Thank goodness

Way to stop the bleeding. We needed a win in a bad way. Harrington looked really solid again. Maybe folks will cut him some slack. He and Jenkins and White seem to be really clicking.

Two touchdowns for Jenkins. He and Roddy are taking turns having huge games. Roddy made a few great catches, the one down the sideline was a perfectly thrown ball by Harrington. And then the one he had to turn on the afterburners and get his feet inbounds.

The defense had a great stand at the end. And then for them to miss the field goal was huge. Still giving up too many big plays.

I know the boys have been struggling, but I was disappointed with the Dome crowd. Good job to those who were there though because we were loud when we needed to be.

I’m so glad we have Morten Anderson. He’s money.

Good move: D. Hall fined and will sit

$100,000 is a lot of money to me and you, but probably won’t hurt him too much. Maybe it will make him think before he goes on a tirade like he did Sunday.

I’m glad he won’t start against the Texans on Sunday. Petrino should have benched him when it happened. At least Petrino is trying to regain some of the control. He had a reputation of being a disciplinarian coming in. It didn’t look that way Sunday. Especially when D. Hall was yelling at his coach and everyone else on the sideline. Total lack of respect.

I don’t think anyone who wasn’t at the Dome realizes what that did to the Falcons and the fans. Most of the fans were furious. They were loudly booing D. Hall and his antics. A lot were yelling for him to be benched.

It hurt the Falcons a lot, maybe this punishment will make him realize that.

Don’t blame Joey

Harrington can’t do anything more than he did today. He passes for more than 350 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions, and the Falcons still can’t win.

D. Hall needs to shut his mouth. He cost the Falcons a touchdown. After the pass-interference call, let it go. Don’t keep running your mouth. The Falcons had the Panthers stopped, until D. Hall opened his mouth again. He needs to know when to shut up. Petrino should have pulled him out. 10 penalties for 135 yards. That’s what cost the Falcons. Stupid penalties. Where’s the discipline? And refs, if you’re going to call us for a late hit, call the late hit on Peppers. That was more of a late hit than the one on Delhomme.

Harrington hit Roddy White, he hit Alge, he hit Michael Jenkins. He can’t do anymore than he did today. The line protected him and he found receivers. The running game even came around in the second half. Norwood found some holes and looked good.

I was optimistic at halftime. Despite Dunn’s fumble and the botched snap on the field-goal try, the Falcons were tied.

Still looking for that first win. It should have come today. Thanks, D. Hall.

Welcome Leftwich and Morten

About time the Falcons figured out that this situation isn’t going to get better without some help. Leftwich won’t solve any problems quickly. He probably won’t be activated for Sunday’s game and it’s going to take a while to get used to the offense.

Even if he does earn the starting job, he still has to play behind this horrid offensive line. There’s a reason he didn’t make it in Jacksonville, so I’m not getting overly excited about this move yet. What I am excited about is that 1) old reliable Morten Andersen is back (I hope I don’t jinx him) and 2) the Falcons know they need help and McKay isn’t sitting back doing nothing.

Now, can we sign some offensive linemen to block?

Hope to see you at the Dome.

Go Falcons!

Where’s Morten?

Can we bring Morten Andersen back? I’m not off the bandwagon yet, but this team has a long way to go. For every good run or pass play we had, there were more penalties, sacks and big plays given up to suck out any momentum we might have gained.

Then we actually get a nice long drive that has the Jaguars on the ropes only to have Prater shank a close-range kick. We should have scored a touchdown, but those are rare right now, and we need any points we can get. Prater better be gone.

The good news was that Abraham and the rookie Anderson had good games, Harrington didn’t throw any interceptions, and Norwood looked strong.

Bottom line for next game: 1. Offensive line has to protect better, especially during the blitz.

  1. Harrington needs to get rid of the ball faster knowing the line can’t hold guys off very long.

  2. Receivers have to get open, even if it’s short.

  3. Defensive line has got to get more pressure on the quarterback. They did in the first half today, and the outcome was good.

It’s not fair to put a loss on one person, but Prater has shown he’s not going to make it in this league. At a time when points are precious, we need someone who at least can make a 30-yarder.

Falcons come home next week. Come on down and show the boys some support. Maybe they’ll play better with some home cookin’.

Wasn’t Harrington’s fault

What a bummer. I expected more out of the Falcons than this.

The offensive line was atrocious and so was the run defense.

This wasn’t Harrington’s fault. Sure he threw two INTs, but the second one was Jenkins’ fault. He hit nine different receivers for 199 yards. He needs more support.

Of course the offense couldn’t get anything going downfield. We need to be able to go deep and have guys make plays.

Harrington isn’t a great QB, but he’s serviceable if given some time. Look at the preseason.

The good news is that it’s only one game. Plenty of time to get things turned around.

Stay on the bandwagon - that is if you didn’t leave when you found out Vick was out.
