s are on the ground as much as standing says simply that they are in need of a good (for once in the franchise history) offensive line. Either quarterback would shine if that was fixed.

1-6! What a franchise. Can’t wait to see what we do next game. I have a feeling it will be more of the same. Mckay needs to beef up the OL in the off season with trades and draft picks. No need to get a QB with the same swiss cheese OL. Better yet, we need to get a GM that will do whats needed to ensure Mckay doesn’t screw the off season up fpr 2008. Week 8 and already talking about 2008 and the off season. Both Joey and Byron are not the answer moving forward. They had a losing record prior to coming to ATL. I got a question to all these GOD lovers (yes, i velieve and love God too mind you). Do you really think MV is praying everynight?? Really?? No one knows what he’s doing at night (besides fighting dogs, but that’s in the past!). I’ll bet my money he’s praying to God to find out how to pay back the millions he owes, or to get his football career back, that’s what i think he’s praying for. I do NOT think he’s praying for forgiveness for his sins. To me, he’s like all famous people with money who think they are untouchable…they all find God when they’re suddenly caught!!

That player who says the football gods are angry is quite right. The Falcons did not stand up for their fallen leader and this is what happens when you crack under pressure from a group of people who can’t find love in a human, so they find it in animals, who don’t know any better. I hope the falcons lose for the remainder of the season. I love to see that stupid look on Petrino’s face each week. I almost look forward to it. Harrington is about as weak as the NFL gets. Hell, the NCAA quarterbacks are putting up better fights than he is weekly. Harrington should go back to school and bring one of the college quarterbacks; however Michael Vick is my first choice, but since that is not possible; anything is worth a try. The Falcons can hang up this season, just like they hung their teammate out to dry to stand alone. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. HA HA

D-hall is a selfish over-rated a-hole, who ONLY plays hard when he can make an interception, so he can show off for the cameras.

Brooking is a BUST and hasn’t made a big play in YEARS!!

I’m a 40 yr old female, who knows NOTHING about coaching, BUT can’t Stevie Wonder SEE that Jerious Norwood needs more than 6 carries per game???? Just imagine if he had 15 - 20. Can Petrino be that STUPID?? Or has Arthur forced him to play Dunn because he’s a “great guy” OFF THE FIELD?

Lastly, everybody knows that Mike Vick committed a crime and will go to jail to pay for it…HOWEVER, my comments are referencing the years prior to 2007. The Mike Vick/Mobile(athletic) QB haters had been crying for Mike to be benched or traded for a “pocket passer” since at least 2004….Well you have your “pocket passer” NOW… are you happy?? I don’t want to hear a word about the O-line and receivers…the O-line is just as bad as it was last year and the year before. I can answer the question of why Jerious Norwood doesn’t get more touches in the games. In Warrick Dunn’s contract, there is a part in it where he has to get a certain number of carries per game, and I think it is somewhere between 15 and 20 if I’m not mistaken. Sounds crazy to me, but hey, we are talking about the Falcons here. Warrick Dunn is a good guy, but his time here is done.

Too often bloggers venture off-course and resort to attacking each other instead of sticking to the subject. Everyone has their opinion about Vick and NONE of us have any inside information. We can only make assumptions of what the outcome will be. First, we are ALL human and make bad decisions, BUT it doesn’t mean we are beyond redemption. Name one person who hasn’t lied or did something contrary to what is RIGHT? No one makes excuses for Vick, BUT who are we to pass judgement? The Falcons are not performing well this season and it reflects the WHOLE team/organization and not just an individual player or coach. That being said, I still support the Falcons.

The reason black folks think the Vick situation is racist is because of some of the people here on this blog. They will forgive a child molesting priest or wife beater before they will forgive a man that fought or killed pitbulls.

You can talk about how vicious it is until you are blue in the face..the bottom line is it was PITBULLS!! Pitbulls attack/kill women and children daily.

Not saying he should NOT be punished, but most of you want the man to receive lethal injection or lose EVERYTHING that he owns plus him and his children be homeless……that’s the reason why we KNOW it’s bigger than PITBULLS!!

An objective point of view. Vick was the strength of this team. He aided the rushing game and got many first downs with his legs when the receivers couldn’t perform. He brought in fans and publicity. Mike Vick was the man. Mike Vick…isn’t here anymore, and it’s because of his own undoing. It’s unfortunate for him and the Falcons b/c the Falcons offense was built for him.

