Good riddance
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The latest news is that Stanford is interested in Greg Knapp as its head coach.
I hope they take him… and quickly. His game plans are too predictable, and Vick has foundered in his scheme.
The Falcons have won the past two games, which they needed to, but it hasn’t been because the offense is putting up big numbers.
It’s time for a change.
Go Cardinal (I’m sure he’ll be a great coach for you, really) and Go Falcons!

I agree, this would be a perfect exit strategy for Knapp, and a way for him to save face from potentially getting canned. But the question is, based upon the other candidates will Stanford pick him? OH this is a beautiful opportunity though!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
how dare they steal away our excellent OC!! Knapp is great! He is the best OC coordinator ever. I do not know where we would be without him. Don’t steal him Stanford. Please. We need Knapp. It would be a darn shame to lose him. Look at this offensive attack he has built around here. we always lead the league in rushing for crissakes! Please do not take him away from us!
;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) :)
please do anyone dare attack knapp on here in response to this bird babe blog. praise knapp like you would praise the lord and your mother. People out there in Palo Alto might read this blog. we want them to falsely believe we are absolutely devastated and heartbroken about the possiblity of losing Knapp.
Come on, everyone. Recite after me: We can’t lose Knapp. We love that guy. We need Knapp. Look at what a great QB he has made Mike Vick. Please don’t take away my Knappy you Stanford bastards.

Again I ask, why is Knapps offense not working? Its not totally a knapp problem. No WR’s, bad pass pro and i’ll say it, an inconsistent QB. And questionable playcalling at times. That all plays a part in this ugly offense. But coaches can only draw the plays up, they can’t run them too. You have to have players executing to make it as a playcaller in the league. We don’t have it. This is a version of the same offense that the niners used, green bay used, philly uses now and denver to a certain extint. So don’t give me the plays don’t work thats ignorant.

Personally, I agree that Knapp needs to go, but not because he isn’t a good OC. He’s just not a good one for MVick and the Falcons. I also don’t think we need to change the current system. The Falcons have led the NFL in rushing every yr this system has been in place. You just don’t throw that away simply for the sake of change.
What is needed is an OC that can come in and install modifications to compliment what we have. Our passing philosophy, as well as our passing attack, needs to be modified. Our rushing attack simply needs more imaginative implimentation, or play selection. AND MVICK NEEDS TO BE GIVEN MORE ON FIELD CONTROL(AUDIBLIZING).
Our DEF has enough experience and talent to be simply dominate. We simply need an aggressive minded DC that will employ a DEF system that takes advantage of that talent and experience. THIS TEAM HAS TOO MUCH SPEED, QUICKNESS AND PROBOWL QUALITY TALENT, ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL, TO FLOUNDER THE WAY WE HAVE.
At the very least, I hope Blank does for Mora what he did for Reeves. Force him to get a new coaching staff or be fired. GO FALCONS!!!!!!!

I have to agree its time for Knapp to get the sack… we have the best rushing attack not because of greg but because of Vick,Dunn, and Norwood if anything Kapp is holding the birds from soaring let mike be mike and put in Norwood more often, Dunn is great but knapps playcalling this year …. im a season ticket holder and to go watch yor your team flunder over again with horrific playcalling. Let him take that job and bring in a real OC… All in favor of the Falcons making a Dynasty say I !!!

Knappyhead would be an excellent college coach. His idiotic brand of offense is more suited for the collegiate type of play, as oppose to the NFL.

Hey Y’all:
I hate to say this, But remeber Knapp crated the whining, chining, crying, infamous Terrell Owens (T.O.) we see today. The first time I really noticed T.O. hollering crazy in his career was with him cursing Gregg Knapp on the sidelines in San Fransisco. T.O was hollering “Throw Me the BAll. Give me some plays and throw me the D-MN ball *$$@@++##??!!!. He has been T.O. ever since. This is what a non creative offensive coordinator can do to a gifted person. He can tunr them into a MONSTER!!!
Hang in ther Knapp. We do not want to create another T.O. in the NFL. Get creative and call some exciting and creative plays. I know it is in you!!!
Go Falcons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is between us Falcon fans. Don’t tell bobody.

Even the Bird Babe knows how awful take-a-knapp is. I love it. For all you morons who support Knapp, we’ve barely managed to beat two of the crappiest teams the past two weeks even though we have an pro-bowl rb, te, qb, pro-bowl caliber fb, and three 1st-round picks at wr. The talent is there. What isnt there are results…we only scored 10 offensive points against one of the worst teams in football last week.

Knapp is simply an idiot. After Dunn & Norwood went down last week, Knapp sat on an 8 point lead FOR THE ENTIRE 4TH QUARTER by calling all running plays and just TWO PASS PLAYS. You lose your top runners and you still won’t pass? Tampa could have scored a fluke TD and made the 2 point conversion and suddenly we are tied. Then Knapp would have been scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. I could come in with no experience and guide this offense to 20 points a week. Knapp is lucky the team is not 4-11 right now. HE IS PATHETIC AND WILL NOT BE MISSED ONE BIT HERE. Greg, if you are reading this…..YOU S%CK!

