Time is now
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
This game scares me because of the way the Falcons have been playing. This should be a matchup of 7-2 teams, but the last two bad losses messed that up. But the Falcons could surprise some people, especially those guys on ESPN who said the Falcons were pretenders and not contenders. As bad as they’ve played, I know they can play better. It’s time to show it now against the Ravens.
The offensive line has struggled and that’s not a good sign when you have Ray Lewis on the other side. I hope the O-line figured out how to keep him away from Vick. Lewis is not the angel he looked like on the cover of Sports Illustrated recently. That made me laugh because he can hurt you.
Vick needs to lead some long scoring drives to keep McNair and Jamal Lewis off the field. Vick needs to lighten up on his throws and the receivers need to wake up and catch the ball, even if it’s not right to them. Go to the ball, don’t wait for it to get to you. Too many interceptions happen that way.
Go Falcons!

Great blog Bird Babe except for one thing Vick is not throwing the ball as hard as you say and some of the media is saying, for one those are professionals, their job is to catch the ball and second, in 2002 all he threw were 95mph fast balls and Trevor Gaylor and Quentin McCord had no problem catching his balls and they are no longer in the league. It’s 2006, he’s matured, he’s taking a little off his throws, he’s putting touch on his throws and these receivers are still dropping balls. I listen to former football players who played receiver and current players. When you have former players like a Michael Irvin, Andre Rison, and Terence Mathis who said if they were to play with Vick back in the day they would have no problem catching his balls, and you have current players like Torry Holt who played with Vick in the probowl and he said that Vick balls are no different than any other QB, that he catches his balls with no problem, that says one thing that these receivers are not doing the job and that they got to get their sh!t together or they will trade up to get Calvin Johnson next year and they will trade Matt Schaub for Randy Moss in the offseason. Like how I got that inside information huh? I know you do. HOLLA! GO FALCONS! GO VICK!

vick does not need to lighten up on any of his throws. just go back to the old run the ball down the throat of the defense, mix in a pass or two when needed and we will it all this year, i promise you. is norwood going to be back for this game? if i were the falcons, i would see if jackson can be the short yardage and red zone RB they need to push piles and get that much needed yardage they have needed all season on 3rd and 2, 4th and 1, and in the redzone. for all of the greatness of dunn, he is like barry sanders, tiki barber, and marshall faulk in that he is essentially useless from a pound the run standpoint in the redzone and in short yardage. i have not seen the falcons use norwood in those situations. in the preseason, i recall norwood pulling off some good plays in those situations. perhaps, if he is healthy, he can provide that to the falcons. maybe they can get the Bus out of retirement for the last seven games and use him the way the steelers did, i think the falcons would be in great shape. it will not happen. but i think a critical component that this team is missing is the TJ Duckett/Bettis type guy who can move piles. I think that if they had a big pounder in the short yardage and red zone situations, they would be looking at somewhere between a 6 to 10 point differential with that kind of back for those situations. they lost ducket, who for all his faults and injuries, was good for about one touchdown in the red zone every other game and at least one critical third down/fourth down conversion which extends drives and keeps the other team off the field and keeps MV7 out of those situations where he has to make a pass to receivers who either can’t get adequate separation from the receivers or just can’t catch the ball. do the math and you will see that by losing duckett we lost the equivalent of 3.5 points per game in redzone touchdowns, and maybe another point or two by extending drives in short yardage situations, and maybe another point or two by keeping the ball of the field. lelie has not made up for that loss of production. why are the skins not playing duckett, BTW? what really is the deal with duckett? will he play more with portis on the shelf for the season?
just heard schlereth on espn radio say that you can’t blame vick because his receivers are brutal.
Maddenking, i thought you were done posting for the day. you can probably do more good for your rim business though by spreading the word on here all day than by actually working. it can’t be that hard to hang a rim or two anyway. BTW, maddenqueen, they are not going to trade schaub in the offseason because schaub will be a free agent this offseason. So, your inside information is bogus and silly kind of like your claims to actually being friends with MV7 and DJ.

Hey Y’all:
Yes, the time is NOW!!! And I belive Vick and the Falcons will come through. The players know they have the personnel to reck havoc on the Ravens offense and defense. They must open up all the playbooks for this one. They have to play crazy and talk a lot of SH-T out there on Sunday and not be fazzled by Ray Lewis’ sh-t talking. They must ATTACK and stay focus on the game. Our offensive line must trap block the heck out of the Raven’s defense and fight like hell to pass protect for Vick. Our running backs need to stay attentive to the field and BUST a lot of long runs on this blitzing defense. Take it to them and play FAST all through the game. Don’t slack up for nothing. Let the other team know that they are in for a DAMN DOG FIGHT!!!! Let this be who the Falcons are for the rest of the season. A bunch of “FIGHTIN JUNKYARD DOGS”!!!! Don’t give a Hoot about who is in front of THEM. BITE THE HELL OUT OF THEM!!!!!
GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!
SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! This is a secret. Don’t tell nobody.