So let’s concentrate on who’s on the field. Harrington nor Leftwich is the answer for QB on this current team. Harrington lacks the time, and therefore, the confidence to throw the ball downfield. Leftwich can, and that helps the RBs run the ball through the middle b/c there’s a deepthreat. But Leftwich is injury-prone and immobile, putting him in danger of a CAREER ENDING injury playing behind our more depleted O-line.

Our receivers are getting better. Our D is better than last year’s. We need a young consistent kicker (nothing against Morty, but he is a short term answer). These are things that haven’t been addressed for the past two seasons.

Management needs to put proper pieces on the field to get the product they want. Unfortunately they overpay some players when they have great need in key positions. It starts upstairs. Get the right personnel and watch your production grow….that’s true for any job.

With that said, it’s hard to watch the Falcons right now…but I’m gonna keep watching and hoping b/c that’s what fans do.

By Petrino, This Aint College

October 22, 2007 2:01 PM | Link to this

It all starts with the coach and his plan. Vick’s gone, Kearny’s gone, Schaub’s gone and it’s clear that Petrino doesn’t have a winning plan, can’t adjust and is now shell-shocked. Get a set fast Bobby or you should be gone.

Deangelo Hall is a coward who mails in his performance and taints the entire Defense. I think back to premiere secondary men like Ronny Lott who could separate your head from your body - without thought, without fanfare. Hall couldn’t (but should) carry Lott’s jock strap and can’t separate the whites and darks on washday. Petrino should have benched this loser after the Panthers incident. Now Petrino looks like he doesn’t have a serious set.

The O-line is abyssmal (that’s dark crap). If they gave Harrington 3 - 4 seconds you’d have seen a first down on that last series. And who trains these morons (coaching, again). There were more mental mistakes on offense than even grown wussies are allowed.

The bright spot of the day was Leftwich’s touchdown and Harrington’s re-inspired leadership at the end. Joey, you’ve learned something about leadership - it’s about winning, not who just dropped your last pass.

What exactly do you morons mean by showing Michael Vick support?

If you mean hoping he finds true redemption (not by way of Oprah, but through God), gets his life together in the way it matters, and lives a long and productive life that benefits others in a positive way, then yeah, he deserves our support. Whether he ever plays another down of football is incidental to all that.

If you mean blindly overlooking his felonious activities just so you freaking idiots can watch him play football, then no, he should be subject to the penalties of the law, as well as those of his employer, just like the rest of us. If that means he goes to jail and has to sit out seasons due to a league suspension then so be it.

Consider this as well, you bunch of retarded knuckleheads, we haven’t let Vick down; he let us down by not being there on game day. He was supposed to have the backs of his teammates on the field because the was the team leader after all. He was supposed to play and perform to high standards for his employer as called for by his contract. He got himself in trouble and has now failed to deliver to all those counted on him.

I sure hope he has enough presence of mind to realize that your narrow-minded, self-centered support that absolves him of any responsibility or accountability in life just because he is sports star, is as empty as your vacuous soft-shelled heads.

Hey, Pop, you forget that Vick was also funding an illegal operation that participated in illegal gambling. The man plays professional sports. Profession sports frowns on players who get involved with gambling/glamblers. The law tends to frown on illegal gambling as well. He didn’t “just kill dogs”. He screwed up, so he has to pay the penalty. I’m guessing you have screwed up quite a few times in your life. Didn’t you pay the penalty, or did everyone just say let you off because you just made a mistake, or maybe because you are obviously a slow-minded dim wit?

Sandy,

You had a good argument until you started to call people names, then you lost all creditability like the majority of the people on this board. People that are supporting Vick, are not saying he should be absolved of his wrong doing. They are saying that he was convicted before he pleaded guilty, he’s being railroaded and paying a higher price than should, and that he was the team and no one wants to give him credit even though it is not blatantly obvious. See a competent well thought argument can be made with out calling others names and using other “words”.

It’s official: The Falcons are cursed, period. If not cursed, then something is/has/was/will seriously f’n them up. I’m 25 and have been watching them since ‘90-91, and they seem to go through some of the most EXTRACURRICULAR BADL LUCK BULLSHT that I’ve ever seen. And by that I mean they ALWAYS have moments of misfortune at every quarter, every half, every game, and every season and/or off-season. What can you do??

