No more excuses

I would like to think that we won’t see a repeat of the Saints game earlier this season, but with the way our team has played lately, I’m not too confident.

I know Mora has to try to keep a positive attitude and not panic, but I would like to see him at least acknowledge the fact that some major things (offensive play calling particularly) need to change.

Patrick Kerney said Monday morning on the radio that the Steelers lost four in a row last season and still won the Super Bowl.

I don’t know about the Super Bowl, but the Falcons have the talent to turn the season around.

Quit blaming injuries and get the job done.

By the way, we all need to cheer on the Redskins to beat the Panthers this weekend.

Go Falcons!

hopefully, the falcons will not agree prior to the game this time to let the saints block a punt in the beginning of the game to make the poor new orleans people feel good again. hopefully, when the falcons agreed to fix that play, they did so in exchange for a play that the saints would fix to the benefit of the falcons in this weekend’s game.

One thing is for sure though. I had better see a whole lot more out of vick this time than i saw the last time against the saints. Everyone said after the game, the receivers could not get open. BUT ask yourself this, if your remember that last game, how were the saints silmutaneously able to blitz vick like crazy, have outside containment and a spy on vick, and were also able to provide blanket coverage on every receiver and pass. Very strange and unusual for a team to be able to pull off all of those feats.

Brad,

You are a pathetic, paranoid, delusional moron and peckerwood! It makes me exultant to know that I’m not liked by one so reprehensible, ignorant and disgusting. The Saints kicked the Foulcons nasty butts down in the Crescent city and they’re going to do it again in the City too busy to think. The Foulcons are terrible and they’re getting worse. There’s dissension on that team and it’s coming to the fore now. Brees will shred them and you’ll be back on these boards talking “fix” again. You need to take some more of that psychotropic medication and talk with your therapist. By the way, I’m tapping your phone.

Mongo,

Thanks for the advice. For your information, I’ve been walking between drumsticks. The people in this neighborhood are almost as annoying as some of the idiots on this board. They all wave and shout out,” Happy Thanksgiving.” Bah! Tomorrow, they’ll greet me with “Merry Christmas.” Bah! I like Christmas caroling but not with a group. i work alone. For the past several years, I’ve gone caroling to the homes of friends and I made the mistake of calling ahead. When I got there all the lights were off but i could hear movement within. I know they were there. cowards! And I’m tired of being harassed by the cops. if michael Bolton can bludgeon ‘White Christmas,’ why can’t I offer my own unique, Christmas stylings? of course, now the cops shoot everybody, including ninety-two year old, invalid women. But, the hell with them. I’m going to let my freak flag fly and do my solo caroling. Mongo, do you like Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire? What’s your address? I can work you in next weekend. Any TRUE Falcon fan who does not think that Vick is the biggest waste of $140 million dollars is crazy. He has had 6 years to try and learn how to do the job, and he just doesn’t care enough to put the needed work into it. If Mora wasn’t afraid of the racial backlash he would have taken Vick out long ago, but if he were to replace Vick with Schaub the fans would go crazy because of the race card. The fact is is that Schaus has more potential as a NFL QB than Vick, but he will never get to show it for us. We get to watch MV7 keep our franchise down for 4 or 5 more years. GO DAWGS!!

By Blaney

November 23, 2006 09:45 PM | Link to this

Just read Mora the Younger’s comment that if he were to start a new franchise, Vick would be the first person he’d pick for the team.

Something ain’t right in Falconsville, and me thinks it smacks of an Arthur Blank edict that Vick is untouchable.

What a mess, Arthur, and it is all your fault.

For God’s sake man, the players see you as nothing more than a cash cow, so have some dignity and afford them some too by letting them do their job without your annoying presence.

Just watched Dallas versus Tampa Bay.

It was so strange. The Dallas receivers kept getting open; the QB kept throwing passes directly into their hands. The OL blocked and most plays were executed flawlessly. Has anyone told the Falcons that this is how you play football? They seem totally unaware of this rather sophisticated concept.

