Thank goodness it’s over

No surprises here. The Falcons looked just as sorry as they have for weeks, especially given the fact they played against the Eagles’ second string.

Mora looked more pumped about plays in this game than he has all season. Too bad that enthusiasm doesn’t carry over to his team.

I don’t know what can be done to make this team better next year, unless Blank can buy it a big heart transplant.

The one thing I do know is that ticket prices better not be increased even with the renovations to the Dome.

Have a happy and safe New Year everyone.

MEXICO QUIT AGAIN

By thank god its over

December 31, 2006 07:21 PM | Link to this

why do we have midgets like rossom on this team? This team lacks physicality on offense and on defense. Man, I guarantee 100% that if vick had a decent 0-line, some receivers that would actually TRY to catch a ball, and a semi-intelligent coaching staff, he would win. How can people like titothebear and all these other vick bashers not see that?? And a defense that absolutely BLOWS doesn’t help. Can’t wait to see what Blank’s gonna do now. BYE MORA BYE KNAPP. Good riddance.

You are playing for your jobs & your coach’s jobs against a 3rd string quarterback against a team playing not to get hurt. 3rd string QB has a career night & you can’t cash in on the goal time. What a complete bunch of gutless, heartless, losers. Fire them all. Welcome to the past.

I wanted to be one of the first to post on this blog to all of the Vick haters out there. Now, you can see how badly coached and how bad our defense is. We lost to a 3rd string qb and to everyone thinking Schaub would have been the answer, what’s up with the interception and then falling over his own leg in the redzone on 3rd down?? Then an overthrown pass!

You people hating vick are just idiots. The Falcons would be 4-12 in each of it’s last 3 seasons with no Vick.

Vick record: 38-27-1 Without Vick: 9-21

Get a life and learn football and stop blaming Vick when he is out there busting his butt every game.

Schaub lovers, please get a life!

By Gamblin' Jack

December 31, 2006 07:35 PM | Link to this

Everyone blames Vick and he is not without fault.

BUT this game made two things very clear: (1) Our coaches are horrible and (2) our personnel provided by McKay and Blank are horrible. Our coaches can not manage to outcoach a guy play backups??!?!?!?!?!?! WTF!!!!!! The personnel provided to this team by Blank and McKay are not good enough to beat backups on the freaking eagles who were once a 5-6 team?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Wow… Schaub looked pedestrian against the Eagles THIRD STRING DEFENSE.

Who didn’t see that one coming?

Did anyone else pick up on Aikman calling out Greg Knapp for not only his crappy playcalling, but in the way Knapp designs his offensive plays, having two recievers occupy the same space?

Yeah, it’s all Vick’s fault. Looks like Matt Schuab can overthrow the ball and throw into traffic just as well as the next guy.

He should have had TWO drive killing picks today. Yeah, looks like the Great White Hype is **so much smarter than the black guy.

Whatever things can you racists throw out their, now?

Looks like Matt Schaub, cannot, once again, win a winnable football game. He’s now 0 fer 5.

Looks like Matt Fraud is what I’ve said he is all along… The NEXT Doug Johnson.

Against the Eagle’s THIRD STRING DEFENSE!

Choke on that, Schaub Lovers!

Philly’s third team qb throttles us and that is pitiful. We don’t need a overhaul, we need a new engine, body, wheels and anything else you can think of. No heart, no coaching and players making the same mistakes. There is no will to win and it is clear it is time for many changes. McKay, Mora, and then some players neeed to be gone. There are problems that must be done away with. Lets swallow our pride and say we screwed up and lets start back over with a new plan.

OK, the speculation over who’ll coach this team begins. Mora should and will go, no question. The problem is that this isn’t the best year to have to search for a new coach. A proven winner? Doubt it. Even if, let’s say, Jimmy Johnson wanted to return to caoching, do you really think he’d want Arthur Blank standing over his shoulder? No, and neither would any other proven head coach. They don’t have to put up with that, and they won’t. A college coach? Not usually a good move . For every Dick Vermeil, there are ten failures. Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier,Pete Carroll, and others all failed. Pro football’s a different animal. A Great assistant? No choice but to go for that. It’s a crapshoot- you never know what kind of head coach a coordinator will be until he gets a chance. Look at the Falcons’ sorry history- Norb Hecker was an assisatant of Vince Lombardi- and bombed. Marion Cambell was one of the best defensive coordinator around- and a crummy head coach. Jerry Glanville- what an idiot. If the Falcons go that route, Rex Ryan of Baltmore would be a great choice. He knows defense, and might be able to hire a good offensive coordinator.

What a shock!!! This game made it clear what the problems are: (1) coaches who are not on the same level with the rest of the coaches and (2) personnel provided by the GM which is not good enough to beat the second and third string of the eagles.

but you all continue to focus all the attention on Mr. Vick. that is pretty sick. 38-28-1 with vick since he was drafted. vick went 27-10-1 at one point.. vick had this team at 6-2 last year and 5-2 this year. The poor coaching (i.e. the inability to make adjustments, the inability to game plan, the lack of motivational ability, the inability to determine proper personnel groupings for given situations) has taken its toll in each of the past two seasons.

Vick lovers, are you forgetting something? What did Vick do against this same 2nd & 3rd string today? Almost get a safety throwing from his back. Two long passes that should have been intercepted and one so late in getting to Jenkins in the endzone that the CB was able to catch up and strip him of it. He didn’t play any better and remember he is the savior, right? Keep it real, as your hero says.

He has all the talent, but no QB/team leadership. Why wasn’t he (for that matter all the falcon players) on the sidelines pulling for their team - because this isn’t a team. He was shaking his head on the bench because he hurt his foot and knows he won’t be able to rap tonight back in the hood.

I saw Schuab do more in that 4th quarter than ive seen out of Vick all year!! He led 2 drives down the field in the last minutes of a game and put us in scoring position. We didnt score because it didnt seem like we really wanted to win the game. The leg thing was a accident, ive seen vick trip on his own feet 2. and thank God he did because we would of only screwed ourselves by winning this game! (#10 pick compared to #20) look at the standings.
I say bring Reeves back…get a power back to compliment dunn or norwood. Find a way to draft Calvin Johnson!
I wish wed trade vick to the raiders and move up in the draft! But since thats not gonna happen because of all the $$ involved…we need a coach who uses Vick as a “situational qb” Any play thats a obvious passing situation…we should of put schuab in the game! I guarntee with that approach we wouldnt be outside the playoffs right now!!!

I’ve been involved in football, and a fan, my whole life. Vick is a waste at QB. As a running back, or wide receiver, he’d be great. But at QB, he is only mediocre, at best. Man, I moved to Tampa from Atlanta 5 years ago and remain a Falcons fan…but after reading the stuff on this blog, I must say that I do not want to associate myself with most of you who call yourselfs Falcons fans. Man, what a bunch of racists, ignorant, and idiotic morons most of you are. Vick did not quit on the team. He got hurt. And Vick is a great player. Anyone who does not think so is an idiot. Schaub is good, but not in Vick’s class…not yet, anyway. I am sure Tampa Bay would love to have Vick..any day. Mora has buried himself with his comments and actions. He is too close to his players…and does not impress me as a highly intelligent (in football sense) coach. The offensive schemes are predictable and unchallenging…and the defense played hurt all year. The Falsons need another outstanding corner and, perhaps, more help at the safety positions…and a new defensive coodinator…for sure. Lots of issues on the offensive side of the ball that I think a new and intelligent coach can improve upon. This was not the same team that played the first 5 games of the year. Something happened…other than the injuries…and I think most of it has to ride on the shoulders of the head coach…which I think will not be the head coach by the end of next week.

The issue with this team is more mental and emotional than anything else, which points to coaching, although I believe the receivers almost single handedly lost the season for the team with so many key drops, even for TD’s. I can name 10 other coaching staffs in the league I’d rather have. Would you rather have the Panthers staff? What about the almost fired Titans staff? You betcha! When you start to compare who we have to other team staffs, you start to realize a significant difference. Also, I’m sick of Dunn complaining about carries. He has been ineffective in the last 10 games and you can only have so many 1st and 2nd downs for almost no gain. Even today, you could see they ran to try to appease Dunn and what happened? He went no where. I’d play Norwood more, his legs are faster and he’s just quicker. In the end, we’re not a Super Bowl team, but the coaches have got to go.

I thought this was a hilarious game. I wish they would have just muted the announcers and played the Benny Hill theme music in the background. The Falcons obviouly didn’t watch the Chick-Fil-A Bowl last night or they would have seen what heart is. YOU GUYS GOT YOUR ASSES WHIPPED, BY A BUNCH OF GOTDAM 3RD STRING NERDS. NERDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where do I start? QB - I don’t blame Vick for not finsihing the game, when your receivers can’t catch and the o-line won’t blok and you are eating dirt every play. Shaub looked decent and we need to trade him and get a high draft pick for him. Running backs looked good (ONLY BRIGHT SPOT). O-LINE you can’t block for anyone and you still hold every play. How many of our 10+ yard gains got whiped out because of holding on #72. Receivers, well, you did have some good catches finally but you still can’t get open and you been dropping passes all year. Our D-Line and LB’s are pretty good except the fact that we way overpay for Abraham and Hurtwell to be worthless. Our safeties are horrible (especially Crocker) and our All-Pro Corner MEAngelo is too busy running his mouth while getting burnt like toast. BYE BYE MORAN, BYE BYE KNAPP AND BYE BYE DONATELL. They were saying that they shouldn’t fire Mora unless they have somebody lined up. Hell, anyone can coach better than that. GOOOOOOO DAWGS!!!!! BOOOOOO FALCONS!!!!! LOSERS

I think it is time for us all to give the bird to Vick, just as he did the fans a few weeks ago. I’d much rather it be a waiving bird, as in “Bye Bye, Mr. Vick!” You are supposed to be the leader, and since the league is learning to defend you, you only know how to lose.

BirdDawg answer me this…

Was Vick $8 million better today than Schaub?

No question that Vick’s skill set opens things up because of the threat of the run. There are things, however, that Schaub does better than Vick. Did you see that gorgeous touch pass to Norwood on the sideline or the ball down the middle that he fit between three DBs? Vick doesn’t even attempt either of those throws- he holds the ball and probably takes off. On the flip side he doesn’t attempt the pass that was picked either. Schaub will never be able to put up the rushing yards Vick does, but he is somewhat mobile and gains yards when he runs since the D doesn’t expect him to. And BTW, it’s completely unfair to compare the performance of a backup coming in cold to the starter who gets all the first team reps during the week. I’ve never said this before but watching the way Schaub moves around keeping his eyes downfield, taking into consideration his age and longevity vs. Vick’s (especially since we’re getting new coaches-Vick has at most 3-4 good years left in those legs) I would say that for two first round picks I would trade him. Think about it: Schaub for $8 m less per year. That would buy you a stud left tackle and guard. C’mon dude it just makes sense. Not that it would ever happen since Artie is in awe of Vick…

This should give everyone the incentive to quit wasting hard earned money supporting professional athletics. Where is the return on your investment? I say unto thee jocksniffers, invest in your own lives and bank accounts because these high paid thug athletes (at your expense)do not give one cent about any one of you. I quit all pro sports financial support when baseball went on strike 14 years ago and have saved enough money to buy 3 rental properties.

Dainty Dave, if you are going to be scared and intimidated by the Falcon coach next year—whoever it is—please don’t show up again on the postgame show.

Move Blank and the entire organization to Birmingham and get a real team here. Blank should’ve never paid so much and tied Vick down for so long. Get an offensive line with some beef, get a decent sized running back, find a pocket passer. Fire Mora for having such poor second half seasons.

I hate the falcons. Our 1st string defense/offense has no chance against 3rd string Eagles?!!?!?!?! Jeff Garcia would have thrown for 600 yds and 10 tds. Hilarious. I’m a Vick homer fan but Schaub WILL lead a team into the playoffs in the near future. Hopefully it’s not tampa. Our defense sucks. Horrible. Burned by baskett or whatever the hell his name is. AJ Feely for christ’s sake?!?!?!?! I’m glad we lost-least we’ll get a better draft pick. Hey-maybe another reciever?!!? HAR HAR. Maybe we’ll finally draft georgia players but get all of their crap recievers.

You Vick supporters are unbelieveable! It’s not that we want Schaub….my GOD, get rid of both of them!!!!! Neither are NFL Quarterbacks that are going to take you to the next level. If you believe that, you guys are minor league and always will be. Neither will be a consistent winner. Vick is nothing more than an extension of a modern day Kordell Stewart, and you see how long he lasted. Schaub has no more potential than a Chris Miller! The supporting staff and Coaches are no better. You Falcon fans that cannot realize this deserve a Jerry Glanville. Oh yeah, might as well bring back ole “Too Legit To Quit” as well. First of all the trade Mike Vick talk is just stupid. Tell me what did Matt Schaub do in today’s game that was so special. The truth of the matter is that the falcons are just a poorly coached team. Its quite a contrast watching the coaching of other teams. Gregg Knapp is horrible play caller and it shows week in and week out. For all you guys that want to blame Vick for everything explain to me why Knapp continues to run the smallest running back in the NFL on short yardage plays and not the fullback. Tell me why the falcons could not stop the same running play that the panthers ran last week. Tell why Jason Webster continues to start at cornerback when he plays 10 yards off every wide receiver in the league and still gets beat deep.

THE PROBLEM WITH THE FALCONS IS COACHING NOT 1 PLAYER just look at the Eagles even without McNabb the Eagles are still playing good football beacause they are a well coached TEAM.