Maybe they tore down something that shouldn’t have been touched when they built the complex in Suwanee (this has been going on for FAR too long to just be in Flowery B)? Maybe the GA Dome was built on an old Vine City graveyard or an old slave trading auction block? This IS the south you know…..idk y’all:(

Now for football comments, Bird Babe what the hail art thou smoking?? Joey would’ve led them to the win? Leftwich wasn’t the answer? Uh babe, you REALLY need to stop it. Byron was drilling the ball to our recievers. He11, he even made Michael Jenkins look like an actual WR, which is something I thought NO ONE could do. Piano Man Harrington is a backup, period. Yes he got a late FG but he wouldn’t have been able to lead a comeback which would’ve required a late TD. His lack of arm-strength is a great liability in such situations where a strong throw in a tight window is needed vs. a touch pass or an accurate but fluttery pass. Tis the truth folks, just ask ya boy CHAD PENNINGTON.

Byron, while staue-esque in more ways than one, is by far a VAST IMPROVEMENT over the pianist. The injury will set the whole team back substantially b/c I had the nerve to actually see the offense paly with a renewed sense of URGENCY with him behind the center. But now that I think about it, I think they did that b/c they didn’t want Byron sitting behind the center for too long. Get him in, get him out, and get gone. Almost worked, but they had to play the 3rd qtr unfortunately. Alas, I DID NOT see that same urgency (other than Roddy White) when Josephine took over. i didn’t see it at all, sorry. His record and reputation does not afford ANY luxury of confidence of his “abilities” within ANY team or with ANY player. It is what it is ppl.

So with that being said, YES it is easy to blame the QB, but only b/c of his lack of accomplishment, especially given his high draft status (3rd overall) vs his backup who was 7th overall AND has a better winning % WITH multiple playoff appearances.

I do, however, acknowledge the obvious deficiencies with our “offensive” line. They are worse than the La Grange College football team. We might as well pay the UGA line under the table and let THEM play on Sunday. It doesn’t matter WHO the QB is, the line won’t keep em healthy anyway. Joey is next on the “get sh!% on list” for the next game, so get your wills and affairs in order Mr. Redman…

The Def was ok, THEY actually kept us in the game. But Brook, why on the good Lord’s wonderful Mississippi River Delta would u PEEL LEWIS SANDERS OFF REGGIE BUSH WHEN HE HAD HIM STOOD UP AT THE LINE, WITH JIMMY WILLIAMS ASSISTING ON THE TACKLE???? I dindn’t see it initially, but I saw the repalys on ESPN and they CLEARLY show this. They were even talking about it on the radio post game show; Jeff van Note was trying to defend KB by saying that Lewis whiffed, but Matt Chernoff wasn’t goin for it, and I’m dam glad no 1 here seemed to either. Last time I checked I wasn’t stupid (even though genetics suggest otherwise dd ;-), so I know I saw him give NO the lead, basically. Keith, it MIGHT be time to fold up the old tent and move on to the next town. Loved you at GT, especially in the early Joe Hamilton years but you are the weakest link, goodbye.

BTW- IS JOE HAMILTON AVAILABLE ???

The young 2ndary guys are performing better with each week, and putting car-hopper Darren Stone in there REALLY couldn’t hurt. Lawyer, your case was thrown out years ago brother. Its’ time for disbarment. Crocker is what we thought he was: trash. And D Hall actually played a good game yesterday if you saw it. The Saints only threw to his side twice, both incompletions. Their big pass plays came from play action passes down the seams and crossing the field vs Boley (Devery henderson Td) when LAWYER was supposed to have over the top safety help, and vs Chris Houston (Colston 30 yarder). Otherwise the Saints were pretty much held in check, just a missed assignment here and a absolute whiff on a assist tackle there cost us the game on D.

That being said, among other things on here, Vick did make the O Line look way better than it did yesterday and we would’ve won also. NOT SAYING that we should’ve gotten him outta jail to do it, or even wishing that he wasn’t in jail, but strictly speaking as a FOOTBALL FAN, yes VICK wouldv’e won the game. Sorry, haters (and Bird Brain).