VABirdDawg, I think you may be a little off. When you say he doesn’t work hard. I have been to every training camp the Falcons have had since he has been here. I lived In my mobile home when they were at the university. So I have hd the opportunity to see his work habits, Have You?? The next thing is Mike has not played for 6 years only 4. And the money that was paid to him Mr. Blank may have earned most of that back, via ticket sales clothing. etc. Remember Mr Blank is a business man he didn’t reach his level of income NOT knowing what he’s doing. He also didn’t draft Mike Vick Remember? I don’t have a problem with what he earns, and you shouldn’t either until you have to sign his checks, and if you reply you buy tickets that’s simple, don’t buy tickets, he still wouldn’t miss a dime. Also I know you didn’t go to Georgia, because we know football and we know it’s a team sport, and race is a non issue.

Also do you have any stats on Schaub, even college would be nice. I look forward to your reply please. Since you did mention race are there any minority QB you like, if so name one or two any why?

I look forward to your reply.

You need to read Jason Whitlock’s (AOL Sports) from online today. He is a black journalist so there is no race card to play here. Jason makes it very clear that Mike Vick is a huge disappointment but if the coaches try to help him or the fans take issue with his performance, then it becomes a race factor when it is really no such thing. There are too many people enabling Vick and making excuses for him. People are simply voicing their opinions and disatisfaction with a player that does not work hard enough and does not heed the need to improve in areas where he is lacking, namely how to throw the football, how to hold it, how to audible, how to read defenses and how to shoulder the blame just as he takes the credit. Whitlock points out that we have seen the best of Michael Vick; there will be moments of running greatness but if a change is not made soon, the season is over. Jim Mora needs to have the guts to sit this guy down if he does not perform up to the pay scale that he is on. No one is going to burn down Atlanta if Vick has to sit out a game. Be real, people.

ramabama, There are no audibles in the falcons “O” the only thing they can audible is the direction of the run from one side too the other. when greg knapp was with the 49ers jeff garcia didnt audible there either. get vick a #1 reciever, a o-line,and fire knapp then see what he does.get the man some tools.if he cant do it then bench him. and who the hell is Jason Whitlock I read his post and that guy is just stupid

Second, I can’t believe the ajc let racist remarks on this blog. Vick may or may NOT be too short, too bad of a passer, too careless when running the football, etc, but his skin color has nothing to do with any of that, morons.

screw you whitlock. when you got canned by espn, you implied racism. you called out lupica. i hate lupica. but lupica is essentially the coach of the sports reporters and you would not go with the program JW, therefore you were a coach killer on espn. in fact, you called out the espn brass in a rather vile manner in a way that vick has never called out the brass in charge of the falcons. so, stop being a hypocrite whitlock. the reality is that you are essentially a coach killer, show killer, network killer yourself and that is why you are now stuck for writing for a sinking ship (AOL) and you are perpetually stuck writing in a hack city like kansas city. Work on your physical appearance whitlock. When you appeared on sports reporters you looked even more slovenly than jamie dukes does on sports nite every night on css. And then even when you had insightful things to say, you are not articulate enough to be able to express your views in a respectable manner that lets anyone know you have anything to say or write or that you are compelling enough to watch on espn or any other media outlet. Burn some more bridges Whitlock. At least MV7 does not throw his teammates and coaches and bosses under the bus like you whitlock. you criticize vick but then lend support in the very same article to randy moss. you say that moss’ lack of performance is poor game planning but then think that vick can not blame poor coaching and poor game planning for his lack of consistent performance. you criticize vick for only 117 yards passing against green bay in that playoff game but then forget how vick looked in that eagles game that year and how he looked against st. louis two years later in the playoffs and you seem to forget everything vick did to get the falcons to the playoffs in those two years and when you criticize vick for his passing you forget that you have to count his rushing yardage when you determine his effectiveness because essentially vick is throwing screen passes to himself when he runs whereas QBs like Brees have to make a living dumping balls to LT & Bush & Deuce. and nobody forgets that you always stick up for jeff george despite what a terrible waste of talent he was only because you were a high school teammate of jeff george.