Whose brilliant idea was it to resign the o-line to contract extensions? They sucked!! There was no pocket…against backups. A truly disappointing end to a miserable season. The Falcons once again give us hope early in the season, only to fall apart in the second half. Whoever handles their conditioning should be shot. How many injuries have we had in the last 2 years? Greg Knapp, when Mr. Obvious (Joe Theisman) says your playcalling sucks its time to go. If Mora has any chance of staying he’d better be on the phone to Blank tonight offering up the heads of most of his coaching staff. You can be loyal to Knapp and be unemployed or you can see what everyone else does…HE SUCKS.

The team needs a new O-Line. Why extend McClure and Weiner? Forney? Is Omiyale ready to play? There had better be some serious changes next season or we’ll get the same results.

Give me Southern owners (black & white) who understand our love of football. Hire Vince Dooley, Pat Dye, Bobby Bowden, Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Troy Aikman, and ESPN’s Mortensen as advisors/management. Hire Tony Dungy or Nick Saban as head coach. How can you anyone honestly say that Schaub played horrible? So he tripped once and threw a bad pick… We see that every week from good ole #7. Except when #7 trips the ball usually goes flying out.

Schaub looked much more poised and the receivers could run actual routes and concentrate on catching instead of the sandlot $h1t that u see with #7 in there.

Say what you want about schaub but vick played against those same 2nd-3rd stringers. What did he do? He struggled and got injured (quit) on his teammates and coaches again. Must be nice to have a 100 million dollar security blanket.

I cringe to think that we are going to lose Schaub for probably only a late first rounder/2nd rounder and be stuck with this thug.

The trade in 2001 Vick for tomlinson will go down as one of the all time worst in any sport when all is said and done. Mark my words….

MUST GO: Vick (I wish), Dunn, Rossum, Hartwell, Webster, Crocker, Gandy, Lehr

Needs: CB, Power RB, LT, G, FS, Backup QB, Possession Receiver

-Move Brooking to MLB and re-sign D. Williams to play WLB -Give Jimmy Williams a shot at FS in camp

This is what the Falcons need to do if they want to win the super bowl. Trade vick to the Raiders for the 1st pick. See if they’ll take Jenkins or White for one of their best offensive linemen. Give Schaub the job and draft Calvin Johnson.

I give up on vick. I’ve decided he’s just a running back with a very strong, yet inaccurate, arm.

Unfortunately, there are so many problems facing the Falcons, that it appears a complete overhaul will be necessary to bring about a meaningful change. I believe, however, that changing the head coach is not necessarily the wisest path to take —- it hasn’t worked too well over the past 40 years. And, regardless of who you get, the problem of trying to find an offensive scheme compatible with Vick’s ability to implement, will require a greater mind that has been revealed up to this point. AND, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WANT THE AGGRAVATION AND MISERY OF WORKING WITH BLANK, MCKAY AND VICK?

For all you Vick haters out there, please just admit it: your issue is really with african americans playing QB in the NFL. I have read some of this most igorant comments in my life on this blog. Vick’s a quitter? How about the stupid bootleg call that got him hurt in the 1st place. Worse the play was not really sucessful all afternoon. Why even call that? Also, ya’ll got a chance to see Schaub play today. Was anyone out there impressed? He throws 1 redzone pick, then trips over his feet the next time he got there, with the game on the line. I am not even going to mention the fact the he was competing against back-ups. The dude can catch and run in short yardage situations. Hopefully we’ll get good comp. picks for Schaub and use them wisely. What a joke. If you think this loss was bad don’t forget the Carolina loss. We gave Weinke his second career win and they ran the ball down our throats. Get rid of Hurtwell. Start Brooking in the middle. I have read these boards and the comments of those of us who route for the Falcons all year, and managed not to post. But after reading BirdDawgs assessment of Shaub I feel inclined to post this.

M. Schaub 15/21 175 M. Vick 8/14 81

Both played against backups with the exception of Vick on the first drive. Both had 1 interception. Shaub Threw a 4th quarter TD… something Vick hasn’t done in over a year. How can a starting qb in the NFL not throw a 4th quarter td all year long.

And yet for some reason you want to put this man on a pedestal. And before you reach for your old racism flag, I am a person of color who just calls things how I see them.

Vick has been playing in the every game this year and “should have” made progress by now, instead we finish 2-6 over the last half of the season.

Shaub has been on the sideline all year and still comes in and plays lights out better than Vick.

All this is for naught, since we arent the ones who make the decisions for this team.

The offensive thought must have been to develop o-line speed to block for a mobile QB. Mobile QBs and fast o-lines just don’t work. Pocket passer, great o-line, and franchise RB with an above average defense has always been the recipe for success. Falcons set themselves back 5-8 years thinking they could reinvent the recipe for football success. I’d like to see one team using the Falcon model that has been successful.

i hope we get a good draft pick this year though. the kind of draft pick that will bring us to a 27-10-1 record. hopefully though blank will not fire whoever the next coach is about three years from now, thereby leaving us 6 years from now scratching our heads as to why the team was good enough to go 27-10-1, start one season 6-2, the next season 5-2 only to be followed by consecutive 2-6 and 2-7 collapses.

I find it interesting that a game that Jim Mora absolutely, positively needed to win to save his job, he was unable to rally the troops and get it done. I find it equally interesting that the Falcons lost to the Eagles second team players who were clearly coached up. Can we agree that the Falcons were not coached up? Jim Mora may be a good guy, but he has proven that he is not an NFL caliber head coach. Not yet at least. Greg Knapp may have some good plays in his play book, but he has a ton of bone headed plays as well. It is time to pull the plug and declare this regime dead. Let us welcome in 2007 with a new coaching staff. Cheers!

HAHA have fun watching Shaub at the dome if vick ever gets traded. You’ll be left wishing mv7 never left. You’ll be left wondering: my, why is it that our quarterback always seems to get sacked? Why is it that our receiver can’t catch ball? Why does the coaching staff call a fake option play on 3 and 25? And then the epiphany: OHH, if we had just gotten some 0-line, some receivers, and canned Mora and co., Vick would be exciting and a winner! But whatever. I’ll be the first one laughing if this dumb cowtown ever decides to trade vick.

Vick completely lacks leadership quality. Leadership quality is needed at the QB position and our starter lacks it. Moreover, Vick lacks a coach that can teach him that leadership. Shaub may or may not be the answer, we’ll never know given the 10 yr K Vick has, a K that he will most likely not fulfill due to injury or an outright benching. The birds can either play a winner or play the guy that we signed for too long and for too much money. To think, we could have drafted Tomlinson instead of this black hype masquerading as a QB that can master little more than a highschool playbook. And acts like he’s still in hs.

I’m torn on this one because I think alot of these primadonna thugs we have on the team (Hall, Vick) could really benefit from a no nonsense in your face screamer disciplinarion type of coach like a Parcells, But I am not really sure who is available, or even interested that would be much of an improvement.

I will tell you this much. You so called fans are the worst. All you want to do is blame Vick for this teams problems. The bottom line is, the defense has holes in it, it’s severely under-sized, and Vick needs a real O-Line and he needs more weapons. Of course, if Falcons had beaten the Eagles, Eagles would’ve used the excuse that they played their 2nd string players -which is nonsense. I was at the game, there were many starters on the Eagles offense as well as their defense still playing. And not to get off topic, but the Eagles won’t go far in the playoffs anyhow. But back to the Falcons, first things first, get rid of Mora & Co, or get rid of Donnatell & Knapp. Vick is NOT the problem here.

By Ronny

December 31, 2006 08:44 PM | Link to this

The problem’s neither Vick nor Schaub. It’s coaching. And a lack of personnel in some key areas. A lack that prohibited the Falcons from keeping up with the Eagles’ second and third stringers. When either quarterback gets PROTECTION they’re both fine. But let’s get away from the “all that talent” garbage— the Falcon’s simply don’t have “ALL THAT TALENT”— SO FORGET THAT ARGUMENT. Under a new coaching regime, a primary item of business will be to revamp the offensive line, and get some BIG, MOBILE guys in there who can both protect and run-block. They’re out there, it’ll just take some time to find them, and coach ‘em up. Alex Gibbs’ philosophy hasn’t worked here. But that just scratches the surface, really. As for coaching— it’s a tough call. If Arthur can’t pull off a miracle and land Bill Cowher— he just has to dig deeper. I would suggest he and McKay look at Kirk Ferentz at Iowa. He’s put together good teams in Iowa City. Been there eight years. And more importantly, he has PRO EXPERIENCE, and good experience at that. He was ASSISTANT HEAD COACH AT BALTIMORE. And was also the OFFENSIVE LINE COACH! Do an internet search, and look at his bio. IMPRESSIVE!

I don’t like Vick Mora or Schaub I guess I am racist against everyone. I do think it falls on the coaches the most though because they never installed an offense for the guy who they knew would be Qb. It will have to be an unstobborn coach who comes in and designed for Vick then he will be awsome. Until then????? I told the guy next to me at half-time that Vick wanted to get out of that game. If that was the case or not I don’t know, I am not in that mans body. It looked like a better rythme with Schuab, but then again it is because the offense better suits him. Not to say he is a better QB but maybe for that system. That being said, we KNOW Vick will be here and Mora and Schuab won’t so use an offense that suits Vick!

First let me say wow! I was truly hopeful that the falcons could pull off a win for their coach and for some of their own behinds.
Secondly, let me throw a a word of caution. I would only fire this coaching staff if there was a better than proven commodity out there. My reason for saying this is because of two main reasons. Our personnel right now is built around Mike Vick. Bringing in a whole new system means once again our star qb will have to learn a whole new way of doing things. We can’t keep stunting his growth by constant change. That dont mean to keep Knapp but dont bring in a system too far from what we have now. The other big point is this, I am a Browns fan and I remember when the fans wanted Bellicheck and crew gone. Now when I look back at it….Bellicheck has 3 trophys now. Saban who was on his staff won an SEC title and contended for national championship. Kirk ferentz is always a candidate to be a new head coach and Pat Hill has done wonders too. Mora is a bright coach. Knapp is too but dont trusts his number one weapon. Donatell is very serviceable. Done an excellent job at hiding most of our defensive deficiencies. Overall, I wouldnt fire the coaching staff unless I can bring in a proven commodity not a hopeful commodity.

the offense does not need to be reinvented for vick. get a power running back. we are going to have a high draft pick. wouldn’t adrian peterson from oklahoma look awesome in that backfield. if we get ourselves a big power back like peterson and pound the heck out of him and then keep norwood as the change of pace guy and then have very vanilla offense based upon power running, screen passes to norwood & griffith, play action fakes, chuck it deep, this offense will be much better. everyone keeps saying that the offense needs to be reinvented for vick but that is simply not true. all we need is a boring offensive traditional offense where we pound the run and then have the passing game predicated upon the running game sucking the defense into the middle of the field and up to the line of scrimmage. That kind of offense worked pretty well for the falcons and reeves in 1998 where jamal pounded the run and sucked the defense into the middle of the field and up to the line of scrimmage, thereby allowing chandler to have success chucking the ball deep. that kind of boring offense also worked pretty well with vick and reeves when they were allowed to play with and coach with one another

Did you guys see the time number 8 got in the pocket. He looked good until Philly put the heat on him. I keep telling y’all we will know the real number 8 until he get his clock cleaned. Give Vick that time in the pocket, and he would have burn them today.

The 49ers played a great game against the Broncos - which is the game I had to watch because I am in a part of the country, which did not carry the Eagle - Falcon game. The 49ers did not have any more to play for than the Falcons, but they finished the season on an up note. They had to play against the Bronco’s very best, because it was a must win for Denver.

I thought the Falcons would have trouble against the Eagles playing their best players - Andy’s staff is one of the league’s best - we were some what over matched coaching wise - our staff is not as bad as the fans think, but they don’t match up, against a Jim Johnson coached defense and Andy Reed’s offensive coaches.

How a team playing against 2nd teamer loses a game with so many jobs on the line is hard to explain. When you go into the off season, like the 49ers and the Falcon are out of the play offs, you want your team to build off of a win, so they enter the off season on a positive note.

I think our owners is a winner, but has probably made some mistakes, I understand when he fired Dan Reeves, a new owner want his own coach, but he probably didn’t realize it at the time, the odds were against him replacing Dan with someone who was better than Dan was a long shot.

You and I hope that the young coach gets better with experience - it does not look like that has happened. I think all of us were deceived at the Falcon’s success in Jim’s first year.

In Dan’s last year Wade Philips coached a pathetic defenses, but I assure you it was not Wads’s fault he was devestated by injuries plus Dan’s offense without Michael couldn’t control the clock and Wade’s injuried riddle defenses just had to play too many plays.

Right now I will bet you will seeing Wade Phillips coach one of the leagues very best defenses in the Super Bowl in Miami. Wade has better defensive players and he has an offense witch will ontrol the ball and the clock.

I don’t hate Vick. I hate the way he does not lead “his” team, the way he doesn’t support his teammates during the game (shaking his head in disgust - save it for the locker room) and that he never ever admits that maybe he screwed up in a game (and he does). To hear him, it is always someone else’s fault. Good leaders take responsibility whether they deserve to or not. It’s saying to his teammates: I am the leader and I take the heat.

That is not racist opinion. In fact, I think he is an extraordinary athlete, but not a NFL QB which I believe requires the leadership described above (see Donovan McNabb). Our 3rd string QB seems to be a better leader in the huddle than Vick. Granted we only see Vick at gametime, and he may be an extraordinary leader at practice, but unfortunately gametime is when it counts. I have no problem with his color, it is his leadership and sideline attitude that I have a problem with. Same as with NYG’s Shockey.