LOL Dale in Newnan. Sorry you are what you are dave :-(

Jean - I have to admit - sadly - I took offense to JD. Kind of messed with him/her for about 4 days regarding the racist views. Then realized it was very much like messing with someone that was retarded. Kind of left a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. We can all have a much more enjoyable chat area, if we just totally disregard his/her actions. He/she also logs in as David Duke. The Falcons played a much better game under Leftwich. What’s the latest on his injury?

Again what did you people expect to happen. I hope Arthur Blank reads this and realize he will never be able to replace Mike Vick and the way you and the organization turned your back on the best player this franchise has ever had will forever be a reminder to you as we loose weekly. If you thought the dog fighting was bad just think we will have at least 3 more years of this. Vick you are missed even if they will not say it.

can we all agree that this so called team is lost without vick? its funny how some of these so called players said that they were gonna show that this team is more than a one man show…so far they haven’t prove s* except how to tank…and for those who dislike vick for his off the field actions, if vick was to play again for the falcons again, yall would be right there in line getting tickets again…no one is making excuses for him, but come on now its like people won’t be satisfied till he’s dead or something..there’s been worst crimes committed to people(not dogs),and some haven’t been blown up like his.

Watching Norwood get the ball every once in a while sort of made up for the loss - at least for me. On one of his carries during the 1st half (it may have been a four-yard gain, he decked one of the linebackers, one of those league-leading tacklers, so bad, even I could see the stars floating around his helmet when he got up.

To all the Mike Vick apologists it’s over folks, he’s not coming back. The Falcons went to the SuperBowl without Mike V. and they can get back without him. Man-up, Vick lovers, there’s life after Mike.

I think the more important apology should go to Dan Reeves. Dan got us to our only SuperBowl - and with a pocket passer. Mike V. never took us that far and, with his lack of leadership skills, (not physical talent) probably never would.

Dan Reeves, all true Falcons fans are sorry you left.

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid you Vick supporters are. Why in hell are you blaming the Falcons for turning their back on Vick? He lied to the commissioner and the owner. He also lied to all of you supporting him. Blank made the mistake of building this team around him. It’s like with Kobe in Los Angeles. They build the team around him. He does something stupid and gets suspended, the team is going to suck.

Same thing is going on here. Except some of you are living in a dream world where you think Vick is going to be back on the field for this team ever. And what exactly did you expect the Falcons to do when he was indicted? Have him show up to training camp and be an even bigger distraction to the team by being within the range of those PETA idiots? Heaven forbid the NFL tell him not to show up for training camp knowing he probably was going to be suspended anyway (personal conduct policy).

You idiots defend him like he is your god. Face it, your boy screwed himself and all of you over. And he wasn’t pleading guilty to killing dogs, but violating the Interstate Commerce Act. I guess it hurts to actually learn something about what’s going on. What’s the point? You’re probably the same bunch defending T.I. because of the color of his skin.

Arthur Blank allowed PETA and the klansmen in this city(and on this blog) to make him keep Mike Vick away from this team before he was even indicted.

Why is petrino running Dunn instead of Norwood. This is INSANE. Dunn was great in his younger days, but those days are gone. He is slow and only averaging 3.1 yds a carry. Norwood is young, fast and averaging 5.8 yds a carry. petrino use a little common sense here.

PEOPLE - So much tension on this blog :) Here’s a joke to loosen things up: What is the difference between Joey Harrington & Matt Schaub? About 3-losses :) Anybody really want a 3-4 quarterback (Schaub) or 1-5 (Harrington) to take you to the promise land? I think 38-28 is logically a better choice. But then again they do drop back and have blue eyes.

What if Vick told Authur Blank and Roger Goodell he LIED TO THE MEDIA—then fessed up and told them the truth? Would that change your opinions of Vick? Can we forfeit rest of the games and call it rebuilding year? Falcons are going to loose anyway. By forfeiting, should be able to protect players getting injured, and should be in better shape, better pass protection, catching and blocking and the whole nine yards.

Yes, I am kidding.

If you follow the play calling and personnel decisions that are being made, one can clearly see they are not in sync.

Running Dunn up the middle is insane, it doesn’t matter how many times you do it, the result will be the same. Can someone telegram Petrino and let him know Dunn is not power running back. For that matter, neither is Norwood.

Let us get off of Harrington holding the ball too long, I don’t believe Dan Marino ( one with fastest release) can get rid of the ball with the play calling and OL protection.