First off Kenny D##k when you own your own business I pay people to work and I oversee everything that they do, that doesn’t take much so I can get on this blog and type to people like you, it’s my hobby and it kills time. If you owned your own business which I can take a good guess that you don’t then you would realize that the owner loves what he do and he sets his business up to where it is not a 9-5 to him everyday and I can do what I want.
Now as for Schaub my info. is legit, Schaub is a restricted free agent, not unrestricted free agent which meens the Falcons can match what ever offer the other team is giving Schaub and if they do that the only way the other team can get Schaub is if they give up a 1st round draft pick for him. The only way the Falcons will not match a deal the other team is offering is if the other team offers Schaub an unbelievable deal like a 5 to 6 year 50 million dollar contract or something like that, because Vick has a 10 year 135 million dollar contract and no team is commiting 200 million dollars on two QB’s and one of them is on the bench, that would make the Falcons the most stupid franchise on earth if they did that. And what team would commit 50 Million to a QB who is 0-3 lifetime and has never started a whole season, remember the A.J. Feely deal and how that turned out. HOLLA! GO FALCONS! GO VICK!

This is indeed a make a break game but I think it’s moreso for a lot of coordinators. The offensive/defensive playcalling has been suspect to say the least. The adjustments normally come about too late to make a difference. This is a game where I think you come out with your 15 best plays that have worked and even those that haven’t and you see where the loopholes are in the defense and go from their with your gameplan. Defense as much as we like that zone coverage we have to mix in more man packages. You have to see if these guys can actually cover somebody so when the draft comes along you have a better idea of where you need to look. Mora is on the hotseat as well but Knapp and ole Dany boy need to bring their Tiger Woods “A” game unless they are intentionally trying to play themselves out of the ATL.

The bigger problem is that Vick is forcing his throws into coverage. He hesitates a lot on pass plays, and because of that hesitation, he is missing open receivers. I’ve seen him ignore an open Ashley Lelie on at least three separate occasions. Once the good throwing opportunities are gone, Mike is left with the choices of checking down to the back, forcing his throw into coverage, or running the ball. I don’t know why he is missing or ignoring these guys. Is he not confident in his ability to time a pass properly? Are the open receivers hidden from his view?

O actually expect the falcons to win this game because the Falcons seem to rise up to tougher competition and play down to less competition. The coaching staff seems to put together good game plans against better competition for some reason. I guess they take the Detriot’s and Brown’s type teams too easy.

ESPN never talks about how sorry our coaches are . Vick and the rest of the offense need to Talk to the coaches and call player and coaches about player not executing play and not staying focus. What do they do all week!Knapp need to call around the league and ask for help Lot’s of old coaches are out there to get help from. pay them. Blank when you hire a new coach have win incentive in the contractas Fan pay to much money for this. We need teacher and people who know how to exccute plats and how to keep player focus. Mora is a smoke blower and not a teacher!

the dunn off tackle/bootleg play action is getting way too predictable…the reeves scheme was better for vick because it kept him in the middle of the field in the pocket. if he scrambles, he’s not limited to half the field as in the bootleg play. mora and knapp has reduced vick’s scrambling ability by focusing too much on it. as i’ve said over and over steve young made a living off of scrambling from the pocket during passing plays. that’s vick’s best chance to run…scramble after your other targets are covered. if you put vick’s legs at the forefront of your offense, you take away from the rest of your offensive scheme. use vick’s legs as a bonus not as the whole playbook.

yeah madden king i was thinking the same thing if we get that 1st rounder for schaub we would have two first rounders and then we need to just cut hartwell just charge that to the game make brooking take a pay cut cut that excuse for a proffesional athelete webster and trade up to get calvin johnson or trade for randy i would rather trade for randy get another pass catching TE to open up the feild for Alge play lehr(aka king of the cut block) on running situations clabo or anderson on passing downs okay on to some defense use milloy and beck only on running downs if its a passing situation u go with d. hall(cb), c. crocker(ss) , j. williams(cb), o. lowe(fs)d. williams(olb), k. brooking(mlb) and boley(olb) and for gods sake please go and sign another corner that could help in the future not a old guy whos gonna be here for just gonna be here for one year