Honestly, did he really do any better than Schaub today? What bugs me is that as the #1 QB he should have done better. It is obvious there is more problems with this team than just him at QB. But I haven’t seen any improvement in his leadership which should equate to winning a few 4th qtr comebacks. I wish we could put together some offensive series where he runs and runs and runs. To be an NFL QB, he needs to learn to lead (not sure that will happen if not happened by now). If he does want that responsibility then he needs to move aside for the sake of the team. Is that not realistic?

At least we did one thing right this season….we lost the final game to get a better draft pick! well be around #10-11 pick now. Seeing Schuab throwing accurate deep passes was so refreshing to see compared to what im used 2 watching this team. Arthur Blank is no idiot. He will release Mora and the entire coaching staff. He simply can not let the immature Mora continue. Mr Blank, please understand that hiring the right coach is critical. Another bad hire by you or McKay will deny the franchise a championship for ten years.

I wish you could see that Vick will never take us to the final game, but the big investment is a hard pill to swallow. All good CEO’s make mistakes but the best know they have to be corrected.

Mike Vick is a mistake, so are the number one draft choices. look around the league and see the players we passed over. McKay is not you man either. Hire a GM and then take a seat in the back office and let him run the show. Schaub holds more promise as an NFL QB than Vick. At least consider making right these mistakes, otherwise we’ll continue to languish for seasons to come. You deserve better and so do the fans of Atlanta. Here’s to a better 2007…after your painful but necessary decisions are made.

Some of us know what the real problem with this team. And that is Coaching! Schuab came in and did absolutley nothing! He would’ve had more turn over than what he did if the Db’s for Philly would’ve held on too the ball! This was a second & third string team people! That your boy Schaub looked horrible aganist! Vick shouldn’t have been running a Qb keeper anyway! Knapp finnally got Vick hurt, with that same b****** that he runs week after week! This coaching staff does not have the confidence of the players or in the game plans. The fans are divided over Mora and crew and we don’t know what Blank thinks yet. Mora should go, he has shown no commitment to Atlanta (metro area)and his behavior is immature. Vick is paid $130 mil and should grasp a new scheme that is part of what he is paid to do…learn. I am not a huge Vick fan, but I have never doubted his heart. He has taken some hellacious hits during his career and should be in his linemen’s faces for not protecting him better at times. Today was a clear message to Mora from his team that they were not going to try and save his job, they sucked and played as though they had no reason to play. Actions speak louder than words!

Well, 7-9 record is just fine. Most falcon teams have done worse on average. And speaking of average…that is what Falcons will be as long as Vick is behind our center. The man is hell of an athelete in the wrong position. QB is not his forte….passing the ball is not his game….running the ball is all he can do. Matt Shaub did just fine today considering he has been standing on the sideline all season. Of course when Vick is on the sideline he sits all by his lonesome self glorying in his last pathetic play. But gee….you can’t expect much for 120 million dollars these days. The most exercise seen from Vick’s passing arm is the finger he has given fans. Vick has his $120 millions and the fans have none….have a blessed new year!

AJH,

BECAUSE VERY RARELY DOES ANYONE EVER MAKE AN OBJECTIVE COMMENT ABOUT VICK. THAT IS WHY THE RACIST ACCUSATIONS ARE THROWN AROUND.

THERE ARE VERY LEGITIMATE WAYS TO CRITICIZE VICK BUT VERY RARELY DO YOU HEAR ANYONE DO THAT.

ALL YOU HEAR ARE INFANTILE COMMENTS ON HIS APPEARANCE, THE WAY HE SPEAKS, THAT HE IS DUMB, THAT HE CAN NOT READ DEFENSES, AND SO ON AND SO FORTH.

THERE RARELY IS LEGIT CRITICISM THROWN AROUND. IT IS ALL TOO OFTEN RACE BASED.

for example, all legit criticism of vick should start with this: I appreciate that Vick helped this team to a 27-10-1 record at one point, that his lifetime record is 38-28-1, that his team is 3-12 without him during that same stretch, that he has made the playoffs twice, that he was won two playoff games, that he has two more playoff wins than tomlinson and brees combined, that he brought the freaking falcons of all teams to the conference championship game, that his overall total yardage has been right up there with the rest of the league, that he really does not commit that many turnovers when compared to other QBs, that in the last three seasons when he had talent around him he started the season 6-2, 6-2, and 5-2 before his inadequate coaches let the team slip to 2-6 and 2-7, that his coaches are not very good at game planning, at making the necessary adjustments, at utilizing proper personnel groupings for certain play calls, at motivating their players BUT Vick is bad at (1) this; (2) that; (3) this; (4) that - while making sure that all of the this and that reasons are not based upon anything to do with his appearance, way of speaking, or his intelligence.

An objective viewpoint is a viewpoint that considers the argument on both sides.

Objectivity requires a breakdown of the pros and cons of vick and not just your biased assessment of the cons.

You can not have an objective opinion unless you recognize and appreciate the many positives and accomplishments of Vick to this point in his career.

It is okay to be frustrated with the current state of things and say that vick has a part in that but if you are going to bash vick and say trade him to the raiders (why does everyone automatically assume that the raiders are the only team who wants him), then you must be prepared to explain how vick managed to win 2 NFl playoff games, lead Va. Tech to the national championship game as a frosh, lead his team to a 27-10-1 record at one point, go 38-28-1, end 2002 by going 7-3-1, go 3-1 in 2003, start 6-2 in the first half of 2004, 5-2 in the second half of 2004, 11-4 overall in 2004, 6-2 to start 2005, and 5-2 to start 2006.

There ARE just too many winning statistical trends in there to ignore.

A truly objective commentator must acknowledge all that winning and then ask how could all of that winning could occur with this man at QB (they were 3-12 without him since 2002; 10-19 without him since he was drafted in 2001) but then at the same time have the team manage to go 2-6 at the end of last year and 2-7 to end this year.

All of the other winning should make it clear that the losing at the end of the last two seasons can not be blamed on Vick for the most part but should be blamed on absolutely horrendous coaching.

BUT keep blaming Vick if that is what makes you happy. QBs always make good easy, cheap, lazy targets for moronic biased fans to take cheap shots at.

BUT please do not pretend you are objective unless you recognize and appreciate the many positives and accomplishments that Vick has helped the falcons achieve since he came here.

you may for some strange reason come to the objective conclusion that despite all of the accomplishments, that vick is not worth having.

I very much doubt it though if you are truly objective.

I am a lifelong Atlantan and a lifelong falcoms fan. I have seen highs and lows (many) over the years, and I feel sorry for Coach Mora and his assistants because they did nothing to help their coaching future anywhere in the NFL today. All the racist crap on this log makes me sick. I think M Vick is the best and most talented quarterback in the NFL, and Schaub is a backup. I don’t know who Mr. Blank will find to change the direction of OUR team, but I will always cheer them on. I am just as disappointed as anyone else posting on this article, but I use my brain instead of inbred stupidity and defective DNA that some people have spouted off with today. I am a Vick fan, a Falcons fan and a Blank fan. I have confidence that he will make things right. I have said this all year,it doesn’t matter what quarterback is in the game, under Mora staff will fail. The play calling is so terrible. On first down, the falcons might throw the ball and get a incomplete pass.On second down, they run the ball majority of the time and only gain a couple of yards.I’m no coach but I can quess what they are going to do have of the time.On third down, they get in a shotgun and has to pass the ball, the opposing defence bring a blitz. Our offensive line schemes is hurting both the quaterbacks and the offence. The offensive and defensive coordinators has not made good adjustment all season long.I have been a falcons fan all my life and this year alone is the worst ever I seen the falcons play. These guy have no heart,no confidences and play softers than cotton. If it walk like a duck and quack like a duck then it probably Jimmy Moron.I hope some of you that hates can make a change in 2007.People have a good a wonderful Happy New Year!

I agree we need a tough, bad a* RB first (e.g. Adrian Peterson or the guy from Wisconsin). I am not sure Calvin J should be a #1 with an inaccurate Vick at QB. He won’t get the ball (See Reggie Ball) enough to make a difference to this team. Get the PSU LB Posluszny if possible, then go for OL/DL.

By Mothball

The bottom line is that Vick is the most polarizing figure in professional sports.

Personally, I would not care if he was purple with horns if he brought a championship to Atlanta. When he made that run against Minnesota, I thought my Falcon heart was going to burst with pride at the “incomparable Mike Vick”.

However, at the end of his 6th season, we just seem mired in the muck. I hope a coaching change brings out the best in him and we win the big one. But, I think there is just as likely a chance that he will remain inconsistent which will never fly in the playoffs.

What amazes me is the resigning of O-line personnel with a potential coaching change looming.

Give Vick and O-line, a scheme built around him, a teeth-rattling D, and we’ll see what happens.

Happy New Year and go Falcons!!!!!!

he didn’t throw the pass up for grabs? he threw it out of bounds but unfortunately was getting dragged down at the time and was unable to get the ball past the line of scrimmage as a result. the difference between me and you is that i can admit that was a very ugly play and that vick should have tossed that ball away sooner than that. that right there is the problem with his unique talent is that he can get away from the initial pressure but unfortunately runs backwards all too often and not forward enough to get away from the pressure. these are reckless situations which are caused by his unique talents. he needs to be smarter and throw the ball away, take a sack 3 yards deep instead of 12 yards deep, and run forward more often and not backwards when he can. so, there you go fool. you pretended you had an objective opinion but you did not. there was no analysis provided. just typical shallow, superficial statements that really are nothing more than i hate vick for the sake of hating vick. BTW, did you like how those unique talents created a touchdown today by having him run around until he found Dunn? of course not, silly. you are too filled with hate to even start pretending to be objective about vick

After watching this game, I’ve noticed that even the Haters and racists see where the problems are. Of course, that hasn’t stopped these idiots from venting and blaming Vick. I’ve also noticed how silent they have been about Shaub’s performance. I like Shaub and I think he will be a decent QB for another team. So far, none of those calling for Shaub have anything to say about his average performance. He made the same mistakes haters have been criticizing Vick for making(overthrows, INT, throwing into coverage, not putting pts on the scoreboard).

I’m not being critical of Shaub, because, like Vick, he was handcuffed by Knapp’s incompetence. I see the same old clowns crying and b*** that Vick quit. DIDN’T YOU CLOWNS NOTICE THAT MORA, AND HIS 2 FRIENDS, QUIT BIG TIME? Last gm, jobs on the line, and they took no chances, let alone pulling out all the stops. What did these fools have to lose. On 3rd and 1, why call the same play that’s fail repeatedly all season. Why not go for it on 4th dn, since there was nothing to lose. The one pass thrown to a RB was a TD. With approx. 2:35mins left, down by 7, Knapp was still calling running plays, same as last wk.

When Donatell called his beloved soft zone, dropping his DB’s back, Philly started hitting quick slants and outs. They were getting 8-12yds before our DB’s got close. MORA KNEW DONATELL AND KNAPP WOULD CERTAINLY BE FIRED, SO HE OBVIOUSLY DECIDED NOT TO STAY WITHOUT HIS 2 FRIENDS. SO THE 3 OF THEM SYMBOLICLY FLIPPED THE PREVERBIAL FINGER BY QUITTING ON THIS ENTIRE ORGAN, AND ITS FANS. IT’S LIKE THEY WANTED TO GET BACK AT BLANK BY DENYING THIS TEAM AT LEAST A 500 SEASON.

AFTER THIS COACHING PERFORMANCE, ANYONE THAT BLAMES ANY PLAYER IS TOTAL AND COMPLETE FOOTBALL ILLITERATE, OR WORSE.

Dirtie birdie - with respect to this comment of yours - ALL YOU HEAR ARE INFANTILE COMMENTS ON HIS APPEARANCE, THE WAY HE SPEAKS, THAT HE IS DUMB, THAT HE CAN NOT READ DEFENSES, AND SO ON AND SO FORTH - the fact the Mike Vick is incapable of understanding NFL pass defenses is objective and is not race based. If he were as good as some believe he would be capable of routinely passing to others on the team besides a single tight end, he would have a pass efficiency rating over 100 for the season, and he would not have rushed for a 1000 yards. Make him an offensive or defensive back, but get a leader and a talented quarterback in there. Frankly, DJ Schockley would be a better leader and QB than Mr. Vick.