Everyone acts like the world will be all right if Knapp gets gone. The problem is not so simple. Some people say the scheme has to fit MV better. Ok, we all know any starting QB is one sack away from being out for the season. Then we have to reinvent the offense to fit Schaub? The scheme has to play to the strenghs of the TEAM, not one guy. is there time in Mikes career to learn a new offense? IS a new coordinator simply going to come in a “tweek” our system in place or is his ego going to tell him to try to put his stamp on the team and put in his system. I do not want KNapp to stay but there is no simple answer as far as a replacement. I do not think Musgrave is the answer. If he was a good OC or top level coach, he would still be one. He got a shot at it and did not have sucess.

also, i took a few minutes and looked up some stats, Brooking has better numbers than Ray(slice & dice) Lewis and Urlacher He better go to the probowl. You do not see him getting burnt on plays to his side of the field. The uninformed say “he makes tackles 5 yds down field” Well guess what he plays 5 yds off the line. HE has to first keep containment on his side of the fiels then shift in to make the tackle that the d-line missed.

OMG, Rick get real. The offense should be built around the franchise player. Exactly what do you think Bill Walsh was doing when he created the WCO?? It was designed around a specific type of QB - the one he had!!!! There is no commandment that another offensive scheme cannot be created for the most unique QB in NFL history! the Falcons need an OC who is innovative and up to the challenge of working with the improv king of the NFL. SI has a great article about this very problem. Some of you should read it.

STL,
Yeah, and when we were 5 - 2 (and 6 - 2 last season). Winning cures everything. Let’s make it happen - Falcons need to quit underachieving and put together a complete game this Saturday. And Falcons fans need to be in red and black and at their seats (standing and screaming) at kick-off (instead of half-way thru the first quarter)!

Knapp is the best OC we have had since the Lehman Bennett days…. What we need are recievers that can catch the ball. They don’t need to run a 4.3 forty…I’ll take a 4.6 guy that can catch. How about a reciever who will compete for the ball when it is in the air not one who won’t lay out if the ball is 2 feet out in front of him. How ‘bout the front office getting a couple of possession recievers or tackles to block . These 2 things will help Vick more than a new system. Getting rid of Knap is not the answer!!!!!

You folks are funny. You keep saying things like: “What we need are recievers that can catch the ball.” WE HAVE THE PLAYERS, WE NEED A TEAM. THAT STARTS WITH A GOOD HEAD COACH. “There is no commandment that another offensive scheme cannot be created for the most unique QB in NFL history!” MOST UNIQUE….IS THAT GOOD OR BAD????? “Some people say the scheme has to fit MV better. Ok, we all know any starting QB is one sack away from being out for the season. Then we have to reinvent the offense to fit Schaub?” MV7 IS THE MOST UNIQUE QB IN NFL HISTORY…SO HE NEEDS A unique offense. SCHAUB OR SHOCKLEY ARE NORMAL SO WOULD USE NORMAL A PLAYBOOK.

Why all this race talk? I thought this was a forum to discuss the ups and downs of the Falcons. I don’t see players as black or white——I see professionals playing together to win and we as fans supporting or venting our thoughts. Michael Vick is no more a black man than keith Brooking is a whitey, instead they are teammates trying to beat Dallas this weekend. Lets get back to that.
If someone is foolish enough to hire Knapp out from under us then he should grab the job with both hands and go. I think just about any one could do the job better than he has. There has to be a problem when the offense isn’t putting up points and our red zone numbers are almost last in the league. Warren Moon, or my old elementary principal Mr. Moon would be a better choice.
Go birds——-we are big time behind you’ll this weekend and will make some freaking noise in section 221 to show our support!!!!!

Knapp is not the problem. We have 4 first round catchers (Crump, Lelie, White, and Jenkins) on this team and MV still cant get them the ball. He still hasnt learned how to protect the ball when he’s runnin around either. We have seen the best that we’re going to get with MV, and it’s not too great. 150 yds passing with per game with 1 TD and 2 INTs is not going to get us to the Super Bowl. Take off your black homie glasses people and wake up!

I can’t believe you fans still think it’s a coaching issue. Michael Vick is too short (5’10”), his receivers play hot potato with the ball when it actually gets to them, Warrick Dunn was/is average at best (check the stats, he’s not elite, he has not been in the top 5 in rushing or touchdowns at any point in his career), defensive line is decimated, and DeAngelo Hall couldn’t hold Deon Sanders jock. Stop thinking the Atlanta Falcons have “great” players and lousy coaches, I would tend to think it’s the other way around.