and then to read your comments that mcnabb’s injury will be this great blessing because he will become a pocket passer and will not run anymore. WRONG! as a pocket passer, mcnabb may bery well become the equal of brady and peyton. BUT will that bring him and the eagles the success they have had to this point in his career? NO! he made it to four straight conference championship games and a super bowl because he could run which made him the most dynamic QB in the game at the time. it is becoming increasigly clear when reading your articles that you are going through some type of identity crisis with yourself right now whitlock. you are a black man who seems like he is not proud to be a black man in today’s world. every article you write and every rant you express is making this abundantly clear. thus why you want black QBs who can run to not run anymore because that is too hip hop and too bojangling for you. they need to just sit back there like bledsoe and peyton and brady and just get hammered when things do not go well. we once had a a QB in this town who brought us to the super bowl and then handed the reigns over to vick who was exactly what everyone says vick and the black QBs should be: Stand in the pocket and be a pocket passer. AND chandler was a very serviceable when healthy. But therein lies the problem. He was never healthy. In fact, we called him chris chandelier because he got hurt more often standing in that pocket than vick has ever gotten hurt scrambling around.

Whitlock, yes, there are problems with things in black culture. BUT you do not need to disown everything black because you no longer like the color of your skin, that is, if you ever liked the color of your skin. your skin color sees to be a big problem in your mind. judging from your rants against black players and the like and your rants against ESPN, the employer who fired you, WHitlock you apparently hate being black.

By dan

The Falcons have a small window of opportunity to capitalize on Vick’s abilities, considering the constant beating he takes for being a scrambling quarterback. Tom Brady had three Super Bowls by his sixth year. Ben Roethlisberger has a ring after just two years in the league. And it’s not because the Patriots and the Steelers rode the shoulders of their quarterbacks (as the coaching staff has done with Vick); it’s because they relied on a clearly defined philosophy and a system that incorporated all team members.

The Falcons had a great coach with a sound philosophy that actually got them to the Super Bowl (without Vick) in 1998. And Dan Reeves was in the process of building another Super Bowl team when he was cut off by an ambitious owner determined to take the team in a new direction. Forget that Reeves traded up to the No. 1 spot to draft Vick, as well as acquiring Kerney, Brooking, Crumpler and Justin Griffith. The pieces that Reeves assembled still serve as the long-term face of the Falcons. Atlanta might have had its Super Bowl by now. Instead, they are an ultra-talented team without a sense of direction.

Whitlock, an Uncle Tom? Let’s see, Uncle Tom is code for a black person who thinks for him/her self, can speak proper English and doesn’t hate people based upon the color of their skin. That’s really the problem you folks have with Mr. Whitlock, isn’t it? He has the temerity and unmitigated gall to express his feelings about Michael Vick and he isn’t fawning all over him. That breaks the code, doesn’t it? Black man criticisizing revered black athlete. What’s next, young blacks professing dislike of hip-hop music? This could reach intolerable levels. Better knock it down now! If you don’t, first thing you know the young black people will be judging others by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin. Imagine if the term “oreo” were retired and people could be anything they wanted on the inside. Mr. Whitlock made good points and they are accurate. Mike Vick is the most over-rated player ever in the NFL. He’s, also, getting close to being done. He will be out of the league before he’s thirty!

Vick’s performance this year guarantees that the Falcons will match any offer for Schaub unless it is a crazy $$ amount and would get a 1st and 3rd pick in return. This is especially true if there is a coaching change on the horizon. No coach worth a crap will want to walk into this mess with Vick and the fan base split down the middle. The fans need to STAY away from the Dome if they blow this game with the Saints. Until Blank sees his investment nose-diving nothing will change. We (the fans) have to move this along SO let’s vote with our wallets. The team simply won’t/can’t win with this QB and this coaching staff.

Talons of fire,

Vick won’t ever live up to expectations and he won’t ever take the Falcons to a Superbowl. He will always be one of the worst QB’s in the league because, quite frankly, he sucks. What’s worse is that as a Falcons fan I know that people like you will always give Vick a pass and you will never accept that he just isn’t any good. It will always be some one else’s fault for Vick’s poor performance.