My father, father in law and brother in law cant stand that I think the falcons are terrible. When you talk about the birds all I hear is wait till next yr. That should be on all t-shirts from here on out. I never played football but played in many other sports and one thing I think I know is heart. I have been telling my family fan club for years that Mike does not have it. It is so predictible that on a meaningless game Vick hits the sidelines. Blank obviously overpayed for Vick. I think he had that new owners mentality where money can buy anything and it cant. Vick will probably be hitting the clubs later tonight to ring in the new year.Kicking back chilling not a care in the world. Blank let this be a new business lesson for you. It sure is an expensive lesson. Flying people in your private jet to have dinner and wow with big checks might not be the best idea. Why dont you let them impress you before letting them strike it rich. I guess the thing that drives me crazy about Falcon lovers is that they just get so caught up in it that they will not be objective when looking at the big picture. I do not want a graet QB that is only good for hi-lite plays. Give me guts and grit the stuff of tough SOB’s. If the supposed leader of your team is on the sidelines what does that say? Happy New Years

i actually saw Mark Messier sprinting away from 3 twelve year old girls one time as they were chasing him trying to get his autograph. they actually waited for an hour to get his autograph. did those girls get broken hearted and think he was a jerk?. they sure did. but i also knew he was 15 minutes late for practice at the time. his teammates had all arrived at practice an hour earlier. and i also saw him stand there for an almost an hour signing autographs on many other occasions. has any NHL player won many more stanley cups than messier? and i have never seen a hockey game in my life and never asked him or gretzky for their autograph because i could care less about them, so do not go there with me. i have seen andre benjamin on numerous occasions at blockbuster video. usually, he is very nice and signs autographs for people. but there are times when has to be rude because it is late and he ran out to blockbuster to rent a movie at midnight and the point of a midnight blockbuster run is that you want to go get your movie and crash. does that make him a jerk? No! and no i have never asked for his autograph because i do not need another man’s autograph to give me validation as a person. about the nicest person i have ever seen when it came to signing autographs for people was the ole dirty bastard, who sat there for almost 3 hours signing autographs for people for no apparent reason other than he was insane. he was actually ticking off many of his people because he was disrupting a video shoot while he was signing all of these autographs and taking countless pictures with people. RIP ODB! and no i never wanted the ODB’s autograph. i love the wu-tang but really what the heck are you gonna do with an autograph of the ODB? Jay-Z was also a very accomodating guy when i ran into him for some reason in the street and he stood there for almost an hour signing autographs. of course people got broken hearted when he had to leave because by that time, the whole neighborhood was over there wanting his autograph and he had already been there for an hour.

the point is that you do not know what was going on with Vick when he would not sign that autograph. who knows? who cares? no one is perfect. perhaps vick was a jerk on that occasion but if you had people hounding you for your autograph and picture, for every autograph you gave and picture you took, there would be another person who would think you were a jerk and many times they would rightfully think you are a jerk because you have to be rude at times with that sort of thing. otherwise, you will sit there for hours signing and taking pictures. someone is always going to end up broken hearted

If you take that same high logic and low emotion approach….you would design schemes and plays that fit the ENTIRE personnel package of the team. The current staff did not do that well on either side of the ball.

Two examples:

Michael Vick Limited 5 and 7 step drops. Those wwere successful under Reeves and more suited for his style and more suited for the limited separation speed of the WRs

Jimmy Williams Why was he not converted to the Safety positionfrom day one?!

CC should not have even been the starter……limited closing speed on deep balls.

I agree with you he has the best winning % fact! You have had a bad franchise though and people want to change that. Vick has done better than all the Qb’s ATl has had before. That does not mean you have to be satisfied. Do you want to stay in that never back to back winning thing or go up? Are we satisfied just because the last five year have been better? If we were the Steelers and he was the best sure but we are the Falcons.

Finally the Jim Mora era ends. Gone are the days of watching this pitifully immature man walk the sidelines like a gleeful 12 yr. old who just won a “spend a Sunday on sidelines with the Falcons” promotion.

Mora is plenty smart, plenty experienced and knows what it takes to be successful being raised in the Bill Walsh 49’ers organization. His tragic downfall was his inability to move beyond his awe (borderline man-crush) of Vick and wanting to be “one of the guys” instead of the head-coach.

It always seemed to me, especially the past two seasons, that it was more important to Mora to be liked by his players than to be effective. There were plenty of times that the Golden Child (a.k.a. Vick) and a few others needed to be benched for a series or two for any number of mental errors, but Mora never had it in him. For that, he will lose his job.

Now at least, he can cuddle up with his Keith Brooking teddy bear wearing his #7 pajamas and fall asleep beneath his autographed DeAngelo Hall FatHead without any fear of repercussions.

Maybe Schaub is not the man, but wasn’t it nice seeing an NFL offense for a change. Notice how many reciever caught balss today. Im not lobbying for Schaub. He’s gone anyway. this is what you said that was objective: “When was the last time Vick threw a TD in 4th quarter….when was the last time he brought his team from behind to win in 4th quarter.

This is what you said that was not objective but was just the whole I hate Mike Vick because I hate Mike Vick for the mere sake of hating Mike Vick: “he is a sandlot QB and will always be one. “

I agree with you that Vick sometimes does stupid things with the ball that he should have learned several seasons ago not to do and that he occasionally does not know how to get rid of bad habits. BUT all QBS do stupid things with the ball. For all the stupid things he does with the ball when you combine his fumbles and interceptions, his total turnovers every year have not been much more than other QBs.

1st….It’s good to have a healthy conversation. I want to thank you for that.

You are right the expectation level is certainly higher than it has ever been in the history of the franchise. I just believe one has to look at the success that Reeves and his staff had and be convinced that proper coaching would have delivered different results. BTW….Lovie Smith and Nick Saban were both preferred choices of McKay over Mora.

Nobody was complaining about Vick after the Green Bay playoff win or the NFC Championship game loss. Vick is not the reason this team underperforms. Be honest: the WRs get NO separation from DBs…I haven’t seen any other NFL team suffer so much from their WRs as this one. Most NFL QBs throw to their first look; but these WRs aren’t open, so pass protection is more of an issue w/ the Falcons than with others like, say, the Saints. Defensively, it’s safe to say that the safety issue has re-emerged as a problem. And Jimmy Williams didn’t look like a savior today, either. This team, at least defensively, is different with a healthy Abraham and a healthy Kerney. But, they still need help at safety and on the left side of the Offensive line. Knapp’s playcalling is frustrating and, at critical times, inexplicable. There is a good core—Brooking, Abraham, Kerney, Hall, Milloy, Vick, Crumpler, Norwood, Forney, Wiener—that needs help come April. Hall talks too much, but anybody who watches the NFL knows that the guy is a good DB. Not perfect, but better than 90% of the DBs in the league. There’s no doubt about that.

Go big on the Offensive line…sacrafice the league lead in rushing for a balanced offense. Cut bait on Jenkins. He gets absolutely no separation, even on backup DBs. Colston and Henderson at New Orleans look like Hall of Fame picks compared to Jenkins and White.

Let’s make the QB position a race issue. Sounds like fun. In a city that divides itself along Black and White lines, however, it’s hardly surprising.

C Daddy: how can it be objective to say that vick can not read defenses? how do you know he can not do so? are you in there at the QB meetings going over game tape with Vick, Schaub, and DJ? i do not think so. he may not be able to read defenses but there is no way any of us know that for sure. we are all just a bunch of fans. no fan goes over those film tapes to determine that. thus, no fan can use as an objective criticism of vick that he can not read defenses. because if you do not know that he can not read defenses as fact, then you have no basis in fact to make a valid objective comment like vick can not read defenses. if you know otherwise, then i apologize and you can go on here and say he can not read defenses. but i highly suspect you are not watching the game tapes the QBs and the coaches are poring through.

All of these historical stats are poppycock. Vick’s history is irrelevant. His future and how it affects this franchise most certainly is. I hope he wins the MVP on the way to taking the Falcons to the Super Bowl next year. But, is that likely?

Bring on the new coaches. Mora and his lackeys have torpedoed his development and smothered him in this ridiculous offense.

A coaching change will allow him to fly or flop. Any Falcon fan should hope for the former.

All organizations reflect their leader. I’m not talking about Vick, Mora, McKay. I talking about Arthur Blank. Mr. Blank may a fortune outside of football, not in football. Mr. Blank shoul go to Dan Reeves, tell him he made a mistake, ask Reeves to become General Manager and to pick personnel, coaches and players and then go home and hope Reeves’ calls him back and accepts the job as GM!

The historical facts are important, because they point to past accomplishments…but also demonstrated ability.

There still is only one quarterback in the history of the league that has gone into Green Bay and won a plyoff game.

The prevalent point that I wish to make is that proper coaching is the key.

Hey FalFan,

Arthur should call Dan, but not to be the GM. Dan Reeves was a great coach but not the best at personnel. One argument could be that he would be an efficient GM, if that was to be his only responsibility.

We need new blood in Atlanta, filled with determination and excitement… and most of all…a “take no prisoners” attitude. Your love and loyalty to Vick is admirable but Mr. Vick is not the answer and the best coach in the world will not erase the “sandlot” habits Vick displays all too often to the detriment of our team.

I lived in Atl for 20 years but left in 2000. Although I still love the Braves I have never cared for the Falcons. I know it’s hard to conjure up Super Bowl magic but the Falcons are certainly not worth race bating. It’s a shame that black and white folks write such mean things about each other because of them. Science has proven that we’re all connected in a big web of humanity. What you do to or say about someone else impacts you in the same way you intend it for the other person. Let’s talk about the Braves, instead. They have a great shot at the World Series, using both black and white players!

Dirtie birdie - clearly I am not at the meetings where the QBs go through game tapes. Whether the lessons are learned is another story. However, after 6 years as an NFL QB someone with as much time in as Vick (this is the NFL folks) will ordinarily be making plays to receivers other than his lead TE Algie C. Schaub did it and he’s been sitting on the bench most all this year. Is he better, worst - who cares! Don’t blame the coaches, look at the mirror.

What bothers me as a fan the most about Vick is that he is not a leader. A leader wraps his ankle and stays in uniform on the sideline trying to help his backup and his team win rather than pout on the bench. A leader does not rip his team or his coaches on TV while “keeping it real”, he addresses his concerns with those involved directly and constructively. A leader does not come back on TV a day after his head coach gave him an out (on said TV)for his previous remarks to say no, I am keeping it real and let me rip my coaches and team again.

A leader finds a way to make everyone around him/her better, whether you win or lose. Mike Vick showed his a** this past week on the idiot box. What little hope I held for him is gone. A man his age and with his level of talent is capable of self-motivation (some call it pride) and working within the framework of a team to win as a team. Mike Vick is not that man.

By Cowboys For Life

December 31, 2006 11:00 PM | Link to this

First of all, I can’t talk because my Cowboys lost to the lowly Lions at home. But like every one else, I do have an opinion.

You Falcons fans wants to blame everyone. Is it the head coach or the players, particularly Michael Vick, for the Falcons failures? I blame the coaches. For some reason, Mora and Knapp has not put Vick in a position to succeed. The year Mora took the Falcons to the championship game, the defense played ball. So, the last two years the Falcons defense played terrible. I thought that was the reason Mora got the job because he was a great defensive coordinator. So we know Mora hasn’t done the job. Now as for Vick, he played his best under Dan Reeves and less-talented receivers. We know he can succeed under the right system. Falcon fans don’t know anything about the salary cap because if they did, they would know it next to impossible to trade Vick because they would take a monster hit on the salary cap. Therefore, you guys can forget Schaub being the starter. I think Schaub could be a great quarterback, but not with the Falcons. The Falcons are not a dominant running team Take away Vick’s rushing yards and they may be an average at running the ball. So if Schaub doesn’t have running game helping him out, he will be on his back just like Vick.

I totally agree with a comment Michael Vick made recently. He said that if he throws one interception, that he is basically crucified by people who won’t forget about it and move on, but if any other QB in the league throws three or more pics in a game, that QB is said to have a bad game and everybody moves on. I have always been and always will be a Michael Vick fan. I moved out of Georgia, mainly because there are so many idiots in Atlanta. Reeves is not the answer and is not that great a coach. He lost the superbowl by not having disipline on his team. He should have locked them down on Sat night and Mr Robinson wouldn’t have been out looking for hookers. Then he compounded it by starting Robinson and Denver threw to his side and the rest is history.

We need new coaches and either Vick needs to perform like a 6 year veteran or he needs to go too.

Lets go Jets. They are at least a team that is working together and well coached.

I’m obviously naive, but this level of blatant racism in 2007? I don’t think we’ll ever get along. This is a game, folks. That’s all it is. I feel bad for people who might lose their jobs, but think about kids in Darfur that die a slow, agonizing death every day for lack of basic food and medicine. Think football is worth getting worked up about? Try using this energy to do something worth a damn.

Vick you are the Atlanta Falcons QB. Don’t waste your time talking to the hater. Mr. Blank Owen the team and pays mike and the other well and coaches. And when you got cash you can do a lot of thing. Fact mike will start next year and ant nothing the hater can do but talk.So hate him or love him he will be back and I know it’s killing yea. Real Fans want the best for the team and Vick is the best for our team right. Get some big linemen on both sides of the ball with speed . We need meat on our lineman!Alix Gibbs scheme is the down fall of the offense along with Knapp. Donatell you are a poor coach 2nd and 3th string bet us today. This team is build wrong!

So spraining your ankle constitutes quitting now?

For Vick’s own sake, I hope he gets traded to a team where the fan base actually wants him to succeed.

Amazing how our dearly beloved Schaub led the team to 7 points against Philadelphia’s 2nd string defense, while Vick leads the team to 10 points against Philly’s 1st string, and people still think Schaub should start at QB.

Don’t get it twisted, I’m a Schaub fan as well as a Vick fan. I like having a solid backup QB, and I think Schaub will be a good player in the NFL. But better than Vick? No, I don’t think so. Neither Schaub nor Vick played great or terrible today, both were mediocre.

But as you may or may not have noticed, the playcalling dramatically improved with Schaub in the game because the coaches didn’t go out of their way to “get Vick on the edge”. Whenever Vick’s in the game, they try to get him on the move, which usually results in Vick running for his life which more often than not results in lost yardage or turnovers, and nearly always kills offensive rhythm. When they call normal plays for him he does fine. When Schaub’s in the game they don’t run gimmick plays at all, so the offense gets into a rhythm and functions better. It all comes back to the playcalling folks — if the coaches would watch film and realize that a gimmickless offense fits both Vick and Schaub the best, this offense would do fine. And if the coaches would watch film and realize that an aggressive, proactive defense works better than a passive, reactive defense, this defense would do fine. The talent is there — the coaches are not. Fire Mora, Knapp, and Donatell, hire a good staff, and this team will be a playoff team again.