This is stupid. What started as a blog about the birds has now gone to race blaming.
John C. Dumbass makes a race comment and you suckers take the bait. This is the first blog I’ve read in about a year and this exactly why I don’t read them.
As a coach I can tell you that very few bloggers really know anything about the game, so let me help you. Individual inconsistency is the fault of the player. Team inconsistency is the fault of the coach, period. The Falcons have TEAM inconsistency. I am not in favor of firing Mora but the OC needs to change and they need to get an NFL offense.

Think about this gang; If our receivers caught 50 to 60 percent of the ones that they have dropped, Knapp would be a genius and the falcons would probably be 10 and 3. It’s not Knapp’s fault. I love football and I watch it enough to guess what the other team is going to do most of the time. Greg is no different. With all of these coaches being predictable, the only thing that seperates them is the execution or lack there of from their players.

Oh the answer to our prayers…please, please LEAVE Knapp, don’t let the door hit you on the way out. I’m sure he’s very nice, but nice don’t win in the NFL. See Bill’s Parcells & Belichek. A 3rd grader could call a better offensive plan than that dunderhead. And I thought Dan Reeves was predictable with his draw play obsessions, this was worse than that!! Nobody could be worse than this guy, Elmo the offensive coordinator. And Jimmy will never fire his bestest bud, so this is the best thing, please take the damn jobbbbbb. Go Birds. Get the Eye of the Tiger & don’t let it go!

The ‘black homie’ thing was just dumb. Keith Brooking absolutely BITES A$$ but none of you will acknowledge that, Patrick Kerney doesn’t deserve a big contract because he can’t makew a play unless he’s piggybacking off of another player’s doubleteam, and BRIAN FINNERAN being you best WR shows how pitiful your WRs really are because he sucks. Now, anyone who supports Knapp is only doing it to try tro blame Vick. If you know anything about Falcons football, or watch Falcons football with an intelligent eye, you know that when Crumpler goes in motion to the left, the Falcons are running Dunn off tacke, not cutbacks, when he goes right, its the off tackle with the cutback lanes. 1st down is always a run, second down is a stupid pass play (short curls) or a dive play and third down is a panic pass play, and third and longer than 13 yards is a draw play. Now, I have just called out the playbook, the guy sucks…..

I disagree about Brooking and Kerney. While neither is a super star, thye’ve been consistent contributors to the team. Getting rid of knapp may help, but it is only a small part of making the Falcons better. Improved play calling is not going to help if the plays are properly and effectively executed. Mike needs a bigger O-Line. The Secondary is in shambles and I’m not going to even comment on the WRs play. Mr. Blank is no fool. He knows that Mike needs the RIGHT personnel to take the Falcons to a championship. For you Vick detractors, who cares what you think. You’re NEVER going to get your way. Mike isn’t going anywhere. Get over it. GO VICK! GO FALCONS!

John C. Fremont you are a complete IDIOT and embarrassment to the white race this blog had nothing to do with race but about football which you obviously don’t know CRAP about so you throw the topic off. because your white trash azz has nothing better to do.
So let this white girl school your ignorant dumb AZZ! I don’t know what games you people watch but I am a season ticket holder and sit 7 rows from the field and see the problems clear as day. So John C take your aluminum foil off your antenna and adjust your 13 inch tv if you have electic in your trailer!
The falcons lack LEADERSHIP! The offensive coordinator has made horrible calls and does not know what teams we should run the ball against or pass. Prime example is Detroit they rank last in stopping the run and we are the number 1 rushing team knapp did not take advantage of that and it was obvious by the play calling then the outcome. He also admitted that he doesn’t want Mike V. audible and guess what Dan Reeves said on a talk show the other day “Mike V needs to be audible” all the successful teams in the NFL are! We should have picked up a reputable coach like Lovie Smith instead of pull half azz coaches from a loosing San Francisco team! If we still have problems with a reputable coach that has a winning record then the fingers will be pointed elsewhere!

Mora is a real Moron at head coach for the Falcons. Of course Jim Mora would not say that he is interested in another job if he didn’t KNOW that he was going to get fired should the Falcons lose to the Cowboys on Saturday, which they will. If Mora’s team loses on Saturday he realizes that he is going directly to the unemployment line if Arthur Blank has anything to do with it. Mora has had enough time to turn things around. Last year the Falcons finished 8-8 and it looks like this year the’re headed to going 7-9. I also think that Jim Mora is fearful of his job, he knows that he will be fired soon, thus he will be available for any upcoming coaching postions that might be on the horizon. I expect Mora to get fired if the Falcons don’t reach the playoffs. I expect Mora to get fired if the Falcons don’t beat the Cowboys on Saturday. In fact I will put myself on a limb to say that if the Falcons don’t get to the Superbowl, and win that Superbowl game, Mora SHOULD GET FIRED because the head coach was incapable of getting the team to reach its true potential.
