Glad Falcons are back

The final score was bad, but you can’t tell much from a preseason game, especially the first one. Harrington looked solid, and we escaped any more major injuries.

Shockley looked too much like Vick, hopping around in the pocket, getting passes batted down and intercepted and missing open receivers. I hope he settles down because I would like to see the hometown boy be good enough to be a backup.

Rookie Laurent Robinson has had a solid camp and continued to look good in the second half.

Thank goodness there are only three more exhibition games left. I’m ready for the real season to begin.

Go Falcons!

Jayhead, I don’t remember the 1998 team having a dog killer on it, and they seemed to sell a bunch of seats.

This town will only embrace a winning team, but they’re not alone in that. Charlotte, Phoenix, Houston, Nashville and other southern, transient cities which grew during the 80’s and 90’s have strong ties to their college teams, but because of the trnasient nature of their population, won’t support a losing pro football team with butts in the seats. It’s the way it is for pro football teams in the south. In the north, their college teams generally suck (if they have college teams at all) so places like New York, DC, Philly, Chicago, and Green Bay will always support losing pro teams.

It’s the way it is, Jay, and it has nothing to do with having a dog killer on your roster.

And this is coming from someone (me) who was the biggest Vick apologist in Georgia, but no longer after reading every single page of that disgusting indictment.

But Harrington looked good, the defense was okay for missing three key starters, Cundiff looks like a winner, and Robinson is a stud with Spider-Man hands. They’re sticky. Maybe, if Robinson continues to play this way, we can nick-name him Spider-Man.

DJ needs to work with the second team offense and get some decent protection before we make any judgments, but he didn’t look good. Redman’s line may have looked good, but he made some bad decisions and was lucky to not have 2 or 3 passes picked off. And Petrino seems to be one of those kind of coaches who cares about the almost interceptions that are luckily not made. Petrino seems to be one of those kind of coaches who doesn’t ever want to have to rely on luck. I like that.

Also, it must be said that there were many times when there was more than one reciever open in space and Petrino’s routes never had two recievers sharing the same space. And the QB actualy threw to a running back! Who’d a thought that was still legal.

The way the offense looked tonight, in a meaningless preseason game, just proves how HORRIBLE Greg Knapp actually was as an offensive coordinator. Imagine how good this offense will look once the season starts!

GREG KNAPP SUCKS MONKEY BALLS!!!

D. J. Shockley sounds like a football name. It isn’t. This person is, by his own words, satisfied to sit on his assets while others lead the way. It is a sad commentary for possibly the best high school quarterback to ever come out of North Clayton. It ended there. UGA took a look and decided he was second string. Since then he’s progressed to 3rd string in the NFL and by his own assessment comfortable with that: Waiting. God save us that the current coaching staff doesn’t compound the drafting error the Falcons made by signing him and actually play him in a real game. He saw no action in 2006. Unless the AJC stats are wrong, he had no appearances. Some one tonight commented they wanted a black quarterback in Atlanta. Well, there you go. Not even the most rabid racist Atlanta fan realized he had one. Let’s hear it now: Loud and proud: D. J. Shockley is black (and has no desire to be anything but).

George Hale, you are an idiot with no knowledge of anything you speak of. DJ Shockley fought David Greene, the entrenched starter during his RSSophomore year, even playing a pivotal role in the Sugar Bowl win over FSU. He then played the next year, only to get hurt. He was nagged by some injuries the next year, but played. His RSSenior year, he led the Dawgs to a SEC Championship. He never once acted like, or said that he was content to sit on the bench waiting.

He was drafted in the 7th round by the Falcons and was the 3rd string QB. How the hell, George Hale you insane imbecile, is a 3rd string QB going to get playing time in the NFL when the starter starts every game but one, and the one game he doesn’t start, the back-up QB with three years of experience doesn’t get hurt.

It wasn’t enough that Shockley handidly beat out the former 3rd string QB whom the coaches were high on and whom had a whole years worth of experience in the system?

George Hale, you are an incomparable idiot. Seriously, George Hale, you are so dumb, your intelligence is so low, you shouldn’t be allowed to live anymore.

I made a mistake, so I apologize to the racist George Hale, it was during DJ’s RSFreshman year and Greene’s RSSophomore year that DJ played a pivitol role in winning the Sugar Bowl. I just wanted to clarify, you moron SOB.

Bird Babe when are they going to replace you. Very sad attempts at trying to make a joke about DJ and Vick. From your sorry writings in the past it seems as if your the one missing and hopping on one leg. Nascar Fan how many games did they sell out after 98? EXACTLY. How many games you think will be filled with Falcon fans this year? Exactly. If you did any research you would know that Vick is now basically being accused of funding the operation and not fighting the dogs. Either way you nor do any other person on this blog or sports world know all the facts. Why cant you idiots wait till all the facts come out before you make up all these silly a* accusations. F*** the AJC. F*** Terance Tom Moore. F*** THIS BLOG… One more thing get used to the losting because the Falcons will be doing a lot of that this year.

We very rarely have a winning record…like once in franchise history!!

But, tonight wasn’t bad. I missed Vick, as all of us remembered. Obviously, that is done. He was nowhere. When will Falcons announce their decision for 2007?

Mike Vick is a dumba__ for what he did, no doubt. But, he is being unfairly targeted by PITA, Media…..

Maybe Baltimore will pick him up as rapists and murderers are okay with Baltimore.

Remember, I am white, and am a MIke Vick lover, know his cousin..

Dude, did you actually READ the indictment? Are you literate, CAN you read? If you can, you’d know that the idictment states that Vick did much more than fund the operation. He took dogs across state lines to fight them. He was present at many dog fights in VA, and bet (gambled… BIG NFL NO-NO, and probably the reason Goodell will ban him for this year and possibly longer (forever?)) on dogs. The idictment also states that he was “the decider” on which dogs were to be put to death for not performing well, and even helped in the execution of some of the animals.