Happy New Year.

* Well I guess its time to start figuring out what draft spot we get. Mora, Knapp, and Donatell will all be gone, thankfully, but Blank should forget about how much money he has in Ron Mexico and send him packing too. He laid down AGAIN. We can’t win with a great athlete, we need a great quarterback. Schaub may be a little overhyped, but just for reference, today Schaub had over twice as many passing yards as Vick, a higher completion percentage, and more rushing yards, and that was in less playing time. Vick did however, have more sacks. Amazing.*

C Daddy:

although I am obviously a staunch vick apologist, i will readily admit that vick is no longer a leader on this team.

i think earlier in his career, he clearly was.

i think like most young, exciting, dynamic players and coaches, there is that initial burst of excitement created by that particular player’s talent.

it makes him a leader because the teams rallies around the guy and believes that he can do anything to lead them to victory.

You are seeing that right now with Vince Young. You saw with Vick up until game 9 last year, you saw it with elway early in his career, with marino early in his career, with big ben early in his career, with mcnabb early in his career, with peyton manning early in his career, with tom brady early in his career, even with drew bledsoe early in his career.

you see that awesome talent becomes a rallying cry for the team and the kid stud is made into a star for a few years.

then it wears off as the player gets older and people get used to him.

there is required then an evolution of the stud QB as the leader.

at some point in their careers they reach a standstill point where their mere talents alone do not make them leaders on the team.

that standstill if often caused by a coaching change where the new coach does not blindly believe in the QB like the first coach did or where a divisive teammate like TO arrives and blows everything up or by the retirement of true leader like jerome bettis.

you saw that elway had that initial burst with all those SB appearances but then his career stalled out for 5 or 6 years before terrell davis arrived on the scene. although reeves and elway butted heads frequently, reeves had blind faith in elway for the most part. reeves never had that same success again until he reunited with shanahan who also had blind faith in elway.

marino was awesome as a leader his first 3 years but not so much after that. people think that vick is too much of an individualist. there was no greater individualist than marino - the team never won because he only wanted to pass and chuck it and shula was never strong enough to make sure that there was a balanced running game to go with it. but even though marino was not as much of leader as he once was, shula had blind faith in marino’s abilities, so marino essentially was the unquestioned leader of the fins, although not as much as he had been during his first 3 years because the results were not as good. when jimmy johnson came on board, what happened? johnson did not believe in marino and marino’s leadership position with the team was tenuous at best as a result.

mcnabb was clearly a leader in going to 4 straight conference championship games before TO destroyed all of that and divided his locker room and stripped him of his leadership over the team. now garcia looks like a better leader and rallying cry kind of guy for the eagles.

garcia was a leader with the 49ers for a while until of course divisive, underhanded nonbelievers like TO and Knapp happened to garcia and garcia was quickly rendered into a vagabond desperately looking for a job.

joe montana was the unquestioned leader of the ole 49ers because Bill Walsh for the most part had blind faith in Montana’s abilities. seifert however replaced Walsh and did not have that blind faith in montana and he shoved montana out the door and replaced him with young, causing montana to lose the leadership position he had enjoyed for 10 years with the 9ers.

steve young was a leader of absolutely nothing until he was found by walsh and until seifert played him because walsh and seifert were true believers in young.

brady has evolved into a leader but let’s see how much of a leader he is when things start going bad or if belicheck leaves the pats. belicheck has blind faith in brady. the next coach may not.

bledsoe looked like a leader on the team when he had parcells as his coach. parcells drafted him, believed in him, and force fed the guy and he got bledsoe to help lead them with his talent to the super bowl in his 4th year. then parcells left and bledsoe’s reign as team leader slowly went away until 2001 when brady played david to bledsoe’s goliath. it is very similar to vick where reeves drafted vick, believed in him, was force feeding vick, and making it clear that vick was his prized pupil and favorite son that he was going to ride all the way to the Big Show. Then they replace Reeves with Mora and Knapp who i personally do not think have ever believed in vick or understood vick and have therefore unintentionally sabotaged the abilities of leadership position of Vick on the team. after parcells left, bledsoe never again had a coach like parcells who blindly believed in him just like reeves blindly believed in vick. thus bledsoe never had the same success again and was never able to regain the unquestioned leadership position with the team that he had when parcells was there. you can see the blind faith that reeves had in vick by looking at the blind faith parcells has in bledsoe such that 13 years later, ten years after that super bowl appearance, he was reluctant to replace bledsoe. you can say that mora has blind faith in vick because of what he says to the public but mora’s actions and his daddy let you know that he does not truly have the required blind faith in his star QB.

big ben looked like a leader his first 2 years but not so much this year. it is clear that the Bus was the leader who was the glue holding that team together. Imagine that not having a big back can totally disrupt the success of the running game, the passing game, and also the defense?

peyton manning for the most part has been a leader but at some point here with all of his failures to win the big games going all the way back to his inability to beat the gators in college, his teammates are going to stop looking at him as a leader. mora, sr. and dungy have been true believers in manning. will the next coach be? if dungy get swept out, will the new coach tinker with everything and want more control over the offense and disrupt manning and unintentionally undermine manning as the leader?

Eli is too laidback to be much of a leader. but he has an idiot for a coach and a bunch of loudmouted fools like tiki, strahan, plax, & shockey who undermine eli just like TO undermined Garcia, McNabb, and Bledsoe and is starting to do to Romo.

Phil Simms was a leader because Parcells blindly believed in the man he now calls “the great phil simms.” When Ray Handley came along and then Dan Reeves, they were not true believers in Simms, so Simms was no longer much of a leader to the team.

but i think the best, most objective criticism of vick is that he is no longer a leader on this team. a big part of that has been caused by Mora and Knapp who have never truly blindly believed in Vick like Reeves did and have therefore been unwilling to completely trust vick to go ahead and do his thing the way he had been allowed to so successfully under Reeves. vick as a result has been handicapped by the lack of faith and trust shown in him by knapp whereas the blind faith exercised by reeves pushed vick and the falcons to great 27-10-1 heights.

but, besides all of that, it is not the coaches’ fault that vick is not a natural born leader. I get really annoyed with him sitting on the bench in between every series as if he is just lounging and as if another unit of his team is not out there playing. it is unquestionable that he gives many of us that impression when he just sits there on the bench like that. this was most noticeable in the eagles game in the conference championship game and the bears game last year when he was all bundled up in his big ole winter coat as if he was going to curl up in his blankie and go to sleep. I watch derek jeter who is a natural born leader and captain because he never seems to sit on the bench. jeter is always perched on the top step intensely observing what is going on and rooting the yanks on and is always the first one out of the dugout to congratulate a player. If you ever get the chance watch the 1995 divisional playoffs on ESPN Classic when Don Mattingly hits his only postseason home run of his career. Who is the first guy out at home plate to congratulate Mattingly? Derek Freaking Jeter. A kid who only had 48 at bats that year and who was not even on that playoff roster that year. His true rookie year was not until the next season. That is the kind of natural leadership that is missing with Vick.

I wish the next coach would implement high school rules such as no one sits on the bench. that sounds very stupid but think back to high school. there was a reason your high school coach never let you sit down on the bench and never let you take your helmet off. to keep you focused. to increase team unity. to force you to root on your teammates because it is boring to just stand around so you are almost compelled to root on your teammates because you need something to do. it is too boring to just stand still. but when you are allowed to sit down, you do not get as bored thus you are less likely to pay attention and stay focused and you are much less likely to act like a leader and root your team on. keeping your helmet on at all times also causes everyone on the team to be a bunch of faceless teammates - no individuals allowed. Think back to Favre and Emmitt Smith ripping their helmets off all those years ago looking for alot of me me TV time. The idea was that if Favre and Emmitt did not rip their helmets off, they would be seen as just another faceless football player. AND faceless football players do not get endorsements. Pretty boys with a face do. You see that with Derek Jeter even. You will also notice that Jeter never wears his cap when he is perched on the top step of the dugout. So, although he is being a good leader by staying in the game and rooting his teammates on, he also has hit hat off so that the cameras can pan to him every 20 seconds and let everyone see how pretty is and he can therefore get a lot more commercials as a result.

If the next coach wants Vick to be more consistent, he may institute a rule that Vick is to never sit down. Not letting VIck sit down on the bench may cause vick to stay focused and thereby increase his consistency. AND also it would force him by default to root his teammates on because it is too boring to stand around and thus thereby increase his position as an inspirational leader on the team.

also, if i were arthur blank, i would institute a rule that no player talks to the media unless they are wearing their uniform or they are wearing a suit. No earings allowed. Vince Young is wearing a suit. So should Vick. It would help the image of the team if Vick and every member of the team had to wear a suit. I think wearing a suit would also change Vick’s mindset and those of his teammates by forcing each one of them to be more disciplined and make him think that when they show up at practice or at games or at press conferences they are there representing something much bigger and more important than themselves.

i still think he is a good QB. i still would keep him. find another coach who has blind faith in him or bring back reeves to exercise that blind faith. the 27-10-1 stretch demonstrated that when his coach blindly believes in him, he can be a leader and his team can win alot of games with him at QB. The next coach better have that blind faith in him or they better get rid of Vick because he is not enough of a natural born leader otherwise to make up for the lack of faith shown in him by his coaches. For all of the bravado we see with Vick, he is almost ARODesque in his self-doubt and how quickly he loses his confidence.

Well, Happy New Year Falcons fans—-that pathetic disgusting debacle is what we get for our devotion to this sorry team. Arthur, you must fire Mora, you have NO choice. Things have gotten so bad that we lost to a bunch of 2nd & 3rd stringers! Mora has lost this team, he lost them a while ago & there’s no going back. He would never fire Knapp anyway so they all must go, Donatell, too. If I see another soft zone, I’ll scream! JOe D. can stay. This defense is beyond terrible. I know Abe’s playing with a club, too bad. All teams have injuries & they persevere!! But not us. Chris Crocker is a major bust. He is forever out of position & trailing the play. Cut him. Move Jimmy Williams to safety, the man loves to hit & is good at it. Get another corner to go with big mouth. And fine the loud mouth every time he opens his yap. Mora never disciplined him because they’re pals, that’s a sad way to lead. I know you will never trade Mike Vick but you should. I don’t care what color he is either, it’s nothing to do with it. If we could unload him on someone (hello Oakland, where players go to die) we could save a bundle! Shaub looks plenty good to me & I think he’s an actual leader which Mike isn’t. Who cares if we lose those rushing yards, they didn’t get us anywhere significant anyway. It’s obvious the o-line philosophy is going to remain the same, big mistake. Whoever the quarterback is, they need a massive o-line to protect them & anyone will thrive in that situation. Shaub sure throws a pretty pass, doesn’t he? And he can see over the o-line, too. I just have a feeling about him, hate to see him go but I know he will. Arthur, you are dreaming if you think Vick will ever lead us anywhere beyond what happened in 2004. The inevitable physical decline will start & what happens then? Nothing good, that’s for sure. Thank God Finn is back next year, whooooo hooooo!! Maybe now people will realize how valuable he is to this team. Good luck next year, Falcons, you’re going to need it. I pray there’s a new coach who takes you in the right direction. Over and out.

Let me try again. The blocking scheme the birds use is an inside zone designed to seal or trap defenders in the zones assigned to linemen. This puts more value on quickness and precise coordinated movement than size. The Falcons were the best in football at this and have been the top rushing team in the league three years running. The problems started after the Vick interview on hbo. The coaches tinkered with the blocking assignments to try to pander for M.V. this scheme is the hardest thing in football to get and keep in sync and they have never really regained it.Alex Gebbs is the best in the game at teaching this.In my humble opinion Vick is simply not very good at administering the many skills it takes to be a top nfl qb and instead of doing the hard mental work to become a complete qb he looks for other explanations. This doesn’t explain why the defense can’t stop a high school offense or other shortcomings so its time for Mora to go, but Vick will remain and at some point he has to do the work or face his limitations.I don’t care about black, white or green he has a responsiblity to this team and town 130 million of them!

Unfortunately, Vick isn’t going anywhere because of his contract. If Schaub is signed by someone else, we get a first and a third round pick. We won’t have the West Coast offense next year, so I can’t believe that the Falcons would hold onto Schaub if they could get two picks for him. I don’t like Vick, but we’re stuck with him. Whoever the next coach is will have to find a way to win with him. ‘04 was a fluke. That much is obvious. Vick wasn’t any good as a passer that year either. The Falcons lack heart up and down the roster and it was proven today. Second and third-stringers punked them. I’m sick of this and I expect Blank to make big changes in the next couple of days.

as far as vick goes, anyone who tries to say that vick is not part of the problem is crazy. when they were on their own 20 and the running play with vick was called. vick compounded a bad play call by stopping, trying to run the other way and then throwing the ball away, inducing the penalty for blocker downfield. then on the next play with pressuring coming he should have thrown the ball away, instead he tries to scramble and gets sacked at the 1 yard line. On the play he got injured he did what he always does, run into an opposing player waiting on vick’s left side.

They need some veteran leadership to pull this team together. A vocal player on the defensive side of the ball like Jermaine Trotter.

Mora has lost Arthur’s confidence and he’s a goner. They may need a proven winner who doesn’t take any crap from its players.