Lets just simply compare the maturation patterns of other successful QBs and make your own call as to Vicks likelyhood to “turn the corner” Mcnabb and Culpepper drafted only 2 years before Vick. Bulger and Brady 1 year Brees same year Carr and Harrington 1 year after, Palmer, Grossman and Leftwich 2 years after Manning Rivers and Rothlesburger 3 years after. Love him or hate him what you see is what you get, and don’t tell me about his teamates only Mcnabb and Big Ben have had seasons with more probowl teamates then Vick.
Reality is quite startling

So in all of the innmumerable practices Michael Vick throws the ball SOFTER than in games???
If you lollipop throws in the NFL you’re likely to get a score. An INT the other way for a TD or a WR nearly killed while waiting for the ball. Other teams wide outs manage to catch the ball.
In the Pro Bowl WR’s from other teams catch his passes. He’s intercepted and guys don’t drop them because the throws are “too hard” There’s a weak OL, a weak WR corps and a weak D. Know why????
Vick.

You didn’t make a mistake. You actually thought it was spelled Meens instead of Means.
Why don’t you do something positive for the black community instead of selling rims? All you are doing is perpetuating a stereotype that “brothas” are all about bling and no substance.
Why don’t you use your profits to buy some books for these clowns? You ain’t doing nothing for the community homey! But damn, they sho’ nuff look good. That’s what it’s all about, huh?

After last sunday I thought the Falcons didn’t have a chance in hell in beating the Ravens. Well since it looks like Ray Lewis is fresh out of out patient surgery I guess we do have a chance in hell. The Ravens’s D. is still stout and should be reckoned with, but their heart and soul is not out there representing. If the Falcons don’t score at least one touch down in the first quarter its gonna be a long day, and possibly a wrap for the season.

I’m convinced that the Steelers and Bengals did not respect Vick’s passing ability at all and that’s why Vick was able to throw it well. The Lions and Browns looked at that tape and said, “Okay. We’ll just take away his easy reads and see what he can do.” Well, we saw what Vick can do when a defense makes him go through progressions in the pocket: almost nothing. I blame the coaching staff as much as I blame Vick. Greg Knapp (more than any of us, although the flaws are obvious) should know what Vick can and can’t do. It’s his job to put Vick in the best position to be successful. He certainly hasn’t done that on a consistent basis. While I think Jim Mora and company should be booted out the door if this team continues to be inconsistent, I also think the Falcons have to look at trading Vick. I don’t give a damn how many people buy his jersey (I have one myself…) or how many butts he ostensibly puts in the seats. This man has not gotten better as a player. He doesn’t protect the ball, which is the most unforgivable sin for a quarterback. After all, he touches the ball on every play. There is absolutely no excuse for that and it’s one thing I would like to see eliminated from this team. In other words, either he starts valuing possession of the football or he’s gone. Period.

Anyone who thinks the Falcons are anything more than a 7-9 team is delusional. The Ravens will destroy the hopeless Falcons. The only two wins the Falcons will get will be against the Deadskins and the Yucks. That my friends is how pathetic our Atlanta Falcons have become. I am sick of this team. I am officially tuning out to the rest of the season.

Madden King, Even if you are correct, so what? Are you some sort of pious fanatic who believes all athletes should behave to your specifications? Many people have herpes, and to enlighten you, it’s very easy to contract, even with protection. For the sake of argument, let’s say Vick ghad it and gave it to someone else. You imply that he is somehow morally corrupt for doing this. If this is true, you must feel that the large portion of our society is morally lacking, because a large segment of the population has this affliction. Get over yourself.Placing yourself above others also is a sin.

Find a QB who is accurate and throws the ball more than 20 times a game. Completing 11 of 20 will not win games, even with the best run game in the league. Wake up! Find a QB who can throw at the receivers, not their feet, not their back shoulder or elbow. Good luck with the rest of the season!

The problem with the Falcons is Mike Vick. He’s nothing but an ignorant “Thug” that can run like a thief. He can’t learn the offense and execute it the way Mora/Knapp draw it up. The “Falcons” have give this brainless thug so much money that they can’t financialy justify pulling his sorry a$$. The Ravens could do the franchise a favor and take Vick out on the 1st play. Then the Falcons could put a QB in that has mastered the system, and has produced results within it. I believe DJ Shockley at this stage of his career probably has a better grasp of the system. But you know; The Falcons probably will dish Matt Schaub off for another dud. Brett Favre revisited. I don’t get it. Maybe y’all need to test the water up there. Meanwhile…The lack of “Back to Back Winning Seasons” streak continues.