So why doesn’t your IGNORANT @$$ learn how to read, and read every disgusting page of the idictment, as well as read what I wrote, you ignorant SOB.

I said that the town only supports a winner. So in 1999, OF COURSE they weren’t going to sell tickets. I explained very well, using logic, why the town only supports a winning team. You, I know, probably wouldn’t know what to do with a logical argument, but there you go.

Dude, seriously, you need some help. I know in your world, OJ didn’t do it and is searching every golf course in the country for the real killers, but Michael Vick is GUILTY. I knew, without a doubt, that Kobe Bryant was innocent. That chick was looking for a quick settlement to her false charges, so good on Kobe for making her stand trial.

But Vick is innocent, you complete moron. And for once in his life, Terence Moore is right. The black community has a real problem with common sense when it comes to their celebrities and right and wrong. Dude, just because Vick is black doesn’t mean he deserves your illogical, undying support. Kobe did, because he was obviously being played. But Vick? Vick is an immoral, selfish borderline sociopath.

That’s the kind of guy you want your kids to emmulate? I hate to say it, but no wonder why the black community consistantly struggles. Dr. Cosby and the Black Crusaders (30 Rock reference) are right. Your community should be embracing Condoleeza Rice and Barrack Obama, not 50 Cent and Michael Vick.

As a community, y’all’s priorities are so screwed up, it isn’t funny.

Back to D. J.: I believe he has the skills. I also believe that in his mind that’s good enough. What the hell does that mean? I believe he has no heart. He’s content to be #3. I believe he lacks two very important basics: Willingness to learn and a commitment to change. When the pressure came tonight he was true to form, ran like a scared little b#@%h out of the pocket. He won’t learn anything until he’s uncomfortable being #3. Again, I stand by my post, in his own words he’s comfortable to just wait. No heart. No chance. No career. And I don’t believe the critics that he’ll develop. He ‘s either doing it or he’s not. And, he’s not. No heart. No chance. No career.

Actually you dumb a* the guy who is helping the Feds, you know the guy Tony Taylor said Vick did not kill any dogs. He basically funded the operation. Everything he said basically went against what the indictment said so yea get on ya research asap because your behind. Terrance Moore is an a* kissing idiot and everyone knows it. That guy is more bandwagon than any regular ATL fan. Not too long ago he was slupring Mike Vick up but since he wants a job at ESPN he is spewing nothing but nonsense. The thing about him is that he think’s black people support Vick because he is black. Well he is wrong. Blacks are supporting him because they believe in due process something that a lot of the idiots like you have forgotten. People are talking about they want him sentenced to life, executed and etc without him even having a trial. I didnt even read your whole post because it was mostly b******. The problem with people like you is that you actualy want your kids trying to be look up to athletes instead of looking up to the people that raise them. You know the people refered to as parents. Come on dude your post was so weak that I was laughing the whole time. The girl in Kobe case was lying yet he still paid her off? RIIIII. I actually believe OJ had a part in the murder but for some reason idiots like you feel that all black people feel OJ was innocent. He was found innocent in a court of law so I guess it left people like you feeling salty. Going back to the testimony Taylor gave he actually said Vick did not bet on anything that indeed him and the other guys split the money and Vick saw nothing from it. I thought gambling involved a person betting money and losing it or receiving it. I can read just fine and I guess you didnt even attempt to read what TONY TAYLOR SAID. The guy who is helping the Feds. I wish white people would realize that so called black leaders like Bill Cosby and Al Sharpton do not speak for all blacks. These guys have just as many skeletons as the people they try to talk down on. But I guess your right the black community does have their priorities are messed up just because you and Bill Cosby said so. WHAT A JOKE .

Wow. NASCAR after reading some of your post are you sure that your not the racist and not Hale? Seem to be kind of upset at blacks. I love the way you pair all blacks in one group and say how they all feel. I also love how blacks have their priorites are messed up. How is Michael Vick and 50 cent similar other than being black? 50 cent is a rapper who talks about killing people and selling drugs. He actually did time for selling drugs. Vick has yet to be convicted of any crime and hasnt sold any drugs that im aware of. Very intelligent post by you though. Gotta love how racism is still very alive.

Whoever wrote: “But I guess your right the black community does have their priorities are messed up just because you and Bill Cosby said so. WHAT A JOKE” Dude your a idiot, the black community is so weak its not even funny. I read a article the other day about how black women are now looking to date white men because 1 in 7 black males are in jail and not around to take care of their families. Maybe if yall maned up and took responsibility for your actions your community would get more respect.
I for one have alot of respect for imigrants from africa and other countries but not much trust in american blacks. This comes from a young white male who worked the streets of MLK, Dekalb, Capital Homes/perry homes, techwood, jonesboro north/south, (before tore down), Bankhead courts, Clevland Ave, ect…..pretty much alot of s** …..ive probably worked about 50% of all the apts in metro atlanta since around 99 doing cable tv/internet sales. Ive outsmarted carjackers, walked into gas station robberys, and talked my way out of some pretty crazy situations that i feel blessed to of survived. How come everytime i had something crazy happen in my 8 years of working the streets of atlanta it was black males?? Sht keeping it real im more likely to shoot a black male protecting myself than i am getting in a fight with some redneck in a bar. Im a cool cat…thats why ive made it this far. But forreal its obvious to me when i see little kids running around singing songs off the radio no 4 year old should know that your race is definitly headed in the wrong direction. And praise God i work in better areas now.

Good grief. Why are we still talking about DJ? Probably the most overhyped Bulldawg to come out of Athens since Herschel.