Vick has to mature or he won’t last very long. His comments after this last game kill me. Superman? Please! It doesn’t matter what receievers they bring in. He’s gotta study the game and build confidence in the recieving corp.

Forgive me for thinking this was a board essentially devoted to the discussion of Falcons football; in actuality it seems to be a haven for a slew of racist remarks by shamelessly ignorant people. First of all, it makes no difference that Mike Vick is black; in case many of you haven’t noticed, the NFL isn’t lily white. Turning the Falcons dilemma into a racial argument makes no sense because it has nothing to do with anything.

The Falcons are suffering from lack of morale because there is a serious disconnect among and between the players, and between the players and staff. No doubt, there should be firings, starting with the coaching staff. Who could reasonably believe a team can make progress when the head coach has made the entire nation aware of his desire to jump ship at any costs? Mora’s heart isn’t in it, neither is Knapp’s and others, and it shows, and it affects the players. The Falcons have a huge investment in Vick and I think its way too early to give up on him-when he wins, everyone praises him. When he loses, he becomes a pariah. If he had help out there on the field, maybe he could produce better results instead of having to play offense and defense every time the ball snaps. Fire the coaches, fire Lelie, keep Vick, trade Schaub.

I’m not sure what your beef is with Vick, but it just sounds like you can’t handle the idea of a black qb running the team. Its ok, just be honest with yourselves. Why else would you want a QB who has done absolutely NOTHING in this league over a QB who has gone to 3 pro bowls in 6 years, been to the playoffs in two of those years, and is only 1 of exactly two quarterbacks who have EVER taken this franchise to within a game of the superbowl??? Don’t blame the coach blame the QB who sucks and has had 6 years to prove he can win in the NFL and seems to win 7 games. It’s not his O-line they are better than the 41million under the cap Titans and Vince Young wins. It’s the coach killcr Mike Vick. You must be as dumb as you sound. Football is a team sport and it involves a 52 man roster but it’s also about chemistry and leadership. Michael Vick can run there is no doubt when his feet hit the ground watch out. But a QB is he central figure on a team the leader kind of like the motor in a car. If the QB isn’t up to the job or unable to handle it the car won’t work either will the team. So he has been the most successful QB in Falcons history but is 7 games a season satisfaction? Playoffs, Superbowl championships that is why the game is played. One man can change a team look at Drew Brees, the saints were the bottom of the NFL for years. It’s the same team as last year minus Vick’s cousin A. Brooks. Drew Brees came in to NO and had already won in SD and was a QB who understands an NFL offense and defense. This year they are winning and swept the Falcon’s. Tom Brady took over for Drew Bledsoe they win, Vince Young takes a college team no one respect the Texas Longhorns and showe the universe it is sometimes a one man team. He had been doing his running and passing for three years at Texas and beat USC with his legs and arm. Michael Vick doesn’t have that fire in him anymore and it shows in his productions. Vince Young has a team that is 41 million under the cap with no talent and only won three games the year before and traded their franchise QB. Now the QB of the future has arrived he knows when to run and to pass and he has always played in a shotgun offense. No talent on his team and the Falcons are loaded with it. Maybe it is Vick he wants to be Mr. everything and not be a member with more than one star. Where is T.J. Duckett, Peerless Price? He isn’t the leader you need for this franchise and he needs to go unless 7 wins is what you want every year. Those are the facts and everything else you say doesn’t make sense you are defending Vick. 19 TD’s how many INT’s has he thrown for the year? Compare him to Vince Young, Drew Brees or anyone who has been in the NFL the same amount of time and Vick is behind the power curve.

Other teams have realized it’s time to start fresh, Steelers, Cowboys, Titans to name a few you the Falcons can’t let go of Vick and his I love you finger.

I enjoy seeing the Falcons sucks and know that Vick is the reason.

Why do you think that numbers are what makes you winners? If that was the case than Dan Marino would own more Lombardi Trophies than anyone. It’s not about numbers it about leading and making your team want to win and play. Look at the Saints last year the traveling team of the NFL. No one has wanted to play for the Aints since they were the doormats of the NFC. Drew Brees has inspired his team mates to win and to not worry about numbers but about performance on the field. They are 10-5 and swept the Falcons beating them on MNF too. A QB is the leader of a team and like an NCO in the military must provide leadership and the ability to motivate them to accomplish the mission which is winning games. No one is going to win every game but when they are inspired to win when the offense is pathetic like the TItans against Jacksonville that is leadership. Every organization will replace their leadership if they can’t do the job in the Army, or at a fortune 500 club. If a person is performing substandard and the mission is to win and they don’t than they need to be replaced. Michael Vick isn’t winning games and he won’t take reponsibility for his miscues or actions and lack of productivity and he disrespects the Falcon fans. Those who are loyal to him he gives you the “bird” the finger of appreciation and love. He makes money that he doesn’t deserve since he is played to win games lots of them not half or a few but to win championships and the Superbowl not Jersey’s or Madden games. His job is to win he isn’t doing that 500% isn’t winning it’s below average and that is a bust in the real world. The coach is too blame also for not benching him and trying other options Bill Parcells, Dennis Green, Mike Shanahan benched their starters to win. Some were successful and some weren’t the rookie QB’s haven’t been in the NFL 6 years. These are QB’s out of college and so they can’t win them all but when they win as many or more than a veteran QB who is suppose to be Superman the human highlight reel than we have a problem. Face it Michael Vick is a cancer and a problem that needs to go away. He shows his love for the fans with a F%@# you gesture and doesn’t win more than 7 games a season. 6 years and 47 wins and 52 losses I know one win away or loss from an NFC championship. He doesn’t produce the numbers he agreed or promised when he signed his FAT contract. SO don’t defend him show him the door and say Aloha.

These are the facts as of 25 Dec 2006.

The formula works if the Falcons take an early lead, but the team is 0-15 under Mora when Atlanta trails entering the fourth quarter.

Vick, meanwhile, has lost the edge he had from 2002-04, when he seemed capable of nearly taking over games at will. He finished 9-for-20 against Carolina for 109 yards, two interceptions and a 22.7 passer rating that’s the third worst of his career.

Entering Week 16, Vick had a fourth-quarter rating (59.4 percent) that ranked 34th in a 32-team league. His receivers were 31st in yards after the catch and 13th in drops.

Michael Vick the 60 million dollar bust and coach killer who can’t understand an NFL West Coast Offense or read an NFL defense.

When the rest of Atlanta Losers I mean Falcons. These are the facts face it. Get over it and get a new QB 6 years 60 million dollars later and no more than 8 wins. I know you are loyal to Vick but reality sucks and so does staying home another year. On his first carry, Vick rushed for 17 yards to become the first NFL quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. Andersen gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead with a 40-yard field goal in the first quarter that moved him past Gary Anderson for the all-time lead. Andersen now has 539 career field goals.

Vick had four carries for 32 yards and completed 9 of 20 passes for 109 yards with two interceptions.

That makes any team a winner two INT’s and 9 of 20. A great NFL QB the Falcons should win it all every year.

Brees, who came into the day with more than 4,000 yards passing and 25 TDs, finished 13-of-32 for 132 yards on a day his receivers dropped at least eight passes.

— If Vince Young keeps this up, the Tennessee Titans just might do the unthinkable and make the playoffs.

The rookie first-round draft pick has the Tennessee Titans (8-7), who started the season with five straight losses, alive in the AFC playoff race entering the final weekend after rallying them to a 30-29 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

The doubters have motivated Young all season long.

Young threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another to engineer his fourth comeback in the fourth quarter or overtime. This time, he helped Tennessee overcome a 29-20 deficit in the final 12 minutes. After hitting Brandon Jones for a 29-yard touchdown pass, Young engineered a 14-play, 75-yard drive, which Rob Bironas capped with a 30-yard field goal with 2:10 left.

Young’s most electrifying play came at the end of the first half, when he scored on a 36-yard keeper on a fourth-and-2.

Tennessee Passing C/ATT YDS TD INT Young 13/20 183 2 0

Tom Brady directed three long touchdown drives, capped one of them with a perfect touch pass to David Thomas, and helped the Patriots clinch their fourth consecutive AFC East crown with a 24-21 victory against the Jaguars on a rainy Sunday. Brady was brilliant in both games at Alltel Stadium.

He was 23-of-33 for 236 yards and two touchdowns in the Super Bowl victory against Philadelphia. He was even better against the Jaguars (8-7).

He finished 28-of-39 for 249 yards and a touchdown, completing passes to 10 receivers and picking apart the NFL’s second-ranked defense mostly with short and quick throws. He also ran 10 times for 31 yards, getting several first downs on sneaks and scrambling for yards to avoid sacks.

“He’s a great leader,” offensive tackle Matt Light said. “He went out there and did what he always does. Whenever we needed a big play he’s always out there making them.”

Atlanta Passing C/ATT YDS TD INT Vick 9/20 109 0 2 Vick had four carries for 32 yards and completed 9 of 20 passes for 109 yards with two interceptions.

Look at Vick’s numbers against other QB’s who win.

Vick Coach Killer and 60 million dollar bust.

The Falcons (7-8) suffered their fourth-straight home loss.

Vick doesn’t inspire his team to win when he blames them and doesn’t look at himself. Look at Arizona, Leinart he wins and he is a rookie, Tony Romo wins, Drew Brees inspired a city and he swept the Falcons. . It’s about dollars and earing what you are paid. Simple economics. How many people would live in a 60 million dollar house and the roof leaks 50% of the time, or drive a car that works 4 days out of the week. You wouldn’t keep an employee who worked or produced 50% of the time so why allow Vick. Leader he doesn’t inspire the Falcons to win Drew Brees does, Tom Brady, Tony Romo among others. Vick needs to realize he isn’t going to make it as an NFL Elite QB. Admit to himself that he needs to work harder and learn. IF Vick was so gifted why did Dan Reeves bring Steve Young to help him out after his first season? Watch game films, study and learn the playbook, don’t make excuses just do your job and be a leader not a bust.

When the city and Atlanta Falcons fans realize this only will they start to win.

I admit to plagerizing this from Hertic on the official Falcons website blog. It is very telling.

Vick 2005 Qb rating in 4th quarters: 59.4, 3 Tds Vick 2006 Qb rating in 4th quarters: 53.3, no Tds Vick career record when trailing at halftime: 5-21-1 Vick career record when trailing at the end of 3rd quarter: 3-25-1 Total points scored in 4th quarter in the 8 losses: 3 points out of 25 drives Vick has not scored a TD in the 4th quarter in the last 21 games

The “Vick club” rules: - rule 1: you do not talk about “vick club” - rule 2: Vick wins games, team loses games - rule 3: good stats are to be used, bad stats are agenda-driven/wrong/biased - rule 4: bad stats which are not the above, are due to WR-Oline-coaches performances - rule 5: support and defend Vick, cause he is our starting QB. Do what you want with the other players.

P.s. I don’t think Vick is the ONLY problem we have (OC-OL-WRs-DL-rCB-Dunn’s durablility are some others) but he is going to be the most expensive one…

I hear the commentary on Vick by people who used to have a high opinion of him.I’m refering to fair qualified people like Steve Young, Jimmy Johnson and many others who have come to beleave that he has serious limitations,I sincerely hope that under a new staff he can prove US wroung.

Vick has some problem yes. But he is more the solution than the problem. This cut block scheme is flawed. One reason the falcons use this scheme it cost less money for linemen. You get small 5th and 7rounder to play offense line. To save money on cap space Vick and other player can defer money for later to get better player. We need more player with size like Grady Jackson. But again the scheme calls for small player with speed a scheme flaw! Management wants the scheme we are playing . They sign #62 to 5 year and he and #61 are human turnstiles.Ever body is talking about Vick the problem and he is not!The blue print for this team is flawed! we need new builder for this team! McKay, Gibbs,Mora ,Knapp, donatell are the reason the Falcons are like they are!The blue print and scheme is pure BULL$hit!

Fix the problem not the symptom. Management coaching and the teams blue print that’s the problem! Get bigger people!

When you make 90,000,000 more you will get scrutinized more. It comes with the territory. If Vick was not the face of the franchise it would not happen. It would not happen to Shockley either. When the mailroom guy screws up it is not in the paper like when the CEO does.

Very true regarding Favre, James. What we are seeing is a work in progress. I believe that the Falcons will one day become a very formidable, consistently successful force in the NFL. But this is dependent on whether or not the franchise leadership is willing to make the tough choices. Some players have to go. If you keep Vick then inevitably, Schaub must go. With his departure, there is a substantial opportunity to gain a first round pick. Lelie should spend this time off prooving why he should be allowed to return next season. Knapp needs to leave. And honestly, it is easy to dislike Mora but I believe he is under intense, tremendous pressure and he simply cannot handle it, neither professionally, personally, or apparently, psychologically. The statements he made are unforgiveable and his termination is well overdue.

Blank should realize money isn’t everything because it does not guarantee wins. But if you’re going to spend money, spend it wisely and make everyone on the payroll justify his paycheck by earning it, which means putting in the hard work required to win, not simply show up in uniform and make mean faces for the camera. Which brings us to Mike Vick. He has immense potential but what he needs is an offensive coordinator and coach who have a deeper understanding and appreciation for a quarterback- involved and led rushing offense. Vick is an anamoly in NFL football. A running quarterback who prefers to run over throwing. His talent is yet to be, I believe, fully unleashed. However, he must learn to make reasonable decisions that are rooted in logic and viability as opposed to showing off. And he should stop playing the blame game; we know what goes on on the field. As QB, his job is to bring it all together, not undermine an already apathetic team with subversive comments.Of course, much is expected from him because his pay is significantly higher than anyone else on board and perhaps that may have something to do with the discord within the team. Its up to Blank to straighten this out but he should be aware that fans are growing weary of the drama queen sidebars and coaching intrigue.