Some times people like yourself make me want to root for another team, but I can’t because I am from Atlanta and I don’t identify with any other city. Unfortunately I love the game, but idiots like yourself just can’t accept that we have the most expensive bust in the history of the NFL. I don’t know if Schaub is the answer he could suck just as much as Vick, but I do know that as long as Vick is the QB the Falcons will never be a true contender.

It is not a black/white issue, it’s a good/bad issue. Vick is bad. Vick can’t read a defense and he can’t throw accurately enough when his receivers are wide open to hit them with any consistency. You and your fellow Vick cheerleaders have no clue. Vick will go his entire career as a bad QB and you will still talk about how great he is/was. Just accept it that the Mike Vick experiment has been a disaster and lets move on because that won’t happen until Arthur Blank gets the message that his product isn’t selling.

We need to get back to running the ball more, we have the personell and the tools to pound the ball and controll the clock. Vick is a great player but he cant do it all.injury’s have have hurt the defence but thats not good enough in the NFL you have to find bodies that want to fill those holes, those are the players that want to play the game and will work hard for that position. We also need better offencive call playing. Charles if “idiots” like you want to root for another team, it’s a matter of choice. It doesn’t have a dayum thing to do with me. That’s just a pizz poor excuse for a pizz poor fan. Just because people like YOU, think Vick is “bad” does not make it so. These words on this blog are OPINIONS. We have different OPINIONS. I’m from Atlanta as well and know up close and personal that Vick gives the Falcons their best chance to win. Unlike people such as yourself, I realize HE can’t do it alone.

“Vick will go his entire career as a bad QB and you will still talk about how great he is/was.”

How in the hell do you know this? If you have some special power of precognition, then you are wasting your talents blogging. You should run right out and play the lottery, get rich and perhaps you can buy the team from Blank and call all of the shots. If you don’t want to support the Falcons just say so, but don’t try and use lame azz excuses for your choice. Oh and you and your Vick haters are myopic and narrow minded. I guess since you have Deity like qualities, you feel empowered and, therefore, your word is the absolute truth. Here’s a little secret for ya my “fellow” Atlantan, nothing you say is going to affect, Vick, Blank, the Falcons nor me. Get over it! LMAO @ you!

Steve Wyche:

Just wondering why, when Vick told you that the Falcons did not have any audibles to change a run to a pass or vice versa, that you did not go and ask Knapp- WHY? Or ask Blank-its his team. Surely he is just as curious as the fans are so he should know. This is a bigger secret than the Army's latest weapons. This is a simple question-surely there is a simple answer.

Football 101, in order for there to be a passing game you need 1) protection by the Oline, 2) receivers to get open, 3) qb to hit the open receiver, 4) open receiver to catch the ball, breakdowns in any one of the areas leads to a bad passing game. I have seen alot of Oline breakdowns, and dropped passes that were touchdowns, and dropped passes that were first downs. If our receivers had only caught the balls that hit them in their hands and Im talking about both hands, right between the numbers, the falcons record would be 7 and 3. Who out there can deny that?

Whatever happen to the days of flash. It’s pretty clear that vick is having trouble finding the open reciever. So lets put him as a reciever like kordell stewart, or randle el. Maybe even running back. That’s the main problem. He just needs to be used correctly. Matt schaub to michael vick sounds good to me. FALCON4LIFE!

For those people that like passing stats: More evidence that good running beats good passing: The Saints’ Drew Brees threw for 908 yards the past two weeks — including an NFL-high 510 against Cincinnati. The Saints lost both games.

Give me a break! Not to mention an absolute expert on what’s good and bad about Mike Vick’s ability as a QB. You, Whitlock and TTCO can pontificate until it snows in hell, but Mike Vick will be the QB for the Falcons and will outlast all of your negative criticisms and subjective prognostications. Get use to it.

You get used to this, Mr. Blank has seen enough and he’s tired of what he’s witnessing. The team sucks and lots of the blame belongs to Vick. Romo has started five games and he’s thrown thirteen touchdown passes. Vick’s started ten and he’s thrown thirteen. By the way, how yo mammy is?