DJ’s got a gun of an arm, I’ll give him that. Problem is, neither he nor the receiver has a clue where the ball will come down. He also had a bad habit of throwing it at the receivers back ankle. Bottom line, he couldn’t beat out David Greene and he’s not going to beat out anybody on this team.

The Falcons drafted DJ as a project. They saw a running quarterback who might could come in and run Vick’s plays. Problem is, the NFL learned how to shut Vick down - take away the scramble and he’s got nothing. And DJ’s got nowhere near the running ability that Vick had.

Harrington was alright. White still dropping easy to catch 3rd down conversion passes. Redman is slow as heck and is going to get killed. The 1st team defenses still giving up big runs and special teams need alot of work. Its only preseason but I see a trend developing.

Back to football……One word came to mind last nite…Balance. The team looked balanced , mainly offense. the ball went to horn, white, robinson, jenkins, blakley, norwood, snelling, ovie, they really spread it around. Good mix of running plays, power run with 2 tight ends, 5 receiver spread formation I was impressed.

How about a little reality, it doesn’t matter if you believe dog fighting is ok or not. The fact is, that it is illegal. If you are one of the privileged few that are chosen to play in the NFL and make the mega-bucks, you owe it to your owner your teammates and your fans to show a little class and not be involved in such things. This was a long-term operation that was set up and structured to avoid detection. Black painted buildings were constructed and tall fences were built to hide what was going on because its operators knew what they were doing was illegal. Mike, as the owner of the property, it appears was right in the thick of it. The team and the NFL had to make the hard choice to remove Vick from the game so that the rest of the players, coaches and fans could get on with their season without all the distractions, bad press and protests that would be inevitable at any game he played. So, bottom line, Mike Vick is either a co-conspirator in an illegal operation or a naïve patsy that was led astray by miscreant friends. Which one is it? Neither seems a smart choice to be an NFL quarterback. As a pure football fan I believe it doesn’t matter if he is guilty or not, his numerous off-field bad decisions have been detrimental to the Falcons and the League. Intelligent fans will understand reality, move on to support the team, the new coach and the new quarterback. The rest of you seem to be just like the racist peckerwoods of an earlier era, blinded by color.

NASCAR FAN, don’t be so quick to judge and group everyone who is Black in the same category as feeling a certain way about a particular person or subject.

I don’t even feel like addressing the Vick issue but I don’t espouse 50 Cents. Please don’t allow some of the things you observe in the media as it relates to Black professional athletes and the hip hop culture to shape your opinion of all Black people.

Additionally, there is an unfortunate number of Black people experiencing various types of challenges but everyone that’s Black is not struggling. I realize that’s what’s exploited but it’s also just one segment of the Black race.

Okay everyone, you can get back to the Falcons now.

I haven’t seen a quarterback for the Falcons see the rush comming, move up in the pocket while keeping his head up and throwing a strike downfield in a long time. Winning fills seats in stadiums not the type of quarterback. I’m more concerned for the defense. They started off just like they ended last year. Pennington didn’t even throw a pass for the Jets and they were effective against us.

Nascar, How do you KNOW that Vick is guilty? Ray Lewis was charged with murder and during the trial it came out that he had NOTHING to do with the fights that broke out. Mr T Moore, Im not a Vick loyalist, but I do think a person is innocent until proven guilty and not the other way around. Im a football fan first, then a falcon fan. If Vick is exonerated, which I think he will be, and let go, you called Vick haters will see just how fast he is picked up by another team. NASCARFAN, I agree with your assessment of Petrino, and you were right on point about fans in the south. I would say the lone exception would be the state of Texas. They seem to support football on all levels. Maybe it’s because so many of their high school plays attend in state schools. Also, since there are so many division 1 schools in the state, a large number of their college players are drafted by local NFL teams. That makes for a lot of loyality on all levels.

MVick has definitely shown some really poor judgement, and he is paying the ultimate price for it. However, I fail to understand the mentality that causes an individual to get so worked up on his issues. Individuals that participate in the death and/or mistreatment of dogs certainly can’t be more important than individuals causing the death and/or mistreatment of human beings on a daily basis(see draft dodgers George Bush & Dick Cheney).

Wow, 4-wide on a first down play. I like it.

When Harrington stepped up in the pocket and made the throw to Blakely, all my mind could see was Vick pulling the ball down, running 11 yards, and sliding or fumbling. Nice to have a guy who can step up in the pocket and make a throw for a first.

Man, I really wish we had Finneran. We need the tall guy across the middle on third down. He would’ve helped Harrington tremendously.

I like what we saw out of Robinson. I think he’s a year or two away from being a major contributor, but so far, me like.

I like how people are talking about the stadium being empty this year. I have my season tickets; I will be at every game.

The people who WILL be there: Falcons fans.

The people who WON’T be there: Vick Fans.

I’d rather be at a Dome half-full of people who actually give a flip about the team than be at a Dome full of the idiots that have permeated it since Vick came to town.

Save your money, buy your MV7 Minnesota Vikings jersey, and don’t come to the Dome. We’ll be actually watching football.

My family has had season tickets since day 1 (1966 for those who aren’t real fans). We sat through Chris Miller, Jeff George, and even Chris Chandler as he led us to a Super Bowl.

The real fans were there before Vick. They will be Falcons fans long after Vick is but a distant memory. The rest of you, don’t let the door hit you will the good Lord split you.

shoulda traded vick for CJ at least you didnt hide the fact that you are racist. Yea Harrington stepped up and made a good throw. To act as if Vick never made that type of play basically sums up how silly some of these fans are. I saw plenty of games where he stepped up and made plays like that but I guess since it was Vick it did not count. Joey and the offense will be fine. The o line allowed too much penetration for my liking. The defense will be the problem with this team just as it has the last few years. When the defense cost us a couple of games I wonder will people blame Harrington or give the defense the blam as it deserves. Seeing how Vick was blamed even when the defense couldnt stop anybody I can easily see people finally giving them the blame this year just because Vick couldnt do anything right in some people eyes. I too like Robinson. I say give this kid a few years and some strength and he will probably be the wr that they thought Roddy White would be. Right now he is very skinny and doesnt seem to have much strength. Mark it down now. The defense will be the main problem with this team.