A franchise player wins not just collects a pay check. The NFL is about Superbowls not 7 wins a year. The Falcon organization was stupid to make Vick the franchise player or should I say bust in the NFL. Brees, Brady, Manning those are marque franchise players who win more than 7 games a year. He doesn’t have it and he never will so don’t make excuses for him he is laughing all the way to the bank with Falcon fans money.

It is obvious that Vick has no confidence in this offense, with the exception of Crumpler. Vick’s a tremendous athlete, but it is getting to be a little late to expect him to develop into a great NFL QB. Next year there will be a new head coach, offensive coordinator, etc. Where will this leave Vick? My gut tells me that Blank will have a difficult time selling a head coaching prospect on the idea of turning this team around with Vick at quarterback.

I was sold on Vick also, until I thought of what team would take him in a one on one trade for their starter.

Certainly not any of the real QB’s in the league like Brady or Manning. Not even one of the up and coming QB’s in the league like Brees or Rivers. Probably not even for a newer QB with a future like Vince Young or Carson Palmer. I’m not even sure the Eagles would give up their back up Garcia for Vick.

In fact, I’m not sure if Vick and Schaub were both up for the same price that Vick would get more interest around the league than Schaub.

That said, Vick has his talents and has been poorly served by his coaches.

I don’t think Vick is nearly as tradeable as everyone thinks. If you are trading a QB because you question his ability to win, then every other team will have even more doubt.

I had bet a friend he wouldn’t finish the first half, lost that one.

I do think the offense picked up under Schaub. I think the pocket holds for him because he gets the ball out. I think the recievers catch for him because they expect to catch and not block downfield.

I think if Knapp stays Vick should go, though I don’t know who really wants him. But if Mora and Knapp are gone, then bring in some magician to give us a Vick offense.

It’s not Schaub’s fault. It’s not Vick’s fault. They both play behind a weak O-Line. They both take plays from the coaches. It;s hilarious how everyone wants to blame Vick for this and that. SOme say Schaub did better than Vick - he was playing a 2nd and 3rd string defense that still managed to keep us out of the endzone which by the way - Schaub tripped over his own legs. Still - the Falcons’ problems rest in McKay, Mora & Company.

I say Arthur offers everyone who had a season ticket a REBATE this year and discount next year. Regardless, I am still beind Vick and I am still a Falcon fan. GET RID OF MORA TODAY!

lawrence,

You keep hyping up Brees. What did he win in San Diego, with Tomlinson and Gates the last two years? He hasn’t even won a playoff game yet!! The media hypes him as a winner but until two seasons ago, before they “found” Gates (can you name the Chargers other receivers when he was there?) he was a 17 win 31 loss QB, which was why they drafted Rivers. Now, he’s had a solid year last year, and a great one this year. Don’t dare put him in the class of Brady, much less Manning, they’ve done it for years and have actually won playoff games. The Saints are the only team from their division to make the playoffs, so I can legimately question their comp. Then you bring up Romo (!), Leinart (!!). Neither has started an entire season yet! But in your eyes, they are “winners”? Ha! You lost credibility with that.

The fact is, the Falcons played themselves for firing a guy with a wealth of football knowledge (Reeves) for a neophyte with a unremarkable track record as an assistant for a declining franchise (49ers) and a somewhat regarded last name (Mora). Quite frankly, he was more successful with Reeves players than his own. Football 101? This is the same coach who drew up and implemented a play with Vick at qb and Schaub going in motion!! Ha!! This is the same coach who continued to play Webster even though he continuously gets burned, etc, etc. Who offers battle slogans and dimwitted jokes instead of solid coaching schemes. No wonder he will be fired.

The problems with Vick, and the rest of the team, stem from a lack of leadership, and I believe thats due to inexperience at very key positions. Your owner is a NFL neophyte (the handling of the Reeves firing, the Super Bowl slapdown by the other owners, the ad in the paper, talking to the coach on the sidelines DURING the game. Your coach is a HC neophyte (has he ever been a HC, what exactly were his credentials (49ers sucked a* the previous years he was the D. Coordinator, his media mistakes (numerous) and I believe a genuine lack of X and O knowledge. I believe thats why he’s viewed as a players coach, a guy who hopes because his players like him they will “play hard” (notice not smart) for him (keep fighting!), they will succeed, not because of solid coaching. The QB is a neophyte (less than 300 passes in college, came out early, two completely different offenses in his career, with how many different receivers? The receivers are neophytes (White rookie, jenkins 2nd year, lelie 3rd). In other words, who really knows what the hell they are doing! Falcons are a West Coast offense, but start the season looking more like the option offense! The coach is schizophrenic, and the team reflects that. A totally unwarranted hubris surrounded this team, all talk and no action at the end of the day, kinda like the coach. I challenge any fan to demonstrate where Mora shows superior or at least competent football knowledge….

D Hall is really being exposed, in coverage and as a punk. Jimmie williams has been a bust so far, so has Hurtwell, Abrahamstring, Crockashit, etc. Add these to the list of problems.

And Vick? Well, I think Reeves would have helped him mature in many ways and would have provided the team with a wealth of knowledge. At this point, I don’t know what he is, or will/can be. The key is, he HAS to want to be better. A better leader, passer, smarter player. He has the physical tools to succeed, is this the right environment?

btw, during the game, they showed Schaub’s stats for his career. 49% completion percentage, less than 500 yards throwing, and an equal number of touchdowns to interceptions. He looked OK at times against 2nd and 3rd stringers (no, Dawkins, Trotter, both starting DEs, Shepard were out the game, only guys who stayed in were guys who started for the first time in the last 8-10 games were left in: Gaither, Considine, et al). I see another Scott Mitchell or Doug Johnson. Remember, he hasnt been schemed against yet, he should have had several more INT (3 hit Considine dead in the hands, he dropped 2). Sorry to burst some of the Falcons fans bubbles, but don’t believe the hype. For every Romo (he may still end up a backup and has played very average of late) there are a ton of 2nd stringers who looked great coming of the bench, but got exposed. There are plenty of questions…….

Good luck next season!!

OK Ive heard enough of the false Vick stats..facts: Vicks actual winning % as a starting QB is now below 55% (The high numbers many of you are quoting would ahve been true about 2 years ago but no linger) He’s beem sacked an average of 2.5 times per game amassing about 1100 yards in lost field position. His career completion % is a miserable 52% He’s fumbled about 58 times and lost at least 27 of them to the other team and he’s thrown a ratio of 2 interceptions to every 3 TDs.And finally if you go through his career you’ll see his record against teasm with winning records is evenworse. Im not aVick hater but all the false nonsense and hero worship is the reason why Atlanta is stuck with this guy in the frst place.

Oh man. Yeah, Lawrence, let’s hype up Vince Young, because he’s so great and such a winner. It’s his first season as a starter and his team has won 8 games and is out of the playoffs. And yeah, I realize he didn’t start the first three games — even assuming he did and they won all three (very unlikely), they would have won 11 games and made the playoffs as a wild card (Indianapolis would still have won the division). So now let’s compare that to Vick’s first year as a starter. Wait a minute… in Vick’s first season as a starter the Falcons made the playoffs as a wild card too! Wow! Isn’t that amazing!

And if you want to compare stats in their first years as starters:

Vick: 81.6 QB rating, 54.6% completions, and nearly 2 TDs for every turnover.

Young: 66.7 QB rating, 51.5% completions, and only 3 more TDs than turnovers.

You might say Vick had a year of NFL experience sitting on the bench, but on the flip side Young had one extra year of college experience coming into the draft, so that’s basically a wash.

In other words, Young is at best a carbon copy of Vick, at worst a less polished version. Vick in his first year was just as much of a leader and comeback artist as Young is now, because the league was unprepared for Vick back then as they are for Young now. As defenses adjust to Young, he will go through the same growing pains as Vick — only difference is, his vastly superior coaching staff will make those growing pains much easier.

In the immortal words of Dennis Green, “if you want to crown him, then crown his a*!” But the results don’t lie — for all the Young-suckers like Lawrence out there, he’s had basically the same rookie season as Vick, and there’s no hard evidence that says in 6 years he won’t be exactly where Vick is right now. Like Vick or hate Vick, I could care less. But please don’t flaunt your considerable ignorance by trying to suggest that Young is anything different up to this point in his career.

The Chicago Bears drafted Bobby Douglass from Kansas in the second round of the ‘69 draft. In six years he was out of a Bears uniform and then just a few more unproductive years found him out of fottball altogether at the age of 31. Why? For a guy that set the NFL rushing record for a QB in “73. I’ll tell you why. The Bears sucked in “73 despite Douglass’ running heroics. They were 4-9-1 finishing last in the NFC Central, a team that had the likes of Gale Sayers. The QB running did absolutely nothing to help the Bears win, in fact you could say it helped them lose!!! Douglass had career QB passing statistics that sent a chill up my spine, as though I was looking at Michael Vick only it was 1973. *In short, a QB that runs with the ball like Vick does, only hurts a team in that it takes away as much as it appears to help the offense. It turns out to be just a self surving statistic that means we have suffered needlessly for 5 years because our QB hasn’t developed in the pocket, throw consistently to his receivers, read defenses as good as he should. I’ll give Vick an “A” for being a gamer with heart, but hell if I was making over $100,000 per game I would try like hell too. * Mr. Blank, and Vick supporters, when will you wake up—-You saw in two stupid quarters what a rusty Shaub can do. He drove the Falcons to a 4th quarter TD and nearly two more if it wasn’t for some bone-head throws, something that hasn’t happened in ages because Vick is so damn inconsistant—-Shaub isn’t the complete answer and It ain’t all Mora’s fault but he is the fall guy and I fear we are stuck with more of Vick’s crap for another year or two because of salary cap and Blank likes this running freak show—-He puts butts in my stadium—-that sounds a lot like Rankin Smith.”

Not only did the falcons lose, but they lost to a bunch of backups. Some say this team is not that far away from good. When you can’t even beat 2nd and 3rd stringers, I’d say you’re not even in the same country as good. I’m a STH. If my tix go up next season, then whoever hasn’t dropped from that shrinking “waiting list” can have my seats. Stick a fork in me. I’m done.

DEAR MR. BLANK, I HOPE WHEN YOU DECIDE ON HIRING A NEW COACH, YOU WILL GIVE IT SOME STRONG CONSIDERATION ON THE PERSON’S QUALIFICATIONS. I AM SURE YOU KNOW BY NOW IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW WELL SOMEONE DOES IN THE INTERVIEW, WHO HE IS CONNECTED WITH, HIS SOCIAL BACKGROUND, HIS RACE, ECT. WHEN UNQUALIFIED PEOPLE ARE PLACE IN LEADERSHIP ROLES, YOU WILL GET ALL SORT OF PROBLEMS, FOR EXAMPLE PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH, HAVE YOU SEEN THE MESS HE CREATED IN IRAQ, JIM MORA JR. IS NOT A LEADER. I HOPE AND PRAY YOU WILL BE MORE THOROUGH IN A REPLACEMENT, LOOK FOR A STRONG LEADER, A COACH WITH A TRACK RECORD. MORA WAS NEVER A PROVEN COACH, HE GOT HIS FIRST COACHING JOB BECAUSE OF HIS DADDY. I THINK JIMMY JOHNSON WOULD BE PERFECT FOR ATLANTA, BUT JIMMY LIKES TOTAL CONTROL. Vick quit once again..even before he “hurt” his wittle footie. Between series..he sits on the bench adjusting his skullie to make sure his cornrows are even. Other NFL QB’s stand up and talk to the team trying to motivate them. Not Ron Mexico..its all about him. This has NOTHING to do with Vick being black. Its just his whole thug image and his attitude. Good lord man, get some speech instruction so you can at least sound intelligent when you throw your coaches under the bus. I am so sick of hearing him say, “dis”, “dat”, “you know”, “we be”, “keeping it real”, etc. Mora is a moron too. If Blank does not clean house soon, I will have lost all respect for the man. First I would like to thank Jim Mora for his stellar coaching to get the 10th overall pick. Also would like to thank mike vick for staying healthy all seasons so Matt Schaub could stay a mistery. So we could get a first round pick for his services. News Flash. No one can compare Matt Schaub to anyone but no one knows exactly who he is. But i have a comparison Jake Delhomme. Why you ask because both have average arms and take risk. He will be a turnover machine next year for whoever he plays for.

How many times can a team get 8 to 9 yards on first down and can’t get the first down? I think I witnessed 20 to 25 times that they could not get 3rd and 1. It’s sad that all these changes will happen because you can’t convert a third and one. If drives would have continued, then Jim Mora’s drive as the head coach would have continued. Now, it seems to be a change of possession (leadership).

Can the Falcons win enough games to get in the playoffs with vick? yes. Can we win the superbowl with vick? NO Vick is a great athelete…and puts the falcons on the map (cover of madden,SI,) But Vick is a terrible leader who dosent care enough to practice his short passing game to get better! I saw shuab make throws that i havent seen from vick all season. IF Blank really wanted to win the superbowl wed trade vick to the raiders for draft rights to Calvin Johnson (the next michael irvin) and start schuab. Get a power running back to complememt norwood or dunn, get a new cornerback/safety and rely on our defense like we did in 98. Go Falcons in 2007! The idea of Schuab throwing to CJ and Lelie deep with finneran and crumpler underneath sounds great!!