Talon of sparkles,

Your insults are almost as humorous as your blind, silly and simplistic support of a very bad quarterback, Vick. He is terrible and he’s playing his way out of Atlanta. Whether you approve or not, Vick will soon be reclining on the pine and that’s where he belongs. You are an idiot for trying to tell us he’s great. We all see he’s a fumbling moron who can’t pass the football with any accuracy. We also see you are an apologist for him. You want to blame everything but the right thing. Vick is what’s wrong with the Foulcons and imbeciles like you are the bane of this blog. Get a life Gayboy.

I don’t regret anything I said on that blog. Giving Republicans/Nazis a dose of truth is rewarding. Now do you have anything to say about the Foulcons or are you here to instigate? This year is the sixth year I have bought season tickets. I gave my brother in-law my tickets to today’s game.

I struggled for a moment with the fact that I bought four sets of season tickets this year at a price of $79.00 per ticket per game. That might not be alot of money to some folks, but it is to me.

I realize the fans are supposed to support the home team, but how can you justify paying $79.00 for a ticket, fighting traffic, paying $8.00 for a hotdog, and blowing an entire afternoon just for repeated sub-par performances like we have been witnessing this year?

We are not getting what we pay for. Who is to blame for that? A whole bunch of folks. I wonder if the folks in the know have an idea how the paying public feels about the product they are trying to sell?

This has bacome a carnival act! The awful truth is Vick is a superior square peg trying to fit in the round position of NFL QB. Blank doesn’t help matters by standing on the sideline with games on the line yakking at Mora,I just can’t honestly evaluate the coachs with a qb whos talents are so out of line with what it takes to operate a conventional nfl offense, even so at some point something differant will have to be tried that most likely means a new head coach.

By Jack

November 26, 2006 02:44 PM | Link to this

The whole f———ing thing is pathetic. Zero creativity on offense- just let our best RB (7) take off. A joke all the way around. A Hail Mary !! very nice - just when you figure the secondary couldn’t get worse. This staff should be fired TOMORROW for this public embarrassment at home. Arthur - How much more do you need to see?

By Voice Of Reason

November 26, 2006 03:04 PM | Link to this

OK, now looking at this debacle, I have to hang my head in unbelief. The only reason Vick runs for so many yards is that he cannot spot his receivers. No fire whatsoever in his eyes or body language. I am beginning to think he is only out there for a paycheck, all of them for that matter. When will they wake up and play fired up football?

The reason I see that the receivers drop so many balls is that most of the passes are darts with no touch. Also spinning counterclockwise, which may be more difficult to catch without the ball having some touch.

Greg Knapp obviously does not know what he is doing, and Mora does not have the guts to can him.

Mr. Blank will however take care of this after a few more games like this one.

My advice, trade Vick for a few good football players like Dallas traded Herschel Walker. Super bowl was in the making with that trade.

By marbo

November 26, 2006 03:16 PM | Link to this

I don’t give a flying f*** which way the ball is spinning. Do you mean to tell me that Mike Jenkins shouldn’t have catch that damn football. He is getting paid millions also, let’s not forget that.

I am a calmer person at this point. I realize that the falcons will not make the playoffs this year. I also realize that mike vick makes mistakes and he takes stupid chances. But i also realize that other than Alge Crumpler, he is do it all by himself. True Schaub might throw more with more accuracy, but damn might vick gives his all on the field and he takes a hell of a lot of hits and those damn receivers refuse to catch the ball. The play calling is atrocious, and the offensive line is even worse. I wish he would go to another team because he will never be a tradional passer but if he is put in a position where an offensive coordinator can design an offense for him he will be unstoppable. I see the potential, i see the flaws, someone is going to take advantage of it all one day and own the league because of it. I know i am going on and on but it helps to heal the hurt. I just think these coaches are not tough enough for this team. They need to get in Mike Vick’s a* and force him to be better. The way that Dan Reeves was doing. He was not in awe of Vick’s skills. Roody white is full of s**, Mike Jenkins is full of s**, Lelie is full of s**, the offensive line and passing blocking are two separate conversations. I LOVE the Falcons but i cant stand this type of a* whooping.