Why can’t Joey Harrington’s name be added to that list?

By no defense

August 11, 2007 2:00 PM | Link to this

I hate when people bring up the why cant he do it topic. Every qb you named had something this team doesnt have. A FREAKING DEFENSE. I understand what your saying Chris but you have to admit that those guys had good defenses. Grossman had probably a great defense, Dilfer had one of the best defenses of all time, and that Falcons team had a good defense. If we had a defense we would have probably been to the promise land a few years ago. This defense has a lot of youth, a lot of injuries to key players, guys who are very close to being done with their career, guys who are not very good, and not a lot of depth. We had the 22nd ranked defense last year if im remembering correctly. Trust me we wont be improved this year. If they cut Vick which might be a possibilty then the cap hit will make it even harder to get some better guys on the defensive side of the ball. I dont know if Abe will be healthy the whole year. I dont know how much pressure we will get on the qb. The pass defense is horrible. We really need another safety. Crocker is not good. JWill is struggling trying to learn the position. If we had even a decent defense I could easily see us making the playoffs. The defense is going to be a major problem for this team just as in years past. WE HAVE TO BE BETTER ON DEFENSE OR IT WONT MATTER WHO IS PLAYING QB. I see it now. Offense puts up 35 defense give up 38.

I was talking about that crazy guy’s black community. The black community I grew up with was nothing like this guy. They didn’t want OJ to get acquitted simply because he was black, and they don’t blind themselves to the disgusting, immoral things Vick has done. I think there is definately a split in the black community. There are the people who want their children to embrace Dr. Cosby, Ms. Rice, Mr. Obama, and responsible celebrities of their same ethnicity, and then there are those who will embrace OJ and Michael Vick and 50 Cent and TO and AI and others who glorify the “thug” life. And I hate that word, and I used to defend Michael Vick into the high heavens when people would call him a thug just because of the way he wore his hair or dressed. Being a thug and glorifying the thug life has nothing to do with the clothes you wear or if you have cornrows, being a thug is based all on your actions (people in the KKK are thugs from a different mother). After reading every single disgusting page of that indictment, I will defend Michael Vick no more. He is a thug. Worse, he displays sociopathic tendencies in the way he and his “boys” would torture these dogs before they killed them.

So I’m sorry if y’all thought I was getting after the “whole” black community. It’s my fault for not explaining. But the community that that crazy guys represents, that community which is going to back Vick “because it’s only dogs” or just because he’s black no matter what he does… that’s the community that’s screwed up.

So you wont wait till all the facts come out ? well alrighty then. Like they said its an indictment its what they believe happened. after all the facts come out a lot of things might change. its not about supporting vick in my opinion. its about due process and letting all the facts come out before you write a person off. its been plenty of times where a person was accused of something horrible and later was found to have done nothing wrong. its not wise to rush to judment on anyone but everyone isnt the same so more power to you. yea people who will support him even if he is guilty is kind of crazy but that are those people. its not only blacks though other races have done that type of thing. its never right to group a certain race or type of people together like that. i know where your coming from because its been plenty of times where i have supported a person thru thick and think and it gets to a point where you just get fed up. you can stop supporting the guy but to call him a thug is not called for. just move on and concentrate on this team. chris if we had the defense the bears had last year i could easily see this team making a splash but like someone else said, this defense is just not that good. one more thing. nascar you should really look find out what the thug life is. i have never seen oj gloriy the thug life. 5o cent yea ill give you that one. oj was a murderer straight plain and simple.

The Falcons are going to be very good this season. Last season, the maligned defense surrendered an average of 20.5 points per game. The offense, led by Mr. Gain a thousand yards, score no points Vick, scored an average of 18.25 points per game. This offense, with Harrington, will do better. if the defense can do as well as it did last season the Falcons will go 11-5!

Either the Jets have a George Allenesque return team, or the Falcons have a Deion Sanderesque coverage team!! Deion approached tackling like Superfeller approached kryptonite…

Due process is a legal term that applies to court of law… NOT public opinion.

I KNOW that Barry Bonds is a juicer.

I KNOW that Mark McGwire is a juicer.

I KNOW OJ commited double murder.

I KNOW Michael Vick is thug dog fighter - killer.

I KNEW Kobe Bryant was innocent.

I don’t and didn’t need to wait for a court to tell me otherwise. It’s called common sense and believing what you see with your eyes and hear with your ears. Just because some court said that OJ was innocent, does that make him any less of a murderer? Hell no. Just because no one has proven that Bonds and McGwire didn’t do steroids, does that make them any less of the cheating scum they are? Hell no. How did I know Kobe was innocent before he even went to trial? Common freaking sense. How do I know Michael Vick is guilty no matter what happens at his trial? Common freaking sense.

For you to defend him in the face of common sense because of the color of his skin and then hide behind the legal idea of due process, which has no place in a public arena, is cowardly and wrong.

All this is payback for Blank turning a professional football franchise into a one-man vaudeville road show. Many here talk about Vick “filling the seats”. Fill them with what? Arthur could have attracted the same temporary home crowd by taping $5 bills to the seats not all ready occupied by the real Falcons fans. True fans pull for the team instead of a headliner. The Vick bubble was bound to burst sooner or later. Now we can get back to football.