Matt Schaub - 4th quater TD pass - first time all year by Falcoons. Mike Flick - thug - non-chalant attitude on sidelines - all year long.

You guys who think Mike Flick is a Superbowl caliber QB have no idea what it takes to play that position in the NFL. The team has serious problems everywhere.

I couldn’t believe Flick was arguing the intentional grounding call with the referee as he was making the announcement to the stadium - he’s a classless thug with no leadership understanding, desire, or ability. He’s a thug. D. Hall is afraid to hit and full of hot air - no cover ability and always able to find someone else to blame for his inability. When I read in the paper that he was blaming the fact that they had prepared for the starters and therefore weren’t prepared to play against the 2nd and 3rd string players, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. He’s an idiot.

Good luck Arthur - you’ll need it with this bunch of losers.

Things that were laid to rest this week…R.I.P James Brown, Gerald Ford, and the Falcon’s 06 season. I tuned in thinking that at the very least finish out at .500 (8-8). Its hard to get disappointed with a team that lets you know mid-season that this was not their year.

As to the performance of Schaub…he pretty much showed that he needs to be demoted to 3rd string. I appreciate his effort however his goal line attempt to tie the game showed his indecision to create. I know some of you will say that he just came off the bench…get a clue and watch the KC and Jags (Quinn Gray) http://www.jaguars.com/News/Article.aspx?id=5768…this is what a backup professional quarterback is supposed to do. Some of you say that Schaub needs time to learn the offense…WTF has he been doing in the 4 years that he’s been here? Seems to me that Andy Reid’s 2nd and 3rd string players are top-caliber and know their respective positions. Let’s be honest these guys that play for the Falcons are supposed to be the cream of the crop…not your Saturday morning pickup flag football players. Blank needs to institute some Peerless Price firings before the training camp.

I have the answer to all of the coaching problemz. This fella a few years ago stated he could be the coach of the Falcons with no problem and probably would lead them to the Super Bowl. Everyone laughed and statred he had no coaching background, but after watching him this season on NFL network, why not give him a shot. If Detroit can let their team be ran by Matt Millen without any expience in running any thing, we should give “Neon” Deion Sanders the chance to coach this team. We already know coming in he will have the respect of this team. He will have Hall of Fame coaches at his disposal. Every ballplayer in the league will want to play for him. And finally he will instill a winning attitude in this team. Give him the oportunity to change the culture and attitude of the Falcons. And besides, the NFL would definately have to change the dress code policy to let hm wear his fly suits on the sidelines each week.

Najeh Davenpoop;Philly and the rest of the LOSER Falcon fans. Why do you insist on keeping Vick as QB? He isn’t winning for the money he is making and Vince Young is better than Vick. Vince Young no team 41 million under the cap no talent and inspires his team to win Vick blames his team. Michael Vick wants to always run this is the NFL not CFL or Europe NFL he is a QB a passing QB. Vince Young with Norm Chow has learn how to pass and when to run and now Vick is being compared to Vince Young. Remember Vick has had 5 years of experience on Vince Young but it doesn’t show in his leadership blames everyone for bad games. And his I love the fans with the finger so he must go. His numbers suck and he won’t win under a new system no one ever has. He didn’t win with Mora’s WEST COAST OFFENSE and it had to be simplified for him imagine brining in someone who’s playbook is complicated. Vick would be reading NFL Offense for dummies. AS for Drew Brees they didn’t want him in SD and he wasn’t a first round pick but now he schooled ATL this year on winning and looks worth every penny. Vick well he is laughing all the way to the bank and he doesn’t have the expectations of VY, Drew Brees or a winning QB to win game in order to get paid.

Vick didn’t do anything in college ball but left early and was hailed the new QB. They were wrong and Vince Young has proven them Vick doesn’t have the understanding of an NFL QB. Remember VY won 8 games and Michael Vick hasn’t won more than 7 games a year so don’t talk about that one just the facts.
Vick sucks as a QB and now he is paid so much BIG MISTAKE no one will take him. Not even the Houston Texans so he is a liability and gets a new coach same results next year and I will be the first to tell everyone in GA.

You people that want to trade vick are the dumbest people in the world!! Where would the falcons be without vick?? Receivers would still drop passes and not get separation from defenders. The O-line would still absolutely SUCK and Shaub would get sacked like crazy. Knapp’s play-calling would still be horrendous. The defense would still give up 300 yards passing and 100 yards rushing EVERY game. Not to mention the team’s revenue would go down without vick filling up the dome and selling jerseys. So everybody who thinks they are experts needs to just shut up and leave the decision making to the people who know football. Mike Vick is are quarterback and it should stay that way. I agree that he can be very innacurate at times, but he can also be absolutely DEADLY when he utilizes his arm along with his legs. With a couple of coaching changes, every game or atleast a majority of the games will look like the Cincy and Pittsburgh games.

Trading Vick if you could get a blockbuster deal could eliminate a lot of those areas you need help in. It is not a matter of his ability. In a couple of years his salary will eat up so much space they will not be able to re sign anyone or sign any free agents. The same will happen to Indy with Mannings big salary. Walker was good when he got traded, no one was questioning his ability but got a deal they could not pass up. A lot of good NFL teams are doing it with servicable QB’s and if you can get great in other areas you can be great with a servicable QB, i.e 98 Falcons.

OK. Mike Vick is a superstar. We all know that but the problem is MIKE VICK KNOWS THIS!!! He acts like he is too good to have anything to do with the other players and Im sure his team sees this also. Was it me or did I see the recievers step it up for Shaub? Maybe its because they feel like his team member instead of someone working for him. I say trade Vick and let him get a fresh start on another team. Maybe his head will deflate some and he will succeed somewhere else. Didnt that just work for the Saints QB? I would like to see Vick win but just not in Atlanta. I want to see a team again. The ATLANTA FALCONS!! Not the Mike Vick show and some other guys. Trade Vick. Fire Mora (sorry guy but your the coach not a player so stop trying to be so buddy buddy with the players. You could be right about filling the seats though. Atlanta is a superstar town. They will come out to see a star. I remember going to a game late in 98 and more Saints fans than Falcon fans and the Falcons had to be about 10-2 at that time. So maybe this town is just a superstar town?

I dont know why you Vick haters are praising Schaub, this fool trips over his own feet, what a dufus. When just need a new defensive line and I dont think that Jimmy should have been fired.

If Vick is the problem, how do you explain how good he was the one year he started under Reeves? The production, the fourth-quarter comebacks, 10 wins, including one in Green Bay. Give the guy a real offensive line, some receivers and a scheme that fits and see what he’ll do. Mora is a hothead like his dad and can’t out-think real NFL coaches. College ball is about emotion; pro ball is about brains.

Thank you Arthur Blank!! You are a man of action & I love that. I’m so happy to see that smug, arrogant cocky for no reason face of Jim Moran’s go….Now let’s take our time & get it right this time, let Rich Mckay do his job. Can we please consider Ralph Friedgen?? Also, since we can’t trade Vick EVER because of that ridiculous contract, at least let’s give the prima donna something to think about & open up the starting job for competition-please keep Shaubie!!! I know he thew a pick but otherwise, he looked great!! Pretty passes, he can run a little & he’s a natural leader something Mr. Vick is not & doesn’t want to be. A leader does not say basically, it’s not my fault we’re not winning, I’m doing everything I can…he was inconsistent all year so he’s far from blameless. He’s a little too disconnected from the team, I love Jeff Garci’s attitude with Philly, so enthusiastic! I’d rather have someone with less talent & more leadership & consistentcy, I think Shaubie could be that, we shall see if not with us, then some other fortunate team. Also, could we clone Lawyer Milloy??I’d like to have a dozen of him on defense, he must just hate being on this loser team!

The Falcons season is over, the coaches have been fired, and their future coaching careers are in jeopardy. The 3 amigos, Mora, Knapp and Donatell, tanked yesterday’s game for sure. JWilliams played an outstanding gm last wk, while playing man coverage. With Donatell knowing he would be fired, he played his beloved soft zone cover DEF the entire gm. Even more telling, most of the time he played Rossum and(a REC’s favorite CB)instead of Williams.

There was a bright spot or two. RWhite has not dropped a pass since the TD drop, and has even made the tough catches.

Maybe we can trade Vick for Vince Young. Young is a leader. McNabb is a leader. McNabb played with a broken leg. Would Vick? I think we know the answer to that.

Dr. R, You answered your own question about Vick playing under Coach Reeves. College ball is about EMOTION pro ball is about BRAINS. Vick however shows that he has niether!

Vick is an idiot. He is too stupid to even audible. Mora could have success elsewhere without a “look at me, look at me” owner with his head up his Qbs ‘s a$$. Mike “herpes man” Vick: Flipped his own hometown fans off (where is Blank brain on this?). *Has herpes. Stinks in public. Has some bada$$ cornrows. Was taken over LT AND Brees (Oh My God! That’s a joke in itself). Threw his own coach under the bus. *Is a SHT QB.

Go ahead MC Herpes lovers. Defend his stinking A$$.

What is all this BS talk about trading Vick for Young? There isn’t a single human in the state of Tennessee that would vote for that.

Vick STINKS!!!! Young will be a star.

Jean,TTCO,Mean D… U all are lost if u think,2 left feet,“Schaubie” is the answer.. What has he done,or did yesterday.. To think the recievers stepped up for him is crazy.. He was facing a 3 man rush… So he was able to sit back and unload.. U know how i know the NFL is more afraid of Vick, and not your Matt Fraud??

They rush 3,and dare him to pass.. He is not a mobile threat.. It only takes a Defensive Co-ordinator 1 hour to come up with a gameplan on Schaub, and nites of no sleep to come up with one on Vick….

Folks, I know this made sound weird, but why in the H**l the Falcons never draft players from UGA is a freakin mystery to me. Every other team seems to. I’d rather have any player from UGA ,than the best player from Va.Teck!! They have a load of talent right under their nose, and always let it get away. Can you say Hines Ward, Champ Bailey etc. I could go on but what’s the use !! Pathetic!!

Nunna Yo Bizness, You also answered yourself with your comment, They rush 3 because he is not a running threat but IS a passing threat. They rush only three so they can drop more defenders into coverage that is simple football strategy when you have a good passing Quarterback playing against you. By a lot of the entries you post I can see you never played football or if you did you didnt learn anything same as your idol Ron Mexico the herpes boy. Six years and he still plays like a high schooler or sandlot QB shameful just shameful! Oh and what Schaub did yesterday was 15 of 21 passes for 175 yards in less than 2 quarters with a 4th quarter TD which youre boy has not done in 19 games and counting. What Schaub didnt do was QUIT!

MR. BLANK YOU TOOK A GOOD STEP TODAY BY FIRING BOZO THE CLOWN,BUT LETS KEEP IT GOING BY LOOKING AT RICH McKAY AND EVEN YOURSELF,FIRST OF ALL YOU ARE GUILTY OF PAYING ATTENTION TO THE OPINIONS,WHO JUST DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.M.R.McKAY WAS JUST ABOUT TO BE FIRED AR T.B.SO WHY DID YOU EVEN DARE LISTEN TO ANYTHING HE TOLD YOU? THEN YOU FIRE A COACH WHO HAD JUST TAKEN YOU TO THE SUPER-BOWL AND DRAFT AT BEST A POOR HIGH-SCHOOL Q.B. THEN BETWEEN BOZO AND McKAY YOU GIVE AWAY A LOT OF MONEY TO OVER-RATED FREE-AGENTS,WHOM SOMEONE ON THE FALCONS HAD TO HAVE KNOWN STAYED INJURED OR PLAYED LESS THAN HALF-A-SEASON,AND SIR YOU MOST IMPORTALY NEED TO STAY OFF THE SIDELINES,AT ALL TIMES UNTIL WE WIN A SUPER-BOWL,IF YOU WERE THERE LOOKING OVER THE SHOLDERS OF YOUR EMPLOYEES AT HOME-DEPOT EVERY SECOND OF THEIR WORK SHIFT I DOUBT YOU WOULD OWN THE FALCONS TODAY

I can hate Vick all I want!! You bunch of whining Vick butt kissing idiots need to get a clue. NOBODY but Atlanta would wait 6 years on a Quarterback to come into his own!! 6 years and he can’t be consistant!!! HELLO!!! Oh yeah blame everyone else…but he’s the biggest whining baby out there!! The whole team is built around this whimpy whiner…I’M TIRED OF IT!! Anybody else would have fired him years ago!!!He should have went 2 years ago and been replaced with someone who could make a difference!! He has been an embarassment to the team and to the fans!! First the Ron Mexico thing and then he gave the finger to disappointed fans when he FAILED to do his job!! And you still try to defend this cry baby???? Please!!! It’s past time for him to SHOW UP or get off the pot!! I’m tired of waiting!! Matt Schaub is a quarterback with great potential…watch, wait, and see…2 years he will lead a team to the Superbowl where we will be sitting around holding Mike Vick’s hand and kissing his butt as we hear once again…”We are still rebuilding”. I can be mad…I can hate Vick, I can be ticked off at the coaching squad…you know why??? I’ve been with the Falcons for over 30 years…I’ve been a seat holder for 22 of those years. Where have you fair weather fans been? I’ll say and feel as I want and none of you foul mouthed, discrimination screamers can stop me!!! We need a quarterback with leadership abilities!! A real MAN not some wanna be!!

They fired the wrong guy. Vick needs to go, he will never be anything more than a running back that plays quarterback and will not ever step foot in the super bowl.
