Vick’s flipped
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I don’t care how frustrated Michael Vick was or what was said to him as he walked off the field yesterday. Flipping off fans is unacceptable.
In fact, I was so surprised that I didn’t believe he had done it until I saw the picture.
It’s certainly no way to win fan support, especially in a time when the team is playing so poorly.
Whether Vick likes it or not, we fans pay a lot of money to watch him and the Falcons play — and to win, and when that doesn’t happen, we get frustrated.
Yesterday’s loss was not Vick’s fault, but as the leader of this team, he needs to display more discipline and not lower himself to a heckler’s level.
Fire away
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I don’t know what’s wrong with the Falcons, but they’ve lost whatever heart they had. There is no excuse for their performance today.
Where to start:
— Vick had to run for his life the entire game because the offensive line was attrocious.
— The receivers were even worse. Vick isn’t a good passer, and he was off several times today, but the receivers could have bailed him out and didn’t. Their poor play even brought Mora to his knees when Roddy White dropped that ball when he was wide open.
— Offensive play-calling stunk again, and Knapp should be fired! The Falcons were playing against the worst rush defense in the league, yet Knapp called three passing plays in a row in the red zone. We’ve got to be able to bang the ball in when we get close to the goal line.
— We got very little pressure on Brees, and our secondary was horrible as usual. Donatell should be fired, too.
— And finally. Mora should be fired because this team is horrible. I’m tired of hearing him complain of a lack of consistency and wishing he had all his “bullets” as he did in his pre-game interview.
It’s ultimately his job to get the team prepared, no matter who is suiting up, and he isn’t getting it done.
This season is toast, and I’m really mad I wasted a beautiful Sunday watching them.
By the way, any racist comments will not be tolerated and will be deleted in their entirety from this blog.
No more excuses
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I would like to think that we won’t see a repeat of the Saints game earlier this season, but with the way our team has played lately, I’m not too confident.
I know Mora has to try to keep a positive attitude and not panic, but I would like to see him at least acknowledge the fact that some major things (offensive play calling particularly) need to change.
Patrick Kerney said Monday morning on the radio that the Steelers lost four in a row last season and still won the Super Bowl.
I don’t know about the Super Bowl, but the Falcons have the talent to turn the season around.
Quit blaming injuries and get the job done.
By the way, we all need to cheer on the Redskins to beat the Panthers this weekend.
Go Falcons!
.500 and falling
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I’m not really surprised by the outcome, although I have to say that I was cautiously optimistic throughout most of the game, especially when the Ravens missed the first field goal.
The offense even had some big plays but couldn’t capitalize, which hurt our already depleted defense. They just wore down in the second half and let Baltimore control the ball.
This would have been a nice surprise. All losses hurt, but things aren’t looking good.
By the way, it made me sick to see Saint Ray on the sideline celebrating.
Come on, Falcons! We really need to win next week.
Time is now
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
This game scares me because of the way the Falcons have been playing. This should be a matchup of 7-2 teams, but the last two bad losses messed that up. But the Falcons could surprise some people, especially those guys on ESPN who said the Falcons were pretenders and not contenders. As bad as they’ve played, I know they can play better. It’s time to show it now against the Ravens.
The offensive line has struggled and that’s not a good sign when you have Ray Lewis on the other side. I hope the O-line figured out how to keep him away from Vick. Lewis is not the angel he looked like on the cover of Sports Illustrated recently. That made me laugh because he can hurt you.
Vick needs to lead some long scoring drives to keep McNair and Jamal Lewis off the field. Vick needs to lighten up on his throws and the receivers need to wake up and catch the ball, even if it’s not right to them. Go to the ball, don’t wait for it to get to you. Too many interceptions happen that way.
Go Falcons!
Horrible
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
It doesn’t get much more frustrating than this.
The Falcons didn’t look like they showed up ready to play and then made stupid mistakes like dropping passes (Lelie should have scored in the first half), interceptions and the big Vick fumble at the end after the big play to White.
The offensive play-calling was poor at best, and everyone looked like they were sleepwalking.
I hope Kerney isn’t hurt too bad (Carrington made some nice plays in his place), but it doesn’t look like it really matters because the Falcons are in a real funk with no signs of coming out of it any time soon.
It’s going to be especially tough with three of the next four on the road.
I hope Mora and the coaching staff can do something to jump-start the team this week. I know we have a lot of injuries, but so do all the other teams this time of year.
It’s time for someone to stand up and lead this team in the right direction.
Go Falcons!
Need this one
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I hope the Falcons will take the 2-6 Browns more seriously than they did the Lions. It won’t be easy though because we’re pretty banged up, but good teams play through injuries and find ways to win. The Falcons will show how good they are this week against a team we’re supposed to beat.
We have to rebound from the crappy performance against the Lions. Vick has to take care of the ball, and the receivers need to make plays. It’s going to hurt if Norwood doesn’t play.
D. Hall needs to let his play do the talking. Enough with the blabbering. I say this every game, but we have to get to the quarterback. So many times this season, we’ve been a step away from a sack and he ends up making a big play. We have to get there quicker.
See you at the Dome.
Go Falcons!
I was afraid of this…
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
This is what I was afraid of. A good defense is key to a playoff run. Doesn’t look like we’re going very far unless something changes with the defense.
No way we should have lost to the Lions. We’re a much better team than this.
Vick and the offense have been able to bail out the defense the past two weeks. Didn’t happen this week.
Once again, Vick doesn’t take care of the ball and it cost us points.
Need a win next week in the Dome.
Go Falcons!
Watch out for Lions
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Falcons are coming off two big wins and playing a 1-6 team at their place, but this game won’t be easy.
The Lions have given up a lot of points, and the way Vick and the offense have been playing, there’s no reason they shouldn’t rack up a lot of points Sunday in Detroit. I just hope they don’t get overconfident and look past this game. Any game on the road in the NFL is going to be a battle. And Detroit is coming off a bye week, so they’ve had some time to plan for this one.
We can’t let Roy Williams have his way in the secondary. Jason Webster has to get better or he needs to sit. These breakdowns in the secondary can’t happen. The defensive line has to get pressure on the quarterback like they did in the second half against the Bengals.
Just a quick look-back: I think it’s great that Chad Johnson shaved his mohawk. Maybe he’ll think before he speaks next time (doubt it!).
Go Falcons!