Fred - You might try looking up “thug’ in the dictionary for starters. Then maybe do a little reading of history. Contrary to current politically correct popular opinion, every derogatory term in the world wasn’t made up with just blacks in mind.

Fred, are you illiterate? Do you actually read what people write, or do you look for buzz words?

I used to DEFEND Michael Vick against people attacking him for calling him a thug. I wrote that people in the KKK are thugs. I don’t think there are any black people in the KKK, you simpleton idiot.

Why don’t you READ what people write before you attack them you illiterate moron?

And yes, Michael Vick’s actions as outlined by the indictment are the very DEFINITION of thug. His skin color has nothing to do with it, you race bating son of a b!tch.

Never, EVER, insinuate that I’m a racist again or so help me God I will hunt you down and show you that the color of your skin doesn’t mean anything to me as I’m kicking your @$$.

You ignorant piece of garbage.

NASCARfan - Maybe you can take Fred to a race sometime. Based on your description of him it sounds like he’d fit in nicely. The two of you might have fun together “kicking the @$$” of anyone who doesn’t like Junior. Throw some beers at Gordon too. Who knows, you guys might become buddies.

By NASCARfan

Dude why would I throw beer at a driver I like? Why would I throw beer? That’s just wrong in and of itself.

Believe it or not, Morris, one can be a fan of Junior, Senior, AND Gordon. Shocking, isn’t it, Morris?

But I have no problem throwing down with some race baiting SOB who has issues with reading comprehension who wants to call me a racist with no proof.

I love how that works, too. I call people in the KKK thugs. I call Michael Vick a thug. So that makes me a racist? Tell me the logic behind that, Morris. You do understand the concept of logic, right? Morris, I bet you don’t even know the etymology of the word thug, do you? If you want to know, I’ll be more than happy to explain it to you.

I’ve done nothing but implore people to see that being a thug has nothing to do with what clothes you wear, how your hair looks, or the color of your skin. Being a thug is all about action. If you burn crosses in people’s yard, you’re a thug. If you hold, attend, or fund dog fights, you’re a thug. If you torture and then execute animals, you’re a thug. So I guess that makes me a racist and Terence Moore an Uncle Tom because we refuse to close our eyes to common sense and human decency.

So, if we were to shout from the top of Stone Mountain that OJ really didn’t do it and that Michael Vick has NO involvement in the disgusting and heinous activities, would that make us okay?

Actually, it would just make us ignorant and stupid.

So, Morris, why don’t you tell me some more things about myself, because you seem to have a great ability to espouse works of fiction.

Vick will be found innocent but he will still be guilty although the Federal government could not prove anything just because the all might Nascar fan knows it. Dude your an idiot. Tito all of your predictions have never happened. You do know that Harrington threw more interceptions than touchdowns last year right? You do know that Altanta was ranked near the bottom on pass defense or that doesnt matter to you. For all the problems the offense had they were ranked higher than the defense which was something like 22 overall in the NFL. There is no way Atlanta wins 11 games this year. Tito remove Joey’s nuts from ya chin because that wont be happening. This team will barely win 6 games if that many. The schedule is tough and the defense still sucks.

The D-Line will keep the Falcons in playoff contention unless/until key injuries arise. Gonna be a fun line to watch.

The season is gonna be lots more fun than most of you think. When this defense bonds and solidifies, it’s gonna be an awesome group. If the offense is barely serviceable and makes few mistakes, we could honestly be looking at a playoff team. It might not look that way early, but by midseason the defense will be poised for a run…

By huh

August 11, 2007 8:23 PM | Link to this

Did you see how the d line almost did nothing last night. The defense needs a lot of work. If Abe goes down like last year we wont get much pressure on the qb. Babs doesnt do it for me. Coleman did not have a good year last year and he is coming off an injury. I like the young guys I just dont know how long it will take them to make big contributions. We really need to get that safety position handled because we are facing some good passing teams this year. With how this defense is shaping up we might have to score 40 points a game just to win 8 games this year.

Got to agree with Jayhead, if Shockley plays like Vick, the games will sell out. Otherwise, the Dome will be half-empty.

NASCARfan, you really are an idiot.

Did you really say Falcons fans would only follow winners? Well, if you haven’t noticed, Falcons season tickets have been sold out since Vick joined in 2001. Moreover, the season tickets are long gone well before the season starts. The Falcons - w/o Vick - were unable to do that in 1999, the year after they went to the Super Bowl!!

The Falcons offense looked pitful on Friday. The defense was even worse. Unless, Vick is brought back, the Falcons won’t be competitive again until 2010. GO FALCONS!

Prejudice still lives on in the hearts of Georgians.

Also, I would like to announce that there is a difference between fact and opinion, and there is a difference between racism and prejudice. Some of you guys need to learn to decipher between the two.

Furthermore, How did D.J. look like Vick other than his dark skin and short stature ?

D.J. looked nervous in the pocket, and ran around rather ineffectively, and inefficiently. Atleast Mike Vick used his legs to his advantage, and how to get out on the edges so his passes don’t get batted down.

Now being compared Mike Vick (from a purely athletic standpoint) is a bad thing ?

Man, 3 years ago, a comparison to Mike Vick would have been a good thing. This IS the same Mike Vick, right ?

The AJC (but not the AJC alone) has practically crucified this potentially innocent man on just a personal level.

Now you are going to slander him on a professional level ? Pathetic.

Are you guys done tearing this man down ? You, along with other media counterparts, have successfully convinced America that he is Pitbull Hitler. Enough is Enough.

Some station/paper/magazine in the media has to use the vertebrae they were blessed with, and call for due process for this man. I think the country needs to be reminded of the principles upon which it was founded.

Now that I’ve gotten that off of my chest..