Coaches must able leverage and maximize the talent that is in the team and able adapt play calling, if not you will be looser.

Nothing more to say for rest of the season other than if King ARTHUR and Co, doesn’t do anything about the coaching situation, not buying season tickets and I am leaving Falcons to their loosing ways. Been following and supporting since 1976 and I am not going to be insane and expect anything different from this team as long as they keep on doing what they are doing!

Over and out.

JMT: I followed the link to Savevick.com and would like to ask you one simple question: Why would anyone be interested in buying anything with Mike Vick’s name on it? Give it up. Take a valium or prozac. Get over it. Vick is yesterday’s news and will probably never suit up again in the NFL. The best he can hope for is to play in Canada or in the arena league. Pitiful but true.

Oil and water, you seem to think somehow Arthur could have protected your hero and let me add and from the animal rights group.

What planet are you from? You appear to have a convoluted sense of understanding.

Here in the US, we have law enforcement agencies (some federal and some state) and they investigate unlawful activities regardless of who and what color you are.

In this particular case, state agencies found illegal activity ( it doesn’t really matter what your opinion is when it comes to law) during drug investigation (you may not thin drugs are illegal, wake-up it is) and started the investigation and they took slow road because of the “home boy” hero. Guess what, FBI and Justice Department got involved and unearthed dead dogs and your hero pleaded guilty.

I guess Arthur should have bribed FBI and the Justice Department to save your hero.

Like I said, really don’t know what planet you are from and it doesn’t matter, if you are here, you need to understand your legal limits.

Stop posting absurdity!

The main problem with this team seems to be the coach. He said he wants to throw the ball downfield with Harrington at first, and give Norwood the ball more. Well, neither happened. His playcalling has been very conservative(only putting 2 WRs on routes?), and Norwood doesn’t even get 10 carries. When he put Leftwich in the game, he spread the offense more. Wow, Leftwich must be so much better then Harrington, or he rather see Ledwich succeed while throwing Joey under the bus like they did in Detroit. Petrino can say anything he wants, but his actions tell alot more about what he is about.

I watched the GEORGIA WATER CRISIS news documentary on channel 2 and a thought came to mind. I heard the statement made that other species are taking OUR WATER. Wait a minute, DID NOT PLANTS AND ANIMALS PREDATE MAN? What gives us the right to say plant and animal life is not equally important as humans? Man is dependent on the Earth. Will we ever learn!!! We are ALL one. Period. But we have been deceived thru the vices of racism, which continue to divide and polarize us. This is why we should treat everything in the animal and plant kingdoms with the utmost respect. If we don’t respect plants, animals, and the Earth, then we don’t respect nor value human life, and I’M A VICK SUPPORTER. But I can reach out w/o judging Mike and share with him why I deem dogfighting to be inhumane, but I must be willing to listen to his and others beliefs. Right and wrong is RELATIVE in different cultures. That’s a problem within itself and it shouldn’t be. Dogfighting has been going on for centuries. I wonder if the team is moving to another city in 2009 or 2010. There is no way there will be enough support for this franchise to be even remotely successful. I guess it depends on what city the Jaguars move too…and then there’s the Saints too. Too bad, Arthur may be stuck here with no more than 35,000 people coming to the games and only the sharing of league revenue sustaining his profit margin….cause no way in hell he’s getting the bond money for a new stadium.

Getting rid of Grady Jackson because of a vendetta against him for suing the team. Mr. Blank, dispose of Mr. McKay now and rehire Dan Reeves as the GM. It’s the only way you’re going to save your(this) franchise. Sure we need some more offensive tackles in wake of the injuries suffered the past couple of weeks but the defensive line is the only part of the team holding games in check. Without them we’d have nothing. Mr. Abraham is going to be looking to leave at season’s end unless you do something now. Then what are you(we) going to have. Save the Falcons NOW!

I said Leftwich would be injured by the 3rd Qtr. If there was a QB that need max protection, that was him. Joey gets knocked around with a bad line wherever he goes, and he hasn’t missed a game because of injury. To fix this problem, spread the offense (3 WR, Norwood, Crumpler(?)) with an outlet and a quick route and I’ll bet that would be more successful than the conservative crap Petrino’s been giving the team up to this point.