This team sucks worse than any I have seen in Atlanta and I was at the first game in 67 and have watched almost every one since. What a damn bunch of punk a$$ jokes these thugs are! They can all go to hell as far as I care I wont support them anymore until some MAJOR changes are made. Poor decisions by D. backs especially D.HALL, STONE HANDED RECIEVERS, ABSENT MINDED QUARTERBACK WHO IS A GREAT RUSHER AND NEEDS TO PLAY TAILBACK IN AN I FORMATION, PLAYERS WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE LEADERS ON THE FIELD P** AND MOANING LIKE A BABY IE CRUMPLER, VICK AND HALL, COACHES THAT ARE AFRAID TO MAKE THE PROPER MOVES DUE TO MAKING THIER JOB A POPULARITY CONTEST WHAT A FREAKING JOKE! Mr. Blank this team needs a complete overhaul and you should start this afternoon! Demand changes on the field for next weeks game I mean what have you got to lose at this point. You know these guys suck so give some others a chance like D.J. or Matt. I know the coaches arent the best but hell they cant THINK for the lame A$$ players out on the field!

By TTCO

November 26, 2006 04:40 PM | Link to this

And another thing the game of football should not be changed just to accommodate Mike Vick. He is not a Quarterback he is better suited to be a tailback. For 6 years the Falcons have tried to create an offense to go with his skills and guess what folks IT HAS NOT WORKED YET NO MATTER WHAT THEY TRY! It is way past time to sit his a$$ down and try some REAL pro offensive schemes! I havent checked yet but it was late in the 4th and he didnt have 100 yards passing again HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A PRO QUARTERBACK AND DOSENT THROW FOR A HUNDRED YARDS? PATHETIC! Yes there was 3 balls that should have been caught but there were about 10 that couldnt have been caught!

By Dave

This game had everything. Dropped passes, missed scoring opportunities, bad play calling, a punt returner playing cornerback,oh and let’s not forget a Hail Mary with the entire defense standing around watching the N.O. receiver catching the ball and finally a p**-off owner prowling the sidelines. I would hate to be Jim Mora about now. Let’s see if Arthur has the guts to pull the plug on this sorry enterprize known as the 2006 edition of the Atlanta Falcons and get rid of Jim Mora, Greg Knapp and the entire friggin receiver corps.

Well, the apathy has finally sunk in. That’s to the point of “why should I spend my hard earned bucks working 9 to 5 watching a sorry bunch of multi-millionaires who gives excuses out the wazzo!” I waisted another Sunday, again, and again…NO MORE!!!! If the falcon organization can’t give others the oppertunity to actually see what they can do, they deserve for the likes of Brett Farve, ect.. to get away from their orginazation. I’d rather rake leaks than see my money and time be spent one more day asking and begging forothers to get a chance. Vick, besides his “Free Bird” salute was doing everything he could do with his legs, but even with the drops by recievers his inconsistantcy is so apparant, even the fans from are most hated rivalry feels sorry for us. Last comment…last time…why not line up Vick at wide reciever(use his legs), put Shaub or D.J. in andgive them an oppertunity, just to see what they can do, before they get away without doing more than holding clipboards. If Blank gave a head coaching job, to someone nobody even really knew much about….why not do the same with the players. CAN IT REALLY GET ANY WORSE???

Geez, with all of the hoopla after the Falcons loss in New Orleans, and the accusations that the “fix was in” - we have yet another pitiful performance by the Falcons.

That “fix” must have included a sweep of the Falcons, a sweep of the Bucs, dethroning Philly. NFL defenses must have been told to lay down and let Brees pick them apart.

The sad truth if you’re a Falcon fan is that this year the birds suck big time. Ditto for the Bucs and Philly too.

The Saints have kicked some butt this year, and they’ve also had their butts kicked.

That’s the NFL - to win you have to have good coaching, players with a passion and the will to win. As a team the Falcons don’t have any of that.

Unless of course the “fix is in”

LMAO - see ya’ll next year ! ! !