I believe the Falcons do have a chance to surprise people with their record. The change in system means that teams will have to modify their gameplans against the new Falcons, and identify how to stop the threats in Petrino’s offense. Stacking the box, and QB spies wont be the most effective strategy against the Falcon’s offense.

Also, Mike Zimmer will bring some championship experience to our defense (He has been Dallas’ DC since their championship runs, if I remember correctly). If you combine that with a depth of talent at the OLB positions, our athletic DBs, 2 good when healthy defensive linemen in Coleman and Jackson, our pass rushing expert in John Abraham, and a plethora of young depth then you are guaranteed a good team for years to come.

After glancing at the schedule, I will make a prediction for 7-9 for our hometown birds. Of course, I will always keep the hope of the Falcons having a winning season.

Anyways, I can’t wait for next weeks game, and the chance to watch the young pieces of our defense.

Which team, the Colts or Falcons, had the stingier defense, in terms of points allowed per game? If you answered Colts, you are one hundred percent incorrect. The Colts defense allowed opponents to score an average of 22.5 points per game. The Falcons allowed 20.5, two points fewer per game. The difference was the offenses for the two teams. The Falcons, with Felonious at Qb, averaged 18.25 points scored per game. The Colts averaged scoring almost 27 points a game. if the Falcons’ defense can remain at the same level as a year ago and if the offense can add three or four points per game the Falcons will have a magnificent year!

OK Mr. Satistic, but which defense allowed the fewest points in the playoffs? That would be Indianapolis! He comes with half a* stats everytime. He has made so many bad predictions that he has no credibility. Yes this offense will probably be fine but the defense wont be able to stop anybody just as they have not been able to the last 2 years. The pass defense is horrible and the run defense is average but definately better than it was 2 years ago. Until this team is able to stop the opposing team from doing whatever they please this team will suck no matter who is the qb. This defense gave up so many big plays last year that it was flat out ridiculous. And why is Rossum even playing defense. This guy is special teams only and he is barely decent at that .

By David Duke

August 13, 2007 12:26 PM | Link to this

Spare me the dull-witted, repetitive cliches. The Saints gave up an average of 18.8125 points per game but scored at the rate of 25.8125 a game. They outscored the opposition by a touchdown per game on average. In two games against the Falcons the Saints allowed a total of sixteen points and they scored fifty-four. Now, the Saints defense played pretty well against the Falcons but the main problem, from a Falcons’ perspective, was the inept offense and the Felon unning it. It stunk! The Saints got a lot better when they brought in a capable quarterback and the same thing is going to happen this year in Atlanta!

By Lil E

August 13, 2007 2:01 PM | Link to this

The stats are useless David Duke. I say that because they can not even be use as supporting information to your argument. Your numbers don’t explain that the Saints played the Falcons and Bucaneers two times a year, which are two of the worst offensive teams in the league.
If I were to use stats in a similiar manner, I could say the Saint’s D was better than the Steeler’s D. Who is stupid enough to believe that, though ?

The Saints also added MORE than Drew Brees. Drew Brees without Marques Colston and Reggie Bush wouldn’t have accomplished much. If they would have went into this season with the same LB corps from last year, they wouldn’t have been as effective. It take more than a glamorous FA QB to turn a p** poor team like the Saints around into a contender. Keep that in mind.

Somehow, people have been fooled into believing that Peyton Manning shouldered his team and took ‘em to the Superbowl. WRONG.

If it were not for the Colts Defense, then the Colts would not have been Superbowl Champions. You can pull up whatever number you want, but I’m using my eyes and cable television set.

BustaNut: DJ Shockley looked terrible. He looked no better than last year. He gets overexcited and overthrows almost every pass he attempts. He was throwing off target WITHOUT the defense putting on heavy pressure. Hell, he was bouncing off his own linemen like a red and black pinball. 1st, 2nd, or 3rd string DJ Shockley is just not a good professional quarterback. He’s got a lot of the skills you cannot teach, though. Although, he is an inefficient scrambler, (poor timing and poor angles) he is lightning fast with a powerful laser pass arm. He might have the ability to start, but in one year’s time, I haven’t seen any improvement. I think it’ll be another year or two before he makes 2nd string, if he can stay in the league long enough.

One more thing, BustaNut.

Dont forget about the Rams Superbowl title and their MEDIOCRE defense that year.

The Falcons first preseason game is a prelude of things to come. The Falcons got blasted by the Jets over the weekend because they dont have enough talent to compete. With the Falcons main ConVick gone, the Falcons talent level is severely depleted. Without Vick to scramble around, roll out and make his signature throws, the Falcons are completely devoid of their competitiveness. Too bad the Mike Vick couldnt have worked out a plea deal the way Jamaal Lewis did with the Ravens. Jamaal Lewis pleaded guilty and served his 4-month jail sentence during the off-season when Lewis got in trouble with the Feds. When the season started, Jamaal Lewis was suited up and was ready to play with the Ravens. Its unfortunate that that Satanic liar (Mike Vick) must continue to maintain his innocense while Vick misses valuable reps in training camp. If Vick had only come clean, been truthful and admitted to being the ringleader in a dogfighting scandal, the Feds would have gone extremely light on him and would have probably given Mike Vick a similar deal to what Jammal Lewis got and Vick probably would have served about four months in prison during the off-season while keeping his job as first string qb for the Falcons. Vick would have been under center when the season kicks off in September. Vick is nothing more than a Satanic liar and will serve six years in jail for his stupidity and his beligerance and blasphemy.

But folks, who the heck are the AJC media types and company line quoters fooling. These guys are screwed. The team is trying to save face but to a man they know. Why jeopardize the end of Crumps, Dunn, Horn, Abraham, Brooking and Gandys careers to please PETA. Those guys need to storm Blanks office and tell them to get Vick in here now. They can deal with the few negative folks. Those boos will turn to cheers real fast under Petrino’s system. Any ruling by the NFL before this thing goes to trial will prohibit Vick receiving a fair trail because it will prejudice any jury anyhow. If those guys are real leaders and I know Horn is, they will get MV’s back. Contrary to the media hype, and it will be on display at the GA Dome all season. he already has the FANS support. Most of the negative post are a hand full of guys who already hated Vick any way. This is bull hockey and Vick should be in camp prearing for opening day.

CLYDEVIXON, you appear to be a person influenced more by emotion, and possibly other issues, rather than any form of logic. First, anyone that judges a teams regular season potential based on one preseason gm is lacking in intelligent football judgement. Using your illogical reasoning, if you go by the Colts preseason results, there’s absolutely no reason the Colts should have won more than 3-4gms, let alone the SB.

A person pleads not guilty and you automatically annoint him as a “Satanic lier”. What about your president, George Bush? Look at the number of lies he’s told in order to start a war so he could invade Iraq and take control of their oil fields. To all the morons, every now and then a team like the St Louis Rams can win without a dominant D or the Colts last year (great D in playoffs though), but you have to be brain dead if you think anything but DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS…Most Super Bowls out of the 41 or so played the winning team had a top 5 defense, many of them had the #1 defense…so, you can say all a team needs is a Peyton Manning, but you’d be dead wrong 9 times out of 10….by the way, the Colts won’t win it this year because of a bad D

To all the misguided Vick nutsack huggers, the most needed skill of a quarterback is not his running ability, Dan Marino is a great QB but couldn’t outrun my middle aged a$$. A QB needs to be smart and make good decisions, Vick has proven He’s not adept at that. Mike Vick is a great athlete and a below average QB..sad but true…many blacks like him because many blacks like the rebellious black figure, someone who is clearly not an Uncle Tom. Vick is “keepin’ it real”…He’s keepin’ it “REAL STUPID”.

Vick will make a plea. Possibly 3mths/most likely probation. The Falcons will release him. He will lose alot of endorsement money and salary. He will sign with another team in 2008. I predict the Bucs, or Panthers and they will beat up on the Falcons for the next 5 yrs.

It’s truly a sad day for Mike Vick. He has painted himself into a corner with no way out. His lies have come home to roost. His “crew” has nothing to loose, but he has lost any credibility he might have, along with his career. How could he trust these lifelong “friends” not to roll over on him? If he is innocent why would are his attorneys working on a plea deal? I really think Mike Vick should have hired a “handler” to make his decisions for him, since he obviously is unable to make discerning, rational decisions for himself. Truly sad.

Not so Black!! - How do you explain the H. Rap Brown/Jamil Al-Amin trial here a few years?

Seems like he was arrested, tried, and convicted in a predominantly black city with a predominantly black government, a predominantly black judicial system, not to mention a predominantly black jury pool? How did the “Machine” pull that one off?

Could it be like you said, all blacks are not the same? Maybe there are some more interested in justice over letting a murderer walk just to spite “whitey”?

Dear Not so Black!!

Do you want to know why many whites believe that all blacks think the same? Because of people like you, that’s why.

First you claim that all blacks don’t think alike; that they all don’t follow Jesse Jackson; that they all didn’t think OJ was innocent, etc, etc. Then you turn right around and blame some mystical “Machine” for every legal problem every black has ever experienced. Talk about mob mentality.

Keep up the good work perpetuating stereotypes. What an idiot.

Vick would like to plead out but the government isn’t through charging him yet. Next month, Virginia will be bringing an indictment against him. Heard anything about Davon Boddie? Well, he’s talking to the feds about some of Vick’s other business deals. You notice he’s not on the dogfighting indictment but he was certainly there for all of it. Vick is looking at a very long stretch in prison. NFL? Forget that! He has ruined himself and will never fumble on a National Football League field again. Also, the Falcons are looking to get some money back from him. Ookie is so done! Blame the white man if you want to but the person responsible is Mike (Con) Vick.

I heard a rumor on 680 that Vick only has like $4 mil in the bank and has supposedly been all over town trying to borrow money.

He got something around a $20 mil roster bonus either last year or in ‘05. How the hell does he have so little money?

I guess those 86 cars he has probably took a chunk out of the bank account.

After his legal fees, and with no endorsements, he’s going to be broke. Look for a Vick-Pacman tag team on TNA after Vick serves his time.

Under RICO, the feds will confiscate everything they deem to be acquired by ill-gotten gains. But the approach the feds have used historically is the IRS —- and they can be a bear.

The only hope Vick has of salvaging any semblance of an NFL career is to cop a plea, serve a brief sentence, demonstrate to the league that he can act as a responsible member of society upon release and petition the league for re-admission. He’s going to have to show the league that he can contribute more to the community than a liquor store on Camp Creek Parkway.

I wonder what the alien race in the epsilon 3 galaxy is thinking of the way we humans have digressed. We are all so stupid. Holding on to our ignorant stereotypes. Beliefs like black men are atheletes not mentally capable of leadership roles, that blacks are self destructive, that all whites are racist, or white men can’t jump. I mean I’ve heard it all and it really makes you wonder where is this world headed. Vick is an embarassment. That’s become increasingly obvious, but damn to you take the man out in the woods and just hang him. I know some of you would like to do just that. This has nothing to do with animal abuse. There is a very good chance that Vick will be banned for life from the NFL, not for dogfighting but for gambling. Many years ago, Paul Hornung and Alex Karras were suspended indefinitely by Pete Rozelle for gambling. Those suspensions wound up lasting one year. Well, give Vick a one year suspension, is that what you are thinking? Better think again! Neither Hornung nor Karras were charged with any crime. Vick has been charged with two federal felonies and another indictment is about to come down. This one relates to Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations statutes (RICO). In other words Organized Crime. If that allegation is made and it relates to gambling, which it does, Vick will never play in the NFL again. He’s been very reticent to admit culpability and it is costing him his future. He doesn’t want to go to jail, who does, but his stalling is only allowing the government more time to expand and solidify its case. Mike Vick wants to return to his career in the NFL but that is an unrealistic goal. If he pleads out to gambling, or if he toughs it out and is found guilty, his career is over. While he considers all this the government prosecutors continue to dig and put the whole story together. The more time they have to look around the worse it’s going to become. What Vick needs to do now is not compound his errors anymore. Take responsibility and do the time since he did do the crime(s). By acting now Vick could save something more precious than any rushing record or possible Super Bowl appearance-his life.

Instead, what is really happening, is we want to see criminals punished for the crimes.

You are still talking out of both sides of your mouth.

You are all for justice; but its okay to root for black criminals because the “Machine” is after them.

Presumably this “Machine” of yours is the American criminal justice system, the press, and public opinion all conspiring together? Was this the same “Machine” that went after the white Duke lacrosse players? I seem to recall that the DA, the press, and a large segment of the public had them tried and convicted from day one.

Fair? No. But,that is life. Vick the millionaire sports superstar is facing no more, no less of a “Machine” than that bunch of nobody college boys.

Don’t invite nut case prostitutes to your parties, choose your entourage carefully, obey the law, and just maybe you won’t ever have to face the “Machine” be ye black or white.

A person who can drown, electrocute, or hang a dog, is a sociopathic thrill-killer. They did these executions for enjoyment. They enjoyed playing God; having complete control over life/death of something considered beneath them. Serial killers tend to thrill-kill animals before graduating to humans. Money and fame do not prevent psychosis. Michael Vick should be imprisoned. The key should be thrown away. An animal so viscious deserves no place in a civilized society. Public safety is at issue; next, he’ll kill a human being…

Many folks seem to think Vick is going to do a year in prison and then resume his NFL career. It’s not going to happen. Judge Hudson has already said there are aggravating elements to this case. Know what that means? More time in prison! If Vick doesn’t plead now, the government will bring on the RICO violations and Vick will be looking at twenty years, or more, of prison time. I think he will hold out and will expose himself to a very long time in prison. I sure hope so. Also, the Surry County authorities say they are going to prosecute him on the dog-related charges. The federal government is looking into a narcotics operation funded by Vick. The IRS is investigating his restaurant to determine if it was being used to launder monies. Vick is going to be in prison a long time and his NFL career ended while Matt Schaub tried to bring the Falcons back against the Eagles, after Vick, as usual, had put them in a tremendous hole. So long Sucker!

NASTYCARfan: Vick made some bad choices in life and might well be guilty of every charge in the book! But for now let an indictment be an indictment and not a conviction. All Bird Brain Nation fans need to also understand that the reason why his co-defendant’s bailed out is because two of them were staring at strike two and little doubt that the prosecuting team was constantly reminded them of that fact. Put it like this: his co-defendants may not have the compelling evidence that most people think they do. Remember Ray Lewis. When he took his plea, prosecution sure thought they had compelling evidence from him that his co-defendant were guilty of murder. Didn’t QUITE work out that way. And in this case, there is the possibilty that the defense will be able to discredit both the informants and the ex-codefendants. CREDIBLE EVIDENCE, NOT INDICTMENTS LEAD TO CONVICTIONS!

Because champion-minded sports figures (esp. those who’ve been pro for more than a few years) DO NOT WANT TO COME TO ATLANTA! A look at some of these racially charged blogs should tell you why Reggie White, Brett Farve, Derek Jeter, Albert Pujols, Shaq, Kobe and others who have been central figures on championship teams did not/would not/ will never come to Atlanta. Some say Mr. Blank will keep Vick on the payroll no matter what. Wrong! Mr. Blank is going to cut him and he won’t care about the way it effedts the payroll. Here’s why, Mr. blank is stunned, confused and broken-hearted to learn that commandant vick ran a concentration camp. Those who were racalcitrant, reluctant or plain ujnable to get a passing grade from the Commandant received the final solution. The final solution is something very near Mr. Blank’s heart. Those exhibiting the mentality and the lack of respect for life that it takes to electocute, drown, hang, beat to death and to otherwise wantonly kill innocents will not work for Mr. Blank in any capacity. He’s familiar with the sorts who can engage in these horrible activities and the pass them off as not being too bad. It will not work. Mr. Blank is going to fire Vick and get him off his property, regardless of what the financial ramifications may be. Goebbels, Mengele and all the others who sacrificed six million Jewish lives and buried the corpses in mass graves ,,with bulldozers started out with cruel acts to animals. Mike Vick should be a lesson for everyone, I always had an uneasy feeling about Michael Vick. This is why: PROVERBS 18:12 BEFORE HIS DOWNFALL A MANS HEART IS PROUD BUT HUMILITY COMES BEFORE HONOR. Instead of some being gleeful of another mans fall we all ought to pray for the man that He can turn his life around. I noticed a lot of pride and arrogance when Mike Vick would speak and I take no glee in his downfall, whether he was talking about himself being Superman or how people would always love him, whatever it was, I always detected a goodly supply of pride and more so than just a confidence that came from his God given abilities. My prayer for Mike is that He finds his way and He does what we all should do with our lives which is glorify God because glory does not belong to men but to God.

Reverend, pride goeth before a fall. Very appropriate and cogent comment. This is a fall of unprecedented dimensions. I hope Vick will seek forgiveness from the Lord.

Man…what in the the world will all of the sports writers and Vick haters do now? I mean who will they blame all of the Falcons losses on since Vick is gone? I’m sure it won’t be Joey, let’s wait and see how many excuses all of you will give this guy for not winning.
